I sure hope that's "weird" as in "crazy coincidence weird" and not "weird" as in "I bet he stabbed her with a salad fork during the crash weird."

7 No, not weird.  It's Alaska.  Planes go down all the time.

10 This is one of those times when the present-day lust for instant news is incredibly irritating. Fox News has spent much of the last half-hour telling us, in every conceivable way, that they don't know anything about what's going on and therefore have nothing to say.

"We think Ted Stevens was aboard, but don't know." And then a takeout on Stevens. "Reports say...," but then it turns out the "reports" come from sources as clueless as the reporters babbling away on the tube. Rumors and speculation, masquerading as "news."

Hoping for the best for all on board. All I, or anyone else, can do right now.

Is it wrong of me to wish that Levi & his reality-show pitchmen had been on board?

12 Isn't that like 3 big plane crashes in the last 2 weeks in Alaska. Wasn't there a USAF C-17 and a later civvie cargo crash? Be careful flying to or around Alaska.

Yes.

However, if you restricted it to just the pitchmen, then I think we have something to work with.

I give them credit for holding back mentioning that Stevens was on board until they got confirmation.  They have been mentioning the plane crash since Fox & Friends started, and only just mentioned Stevens in the last hour.

It may not be "wrong," but it's pretty damn insensitive.

Same goes for the "Kos kids wishing Palin was on board..." stuff. If any actually do write such comments, they deserve a roasting. Until then, it's projection, and stupid.

There are a multitude of ways of dying in Alaska.  Thoughts and prayers to Uncle Ted and all of those affected.

BTW, Mark Begich, the Dem who narrowly beat Ted Stevens in 08, lost his father in a plane crash (the one that killed Hale Boggs).

That's a shame. I hope he is alive, while he was a pork barrel senator, he did get railroaded by the left with that BS investigation which was only put on for the election.

Didn't they end up investigating the prosecution for that case because it was so transparently political?

Not to be snarky, but there are multitude ways to die everywhere.

In my three years up there, the papers reported death by bear attacks, moose stomping, freezing to death in July, falling into a glacier, avalanches, mountain climbing accidents, hitting a moose with a car, hitting a moose with a plane, snowmachine head-on crashes, and of course the Spenard Divorce.

32 Small aircraft have their advantages and disadvantages. Relying on them for so much travel of necessity would increase one's chance of being in a crash.

Best wishes to the survivors, and RIP to those who died.

Stevens was with O'Keefe, former NASA Director, currently representing a European based defense contractor's American division.

Strange political histories colliding with the current administration's announcements in this story.

Part of it may be that the department had strict rules regarding humping subordinates and that she wasn't beautiful enough for someone to risk their job.

My wife (works aviation weather for the NWS) pointed out that at least it didn't happen in the dead of winter. If that had happened, it would have been hard at best to get to any survivors.

Online records show 466 of the DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter were made from 1951 to 1967 with the US Army buying 200 of the planes in 1955 and The Royal Canadian Air Force taking 666 for Transport and Search and Rescue.

I agree, and the commenters at DU have already showed their lack of class.

My point, however, was that accusing the Kossuckers of scummy behavior in advance is essentially joining in their game. Let 'em hang themselves without our help; they'll almost always do it quickly enough.

I used to fly in the Otter quite a bit from Oxnard to LAX.  I loved that plane and so did the pilots. Never worried when I was on an Otter or a Dash 7.

55 You know, every man death diminishes me and all that, but this:

The European aerospace firm EADS said that the chief executive of its North American operations, Sean O'Keefe 54, a former NASA administrator, was also on board.

Mr. Stevens and the other passengers were flying to a lodge near Lake Aleknagik, where he often spent summers fishing. Mr. Stevens and Mr. OÂ’Keefe had been longtime fishing buddies.

The N.T.S.B. said that the crash was about 10 miles northwest of Lake Aleknagik, and the aircraft was a DeHavilland DHC-3T. The single-engine, high-wing airplane plane is owned by GCI, the Alaskan telecommunications provider, as is the lodge.

is so indicative of our problems.

A ethically challenged Senator hounded out of Congress, with an ex-government official with a corporate golden parachute job and a federal pension, flying on a government regulated monopoly's plane to their tax deductible lodge. All of this ultimately paid for with the public dime.

How do you tend the field, when it's nothing but weeds?

You need use the advanced features that deal with recovery and security A+ certificate, and support corporate environments. Again, these features are listed in the objectives but are not usually used by everyday home users.Next, don¡¯t be afraid to get on the Internet and research some of the MCP certification.
