Q: What's The Opposite of a Leg Thrill? A: A Tsunami Wince
— Ace

The old leg tingles have given way to a prickling up the spine for Chris Matthews.

He looks like someone just told him Obama's married and probably not leaving his wife.

Is it that bad? Depends on who you ask. Gallup says yes, it's that bad; 50-43 in favor of Republicans on the generic Congressional. A seven point gap and Republicans at 50%.

But if you ask Rasmussen, on the other hand, the answer is also yes, but it's Hell yes. 48-36, a twelve point gap.

Those are both highs for this cycle.

Thanks to JonathanE for the poll tips.

Bob Shieffer, Do They Have Televisions On Your World? If So, Do They Cary FX? Do They Carry Justified On Your Planet's Cable System?

Schieffer's here to talk politics, and the party that's in big trouble in November, and that means that Schieffer's here to talk about Republicans.

Bob Shieffer then asked if the Saints would be able to contain Indianapolis' high-powered offense in last year's Super Bowl.

You shouldn't be, because this election isn't about the GOP and the tide has risen far beyond their or anyone else's power to dissipate it.  This is going to be a 1000% referendum on Barack Hussein Obama and his party, and people are pissed like I have never seen before in my lifetime.  The Republicans are going to be the beneficiaries of all this by default.

It's not how much of a communist, or a liberal, or a gay, or an aggrieved minority....it's how much of a complete idiot. From trying to televise the testimony so that people could be targeted by mobs to saying "tradition doesn't matter" and "tradition matters" in the same opinion depending on which side is being discussed, from reeling off a wish-list of unproven statements in order that they may be ordained to be facts, to playing hooky-games with standing to try to put the kibosh on actual debate -- this judge has done his level best to make sure that nobody will see this as a fair reading of the law.

It was just as fun in 1994. Peter Jennings was pure awesome as he was able to look not only shellshocked but smarmy and arrogant at the same time. I flipped back and forth between ABC and CNN for hours and everyone on there looked thoroughly confused and unable to comprehend what they were witnessing. Sort of like the look I had on my face when I was a kid and opened the Christmas present expecting to get Thriller but instead found Air Supply's Greatest Hits.

I'm predicting big gains for the Whigs this cycle.

Only real lace whigs, though, made from human hair.

102 My only comment about Norah O'Donnel is that those lips look like they could suck the chrome off a Mack Truck.

Now's a great time for the Ewok to re-post that photo he took of Norah and the pudding....

103 O/T:  Make those videos boys and  girls....MSNBC seems to have hired the obnoxious jackass who does the "young turks" stuff and they have smirk on if up there as a conservative?  It's too funny.....

104 I'm almost as worried about the GOP screwing this up as I am worried about what the GOP will or won't do if they don't screw this up and win Congress.

107 I hate the old media.  Aging hippies who only care about keeping the hippie dream alive.

Hippies destroyed everything, just like the Black Plague.

No official mention at Sycophant Junction about Harry Reid's unfortunate announcement that he doens't support the Mosque.  Point and laugh - and wave.

But Sharon Angle is still crazy crazy crazy!

109 So apparently you can lie to blatantly to the electorate.

You can make a strong argument that what President Obama changed from the government of Sen Obama is what the American people didn't want changed, and what he hasn't changed is what they do.

Please, please, please let the mushy middle actually start paying attention to candidates from this point forward...

110 It was just as fun in 1994. Peter Jennings was pure awesome as he was able to look not only shellshocked but smarmy and arrogant at the same time.

Something about the American people having a "temper tantrum".  Ol' Pete was just full of ... Canadian Values, or something.

111 Dan Rather is a lefty goon. But he was saying that the Democrats were heading for the buzzsaw WEEKS ago on Chrissy's show. And while he has his liberal love, I think he liked coming up with folksy sayings more than even having his side win. 1980, he actually interrupted Cronkite by commenting on Reagan's victory that it was "Americans were tired of Carter, they felt he had failed, they wanted someone new, and they went with that." Cronkite kept sputtering in Carters defense, but Rather told it like it was. 1984 is fun to re-watch too, and 1988. He was always entertaining when reporting election results. "The Democrats are more doomed than a salmon in a bear den", shit like that. Always entertaining. I almost forgave him for bias because of that. Don't know what happened to him in 2004 though. He went way, way off the deep end.

The Washington Post stock price is sinking like Obama's poll numbers:

Down $27.83 today and over $120.00 in the past month.

Our only hope is to keep voting out all incumbents until politicians get our messages. This will require several election cycles. Our messages are:

Shrink the government.

Cut the spending.

Do not increase taxes, except on those who don't pay any now.

Cut the salaries and benefit packages of politicians.

Cut govt workers salaries and benefits, as they are too high.

Devolve power to state and local governments and away from the federal government.

Secure the borders.

Loosen the ROE, win the wars with overwheming force and withdraw.

Follow the Constitution as written.

Drill.

Sort of like the look I had on my face when I was a kid and opened the Christmas present expecting to get Thriller but instead found Air Supply's Greatest Hits. I lived in DC then. Man, to (kinda, sorta, slightly) quote Oscar Wilde, a conservative would have needed a heart of stone to ride on the Metro the morning after the 1994 elections without laughing. Everyone looked like they were Timmy and Lassie just got run over by a dump truck. What a delightful day that was.

118 So, Mr. Kaine, since this is a typical midterm election with the Democrats happening to be in power, what trivial number of wins do you expect the opposing party to pick up in spite of their suckitude relative to the Dems? And how misinformed is the American voter to switch support from clearly better leaders to a bunch who would prefer to go back in time to prehistory?

Obama is the lone, oncoming rider in that loooong
scene in "Lawrence of Arabia" who shifts and reshapes
in the mirage, to eventually fire a bullet into the
heart of the water-stealing guide as Lawrence stands,
slackjawed.  We, America, appear to be welcoming
our own demise, to bow to "political correctness".

121 These generic ballot numbers are not only highs "for the cycle," they are all-time highs for Republicans.  Gallup had the Democrats up a couple at this point in 1994 . . . and Rasmussen announced it was a record in the 12 years they've been doing it.

Democrats have almost always had an advantage in the generic ballot and in self-description.  It traces back to FDR's great coalition which controlled the country from 1933 - 1953, as the pendulum of American politics swung away from Republicans who had dominated since Lincoln.  We are witnessing the beginning of the inevitable swing back to the GOP.

The true worth of the Tea Party movement is that it will exercise restraint on the GOP's inherent tendency to revert to the old ways when power is secure, putting principles aside for practical pork-barreling.  Reformers will have new voice, and may not be as easily dismissed as in the past.

But it will be a daunting task to dismantle the welfare state the Democrats were able to construct over the last 67.5 years.
