— Ace This is pretty chilling -- the full video of the intimidation of the cops by religious lunatics after the assault on Lars Vilks, and the cops' complete acceptance of that intimidation.
A few points. Vilks' presentation was, in fact, provocative, as it deliberately juxtaposed pictures of Mohammad (?) and praying Muslims with gay fetish shots.
But, as everyone on the receiving end of artistic provocations for thirty years can tell you -- we're supposed to understand that ideas may incite, and in fact that is the very point of them, and that our right to not be offended doesn't trump anyone else's right to give offense.
That lesson was definitely not taught here, as the Violently Aggrieved won the battlefield they turned this university into only on this day, but on future days as well -- the university has decided to put an end to this madness, by which they mean they won't invite Lars Vilks back for any further lectures.
The lesson taught here is, once again, that if Muslims just get violent and criminal, they get exactly what they want.
I'm just curious - I see the police making few arrests here.
If there had been another crowd here -- a fired-up anti-jihad crowd, let's say, which intervened with the jihadists went wild, and started doing their own face-breaking -- how many decades of incarceration do you think they'd currently be facing?
Should the law not be changed to reflect the actual law -- that Muslims are in fact permitted to create disturbances of the peace and commit assault? Because if you trick non-Muslim citizens into thinking these things are crimes, and then they intervene, believing themselves to be stopping crimes in progress... then you're locking them up without fair warning, aren't you?
Eh. They've been warned, I guess. Everyone knows what the real law is.

Seriously, don't Swedes own baseball bats? I'm going to release my own movie entitled "Muhammad's Harvest". It's about 15 seconds long and consists entirely of a cut of video of a guy jumping out of the WTC and the camera following him down until gravity and electrostatic repulsion turn him into a meat puddle.
I invite any peace loving goat fuckers to protest my lecture circuit.

O/T: This here is a little extreme, even by Moron standards. And for a Canadian, it strikes me as rather impolite, which is even worse than the underlying crimes by Canadian standards.
Canadian commander accused of murders and sex attacks
One of Canada's most senior military figures has been accused of being a sexual predator responsible for up to ten murders.
In a case that has shocked and transfixed the nation, British-born Colonel Russell Williams has been charged with two killings but police think they may be more.
Detectives are re-examining up to eight unsolved murders and dozens of sex crimes across Canada stretching back three decades.
His arrest marked a fall from grace for the elite Canadian Air Force commander who once flew the Queen across the Atlantic.
Col Williams, 47, was the commander in charge of Canadian Forces Base Trenton, near Toronto, which is the country's largest military airbase and provides support for its operations in Afghanistan and Haiti.
The married father of four, has been relieved of duty and is being kept in jail ahead of a civilian trial.
The colonel was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, and his parents both attended Birmingham University.
His family emigrated to Canada when he was four and he later embarked on a highly decorated 23-year military career, spending a decade at the controls of VIP flights carrying the Prime Minister and Governor General.
In 2005, he picked up the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in the UK and flew them to Canada to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta.
He is charged with the first-degree murder of Corporal Marie Comeau, 38, who was a flight attendant under his command on VIP military flights. She was found dead at her home near the Trenton base in November.
He is also alleged to have murdered Jessica Lloyd, 27, a civilian who worked for a bus company. Her body was found by a roadside near the base in February. Both women were strangled.
The two sexual assault victims are alleged to have been attacked in their homes in September last year.
They were both bound with duct tape, blindfolded with pillow cases and tied to chairs by a masked intruder, alleged to have been Col Williams, who took photographs of them.
The colonel was an avid amateur photographer and police are examining his computer.
Another of his alleged victims has already lodged a £1.6 million civil suit against him, claiming she was sexually assaulted for two hours while her young daughter slept upstairs.
He also faces 82 charges of repeated break-ins at 47 homes in the capital Ottawa and Tweed, Ontario, a small town near the base where the colonel had a cottage.
Some of the break-ins were on Cosy Cove Lane, the road where he lived, and mostly took place on Friday and Saturday nights. He is alleged to have broken into one property nine times. Victims said their underwear drawers were rifled and lingerie stolen.
Col Williams was arrested after being stopped during a random police roadblock and police found the tyres of his Nissan Pathfinder matched a distinctive track in the snow near one of the murder scenes.
Among the previously unsolved killings now being reinvestigated is the 2001 rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman at the Trenton base.
They are also investigating unsolved crimes near Col Williams' previous postings.
Between December 2005 and June 2006 he was the commanding officer of Camp Mirage, a secretive Canadian military base near Dubai.
Since his arrest Col Williams, who has yet to enter a plea, has tried to commit suicide in prison by jamming a cardboard lavatory roll tube down his throat. He also began a hunger strike.
The charges against him have left Canada's military in a state of shock. He had been described by one superior as a "shining bright star."
General Walter Natynczyk, Canada's chief of defence staff, said: "Emotionally it's very difficult to deal with. We go forward, and we are proud to wear our uniform."

At NRO's The Corner, Mark Steyn proposes a definition of the term "secular Muslim":
As to Andy's musings on the contradictions of being a "secular Muslim", that's actually a pretty good term for the executives of Comedy Central, the publishers at Yale University Press, the custodians at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Academy of Pediatricians, etc. They don't go to Friday prayers (yet) but they accept that the strictures of Islamic law are now universal - no pix of the Prophet, a little bit of FGM never hurt anyone, etc. "Secular Muslim" seems as useful a term as any.

I doesn't matter who is doing the rioting and violence as long as it is not a "conservative organization". The anarchists can throw rocks and break windows and even assault cops and they may get an "overnight" in jail only to be released the next day. The Muslims can do the same thing.
What we are going to have to do is start the "tit for tat" with these clowns. When they assault someone who is speaking out against Muslims then a group of "conservative thugs" needs to go to the next Muslim rally and assault their speaker. Or at least arrange to assault the assaulter.

First, VILKS packed the crowd? On what evidence do you base that claim? The Muslims in that crowd voluntarily came to see Lars Vilks, cartoonist who insulted the Prophet Mohammed and who is now under a constant death threat. I don't see where he bused in the audience or hand-selected it.
Second, what was in that film is about on a par with what was in the South Park episodes censored by Comedy Central. If you missed the "Cartoon Wars" episode of South Park, the part the network DIDN'T censor depicted Jesus Christ shitting on George W. Bush and the American flag. I don't recall where either Bush supporters or Christian activists put a fatwa on Comedy Central for what they DID show, but I notice that the network got death threats from Islamicists for what they actually DIDN'T show.
In this Vilks film, why are the gay images offensive? Because the Muslims in the audience revile homosexuality to the point that they want gays EXECUTED. Vilks effectively goaded them into bringing that hatefulness out into the open in just a matter of seconds.
Fuck the Islamicists if they can't take a joke. Seriously.

See anyone else there?
In this Vilks film, why are the gay images offensive?
Ask them.
Oh, and I don't watch South Park.

i think it will be stopped because we will have liberal allies on this one. Even people like Chuck Shchumer and other NYC jews won't stand for this.
Posted by: Ben at May 14, 2010 07:06 PM (DKV43)
I think you underestimate the capacity for liberal Jews in New York to bend over backwards to prove how unobjectionable they can be to their neighbors. Some of them will keep quiet because they don't want to attract attention that might turn anti-Semitic, and others will actively lobby for the mosque because they want to prove to themselves and others what good tolerant Progressives they are.
I am hoping that this issue and related ones (like trying KSM in Manhattan and more terror plots directed against NYC) will cause some of the Jews who've been willing to go along with Progressivism to wake up and realize that Progressives are perfectly willing to see mass murder take place in NYC if the alternative is to appear intolerant or racially insensitive. And when that awakening happens, those newly-aware Jews will choose survival over political correctness.

I'm sure this has been stated before in this post, While I believe the film to be offensive to Muslims, it isn't anything more than any westerners, or other peoples in the world have to hear about their respective religions.

Posted by: HH at May 14, 2010 07:26 PM (6oDXl)
Yes, it was deliberate goading. And it was very effective. And it should be replicated ten thousand fold all across the West.
Unless you really believe that in the name of not offending the religious sensitivities of a particular group, all Westerners should subject themselves to censorship of speech, dress, behavior and thought.
This wasn't an example of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the cross-dressing gay male troupe, disrupting a Catholic mass in a cathedral. This was an artist presenting his work in a public, secular space. As such, it should not be subject to censorship by a particular religion's adherents: they should be free to denounce it, but not to silence it or its creator.
But if you really believe that we should not offend others' religious sensitivities, then I must demand that you immediately convert to my religion. You see, by refusing to follow my religion, you implicitly deny its perfect Truth -- that offends me, and the only way to remove the offense is for you to adopt my beliefs. Otherwise, I can't be responsible for what you've goaded me into doing.
Get it NOW?

the 'see anyone else there' part of your argument doesn't make sense;
Look at the film again. Gay stuff at the beginning, crowd erupts. Camera looks at the crowd. And for the next several minutes as the crowd protests.
Seems pretty deliberate to me. Or why even show the presentation, and then film the audience reaction?
Give me a break...
Tell me again how it doesn't make sense.

Find the address of the planning commission -- every veteran who has served since 9/11, every family member of any veteran, living or dead; every family member or friend who had a loved one die on 9/11...put a dab of your blood on a white handkerchief and send it to the planning commission.
It was our blood that was spilt and has been spilt and will be spilt fighting Islamic terrorism...it's the planning commission and people like them who wave the white flag of surrender...send them a message -- no more appeasement and pandering at the cost of our blood.

Yes, this 'artist' earns his Beans & Bread by provoking people. Big whoop. That's not important; the reaction of the cops immediately and the university later is what is important here
The cops let a mob taunt, curse, ridicule, and otherwise insult them. Worse--much worse--the university let these people intimidate them into preventing the public display of Typically Crappy Art by essentially banning Bad Boy Lars.
The reaction of the crowd is not the point; the reaction of the 'authorities' is. Does that give you a break?

"But, as everyone on the receiving end of artistic provocations for thirty years can tell you -- we're supposed to understand that ideas may incite, and in fact that is the very point of them, and that our right to not be offended doesn't trump anyone else's right to give offense."
True enough, but the corollary is that if you set out to piss people off, don't be surprised when you succeed. The whole freedom of speech/freedom of expression thing basically means that the government can't say in advance what you can or can't say. It provides no guarantee that you won't get your ass badly beaten by the listeners after you say it. Reciting passages from Mein Kampf at a Shoah Foundation meeting probably would go over like a reggae band at a Klan rally.

If my reaction was to attack the filmmaker violently and demand that he shut up now and forever, I would betray the fact that my faith is so very weak that mere mockery and insults could shake it.
If my reaction to such offensive speech was to demand it be silenced in the name of my religious beliefs, I would be in direct opposition to my duty as an American to defend the Constitution, with special emphasis on the First Amendment.
And if my reaction was so diametrically opposed to Voltaire's dictum -- paraphrased, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to your death the right to say it" -- I would have no business calling myself a good citizen of the West.
And I reiterate: if you really think that's what faith is all about, then you better convert to Islam right away, because until you do, you're a walking, breathing insult to everything the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is and was, and you shouldn't be surprised or even unhappy if some really religious person decides to cause you to desist from walking and breathing.
That is, if you really believe the crap you are spewing.

It does not matter what role religion plays in the life of anyone; no one has the right to shut down a presentation of Crappy Art and no one has the right to get a Crappy Artist banned because it offends them

@185: "No, it was not. Civilized men and women do not react to images and an old punk song by attempting to beat up the guy running the projector."
Actually, in most countries, the law clearly recognizes that that *is* a rather likely outcome. There's plenty of places out there where productions of that sort would be deemed a provoaction/incitement to riot.

Sign me up for your newletter.
The constitution should be amended to strip the muslims of all rights, criminalize their vile death cult, and place a bounty on each of their heads. They should be given a short warning to allow self-deportation, and after that it's open season. No effort should be spared to remove Islam from the United States both as a religion and as a collection of individuals. No one who was left would really miss them, because they bring nothing but rot. Every time you allow them to hit a certain critical mass within a city they start to cause trouble, and that trouble gets worse the more of them you have. The only thing preventing the US from having as bad a problem as Europe is the fact that we have an armed citizenry who don't go for their bullshit. Little no-go zones are already forming in places like Detroit and Dearborn in Michigan.
If anybody is serious about defending the future of this country, they need to get with the program. The US needs to become a muslim free zone.

If i recall, there were no violent protests, or riots when the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" came out, nor were there any bombings or deaths when "The Da Vinci" code was playing in theaters. Christians were openly critical of these films, and voiced their opinions and outrage, but they did so peacefully and without causing mayhem or flailing their arms about like psychos. Contrary to what Charles The Moron over at LGF would say, Christians are pretty civilized, and have been so for several centuries.
But look at these people. They have immigrated to a very left-leaning, liberal country, and have no respect for the laws or beliefs that annimate the Swedish culture. They claim it is "our country too!," yet have made no effort to accept the beliefs and laws of the land they are claiming as their own. You have to wonder why they chose to immigrate to Sweden in the first place, and you also have to wonder at the stupidity of the Swedish people to allow these nut cases into the fold. They aren't Swedish, and they have intention of adopting the culture of the Swedes. I say send 'em home, and shut the door to any further immigration from these backward nations. Let them flail about like banshees somewhere else. dix.

Christians and Buddhists, maybe. Some Hindus can get pretty nasty if their religion gets insulted. They've butchered many, many people - within recent memory - for insults to their faith. Put the chop on quite a lot of Muslims, in fact.

Sorry, that's invidious comparison. Just because 'most places' hold speakers responsible for all outcomes don't mean that's a worthy standard.
The Western standard says otherwise. You are responsible for your reaction to speech in 99% of all cases, barring the usual exemptions that we are all familiar with.

Worthy or not, it's the standard and we're the exception, and I wouldn't even count on it holding here.
Tell you what - this coming Memorial Day, go to the Vietnam Memorial when the Rolling Thunder bikers are there. Piss on the wall, drop a deuce on the walkway, wipe your ass with the flag, and then burn it. (Feel free to substitute the AIDS Quilt and San Francisco, if you prefer.)
If you're very, very lucky, you'll be able to explain to the bikers that you're just engaging in a piece of performance art protesting LBJ's shitty strategy before they tear you limb from limb. More likely, you'll be dead before you even finish the pissing part, though. Hate to tell you this but if the State Department keep giving out hundreds of thousands of visas to muslims from Pakistan, Somalia, the Gaza Strip & West Bank etc.,etc., you might not have a choice. Twenty years ago, did any of you imagine that muslim students would be able to intimidate Jewish students on almost every single campus in America ? Did you think that the Attorney General of the USA would refuse to name "radical Islam" as being behind terrorist attacks ? Did you imagine that thousands of American kids would be converting to Islam ? England switched from non-dhimmi to dhimmi in less than twenty years and the muslims are only 10% of the population. You'd be surprised how ready academia, the media and the political elites are to bow before angry muslims and the oil weapon.

How can a person be set up if they voluntarily go to something that they are fairly sure will offend them in the first place?
And if they knew prior that it would likely offend them, don't they have to option of leaving or even booing (should they desire to stay and protest)? There was a lot of shouting, but the thing that kicked it off was a physical attack and at the end a threat against the community (one of the guys says "if you don't want anything to happen in Uppsala..." how is that supposed to be interpreted?).
I'm not horribly religious, but I did have a religious upbringing -- a lot of anti-Catholic stuff offends me. I stand up for my old religion; I argue; I decide not to support certain things...but I don't threaten/perpetrate the people offending me with violence and I don't threaten other people with violence for allowing the offender to share the same space with me.
Likely if I did, I would be arrested -- and there, imho, is the rub.

Do you know what the Devil thinks when he sees men use violence to propagate the gospel? He sits with folded arms behind the fire of hell, and says with malignant looks and frightful grin: "Ah, how wise these madmen are to play my game! Let them go on; I shall reap the benefit. I delight in it." But when he sees the Word running and contending alone on the battle-field, then he shudders and shakes for fear.

And speaking of faith ...
Faith is a living, bold trust in God's grace, so certain of
God's favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it.
Such confidence and knowledge of God's grace makes you happy,
joyful and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures. The
Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you
freely, willingly and joyfully do good to everyone, serve
everyone, suffer all kinds of things, love and praise the God who
has shown you such grace.

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries.
Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.
The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.
No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.Posted by: progressoverpeace at May 14, 2010 06:49 PM (Qp4DT)

I hope you're right, SGT Dan, but it's surprising how quickly a majority of the population become indoctrinated by political correctness (especially when teachers, the MSM and the political elite are pushing the "islam is peace" bullshit 24/7).
And guns won't help when the majority of young people are muslim...they get to win by sheer numbers. The thing to be aware of is how the muslims keep gently pushing the boundaries, keep increasing their demands, keep increasing their numbers, keep winning over liberals and the media. I know a lot of Americans sneer at Europe and the muslims but what have Americans done to stop the invasion of the USA by illegal immigrants ? 20 million have sneaked across the border, they have become such a political force that the most powerful nation in the world is afraid to secure it's own borders. Hundreds of thousands of illegals march in the streets of the USA demanding rights they shouldn't have but where are the marches of US citizens against illegal immigration ? The USA soccer team is booed by tens of thousands of Mexican-Americans at a match played in Los Angeles - sorry but no English team of any sport is booed at any match held in England. I agree Europe is lost and America is our last best hope but don't think you're immune to the effects of uncontrolled mass immigration. When I see you guys secure your border and when I don't hear "Press One for English" when in the States then I'll know you guys aren't slipping down the same slope Europe did.

HH: Question. Where did that audience come from? It was all Muslim, from what I can see. And someone wanted to get on their bad side...
HH, you *really* need to watch the film again, or get new glasses. Look at the film again, and notice all the people SITTING DOWN and not yelling. They outnumber the 10-15 or so outspoken Muslim audience members. And they just sit there frowning...and sit there...they don't challenge the chanters (because that would be rude). If you stop looking at the attention-whore chanters, you can see people in the background getting up and leaving. There are even children in the audience! Some people stand up with their children and take them out of the room. Many, if not most, of the non-shouters appear to be ethnic Swedes, and some even appear to be recent immigrants, who certainly match the radical protestors in hair color and facial hair. They ALL paid taxes to view this provocative film--not just the Muslim immigrants.
Yes, the artist wanted to provoke a reaction--he's a modern artist. That's what they do. But your suggestion that the whole film is a perfomance piece orchestrated by the artist is rather ludicrous. Yeah, I'm sure he wanted to be headbutted so hard that his glasses broke--good planning, that. I guess he really took one in the noggin for his art!
Occam's Razor applies, HH.

Reread what you wrote. It's EXACTLY what you've been arguing.
YOU said that people of deep religious faith are automatically compelled to react to insults against their religions with violence.
YOU brought up Martin Luther to argue that Europe is steeped in a culture of religious violence.
YOU denounced Lars Vilks for provoking a reaction from Muslims in his audience.
The clear and inescapable conclusion from your argument is that we should not condemn Muslims (or indeed any deeply religious believers) for committing acts of violence against people who insult their religion because they simply can't help giving into their instant emotional reactions, and that we instead have a positive duty never to say or do anything that they might find offensive against their religion.
Some might say that if you can't see that's what you have been arguing all along, you're either a low-grade cretin or a squish who thinks freedom is bad if it means people's feelings might get hurt. But they're wrong. You are BOTH a cretin and a squish.
You can call me an asshole again. You can call me an asshole fifty times if you like. But at the end of the day, I will still be right and you will still be a low-grade cretin and a squish.
Thanks for playing.

You realize this isn't an argument, right?
Quotes, links, and historical accounts would constitute evidence. Asserting that someone doesn't know his history amounts to dick.
As far as I know, Martin Luther did not advocate violence on his behalf or on behalf of his beliefs. To the contrary, he spoke out against it.
If you have other evidence that shows he was an advocate of committing violence against those with whom he disagreed, then prove it. Your snotty assertions and presumed superiority don't much impress me.

You seriously need to brush up on your history...
If you think Martin Luther was a compassionate man, or even a person who tolerated religious beliefs other than his...
Well, in that case, try to ignore the religious wars in Europe. Go ahead. And good luck.

Provocative, perhaps.. but it wasn't his work. As far as I know the film was by an Iranian, and a woman, I think.
And you know the pack of Muslims must have gone there looking for a fight. You don't show up at a porno film and then be outraged there's nudity and hard core sex. They all new what Lars Vilks was about.
