President Pitching Wedge: "Absolutely Clear" Economy Is Heading In The Right Direction
— Ace

If bankruptcy is your goal, I guess.

“But what is absolutely clear is that we are headed in the right direction — and that the surest way out of these storms we’ve been in is to keep moving forward, not back,” the president said in prepared remarks set for delivery at Smith Electric Vehicles in Kansas City, Mo.

...

Obama made the trip to Kansas City as part of his “recovery summer” tour, promoting efforts by his administration to quell concerns that the United States has not added as many jobs as promised and could be slipping into a second recession. While the unemployment rate fell in June, the government estimated that a net 125,000 jobs were lost that month.

“All of our efforts, taken together, are making a difference. A year and a half ago, our economy was shrinking rapidly; now it’s growing,” Obama said. “The economy was bleeding jobs; it’s now adding private-sector jobs, and has been for six straight months.”

Meanwhile, Obama posts the third-biggest single-day debt increase in American history.

The champion debt increase title is also held by Obama, as is the runner-up.

The nation's debt leapt $166 billion in a single day last week, the third-largest increase in U.S. history, and it comes at a time when Congress is balking over higher spending and debt has become a key policy battleground.

The one-day increase for June 30 totaled $165,931,038,264.30 - bigger than the entire annual deficit for fiscal year 2007...

Daily debt calculations jump and fall, and big shifts are common. But all three of the biggest one-day debt increases have occurred under the tenure of President Obama...

On Wednesday, the Congressional Budget Office said the government has recorded a $1 trillion deficit for the first nine months of fiscal 2010, which began Oct. 1. That's slightly down from 2009's record $1.1 trillion deficit at this point.

Right, so the best way to get through a hurricane is instead of sailing around it,  sail right into it.

16 "But what is absolutely clear..."

Hasn't some public-speaking wonk on Zero's staff clued to the fact that everyone already knows anything that follows "absolutely clear" or "perfectly clear" is a total lie - ala "not one dime" ?

Enormous debt ?  Check.

U6 unemployment (the one that counts the "under-employed" and "discouraged" over 16% ?  Check.

Forecasts calling for either deflation or (somewhat more likely) anemic growth for the next 2-3 years ?  Check.

Sounds like a recovery to me.

So why the hell do half the pundits at NRO and RedState still claim Barry's going to be re-elected ?

17 The guy has no idea what he's talking about. He has no idea "what got us where are today." It's infuriating. Up until the Pelosi, Reid, Obama axis of evil, this country had basically 30 years of awesomeness. He can't even see his own policies for what they are. I'm not sure, but 2012 is still a long ways away, and people have short memories.  If the economy is still in the toilet 14 months from now, he's probably gone.  If there's a reasonably strong (even if temporary) recovery during that time, he has the incumbent advantage.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Obama administration heads to court on Thursday aiming to reinstate a six-month moratorium on deepwater oil drilling imposed after the devastating BP Plc Gulf of Mexico oil spill, but blocked by a federal judge.

Feldman ruled last month that the Interior Department failed to adequately take into account the economic impact the drilling suspension would have on the industry as well as local communities.

The Justice Department, which appealed, will argue that Feldman wrongly substituted his judgment in place of Interior Department expertise and that the moratorium was narrow by only affecting drilling at 33 sites.

Like Barry and his gang care about economic impact.

If any household ran their finances the way democrats run the nation they'd be penniless and homeless in 30 days.

We can not sit by and watch these leftwing seditious bastards destroy this nation, unconstitutionally usurp power, grovel to our enemies and back stab our allies, dismantle our healthcare system and attack the wealth creators that create jobs- poor people do not create jobs, welfare checks do not create jobs as the dumbest woman in America- nancy pelosi- would have you believe.

If the Founding Fathers were alive today they'd have already hanged these leftwing bastards. At some point soon it's going to have to be open season on the democrat filth. Litter the streets with the demo0crat politician and union leader corpses and I guarantee the bastards in DC will find religion and begin adhering to the Constitution and undoing the liberal policies that have ruined this nation.

Looking forward to that, and best of luck! (not that you'll need it)

86 This isn't the original article. It's been changed. At 7:52 Central the article said: "The nation's debt leapt $166 billion in a single day last week, the third-largest increase in U.S. history, and it comes at a time when Congress is balking over higher spending and debt has become a key policy battleground. [...] Daily debt calculations jump and fall, and big shifts are common. But all three of the biggest one-day debt increases have occurred under the tenure of President Bush, and all of the top six have been in the past two years - an indication of just how quickly the pace of deficit spending has risen under Mr. Obama and President George W. Bush." I know because I emailed a buddy at work this morning quoting above and saying it didn't make sense. Three of the biggest increases have occurred under the tenure of GWB but all of the top six have been in the last two years. They blamed GWB originally but I don't see any correction now.

87 This isn't the original article. It's been changed. At 7:52 Central the article said: Hold it right there, comrade. Didn't you read my book? "Who controls the past, controls the future." You didn't think we would let Barry be tarnished by a concept as outdated as truth? Oh, and we declare you an unperson for bringing this up.

Jay in ames,

A few years back I decided to see if I could take my two favorite hobbies--writing and poker--and make money at them.

I managed to succeed at both. I stopped treating poker like a part time job after the crackdown on online poker.

But I kept writing.

At first it was just content. Later, I studied copywriting (sales writing) and started writing sales letters for clients, which is far more lucrative.

It's still relatively small potatoes in the scheme of things because I don't have the guts to quit my full time job, but the extra income is nice. I just sock it into my IRA.

Plus I have the confidence that I can make money anywhere I go so long as i have my laptop and an internet connection.

I owe the guy who kept pushing me to write for money a debt of gratitude. He told me at least a half dozen times, "You should do this for a living."

The lesson is, if your friends keep telling you that you're good at something, believe them. Then find a way to make money from doing it.

@ #75...while Paul Ryan would be acceptable (I've been a fan of his since I read about Fannie and Freddie sending "shadows" to his town hall meetings aout 4 years ago)-I truly think we need a candidate with conservative credentials and executive experience.  When was the last time a sittingmember of the House of Representatives was elected president?  I'm thinking Mike Pence but I could be persuaded...

ugg...when first America I come, me no write good English.  Meant to say that my "current" preference is the governor from Indiana, but I could be persuaded by any fiscally conservative (tax and spending cuts) with executive experience.

You forget the less than useless opposition party.  Best if the slate is wiped clean by public trials and hangings of those on BOTH SIDES as a "teaching moment" to those who would put their own interests ahead of The Constitution, The Country and We, The People.
