Petraeus Taken Ill At Senate Hearing, Is OK Now
— DrewM

He became faint but left the hearing room under his own power.

Watching CSPAN he returned a few minutes later with a cup of water to a round of applause from those present. He said he got dehydrated and was ready to resume the hearing but Senate Armed Services Chair Carl Levin said he and his colleagues were overruling him and postponing the hearing for a day.

For a guy like Petreaus who prides himself on fitness and has litterally hundreds of thousands of young men and women in the field, engaged in combat, he can't be a happy guy. While the pressure of high command doesn't carry the same physical risk as combat, the daily grind of pressure, long hours and travel must be crushing. Hopefully, this was a passing thing and will remind the General and his staff of what I'm sure they've told their soldiers through the years...drink lots of fluids.

(Apparently the blog software also took ill but is now OK. I hope)

78 #75  From the story:

The surgeon had to decide whether to open Gen. Petraeus up right away or stabilize him. The general was conscious, so the surgeon said, "Listen, I gotta make a decision about whether to take you straight to surgery or stabilize you first, give you blood."

Gen. Petraeus looked up at the surgeon and said, "Don't waste any time. Get it done. Let's get on with it."

"That's unusual", the surgeon told me. "Usually patients want to stabilize, wait." This one wanted to move.

At this point I'll note that the surgeon that day 16 years ago was Dr. Bill Frist, who later became Sen. Frist, and then Majority Leader Frist. He had never met Gen. Petraeus before.

103 Actually, that pain didn't make me pass out. When the doctor started pealing the cooked meat off my foot and the air hit the parboiled flesh, well, that really hurt...

104 Wait, what are you doing here McCain?  It wasn't a horribly bad dream? Obama is really president?  Crap, I may pass ou.....

"Actors tend towards Theatrical."

Apparently, that means dressing like Doris Day after she's been mugged by a gay dairy farmer

106 I don't care if Schock is gay or straight or the world's most dedicated onanist.  I want to know if the guy is willing to refuse to fund that monstrosity Obamacare.

Meanwhile on I-75 Ohio, 60' plastic Touchdown Jesus struck by lightning and burnt to ground. See, he does have a sense of humor.

Where is this farmer you speak of?

111 Scientific studies have proven that, had this Petraeus person taken up soccer as a child instead of right-wingnut sports, he would be as fit as me.  Or maybe bicycling, the other sport that can be fun and challenging with one ball.
And, by the way, Vlaams Belang has destroyed Belgium, SHAPE influence surely had something to do with it: Petraeus once assistant-commanded NATO forces, NATO is headquartered at SHAPE,  and their team didn't qualify for the World Cup.
See how it works?

Garret,  all those standing up for us , america, are exhausted with chaos 24/7 .

if he errored andhe did, we shouldn't shoot our own at this point, this is beyond normal angst.

but those that still fight shoulkd be forgiven a moment of brain fatigue

113 how many in here feel fatigue from the non stop chaos in last two years?

"Petreus cannot be felled by dehyrdration.  He was shot in the chest once and still survived.  There is nothing that can kill this man."

Petraeus has also survived prostate cancer. So yes, there is something that can kill him.

116 Someone should have warned the General that the congress-clowns tend to suck all the oxygen out of a room.

117 Petraeus knows that know one is going to believe "the surge worked" a second time. Not after Mookie al Sadr got to be the kingmaker in Iraq

119 General Petraeus might want to make sure he only drinks out of sealed containers while in DC. Some staffer or admin lackey might decide to "do the right thing" to him. 'ware the enemies domestic, General.

120 #75, then-LTC Petraeus commanded the Third Battalion, 187th Infantry, which is a part of the 101st Airborne. That article didn't get the unit designation right.

He also survived a broken back and shattered pelvis after a parachute accident at Fort Bragg. The guy is just about un-killable.
