— Ace Miller and Hayworth are not expected to win, but we can hope. Results at top of page.
And if you're an Arizona resident, yeah, pull the lever for Hayworth. You're not electing a flight commander, you're electing a Senator.
And definitely pull for Miller and pull hard. Then go get your kids, dress them up in Groucho glasses and mustaches, fake them up some ID and have them vote seven or eight times too. No one checks; it's the Democratic way!
Some stuff at Hot Air.
Below, John McCain shows how he won another Republican Primary despite being a closet Democrat (and a closet Democrat in much the same way Liberace was a closet pianist).
Video funny thanks to rdbrewer.
Florida, Florida, Florida: McCollum and Scott neck-and-neck for gubernatorial nomination, and a ridiculously close three-way race in FL-24.
Meeks won, so that's good for Rubio.
Bang...? Oh dear. Jim Geraghty writes on Twitter:
In the Fla. GOP Senate primary in Florida,787K votes cast; in the Dem primary, 489K votes cast.
Now, the GOP Senate race was all but uncontested. (A pair of not-very-serious candidates will collect 15% between them.)
And the Dem Senate race was contested.
There is a big contested gubernatorial race at the top of the ballot, so that brings out the GOP, but... okay, fine, so both parties had a reason to vote in the primaries; why does the GOP enjoy a nearly 45% edge in turnout in a 50/50 state?
Neck and Neck and Neck: FL-24 GOP Primary: 88% reporting Adams 31 Diebel 29 MIller 27. Nathan Wurzel.

Florida Senate is a 2 way race. Meek was at 25% 4 months ago and now he is at 17% and that's with the knowledge he was likely to win the Dem nomination and all the hype of the primary race. The Dems flocked to him, the ones that bothered to vote, in the primary but they will slowly spin off to Crist now as the only liberal with a shot at victory.

Oh, don't worry, I'm focusing. See? This is me focusing. *grits teeth and directs piercing glare at a map of the US*
>>>> These numbers 7 weeks ahead, rather than them getting "closer" indicate those states are gelling under ONE trendline, not waffling anymore.
See, CAC, this is where you make your mistake and what I have been trying to say for quite some time now. In the end elections, believe it or not, are not a numbers game. They hinge on the composition of electorates (this is why, for example, CA's basically fucked) and the personalities of specific candidates. "Trendlines", even in wave elections and positive environments, only go so far; if enough Florida voters still really like their governor, then he's got a great shot at being the next senator from the state no matter how strong the Republican wave is, or even how much of a carrot-skinned idiot he is. Waves are good for a boost but only that; the core of every race is still who the candidate is and what the electorate looks like. That means all the "toss-up" states you mention are doable, but tough sells (and it's totally unrealistic to consider CT a "tossup" unless McMahon starts tying Blumenthal in polls; MoE is not going to save a Republican in a state that blue).
Optimism's good; lying to ourselves will only lead to some pretty huge letdowns.

Since we're talking about the Senate and long shots/underdogs, does anyone know the status of the Oregon race? Wyden is heavily favored, but (1) last I saw, his reelect numbers were at 50 or lower; and (2) Oregon isn't quite as leftist as everyone thinks; the Portland area is, but the state overall tends to be about even in competitive years. (OTOH, Alaska and Arizona aren't nearly as far right as everyone thinks, either, which is why Murkowski and McCain can win in those states).
Also, is there any move toward putting up a fight against Gillibrand? Not only is she vulnerable, being a newcomer and unelected, but there's an outside chance that if she's in trouble, enough people might not split the ticket to make Chuckie the Evil Doll Schumer have to fight for his life in a GOP-tilted electorate.

Indeed.
Not that you need advice from a random a-hole on the internet, but I was thinking it might be better for family's sake to kind of put a period on the whole affair.
No doubt the neph-tist is an ass, rude, mis-educated, etc. but arguing politics with family never has an upside. I mean, in the end, what do you 'win?'
He's a dick; that's not going to change no matter how well constructed your replies are. People don't change their viewpoints without a bit of personal difficulty and research on their own.
Just a thought. Good luck to you and your son, never the less.

Oregon could very well be a sleeper race; Wyden's support has been pretty soft all year. Have been hoping to see this race develop further in the GOP's favor, but so far Huffman's support seems stagnant. A strong Republican gubernatorial nominee (which OR has) at the top of the ticket could help him.

Rubio is pretty good in front of a camera. I know its a softball interview, but still. The Tan Man really has no cards left to play. He needs Dim support, and alot of it, so it's going to be hard for him to run as a credible centrist. Oh yeah, he's also an obvious scumbag and opportunist.

But it doesn't, really. The ODDS get a lot better across the board for the beneficiary of a wave election, which is why seats in a whole bunch of dark-blue states are up for grabs in the first place. The political center has shifted to the right, and that will hurt the Democrats everywhere, definitely. But if the candidate is a dud, no wave can save him or her; while if the candidate is strong enough he or she can survive and even thrive in hostile environments.
Connecticut's a great example of this. In any other year it wouldn't be on anyone's radar; the wave has made it a possible GOP pickup. But who is on the ticket still makes all the difference. Chris Dodd was a likely loser as the Dem nominee in CT (I believe that if he'd stayed on the ticket, he'd be trailing by 20 points by now), but "Iron Dick" Blumenthal, who at least until the Vietnam stuff came out was probably the most popular Democrat in a very Democratic state, is (I believe) the significant favorite.
Florida, on the other hand, would be a solid GOP hold in this environment if Crist hadn't decided to blow everything up. Asshole that he is, leftist tool that he is, as likely to caucus with the Dems as he is, he's still just popular enough in Florida that a three-way race with him as the independent becomes a giant question mark. I think Rubio wins but it will go all the way to Election Day. (The only obvious outcome here is that Meek loses.)
Illinois would probably be a more obvious GOP pickup if the nominee were someone Republicans could get excited about, instead of Mark Kirk. Delaware seems to be an easy GOP pickup unless Christine O'Donnell upsets Mike Castle in the primary (it could very well happen), in which case the general election against Coons becomes much less clear. And so on.
The identity of the candidate, and the makeup of the electorate, are the foundations of every election. Because of that, all politics truly are local. National waves just help to push things in one direction or another, but whether or not they're strong enough to make the difference always depends on who's riding the wave, and where they're coming ashore.
