Racist Tea Bagger Militarizes Border With Mexico
— DrewM

60% national support
for the Arizona approach will do that.

Still, shameless, shameless pandering.

President Barack Obama will send 1,200 National Guard troops to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border, an administration official and an Arizona congresswoman said Tuesday, pre-empting Republican plans to try to force votes on such a deployment.

Obama will also request $500 million for border protection and law enforcement activities, they said.

The National Guard troops will work on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support, analysis and training, and support efforts blocking drug trafficking. The troops will temporarily supplement border patrol agents until Customs and Border Patrol can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border, the administration official said.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of a public announcement, disclosed the plans shortly after Obama met at the Capitol with Republican senators who pressed him on immigration issues including the question of sending Guard troops to the border.

Not to be outdone, John "Finish The Dang Fence" McCain had this reaction after hearing from Obama.

I welcome the President's plan but it doesn't go far enough. Clearly we can not rest until we have prevented every last Mexican from coming here illegally. The only way to do that is to nuke Mexico from space, just to be sure.

I may have made that quote up but who is to say?

My guess is this will be cover for the next round of "Let's pass amnesty while pretending to secure the border" but the fact that Obama has to even pretend to care shows how this issue is cutting right now.

As always, the devil will be in the details as far as what these new troops can and can't do but next time someone calls you a racist for wanting to secure the border you can say, "yep, just like Obama!".

22 This is a theological conundrum to be sure. However, like most paradoxes involving the One, the offending teaching disappears whenever a corresponding, opposite teaching appears depending on which teaching is the most politically expedient at that moment. So, all past statements to the contrary about the border and immigration cease to exist. for now.

A.  Assisting law enforcement in curtailing illegal crossings and cracking down on drug smuggling

B.  No round in the chamber while patrolling. Assist illegals with water, food, medical care, then provide them a ride into the nearest large town with directions given in Spanish as to where they can get legal and financial assistance.

95 I haven't read about Obama militarizing our border with Mexico, but I just want to say that I'm deeply concerned about protecting the rights of Hispanic and Latino minorities who are likely to be the people most seriously impacted by this move.

They should let the Mexican drug cartels run the borders. You tax them 50% on the take at their kiosks, 10% markup on the coyote rate for every illegal returned alive and let 'em break even on the those less successful.
Border closed.
Pure capitalism at work.

NO! If we annex them, we won't be allowed to drill there.

First of all, boot the boot person.

Second, I am sure I heard the word 'boy' in this article somewhere.

103 I'm not explicitly calling Democrats racist for militarizing our Southern border; I'm just implying it. I'm concerned.

Will they get ammunition this time?

"What are we supposed to use man, harsh language?"

That wasn't a rhetorical question.  They were not allowed ammunition last time. It was worse than the ROE in Afghanistan in which they can not chamber a round.  They didn't have any "rounds".

Christian Louboutin?

Let me just say this.  My hog, his mouth.  'Nuff said.

Just keeping it real.

107 Kyl and McCain had sent letters to the White House asking for 6000 troops, 3000 to Texas and 3000 to Arizona. I believe that is because 6000 were sent to part of the border around 2005 and it seriously improved the situation. The repubs want to solve the problem, Obama just wants to score political points, pretending that 1200 troops will do the job.

108 There's a hilarious quote from politico that Sen. Roberts made about how the crybaby in chief performed at his ladies' luncheon with the repub senators. ""The more he talked, the more he got upset," Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) said. “He needs to take a valium before he comes in and talks to Republicans and just calm down, and don’t take anything so seriously. If you disagree with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re attacking their motives — and he takes it that way and tends then to lecture and then gets upset.” Obama has no experience dealing with real responsibility and can't hack a little blowback. I'm beginning to think this inexperienced moron really believes all of the crap in his flowery speeches. He's stupefied that the entire country isn't lining up to adore him.

I met Obama during his IL Senate run.  He was a jerk.  And this was at an event where he was supposed to shake hands and be nice to people so those people would vote for him.

So he got elected to the US Senate by being a jerk.  He got elected POTUS by being a jerk.  And he is justifiably surprised that being a jerk is no longer working for him.

110 I love how the MFM always prefaces actions initiated by the executive branch as "Obama ordered/will/has agreed/is" this, that or the other. No, not the Obama Administration, or the White House or the department actually tasked with the responsibility. It's Obama himself, personally taking action, the savior of the world.

111 Troops come, troops go.  Troops get no ammo, this is for show.

Real fences are more permanent.  Laws requiring prison time for hiring illegal aliens, mandatory I-9 verification, and a motivated prosecutor work better still.  In an era of ten percent unemployment, we need to take care of our own first.

112 Guard towers every mile, or in line of sight, with overlaying fields of fire. Two snipers per tower with permission to shoot to kill all South to North traffic. Problem solved.

114 Let's see. 1200 troops. About half will have to be support ( command and control, transportation, medical, food services, communications, etc. ) That leaves 600. They can't be on duty more than about 12 hrs a day unless you want to degrade performance. So about 300 at a time. You have to give them some time off, say a day a week. That makes around 260 out there in the desert. The Arizona border region is about 250 miles wide and about 40 miles deep. Say 10,000 square miles. Maybe 38 square miles per guardsman. Somehow that seems to fall into the category of sending just enough people to get them killed. I'd rather Obama didn't do anything that endanger our troops in a political display.

116 For the most part, tavern wenches dressed in clothing that enhanced their natural assets. A plain white peasant style top was typically pressed tightly in strategic places by a figure shaping vest or lace up corset. More often than not she would wear a full, ankle length skirt because it would make it much more comfortable to work long shifts in.
