— DrewM He became faint but left the hearing room under his own power.
Watching CSPAN he returned a few minutes later with a cup of water to a round of applause from those present. He said he got dehydrated and was ready to resume the hearing but Senate Armed Services Chair Carl Levin said he and his colleagues were overruling him and postponing the hearing for a day.
For a guy like Petreaus who prides himself on fitness and has litterally hundreds of thousands of young men and women in the field, engaged in combat, he can't be a happy guy. While the pressure of high command doesn't carry the same physical risk as combat, the daily grind of pressure, long hours and travel must be crushing. Hopefully, this was a passing thing and will remind the General and his staff of what I'm sure they've told their soldiers through the years...drink lots of fluids.
(Apparently the blog software also took ill but is now OK. I hope)

Although the village of about 30,000 residents is nearly half Hispanic, no Latino had ever been elected to any of the six trustee seats, which until now were chosen in a conventional at-large election. Most voters were white, and white candidates always won.
Federal Judge Stephen Robinson said that violated the Voting Rights Act, and he approved a remedy suggested by village officials: a system called cumulative voting, in which residents get six votes each to apportion as they wishheavily Hispanic areas. among the candidates. He rejected a government proposal to break the village into six districts, including one that took in

That in itself is an indictment of our present situation. That we would allow ourselves to be put into a position where one man becomes so essential. As much as I admire Petraeus, no one man should be indispensable.

Glad he's ok; SRS -- you would be correct in that assumption; there are a lot of people who would gladly vote for him. However, I'm not so sure Gen. P is of the inclination to stoop down into the lowly role of president -- it wouldn't really fit his personality well, especially now that precedent has rather besmirched the office.

The surgeon had to decide whether to open Gen. Petraeus up right away or stabilize him. The general was conscious, so the surgeon said, "Listen, I gotta make a decision about whether to take you straight to surgery or stabilize you first, give you blood."
Gen. Petraeus looked up at the surgeon and said, "Don't waste any time. Get it done. Let's get on with it."
"That's unusual", the surgeon told me. "Usually patients want to
stabilize, wait." This one wanted to move.
Small world, eh?

I really think he is giving too much information after he said he wanted to keep things very private. Unabashed love in a guy as old as him make you think "this won't end well". Hope he has a rock solid pre nup..
