Pelosi has doubled down on stupid, and tripled down on crazy. She won't let this bone go.

The quickest way to make this thing go away without tanking your career.

A. Tell Pelosi you are a definite Yea
B. Vote Nay.
C. Watch Pelosi blow a gasket and melt down.
D. Make sure whatever happens in November, Pelosi does not get her speakership back. Campaign on replacing crazy with reasonable.

Then you might have a chance.

Posted by: wtfci at March 12, 2010 09:33 AM (+zo63)

42 I agree with those that think Pelosi is doing this to suppress opposition. The groups and individuals opposed or pondering their votes is consuming more oxygen than the pro-Obamination process. She's seeking to reassert herself and change that balance. Add that to the compliants about imposing dealines and it seems that she is still engaged in tactical maneuvers. I must admit that she is good at that, but the fact that she can't get the needed majority out of her own party, which obtensibly can provide it, has to be galling to both her and Reid. She is suffering from a variation of the emerging weakness that Reid has been showing. She will likely keep her seat, but will also likely no longer be Speaker, as the Dems are shifted to the minority. The grumbling that she may lose the position even if the Dems maintain a majority are wishful thinking until we see more concrete evidence of that.

47 Look - making sense of any single statement Pelosi makes is difficult. Trying to make sense of her statements over time is madness. I think she's just making things up. The only thing that makes me think she'll actually be able to pass this is that I don't see the exit strategy out of the corner she's backing herself into: how does she get away with claiming she has the votes for a week when she actually doesn't and the bill doesn't pass? The lefty rage would be epic that one of their own would lie to them so blatantly. Perhaps she knows that if the bill doesn't pass that she's screwed anyway so lying about the votes she has to cause confusion and to try to keep morale up is worth it?

95  First it's reconciliation, then it's holding the Senate bill "hostage" in the House after passage, then it's the Slaughter rule, then the Senate parliamentarian says one thing, no, actually it was something else; now it's rolling several bills into one.  One day there will be a series of votes on rules and motions and bills and thingies and in the course of turning the Constitution into a game of "it depends what the meaning of the word 'bill' is," Barry will sign some papers to MSM applause and we will have socialized medicine... as a bonus the republic is finished.  The idea is to turn this process into such a convoluted mess that the army of lawyers in Congress simply claim Hellcare is passed, 'cause they say so and fuck you.

What if Pelosi's lie is intended to stall retarded Barry?

Retarded Barry is an upstart who frankly isn't long for the political scene.  His obsession with driving hard left is playing havoc with numerous Washington empires that were painstakingly built over several decades.  Congress will be Kennedy-free for the first time in about fifty years.

Who knows what kind of strong-arming Obama and Emanuel are doing?

Maybe exposing Massa was a warning shot across congressional democrats' bows.

Maybe somebody needs to investigate whoever was driving the truck that rear-ended Reid's wife and daughter (buy some stock in Alcoa before dropping that whopper).

Could it be that every meeting between Obama, Reid, and Pelosi ends with a "Just pass it, or else!" demand?

I have seen (in real life) otherwise reasonable people become intransigent over things that cannot be done.  It's a form of insanity.

Yup.

When Pelosi believes she has the votes, she'll call for the vote, and not before.  She'll also probably be better off not calling for a vote on the Senate bill AT ALL rather than calling one in which she loses. . .which means that there NEVER may be a vote on this!

If Pelosi is saying she is four votes shy, that means that at best, she THINKS she still needs to flip four more House members.

But who knows how reliable her count actually is?  Its is possible that she's being lied to by at least one House member?. . .I think so.  Is it possible that there are still individuals on the fence, or more who are going to jump ship?. . .I think so.

Note also that Stupak doesn't have to keep his entire coalition intact for this vote to fail.  With her margins being so narrow, just a few defectors will block this.

I don't think the Slaughter plan is anything more than gum-flapping.  I doubt it will ever even be tried, let alone passed, let alone passed then used to ram through Obamacare.

The parliamentary details of the plan itself may be utterly incomprehensible to the lay person, but I think pretty much EVERY American adult can understand what it means when the ones with the ball change the rules in the middle of a game to score a goal.

The ensuing backlash would make the Scott Brown election look like nothing.

If they used the Slaughter Rule, could an American citizen file suit in the courts? Or could the SCOTUS challenge it directly?

No they can not intervene directly on anything. In a very view limited number of cases they have "original juristiction" meaning that two opposing parties can take their case directly to the court. Usually those involve disagreements between the States.  The overwhelming majority of cases involve appeals that must work their way up from lower courts.

As for an everyday citizen filing a suit, sure they can file in a federal district court. The question would be "can they get standing". I think a good case could be made under this proposed mess of a rule that they could halt it based on disfranchisement if their Representative was a Rep.  The key though will be what side of the bed Kennedy gets up on though.  The 4 liberals will vote the straight commie-D line as always.

That's true. Best thing would be to start by filing in a red state. What would happen the farther it went up the court system, I don't know. But the Slaughter Rule is clearly unconstitutional. This also sets a precedent whereby a congress can overrule a president from a different political party.

179   Nancy's big problem is what to do if she finally accepts she doesn't have the votes.  She'll probably have to figure out how to save her and Obama's face, without exposing how big the collapse was and how many defections there were.

She'll probably just come out and say something like "We can't get the Sheeple's Health Care passed because the Republicans are the party of NO -- we should call them NoPublicans -- they didn't even offer a plan of their own" (who cares if it's not true).  She'll do this without ever taking a vote to ID who the defectors were (in both the Senate and House) and how bad the defection was.

This exit strategy will provide the Obamacrats the ability to continue the Sheeple health care debate while also collect $$$ thru the fall elections.  It may also provide a contiguous plan and path for moving ahead Cap & Trade and Immigration reform, where the GOP will continue to be labeled the NoPublicans, except perhaps for a couple RINOs like Lindsey Graham.

If/when Obamacare fails, the problem for the GOP will immediately be how to quickly go on the offensive by putting forth a core group who can think on their feet while articulating a clear simple conservative message of what the GOP stands for that folks of all sorts can rally around.  This group must also be willing to push Lindsay, John, Mitch, Maine sisters, and the rest of the Senate RINO dinosaurs away from the cameras and microphone so the conservative message doesn't get muddled.  My guess here -- the GOP is likely to fail to go on the offensive and instead they will just continue to be offensive RINOs.
