— Gabriel Malor He means Bush did it. (Hah, couldn't resist.) No, he means he's planning to take the fight for oil "over there." (Hah, did it again. Sorry.) No, seriously, he must mean that it was an intentional attack that killed thousands of people and terrified a nation.
Oh, well then he must just be comparing a piddling oil spill in the Gulf to the largest, deadliest, most disruptive terrorist attack in United States history because he's an asshole.
Don't get me wrong. The spill is a BFD, as the Vice President would say, but it isn't even in the same hemisphere as 9/11. Not even the same planet. The spill, an accident, will have substantial consequences for Gulf state economies, and if the Democrats have their way will further cripple the domestic petroleum industry. That's a big deal, but it doesn't "echo 9/11."
Obama is comparing the two for the simple and repulsive purpose of inflating the spill's significance. Y'see, if it's on the scale of 9/11, well then he can be forgiven a bit for handling it so poorly. After all, it's so unprecedented and world-shattering. And if he eventually manages to sort it out (or at least take the credit when BP does) then, why, he'd just be the Awesomest One Evar.
The full piece from Politico's Roger Simon has to be read to be believed, but the 9/11 comparison really takes the cake. Click over for the whole thing, but here are some highlights:
He is pathetically unaware of how much a crybaby he still sounds about his treatment from the press.
Hardening one of his persistent complaints throughout his presidency, Obama expressed frustration with press coverage of his administration’s response, declaring that “the media specifically is demanding things that the public aren’t demanding.” He contended that “the overwhelming majority of the American people” have reasonable expectations.
Even Maureen Dowd (link is to Don Surber) is calling him out about being "elitist, too, as well as thin-skinned and controlling" with respect to the press.
And then it gets really serious. Is President Obama micro-managing decisions on the Gulf response like President Johnson mismanaged the Vietnam War?
“What the public wants to see is us solving this problem. And that may not make for good TV. Me sitting in a meeting with [Energy] Secretary [Steven] Chu and [Gulf national incident commander] Thad Allen and looking over maps and figuring out how boom gets someplace, that’s not something that is high theater. But ultimately that’s going to make the biggest difference in terms of whether or not the Gulf recovers.”
I really hope that was just a hypothetical and not an actual statement of what he's been up to. Frankly, I'm surprised by the confession given the miles of oil booms that the President and his crack team let sit in a warehouse.
Obama's back to blaming anyone but himself (suprise!) for the problems faced by the Democrats running up to November:
“So I’m going to be fighting on [Democrats in Congress'] behalf and doing everything I can and using my bully pulpit to communicate that fact to the American people,” he said. “I know there’s an anti-incumbent mood out there right now because … people are frustrated about the hit that the economy has taken. … But what I’m going to remind people of is we didn't create this mess.”
Oh, but you didn't fix it either, buddy boy. Simon suggests that this interview previews the White House strategy for the elections this fall. If so, I pray that they stick with it. 'Cause God knows that the electorate always perks up for a whiny, sad-sack President.
His delusion:
And he said he will use the rest of his presidency to try to put the United States on a course toward a “new way of doing business when it comes to energy.”
He sure will. In Portuguese.

This is exactly like 9/11, except an oil rig got knocked down and several thousand fish died instead of two office towers getting knocked down and several thousand Americans dying. I can totally see the similarity between the two.

By NANCY BENAC
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- On Sept. 11, 2001, Barack Obama was driving to a state legislative hearing in Chicago when he heard the first sketchy reports of a plane hitting the World Trade Center on his car radio. The 40-year-old state senator spent the afternoon in his law office watching "nightmare images" of destruction and grief unfold on TV.
Within days, he'd issued a statement about what the nation should do next.
Beyond the immediate needs to improve security and dismantle "organizations of destruction," Obama wrote, lay the more difficult job of "understanding the sources of such madness." He wrote of "a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers," of "embittered children" around the world, of the seeds of discontent sown in poverty, ignorance and despair.
The nuanced musings of an obscure state senator, Obama's statement never even made the big Chicago dailies.
Posted by: Editor at June 13, 2010 05:41 PM (YX6i/)
Yes, we should grieve for and support the families of those men who died on the rig when it exploded, but it's not to the scale of the 9/11 attacks in any fashion.
Don't joke, Blazer. Eco-idiots like Peter Singer like to compare killing animals for food as so-many "9/11s".

That is BS. He could have every skimmer in the world cleaning up the oil in the gulf, he could have approved the barrier islands that jindel wanted a month ago. If he was on top of it he could have had enough equipment at the wellsite to contain the oil on the surface and suck it up, he could have returned the guy in Maine's call who has miles of boom and the ability to make 20 miles of it a day. He could have dicided it was a major disaster when it happened instead of waiting 12 days.

Me sitting in a meeting with [Energy] Secretary [Steven] Chu and [Gulf national incident commander] Thad Allen and looking over maps and figuring out how boom gets someplace...
Wow, DEAR LEADER just cares so much. ... It is always about him.
The President of the United States, with competent subordinates, has no need of making such relatively minor, tactical decisions. We already know that the RINette Senators from Maine already notified this administration weeks ago about the hundreds of thousand feet of boom ready to be manufactured in that state. The response from this administration has been crickets.
We know that the the federal government is hindering state and local governments through the EPA. BP also doesn't seem too energized to do shit either.
A POTUS that actually gave a fuck would do three things:
1. Declare the Gulf region a disaster area.
2. Waive the Jones act.
3. Tell the EPA to stop being officious twits and let the state and local governments take action.
Instead, at best, we have a man with zero executive experience voting present or, worse, a man actively sabotaging the response to this disaster to further a political agenda. In my opinion, the latter option is what is going on. You don't need 60 days to still be fucking around trying to determine where assets are.

Just Hang Ticket -- Opps, oil leaking from BP, BP big donor, maybe it's not a big leak. BP and Halliburton will get fixed, so just hang... Everything be good...
Big Deal Ticket -- Hmmm, seems the leak is not getting fixed... Maybe we should do something -- hmmm, my econuts heavy department of Interior has no clue, none have any experience dealing with oil, so hmmm... We'll come out and say this leak is a big deal... And hope BP and Halliburton fixes it. Got to play some golf... Hows the NBA playoffs looken,,, Got an Indonesian trip planned, how fun... Could use break...
Just Plug the Damn Hole Ticket- Oh Scat... Still leaking... Just plug the damn hole... Use my daughter as a tool... That's the ticket...
Uh, Damn Deep Hole Ticket... Wow, this Deep Hole a big deal that ain't going away. How do we turn this into a political money maker...? Let's ban all drilling...
Uh, We're in Charge Ticket -- Need to look like we're in charge, so let's say 'we're in charge'. Fire someone who doesn't know anything about oil so we'll look important... Iny meany minee moe, catch an econut by the toe.. & fire them... It's not difficult, everyone we've got working on this administration is an econut... Got to look Presidential...
Uh, We're in Charge Ticket Sequel -- Congressional question -- 'Has BP done everything you asked'...... ...... (Uh, we really haven't asked them to do anything because we don't know what we're doing to make any intelligent requests of them, the best we can do is hand out permits for them to do what they want)..... (so...) (hmmm).... 'yes, BP has done everything we've asked (because truth be told, we have asked them to do anything because we're clueless)...'... or something like that...
BP is going to pay Ticket --BP needs to speed up handing out money to anyone claiming to be damaged by the spill. Who cares if no evidence of damage is provided -- just start throwing BP money at it... Force BP to put some third party, like government union bureaucrats, charge of handing out money... No one will complain the program will be corrupt and full of fraud and political graft like Katrina... Now we should start getting some traction...
Super Suck Ticket -- Yeah, Super Suck up the oil... Opps, US unions might get cut out because a lot of this technology is foreign owned... Hmmm... Need to study that a bit... Obsfuscate, stall, .... Don't get sucked in...
Get Attorney's involved Ticket -- Attorney's are always good about giving political money to Obamacrats that promote full attorney employment... Who cares of they scare off other oil folks that might want to help... Just get the damn money flowing back to us... (but don't make it obvious)...
.......................
We're Clueless Ticket -- The only ticket that really covers all those above, and those that will follow...

Dude did nothing - NOTHING - to deserve more than a comfy mid-level job in a government bureaucracy. He should be managing a DMV location, not the goddamn nation.

I guess your are right but man, ten to twenty million dollars for one house seems like an awful lot of money to me, an awful lot. And that has to be cash because it is my understanding that you can only deduct your mortgage interest on an up to million dollar mortgage so the other 9 or 19 million are your own money.
Wondering, since it is long island, if the wall street guys are taking their money on shore and putting it into their dwelling to make sure they keep it.

I don't think so.
And does like 9/11 mean the moslems blew it up?

But what IÂ’m going to remind people of is we didn't create this mess
But you did. Unemployment was 4.9% when Democrats took control of the Congress (Jan 2007). The economic panic was in anticipation of complete Democrat governance - just because it happened before you took office doesn't mean it's not your fault. Our economy tanked because the market correctly predicted what a Democrat House, Senate, and President would do: borrow, spend, tax, regulate, and pay back the unions.

'Cause God knows that the electorate always perks up for a whiny, sad-sack President.
---------
So my beloved Broncostm have been mired in mediocrity since the John Elway era. The last four seasons have been pretty much 50/50 exercises in frustration. Pat Bowlen tries to shake things up with a new coach who (I hope only hypothetically) goes 3 and 13 his first season and things are not looking better after a terrible draft.
New coach calls a presser. "Y'know, things are bad, and don't look much better down the line. But bear with me, I inherited this mess from Mike Shanahan. I think the fans understand that and have reasonable expectations about our current course."
Um. No. We expect you to man up and field a competitive team. That kind of statement gets you the dreaded "vote of confidence" from the coach. And you are out golfing the next weak telling your caddy that you used to coach the Denver Broncos. You whiny weasel.
Obama, you deserve no pity, and based upon the promises you made during your campaign, I give you no quarter. The only thing you deserve is a swirly and an old-fashioned atomic sit-up.

This next speech on the oil he's going to give. This is going to be the cornered rat speech.
Look at the way he's vainly trying to lash out at BP. Like sending that idiot Eric Holder down there. He's dying for anything to point to. "Don't look over here; look over there."
He'll take any distraction from the oil.
Maybe he could treat our friends even worse? Maybe... something. If he could just manufacture a conflaguration in any other area, he could say "look over there" and not feel so hurt and afraid. And cheated. Cheated out of his rightful due, since he's so awesome and all.
This could be a hell of a revealing look at, well, what we've known for quite some time around here. It was a year ago we started talking about the NPD suffering man-child lashing out with a temper tantrum when he started not getting his way--the easy peasy way he's had things float his way all his life.
We have a dysfunctional brat in the White House. He's an ugly soul, and we're not done paying dearly for electing him.

Dear Obama:
Here's "leadership." Come out boldly with reasons to resume oil well development in the gulf. Point out that we've drilled over 3000 or so wells down there, IIRC, and we've never had a blowout. Really make that case. Tell everyone that you're satisified that with your new regulations and increaserd oversight, things will be fine. (See, you get to pat yourself on the back there.) Point out this has to be done immediately to save jobs down there (true), and talk about how you really care about the people dependant upon the gulf for their livelihood.
People will think, "Wow, he's got balls, and he's right. And he's saving all those jobs. And we need that oil."

I think most of the AoSers realize there really isn't much B to the O can do.
Wrong. He sets the priorities for federal agencies. He can waiver rules and provide funding. If he declares an emergency, he can appoint managers for the situation to coordinate federal response.
All he had to do is declare an emergency and appoint Russ Honore' his representative. Shit would have been fixed by now.
Posted by: Penultimatum at June 14, 2010 03:32 AM (niydV)
Yes he did create this mess of an economy. The last time Republicans were in control if the budget, 2006, the deficit was 166 billion and unemployment was 4.6. Then Democrats got the majoriites and in 2007 the deficit went up and unemployment started up. And unemployment has been going up relentlessly every quarter since the start of 2007. by 2009 democrats had quadrupled the deficit. The housing crash is directly releated to democrat policies of 'free houses for everyone' Then democrats got the Whitehouse and the the deficit was almost two trillion dollars. The democrat promises of higher taxes, higher costs for less healthcare, and Cap And Trade energy taxes designed to bankrupt (in Obama's own words) energy companies scare teh hell out of everybody so that no one dares to hire because you can't tell how much money the democrats are going to take from us in their efforts to cripple the economy so they will have the emergency they need to destroy the free market forever.
The democrats made this economy. They have been in control since the beginning of 2007. It is lie that they inherited the economy. But if a democrat is talking they are lying.

If the oil spill is like 9-11, then shouldn't Obama be apologizing to BP for America and bending over backwards to show BP what a nice guy he is?
Maybe we shouldn't use the word "oil spill". Instead, we can call it "man-caused enviornmental difficulty".
After all, the oil industry is an industry of peace and cleanliness. We should recognize that this disaster is not a reflection on the industry. It was just an over-worked, frustrated oil platform that reacted like any oil platform would have in its situation.
Instead of attacking the oil companies, we should change our environmental policies to make them more oil-industry friendly. Then there would be no more spills.

This is by far one of the worst experiments in the history of this wonderful country. This man wanted to downplay 9/11 as if it were just something the GOP invented during his campaign.
Now he has gall to claim the SPILL echos 9/11?
What a shameless fucking clown.
I keep hoping that this is all just a bad dream or that I am merely watching a really long Monty Python episode..

I filled out a claim form at BP dot com over the weekend and sent this:
"No claim. Trying to submit an idea or two:
Hello & I Hope y'all are doing okay under these circumstances.
How about forging as heavy an anvil (for lack of a better word, as this would be a custom foundry job) as can be hauled out to the site and accurately positioned on the hole as to have the horn end go into the hole as deeply as possible. Wrap the cylindrical part of this massive weight with an appropriate gasket material. Make sure you forge / cast / weld a ring on the thing in order to pick it up A: in case you miss & B: in case it doesn’t work! Bonus points if the metal used comes from all the cars out there gobbled up in the cash for clunkers fiasco! Freighters carry entire train loads of rail cars, right? They have to have MASSIVE anchors and the ability to pull them up, just jerry rig this (I dunno, 100,000 pound massive custom shaped cork?) to that system and guide it in remotely with whatever the hell you brainiacs make that can do that stuff. Google “mile long anvil”, go to that site, look at those pictures to see what I mean by the “horn” of an anvil and brainstorm the shape and weight and gasket from there. I think it is a damned good idea and smart people might be able to run with it. Good luck!
As far as clean up goes, how about kitty litter? It works on driveways. Drop it from fire fighting planes or dump it out of C-130Â’s. I imagine you can figure out how to recover it later. HasnÂ’t extracting it from shale become less expensive over the years? Hopefully you can find and access this oil source from another point after the skyscraper anvil cork is dropped on it. And I also hope you can recover what ends up in the bottom of the gulf after you drop eighty billion trillion googol tons of kitty litter on it. Note to self: find episode of how itÂ’s made to learn how to manufacture kitty litter. Or, find and invest in every kitty liter manufacturer in the world. This is a potential gold mine. Er, oil field? Again, good luck!
Now, be honest. Have I just done more than President Obama? I sought out a way to share ideas that I think might work and found no way to do it, so I am sending them to BP the only way I can figure out: here. Has he floated any ideas by anyone? Or is he just looking for "asses to kick" in between rock parties and golf?"
Someone way smarter than me summed up my stupid ideas something like this: "So, 5000 feet of chain and a giant stopper". The point still stands, WTF has Obama done? I submit that I have done more. At least my conscience is clean. Thank you very much,

Do you know that anyone who is an appointed official, whether they are President, or King, or Prime Minister, is appointed by God. I think Obama was appointed, because of the evil that the United States has tolerated. He is in office as a judgement for us, to pay for our many sins, and our many crimes against other nations, and to our own people. Like the widespread acceptence of "same sex marriage." God is not going to stand for that.
Obabma can only do so much anyway. If Obama wants something, he has to get permission(approval) from Congress. Congress can deny anything, so truthfully your anger should be at Congress. Don't be mad at the President, he is just a puppet in the hands of the people who are really in charge. Google "The Illuminati" and you'll will see the force behind the World leadership, and control. The President is only doing what he is told to do. Contact Bush and he will agree, because he and his family have a long history with The Illuminati. PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO GET SOME TRUE KNOWLEDGE, educate yourself, the information is there FOR "FREE" here on the Internet.
Stop being so gullable, and stop believing everything you hear in the NEWs, they are controlled by the Illuminati too, and they feed the media the propaganda that they want YOU ALL to believe. IS THERE ANY INTELLIGENT LIFE OUT THERE. CAN YOU HEAR ME? Get help people YOU ARE ALL BRAIN WASHED. Obama is NOT the enemy!
We are controlled by a much BIGGER FISH than Obama.

Natalie, you'd probably be much happier over at Huffpo.
But you are right about the Obamamesssiah not being the enemy.....he's just a dweeb that is way, way over his head. We consider him totally incompetant. But, hey! Proves that George Soros can get his way when he puts his money to it. And, by the way, if you haven't noticed Nancy and the gang pretty much control both Houses. And they love their Obamamessiah!
But, hey! Proves that George Soros can get his way when he puts his money to it.

Oh, well then he must just be comparing a piddling oil spill in the Gulf to the largest, deadliest, most disruptive terrorist attack in United States history because he's an asshole.
Yup, pretty much.
