— Ace Here is what it all comes down to, as he asks:
"Who is sovereign? The people or the political class?"
Let me suggest that in politics, just as in drama, the intellect steers, but the emotion drives.
We would all be intellectually opposed to Obama's and the Democrats' agenda in all possible worlds.
But the intellect steers, emotion drives.
What has people willing to walk on their naked knees over broken glass is the emotion of it. Not just that we disagreed as pointedly (and at first as respectfully) as we could, but that, having lodged our objections as natural-born Americans with the power, we're told, to shape our own political destinies, our input into our own fates was met with a single dismissive fuck-you:
"We. Don't. Care."
Followed up with:
"We. Will. Do. What. We. Please."
That is what is providing the actual emotion here.
When it was just a policy debate, it was intellectual.
But now they've gone and made it personal.
That was a mistake. Because you can sell people down the river if you can keep them asleep while you do it.
When you rouse them...? When you alert them...? When you incense them...?
Tougher.
And it's not just personal, but fundamental: Who decides in America? The people, as the books claim? Or the elite, as common practice seems to have it?
And so the rage.
See Hot Air for other stuff, like PPP finding Obama's approval rate in swing states is ten points lower than the margin he was elected with.
We will take this country back. Trust that.

2. Cadell is spot on, but he took a little swipe at Reps with that line "Republicans don't have to care about the people, but Democrats do", really Pat? Reps turn their back on the base (i.e: av. hardworking American) and they end up getting bitch-slapped by them for screwing it up, Dems do everything their base claims to be against (ie.: poor people looking for handouts) and they don't give a damn because they're still getting paid. Other than that, right on Pat
3. MI is not a heavy blue state, they haven't gone red since 88 yes, but in 92 and 96 it was close and in 00 and 04 Bush just lost the state by a teeth both times, does it lean blue? yes, but it's not the heavy blue state Pat seems to think it is; of course he could be talking about the local MI politics which I don't know much about
4. yeah I still say we barely take the House w/ a 40-50 seat gain and just barely lose the Senate

CBS, NBC, and ABC did not cover the Missouri prop C in which 71% voted against being forced to participate in or be fined for not participating in Obamacare. Thus, most of the country does not know about it.
So, we take the house and senate in November. The MSM spins it as nothing, and then starts to blame all the problems these turds have created on the Republicans and they pound it day in and day out until 2012. Plus the Precedent does his car keys bit every day until then. By 2012 the Dems are back in business.

Yes, there are occasional flashes of righteous and justified anger, but these people have the attention spans of gnats. Distract them with a shiny trinket (who really gives a fuck if the Park Service bought new windows for an abandoned building, or if David Frum and some other blogger are having a tiff? or a question about what Zombie William F Buckley would think of some little think tank's "position paper" on Greenspan v. some other economics wanker) and they are happy as kittens in catnip.
Your Mencken quote at the head of the page is right on target, and if someone chooses to rally the troops we might be able to view it as a metaphor and not a reality.
We have seen the nation pushed closer to destruction since 1861 (maybe even closer than it was then) by Osama Obama and his totalitarian hordes. The Constitution hovers just above toilet-paper status in their world, and no law is safe from being broken. No right of the citizenry is too precious to take away, and no terrorist is too evil to suck up to.
And yet, people keep talking about trivia, never choosing to look at the real core evil.
Maybe we need our own Journolist, where those who care about the country can formulate a unified approach to saving it.
Don't expect many of our elected officials to stand up for America, though. They are as fat and happy as the legislators in a certain country whose leader's name must never be mentioned with Obama's (though decency couldn't keep it from being linked with Bush's) right before said leader, a totalitarian, demented, hate-filled racist (sound familiar?) stripped them of power and became Fuh Absolute Ruler.

This is not the dilemma. It is not merely a matter of the political class versus the People. We are at a strange juncture where the political class is intentionally trying to destroy every and tradition that was America. We are seeing the modern left act as if they are the second coming of the French Revolution. I'm a bit surprised that they haven't tried to hit us with the Revolutionary Calendar, 10 day weeks and such, in order to break the bonds society has with organized religion. This is who the modern left are. They are just another group, but a group that hates everything about us and who we are.
Normally, even this group of self-hating retards is kept within limits, because of unconscious ties they have to American culture. This is why Shrillary and Bill let their health scare die a normal death. They couldn't help themselves. It seemed to them as if they had no choice. But, get someone with no real ties to American culture, a non-natural born citizen running things, and none of those cultural or traditional taboos have any power. Quite the opposite. The Indonesian Imbecile reveled in taking the most un-American tack on everything, and then trying to ram it down our throats in the most un-American way possible. The useful idiot Americans, upon seeing this, now feel themselves freed from those heretofore unacknowledged cultural ties and limits, so now they are just as dangerous as the alien. We saw this in the last push of health scare and now into the secession-inducing issues of direct assault by the feral government on the citizenry with illegal aliens, marriage, guns, and health care ... among others.
As the useful idiots are emboldened by these continuing actions, this process will end exactly where every reasonable person knows it will.

Also, especially in the area I live (smallish city/college town) the left controls pretty much every instrument of power and position of status. My income has suffered now that I'm more open about my views as has, frankly, my social and dating life. I'm considering moving because I feel quite unwelcome here now. It sucks. What in the past had been intellectual disagreements has become intensely personal ... nothing like being ganged up on and publicly called a racist (for disagreeing about a friggin health care bill and supreme court nominee!) a few times to really harden the heart.
In the past I even got some grudging respect for having a contrarian, and reasonably well-argued, outlook. No longer.
Similarly, I used to explain away the lefties at work or in my social circle as misguided, but well-intentioned. I no longer believe that.

The Federal Government is embattled with Arizona and its voters over illegal immigration...
The political class is allowing an Islamist monument celebrating the deaths of 3000 Americans to be built at ground zero in New York...
The will of the people of the State of California was overturned by one activist federal judge...
Missouri passed a referendum defiantly objecting to the Federal Government's new medical entitlement. The Spokesperson for the President dismisses it out of hand...
...that's four states where the will of the majority of voting citizens is being ignored by our own government. No one should be surprised that we are in a pre-revolutionary state of mind.

There's a great asymmetry between liberalism and conservativism. They aren't mirror images of each other.
Liberals can live under conservatives in the federal government, since conservatives subscribe to federalism and allow the liberals to form whatever socialist shit-holes they want in the states that they control.
Conservatives cannot live under liberal control of the federal government, since liberals want a national government with all policy dictated from Washington, and do not allow conservatives to live in conservative states, since states are not given any autonomy to enable such under their view of a national government from Washington.
This is why the nation will eventually split. The two sides are totally incompatible, unless liberals are kept out of federal power - but they own the judiciary and do tons of damage through that one arm.

There are a whole lot of extremely vulnerable Dem senators facing re-election in 2012. Bill Nelson; Claire McCaskill; Jon Tester; Ben Nelson; Kent Conrad; Sherrod Brown; Bob Casey; Jim Webb. Maybe even more. Any lame duck session is going to have to have the support of these senators to get cloture votes, and after they'll have just watched many of their own colleagues and a bunch of Democrats in the House mowed down at the polls for casting exactly the kinds of votes they'll then be asked to make. The lame-duck session is no slam-dunk.

Really? The GOP aren't exactly good at rolling stuff back. They had some marginal success against Clinton, but he bitched 'em whenever the chips were down, and when they had the White House, Senate, and House, they accomplished sweet fuck all.
In all likelihood, Obamerica is the new baseline. Should the GOP get power, they will accept all that he's done, and simply expand it more slowly.

The good progressives have to run as a conservative just to get their bony foot in the door of the senate and congress. Bambi had to run as a tax cutter and gov't reducer to have half a chance. The MFM gave him the other half by propping him up as the smartest man ever to run for office, ignoring his dizzying logic and anti-toastmaster articulation. All he has in his chin up in the air, his middle finger pointing at the American people and crease pants.
Yes, time and time again, the good libs run as God fearing, tax cutting, limited government wonks and get elected. Then the libs crow about how the country is rejecting conservative principles during their acceptance speeches. They laugh like little kids in their first days as 'public servants', knowing full well their governing philosophy, if ever made public during campaigns, would doom them to a private sector job selling fruit on the side of road (an honorable job, which means they wouldn't take it) or becoming a night manager at Walgreens. (NTTAWT).
Furthermore, I contend state and local elections in heavy blue areas are not legitimate (See Franken, Al among many documented examples).
So, yea, we get our principles voted on affirmatively every cycle. All that changes is the charlatans who adopt, espouse and hijack these principles.
Suck it.

One thing at a time.
The first thing that has to happen is achieving the tidal wave that Pat predicts. Without that first step, all the planning and leadership in the world ain't gonna do a damn bit of good.
The anger is palpable here, and anywhere you look around the country. The difference? The libs have been angry since before I started paying attention; probably all the way back to Vietnam. Conservatives get angry enough to speak only when pushed- now, 1980, 1994.
Anger clouds the mind.
That doesn't mean dump the anger- that means channel the anger into something productive. That means helping to 1) make that first step happen, and 2) examine who the weak links are in the conservative fire line, particularly in the Senate. Unless 20 seats flip to red in the Senate (not gonna happen by November), this is just positioning for 2012.
Ace called it right- emotion is the engine; intellect is the steering. It is vital at this point that if the politicians won't provide leadership, the voters will. Each Moron reading this knows deep, logical, and well-thought-out reasons for US conservatism being the truest path to liberty in this country. It's time to sell those ideas, with passion- NOT ANGER.
Fools like Sally Ann and our various other trolls will attempt to bait you into anger, as we've seen (the race card, played over and over again). It is not them that we need to convince; it is the remorseful Obama voter that needs beckoning.
I urge you to remember what makes the successful sales pitch- attention, interest, desire, conviction, close. Get their attention, get them interested in the product, make them desire it, reinforce their desire with conviction, and close the sale. You ain't gonna pull that off by convincing everyone you're pissed off.
It's going to take at least two elections to undo what we've seen damaged over the last two elections- it'll require a solid majority in the House, and a supermajority in the Senate. That's going to mean carefully guiding our elected officials between 2010 and 2012, and hopefully a leader will emerge over the next two years.
It is certainly time to go on offense- you can't win playing just defense. Be idealistic- that is where passion is vital. But control that passion in order to attack swiftly and successfully. The hard part lies ahead.

What can I say? I'm not even a big fan of voting. I'd rather live in a nation with no voting, but a strictly limited government, than one with tons of voting and a government that had nothing standing in its way to expand into any area it thought appropriate. Of course, this was the view of our Founders, as they only called for democratic processes to be used in filling 1/2 of 1/3 of the federal government. They relied more on the Constitutional limits doing the work of restraining tyranny than any vote - as they knew that tyranny is always VOTED in eventually.
The idea that a nation is on the brink (and after we all saw the 2008 credit crisis no one can claim that they don't understand how close to the edge the US is, right now) is politics, in the deepest sense. I don't see the use ignoring the decay (and worse) that we all see, even if some don't think it is fatal and some do. Then again, I never got the sense that anyone was trying to organize any super-secret anything through the comments. They are just observations of what we think is happening and what will happen.

It's no longer a question about the issues and the fact that our side is losing. Losing is part of life, and it's constructive; it makes you better so that you might win next time or the time after that. It's how we're losing.
The Obama Administration is playing tackle baseball. There's no place in America for that game, and conservatives and liberals both realize that winning is inadequate at this point. These people have to be kicked off the playground.

For the record, ace, my ideals are centered around the following (in no particular order):
1. Following the Constitution, not treating it as a malleable thing;
2. Placing the security and well-being of America first;
3. A government that spends no more than necessary, does not pamper itself or distribute tax money to a favored few and taxes accordingly;
4. A government that works for all Americans, not just unions or any other "privileged" groups or classes;
5. A government that enforces the laws and scrupulously follows the laws it sets;
6. A president who considers him- or herself beholden to the entire population of the USA;
7. A government that recognizes the limits of its powers, and accepts them;
8. A government that sets the example for politeness, decency and harmony between Americans of all races, classes and religions, favoring none above the rest.
Those'll do for a start. Surely there must be politicians (or budding politicians) who would sign on to those ideals.

I'm sorry, but even turning all of Congress over to the GOP is not going to stop the disintegration. Further, there has been too much irreparable damage done to our institutional processes and to the institutions, themselves, over the past year and a half. Congress was gang-raped time and again by The Precedent and his junta of useful idiots. You can't just forget all that. The damage continues on. And all this was done when the US was in the most vulnerable position it's been in in over a hundred years.
This isn't gloom and doom. It's just what happened. What everybody let happen, even though we all knew how bad it was. We let them actually pass over $800 billion in extraordinary spending without anyone being allowed to read the friggin' bill - and that was the shallowest of offenses that have been carried out.
I'm an optimist, in the medium term (15-20 years), for the American creed. But the short term is going to be very, very rough. Sorry that that assessment bothers people.

@141: "Then, seriously, what are you doing here?
Looking to see what my ostensible allies are thinking.
You guys are no longer political, okay? Politics has a meaning. You are doomsday philosophers. You are not interested in political action."
Actually, I'm starting to find the idea of political action quite interesting. Might wanna look up the history of that phrase. Lots of guys with acronyms (PIRA, INLA, LVF, UDA, RAF, ETA) use it. Some are most adept practitioners of political action. I figure the odds of that sort of thing happening here are getting significant. As Claire Wolfe puts it: "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."
So why post on a political blog?
Gallows humor venting helps. Also, some people raise points worth consdering. The Right needs two things: (1) a plan; (2) balls. It currently has neither, but if either one appears, the other might well follow. If that happens, we might not need to get to the "shoot the bastards" phase.
I'm so tired of the endless fucking whining and bitching.
Um, have you read any of your own posts - and I ask that in all honesty? Pretty much everyone on the Right is demoralized and rightly so. We see what is being lost, yet no one has any idea of how to stop it. We're still just told that those magical two election cycles will fix everything.
Hey-- life is hard. Sometimes it doesn't go the way you want.
Wow, this is the first that I have ever heard of this.
No one's giving you a pony.
Ahh, but if I accept Allah into my life and get violent, I can get one that you'll pay for, courtesy of our government. Or if I stop working and go on the dole, same result. Or if I take gummint job and union up, same result. The pony is very, very easy to get if you don't really care how you get it.
Sack the fuck up already and get over it."
I am over it, entirely. When the GOP retakes the House, I'm sure America will be just like Rufus predicted: "And I'm telling you it's great here. The air is clean, the water's clean, even the dirt, it's clean. Bowling averages are way up, mini-golf scores are way down. And we have more excellent water slides than any other planet we communicate with. I'm telling you this place is great!"
But just in case that doesn't happen, you might want to give some consideration to what else to do. If someone doesn't come up with a plan, and soon, and if there is no will to see it through, then those guys who like "political action" - maybe Left, maybe Right - will come up with one.

I could go on for literally hundreds of such examples. Who was claiming that health scare was dead and that the GOP should go to that summit, while the "eeyores" were warning not to help revive that totally un-American piece of shit bill?

Americans have done a lot of stupid things over the years. When Nixon was president we had wage and price controls and 70%+ marginal tax rates. So even though it seems like things are always heading in the wrong direction don't forget that we've been there before and managed to roll much of it back. By convincing people who supported the idiocy to change their minds and vote sensibly.
In the past year and a half? Nothing that's happened in the past year and a half can't be rolled back except Sotomayor and Kagen. Two liberals got replaced by two different liberals on SCOTUS. Which is a draw, in my book.
And we were far, far more vulnerable in the early '70s. We had a hollow military and were facing an existential threat in the USSR. We had high inflation. We had malaise. We had lefty nutcases going around robbing banks and blowing things and making common cause with people interested in our destruction.
Look, I know there are problems. As I pointed out earlier, the courts are out of control, and it's not clear to me how we can fix that. The socialists are ascendant. But don't forget we've been here before. The fact that Americans were so smitten with Obama and have done a complete about-face in two years gives me hope.

And if perchance, that fails, then what? Become a good little aparatchik?

That's just not true. There were legislative traditions and taboos that were smashed and that perverted legislative behavior is now accepted as "normal". That is irreparable damage. The system has been put into a very unstable state.
-->And we were far, far more vulnerable in the early '70s. We had a hollow military and were facing an existential threat in the USSR. We had high inflation. We had malaise. We had lefty nutcases going around robbing banks and blowing things and making common cause with people interested in our destruction.
We had nothing like the monetary catastrophe that we are now staring at. Nothing. Don't even think that having to go off the gold standard was anything comparable. That turned us fiat, wholly. In 2008, we saw the first massive crumblings of that fiat system, and we are only in the eye of the storm, now (thanks to a trillion of federal spending and a few trillions of printing/bond purchases and fake swaps for worthless assets by the fed). When the eyewall hits, again, there won't be any money left to buy outrageously expensive time with. And this is with the US dollar, the only monetary system in all of recorded history that was the basis of all world trade and foreign monetary policy. The dollar disinitegrating is not like the Weimar Republic, or Zimbabwe, or Albania, or Argentina, ... The US dollar is in a unique, irreplacable position, and people play with that because they really don't understand the threat its destruction would bring. It would be inescapable, as nothing can replace or substitute for the US dollar. Again, this is not eeyorism, but just the facts surrounding the issue of the dollar.
-->Look, I know there are problems. As I pointed out earlier, the courts are out of control, and it's not clear to me how we can fix that. The socialists are ascendant. I have hope, too. It's just very tempered.
There are so many independent tracks going now. We have yet to have Israel hit Iran. Take the crap that emerged from "the world, and the US, under the Indonesian" in reaction to that silly flotilla event and multiply it by 10000 to get an inkling of what we're likely looking at. Then put the monetary impact into it all ... it ain't pretty (but I'm not supposed to talk about that, I guess). I have been saying this from before the flotilla event, but then I used to say to take the reaction to the Gaza operation and multiply that. The flotilla event just gave more evidence to the idea that this IS the track the world is on.

The problem that extends beyond this election, or even the election in 2012, is an idea, or a whole set of ideas that go with the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and every significant thing that has been fought over in +220 years to make this a free republic.
The Left has an idea, a set of ideas. They are malignant and repellant, full of loathing for the life of free men. And these ideas are subtley, and sometimes not so subtley embedded in pop culture, songs, movies, Letterman's show, ESPN,etc. Millions swallow this stuff unthinkingly, and now feel uncomfortable with the ideas that support the Constitution, etc.
So we can win some elections, and roll some of this stuff back (maybe) and buy ourselves some years of marginal prosperity and freedom again, but the Left will be back, meaner, sicker than before. Because you can't kill an idea, no matter how sick it seems to be, if somebody gets a payoff at the end of the day. Look at Islam. 1400 years of sick stuff, still going strong. They're gonna build a mosque a few blocks from the sight of the wrecked WTC. Believe it. There's plenty of Saudi money to hire people to build it, and just enough dhimmis like Bloomberg to help them. Sick.
So Ace, man, I'm not an Eyeore. I want to win, I'm willing to compromise, I don't need purity tests. But I don't know how to the fight mass media and the drone of dumb, sick ideas that permeate the minds of the unthinking millions of "Americans" out there. "Sally Cavanaugh" is the perfect example of those unthinking millions. It is also the answer to why Letterman is still on the air.

If we are really going to get down to the nitty-gritty of talking politics, then we should be scheming dirty tricks and working out large scale unconventional methods and tactics. You claim that this is method is out-of-bounds, even though it is used against us daily.
That is really what American Politics is....
But no....instead we go round and round with no real sense of trust in our political allies. I get the sense that many of the so called moderates, not sure if you put yourself in that category or not, are like the SchoolYard teacher.
Shouting at the boys for rough housing and playing Dodgeball, while waging their finger, "You Boys Plays Nice," meanwhile as soon as we turn our back then "Stewey the ultra-intelligent homosexual progressive sissy" runs up and kicks us in the nuts while we were trying to figure what the School Teacher was going on about.

Yes to a nation of laws, and you're Part Of The Solution. Whims of the state, and you're Part Of The Problem.
And you know, if you say you're for the rule of law, you kinda defeat your message if you go around threatening to break that law to get your way.

Because if you were anything other than tough talk you wouldn't be announcing your fucking insurgency on the fucking internet."
Ok, since we're going with the personal insults, and you're lumping me in with the Stormfront types, reread my posts untermensch.
I'm saying something needs to be done to avoid letting the revolutionary types be the ones making the decisions, becuase if things aren't turned around, they will be. Stuff got way out of hand in the Great Depression, and that could happen again - worse. What, exactly, do you think would happen if the economy collapsed? Paulson already threatened Congress with the fact that they'd have to put "tanks on the street".
I don't exactly see where I announced any insurgency. I asked a question: If voting doesn't work, what then?
If things go to a real, honest to goodness shootin', hangin' kill-em-all war, I have no illusions about what will happen to me. I live in Soviet Monica - I'd be one of the first casualties. Odds are really good that I'd never even see it coming until the rope went around my neck or I got pushed against the wall.
I'd kinda like to avoid that.
But, I guess that makes me gay.

It's not a crisis of "the fiat system", it was just a realization that all that debt couldn't possibly be paid back. In a fractional reserve system that results in deflation. Well, yeah, when you've designated me Commandante Maximo of the Glorious Revolution, my question would get read that way.
I don't know what the "what then" is. But any plan for fixing stuff has to consider what could happen. Take spending cuts, for example: cut the military budget, we risk foreign aggression. Cut transfer payments, we risk domestic unrest. Proposing either is probably electoral poison, but it is necessary.
So: what's the plan? Can it work? What happens if it doesn't?

It was not a threat to the monetary system when it happened, but the federal government moved quickly to have private liabilities shifted onto the public (made the Fannie/Freddie guarantees explicit, took on AIG's portfolio, increased FDIC insurance levels in banks, swapped out shit MBSs for cash from the Fed, ...) and turned an economic problem into a monetary one. That was the biggest mistake that was made. It was made a monetary threat, and that is how the sistuation remains, with the extra debt piled up to fight it now a serious threat, itself, with the coming rise in interest rates (which we will not be able to service, no way no how). Bush, and the rest, constantly made the serious mistake of terming it as an economic crisis when it was turned into a monetary one.
-->In a fractional reserve system that results in deflation. Yeah, the economy is gonna be ambling around aimlessly for a few decades. But it's not even close to the end of the world.

The US is the engine of the world. The only way to deal with our debt is to grow out of it, but we have been implementing anti-growth, anti-capitalist, anti-property rules that make that possibility more and more remote. The US can't take two decades of stagnation like Japan just went through. They could only do it because the US was around and chugging along. The engine, itself, can't idle for two decades. We need growth. We have to have growth.
Just to refresh the memory,
Nikkei Dec 1989: 39,000
Nikkei Aug 2010: 9,550
The US can't afford to experience that. Trust me.

They'll print dollars to pay off that massive debt, raise taxes, and stiff the old folks somehow. But it's going to take a long string of stupid mistakes before we get to the Mad Max territory everyone seems to think is around the bend.

I have to tell you that many like to blithely answer that we can just print it, but a hyperinflationary spiral (not like the stagflation of the 70's, but real hyperinflation) for the world's largest currency and world reserve and trade currency is really not where one should think of going. There is no escape from that. Like I said, we aren't Iceland. The US dollar can't be bailed out and can't be replaced by anything. It is singular in history, this way.

If interest rates returned to 1980 levels, do you believe that the US would be able to service our national debt? I have to tell you that many like to blithely answer that we can just print it, but a hyperinflationary spiral (not like the stagflation of the 70's, but real hyperinflation) for the world's largest currency and world reserve and trade currency is really not where one should think of going. There is no escape from that. Like I said, we aren't Iceland. The US dollar can't be bailed out and can't be replaced by anything. It is singular in history, this way.

I'm not interested in carrying the weight of the rest of the world on my shoulders. I'm mostly interested in what happens here. If Europe goes into a deep depression because we had to print some greenbacks that's a misstep on their part.

I could, yeah. But, you know, OpSec requirements. I must not publicize the bake sale to get that RPG that Brigada Ocho is counting on.
Again, I live in Soviet Monica. There isn't much I can do. I've worked on campaigns before and may again, if I find a decent candidate with a chance to win. I'm also on the list of attorneys who have volunteered to help with election litigation, should any conservative candidate get close enough to need that.

We can fix this shit by keeping, in O'dumbasses words, "a boot on the neck" on those up next. If you don't think what happens in November will not be on their minds when they make those next votes in Congress, you're crazy.
Hell, it may take time, but damn, I don't plan to die tomorrow, and if I do there will be someone to step up. That's what the hell it's all about.

It's not a question of ruthlessness. The choice will be between debasing the currency or raising taxes really high and working like dogs for a couple decades to maintain the value of our currency. In an ideal world we might do the latter. In the real world there's no way that will happen.

Venting is one thing.. Violent fantasies are another. You can read silly sick stuff like that on the left, at Kos or DU, about what they'd like to do to Republicans, the Right, Sarah Palin, etc. But that sort of think actually feeds their ends.
What the leftist/statists want is a Hobbesian wilderness, of man against man, all against all, with a powerful fascist/corporatist state to "protect" you from your fellow man. The end of Burke's "civil society", of people voluntarily organizing to help their neighborhood or town. What they want is a violent social wilderness where only the government can protect you. The prototype already exists in a lot of big cities. They want to take that pathology nationwide, to every town and villlage. No escape.
That's why the violent fantasies (and I get plenty mad to) are a means to their ends. In my humble opinion.

Clinton won with 43%.
-->For the next two years he will be neutered.
Based on what? He'll just shift more to Executive orders and regulation.
-->After the Republican Revolution of 1994, the question was asked, a lot, "Is the President relevant?" Clinton was reduced to doing joint appearances with Newt Gingrich.
Clinton was a natural born American. I know that means nothing to many people, but sets its own limits, which is why the Founders had it in as a requirement.

I agree with you 100%, liver. That's the problem. Monetizing the debt is too easy, politically, but it puts the monetary system at risk of destruction - and at risk of an inescapable spiral towards destruction that is much enhanced given the historically large and singular nature of the dollar. Default maintains the integrity of the monetary system but screws up foreign relations and borrowing, immediately. We are destined to try and inflate our way out of the problems, which only leads to problems several orders of magnitudes worse, as the easier path is ususally only that way because the ill-effects are put off and come in later, and more viciously.

I quite honestly don't see that.
I have had many bootless conversations with American moon-bats where we've had to "agree to disagree" but there are some ground-rules that are just so fundamental that they are fricken' alien to people from other countries.
It's a pretty powerful ethos and as much as I acknowledge the successes of those who would distort or pervert it, it's still pretty persistent in its essence.
I wouldn't presume to tell someone else how to "think like an American" though I'm more than happy to share my thoughts on the matter, if asked.
I do hope to convince my neighbor to vote for this guy for Corporate Commissioner or that gal for State Rep. and why, though.

I missed any assassination talk. Had to be joking, as it's well established that it's a Leftist tactic. Conservatives just aren't likely to resort to lawlessness.
Guns are for sport and confident personal protection if you come under attack. Like if the currency dissolves and we face looting for food.
The EPA is trying for a way to outlaw ammo, which I believe is a sign of their well deserved paranoia at this point.
But Leftists assassinate and also regulate guns out of existence.

If you mean massed armies, marching in the fields, yeah, I agree. A Northern Ireland type scenario seems possible, though. Assorted irregulars running around nibbling at the margins could happen, at least in some areas where the body politic is heavily mixed. The only thing I have asked of the people, who keep telling me, "Once Republicans get back to power we can stop them in their tracks, and begini to figure what to do then," is where the hell is the economic Real GDP per Capita growth going to come from?
No one, including those on the left, has an answer to that question. Originally the Lefties where saying we would get it from a New Green economy...it was a blatant lie, they didn't even start to pursue that route.

I don't believe it's as dire as that. The reason countries get into real problems with hyperinflation (as in Hungary in the '50s and Zimbabwe today) is they overdo it. A few years of Carter-style inflation will go a long way to fixing our debt problem and can be reversed afterward.

No problem. I am not averse to discussing those possibilities, though, when I do, I say them explicitly. Along those lines, if the Sep 2008 credit crisis happened in Sep 2010 or 2012, there's little question that those consequences that people were so scared of happening last time would almost surely occur with the coming crisis, as we are all tapped out. This crisis will come, but I don't think there is danger of it being timed for anything. It is just naturally heading towards us.
Further, I've never viewed The Precedent as wanting to hold onto power forever. My view of him is much different. I think he is here to destroy as much as he can in his one (and likely less, at least I think he figured so) term. This is why I was not surprised by his declaration that he didn't care about a second term. I'd been writing that since he first came into office.
That's why I'm not one who views The Precedent as a socialist. I don't think he has any real political thoughts, at all. He's just on a revenge mission, so far as I've seen it.

Boom seems unlikely. It will take a lot of time just to regain what was lost. We have to add what, 150K jobs/month just to keep the labor market even; to get a boom, we'd have to have hiring well beyond that for a long, long time.

It doesn't take that much to start a boom. Housing could lead us out of this mess. We are underbuilding housing by about 1,000,000 units a year and have for 3 years. We only have 8 months inventory now and a sellers market is 6 months or below.
People are living with their parents, siblings and friends now. If employment stabilizes at 150,000 per month where people feel like they aren't going to lose their job and they might even get a raise things could change pretty fast.

Because it isn't a real recovery. Lemme 'splain what I mean by that. In theory you have economic cycles because resources become mis-allocated when people get used to a growing economy. You get speculation, and that causes growth that isn't supportable. Then you go into recession and those mis-allocated dollars (and people) get reallocated so you can start growing again.
So technically two quarters of negative GDP mean a recession, and positive GDP means recovery. But you can goose GDP numbers by borrowing money and spreading it around, which technically ends the recession. But the economy never actually reallocates all those mis-allocated resources. You create a zombie economy that will dip in and out of recession depending on how much the government can get away with borrowing that year.
That's what happened in Japan for more than twenty years now, and that's what started happening in the US after the crash in 2008.
The point is Obama is screwed unless he stops with the Keynesian crap. Which he won't do because so much of that money is going to the ACORNs of the world.

The American people barring some Tunguska level event are going to give the democrats a richly deserved electoral bloodbath. We owe it to our founders, men such as you, women such as my wife to use the system we inherited from the blood and honor of heroes past. The democrats are the ones on the precipice of history not me or my side of the aisle.
They *may try* to electioneer and dirty trick their way to the status quo ante becoming the state of being en perpetual but I doubt they have any more intestinal fortitude for that than they did for going to their districts and meeting with their bosses the people.

It's anecdotal of course (I do that), but having helped craft the latest five-year plan for our company, we're semi-optomistic about Texas and ain't gonna spend a nickel we don't have to until after Nov 2012.
f'n way it is. We don't see anything trending up until way after it would be of any use to Obama's reelection campaign.

The Real GDP growth as the only measurement can be tricky.
If your refer to the calculation, you can see that if government spending increases so does GDP, it is not a deep enough calculus to sort out good spending vs. bad spending with bad spending being deficit spending.

364 But your old semi auto hunting rifle isn't exactly up to the same calibre as Ma Duece (and that's hardly a standard issue force multiplier). An armed revolt or secession (especially secession) could really go badly -- if you don't have the military behind you, then you lose. Simple as that.
Fortunately your opponents have been very...short and tunnel visioned...concerning the same. So there's that.
Si vis pacem...go out and vote and encourage others to vote; we are in for an interesting end to this year I think. We'll find out soon enough. Hopefully things stablize.

Obviously, saying things outloud is self disqualifying. This is trivial and those who would, know that. Always a catch360. But here we get some legs.. An article that might give some more pause to the onslaughters (btw next 5 months are tenuous)... and whoa... No let's qualify this in every way possible so as to remove any mystery or multipicative threat assessment (WH should be easy to overwhelm as they have to polltest every issue response or whatever they do). Someone is slow on uptake, or long on bitching, or weak on banning, or doesn't understand enemy, if words mean anything any more. Aoshq is no democracy last I checked. Same gripe for weeks now. How's about some action lest it become boshq (things gonna get worse befor they get better) and it's not like an epidemic or whatever. Ban the miscrients for a day or something just to retain the semblance of cojpnws. /sarc off
posters should say their piece and move on, imo. The constant drumbeat is, again, dilutory, and has to make operation of this thing awful tedious. It's one thing for someone, anyone, to state their observations/opinions, but blogs are free. Something tells me u can pretty much say anything here, at least once; that's good thing ( could u imagine a day u could say stuff on internets but not in public?). To overfill the trough is wasteful and does npt do service to others. quality not quantity. Focus. By the scoreboard we still have ground to gain. If anything the goal should be to bring opposing views here to be enlightened; the rest is cheerleading. PS: you have to respect that rather than ban people he confronts them face2face, so to speak.

It picks back up with the main characters in the new book but continues slow right up to the last book.

I think Ace doesn't understand how revolutions occur. Most are spontaneous, some succeed, most are put down. The American Revolution wasn't planned, of course you did have agitators, and IIRC wasn't even supported by the majority at the outset. Some revolutions don't even involve much shooting.
Perhaps I'm wrong but given the current trajectory, the utter loathing that the liberal class has for common American citizens ("teabaggers" etc), the repeated abuse of the Constitution, the high living lifestyle of government officials while many are begging for work and other things, it seems like given the right circumstances a revolution could occur.
Perhaps the Republicans don't take back Congress. Instances of voter fraud are found and Holder says he won't investigate. The TEA Party or some other group holds a mass rally in D.C., some liberal agitators infiltrate and try to make it seem like they are crazy racists, fights break out. The Mall police fire tear gas to disperse the crowd. People get trampled, turn and charge the police and somebody gets shot and killed.
The next few days DC is under martial law, the National Guard called out, rally organizers arrested. Somebody interviews Holder who still says he won't investigate the voter fraud, "because I'm more worried about right-wing militia". Despite that a new rally is called in which 3 million people show up...

"Pre-Revolutionary"... we now know OUR enemy is within!
I can say without a doubt...in all of my 52 years I have never feared for my country. Even after 9/11 I knew that the USA would prevail. I knew who the enemy was. Now...I am terrified that the USA is under attack...only this time it is from within.
My new enemy is the idealism of the precious few. who have strategically moved into postions of power. They use strategically planed news clips delivered by their minion news organizations to move their agenda. The problem is their agenda and the released clips to explain simply do not make sense, and in fact they are irrational! They are in direct opposition to what I know to be true. So, one can only surmise; there is a plan to destroy the constitution of the USA! Our President has done nothing to instill or garner trust in his actions & agenda...in fact he is put off to even have to answer to his constitutients...he insults us...and even shows his disgust to our values!! The trust of his constituients is a valuable ally that he has deemed unnecessary...his dismissal of the need for our trust is a behavior of one who believes more in himself than those he represents. The question is whom does he represent!
So...I do not consider my self to be "Pre-Revolutionary"... I consider we are at WAR!
Posted by: Gretel at August 07, 2010 03:48 AM (B8+XL)
Revolution is already in progress. We were caught off guard with socialism. Now we accept that we are under it, with Obama & Liberal Dems. We are enraged, and are going to banish socialism from America. It is incompatible with The Constitution!
PS: why is Obama building a GM factory in Mexico? any connection with his refusal to enforce our "Fed Immigration Law?" Is he trying to join U.S. with Mexico, into One Country? Hmm....

I think Pat is right on the mark.
"The Revolution was effected before the War commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments of their duties and obligations. This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people, was the real American Revolution." John Adams.

Pat, out of your mouth to God's ears.
Are we heading for a November election bloodbath? Dear me, I hope that we are. I hope that the screaming from the electorate is heard across America from sea to shining sea. I hope that they sweat bullets and have explosive diarrhea, and stand there holding their proverbial whatzit in thier hands, wondering what the license plate number is of the buss that just drove over them.
I'm so damned tired of being told that I'm stupid, that I don't understand and that my betters know better. I'm tired of the wholesale selling out of our basic principles, something that got us through over 200 years of sucess as a country, and now is being considered antiquated and negative in order to replace it with a failed socialistic utopian bullshit fantasy of nothingness. I'm rtired of being ignored, ridiculed and disregarded, disrespected... I'm tired of people of like mind spending more time trying to figure out what idiot is going to win American Idol, and so little time taking a stand for not only what's right, but what works.
I'm ready for a rumble. I'm ready to stand there and scream on the steps of the Capital that these folks don't own our country and they certainly don't get to do whatever the hell that they want to WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED. And I'm ready to be the last woman standing there with a picket sign because I'm not going to go quietly. I'm not going to stand down because of intimidation tactics. I don't care who they parade, or what they promise, they're all a bunch of liars, lacking character and honor.
As a female, ace, I'm not thinking Godfather, I'm thinking Joan of Arc and a flaming sword. And I'm an agnostic, go figure.
Cadell is right when he says that this isn't goign to go away with better numbers. This is bigger than the economy, bigger than situational politics. This isn't fad or fashion. What is happening is a sea change of long term involvement in politics and he can smell it in the wind and feels it in his gut. And he's right. I'm ready for November, and I'm ready for November 2012 and beyond.
A whole bunch of America has gotten off the couch, and I don't think that they're going to plop their fat asses back down on it anytime in the next few years. There is just too much at stake.
Bring it.

They may have been mesmerized temporarially by the evil ones, but they havent forgot their beginnings completely.
If this all plays out like I hope, the evil ones will be completely exposed. The American traitors over the last 50 years and the ones behind the assassinations of sixties; and they will finally be delt with in the manner they deserve.

THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release January 21, 2009
EXECUTIVE ORDER 13489 - - - - - - -
PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to establish policies and procedures governing the assertion of executive privilege by incumbent and former Presidents in connection with the release of Presidential records by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) pursuant to the Presidential Records Act of 1978, it is hereby ordered as follows: Section 1. Definitions. For purposes of this order:
(a) "Archivist" refers to the Archivist of the United States or his designee. (b) "NARA" refers to the National Archives and Records Administration.
(c) "Presidential Records Act" refers to the Presidential Records Act, 44 U.S.C. 2201-2207.
(d) "NARA regulations" refers to the NARA regulations implementing the Presidential Records Act, 36 C.F.R. Part 1270.
(e) "Presidential records" refers to those documentary materials maintained by NARA pursuant to the Presidential Records Act, including Vice Presidential records.
(f) "Former President" refers to the former President during whose term or terms of office particular Presidential records were created.
(g) A "substantial question of executive privilege" exists if NARA's disclosure of Presidential records might impair national security (including the conduct of foreign relations), law enforcement, or the deliberative processes of the executive branch.
(h) A "final court order" is a court order from which no appeal may be taken.
Sec. 2. Notice of Intent to Disclose Presidential Records. (a) When the Archivist provides notice to the incumbent and former Presidents of his intent to disclose Presidential records pursuant to section 1270.46 of the NARA regulations, the Archivist, using any guidelines provided by the incumbent and former Presidents, shall identify any specific materials, the disclosure of which he believes may raise a substantial question of executive privilege. However, nothing in this order is intended to affect the right of the incumbent or former Presidents to invoke executive privilege with respect to materials not identified by the Archivist. Copies of the notice for the incumbent President shall be delivered to the President (through the Counsel to the President) and the Attorney General (through the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel). The copy of the notice for the former President shall be delivered to the former President or his designated representative. (b) Upon the passage of 30 days after receipt by the incumbent and former Presidents of a notice of intent to disclose Presidential records, the Archivist may disclose the records covered by the notice, unless during that time period the Archivist has received a claim of executive privilege by the incumbent or former President or the Archivist has been instructed by the incumbent President or his designee to extend the time period for a time certain and with reason for the extension of time provided in the notice. If a shorter period of time is required under the circumstances set forth in section 1270.44 of the NARA regulations, the Archivist shall so indicate in the notice.
Sec. 3. Claim of Executive Privilege by Incumbent President. (a) Upon receipt of a notice of intent to disclose Presidential records, the Attorney General (directly or through the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel) and the Counsel to the President shall review as they deem appropriate the records covered by the notice and consult with each other, the Archivist, and such other executive agencies as they deem appropriate concerning whether invocation of executive privilege is justified.
(b) The Attorney General and the Counsel to the President, in the exercise of their discretion and after appropriate review and consultation under subsection (a) of this section, may jointly determine that invocation of executive privilege is not justified. The Archivist shall be notified promptly of any such determination.
(c) If either the Attorney General or the Counsel to the President believes that the circumstances justify invocation of executive privilege, the issue shall be presented to the President by the Counsel to the President and the Attorney General.
(d) If the President decides to invoke executive privilege, the Counsel to the President shall notify the former President, the Archivist, and the Attorney General in writing of the claim of privilege and the specific Presidential records to which it relates. After receiving such notice, the Archivist shall not disclose the privileged records unless directed to do so by an incumbent President or by a final court order.
Sec. 4. Claim of Executive Privilege by Former President. (a) Upon receipt of a claim of executive privilege by a living former President, the Archivist shall consult with the Attorney General (through the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel), the Counsel to the President, and such other executive agencies as the Archivist deems appropriate concerning the Archivist's determination as to whether to honor the former President's claim of privilege or instead to disclose the Presidential records notwithstanding the claim of privilege. Any determination under section 3 of this order that executive privilege shall not be invoked by the incumbent President shall not prejudice the Archivist's determination with respect to the former President's claim of privilege.
(b) In making the determination referred to in subsection (a) of this section, the Archivist shall abide by any instructions given him by the incumbent President or his designee unless otherwise directed by a final court order. The Archivist shall notify the incumbent and former Presidents of his determination at least 30 days prior to disclosure of the Presidential records, unless a shorter time period is required in the circumstances set forth in section 1270.44 of the NARA regulations. Copies of the notice for the incumbent President shall be delivered to the President (through the Counsel to the President) and the Attorney General (through the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel). The copy of the notice for the former President shall be delivered to the former President or his designated representative.
Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) authority granted by law to a department or agency, or the head thereof; or (ii) functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budget, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations. (c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
Sec. 6. Revocation. Executive Order 13233 of November 1, 2001, is revoked.
