— DrewM It's one poll and way to early to start popping the champagne but a very good start for Angle.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Nevada, taken Wednesday night, shows Angle earning 50% support while Reid picks up 39% of the vote. Five percent (5%) like some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.A month ago, Angle led Reid 48% to 40% but ran poorest against the incumbent of the three GOP primary hopefuls as she has for months.
Reid will try to portray Angle, a Christian conservative who drew heavily on Tea Party support for her win, as unacceptable to the state. Still, the race for now continues to be about the incumbent, who earned 61% of the vote when he was reelected in 2004 but whose support in this election cycle against any Republican candidate has never risen above the low 40s.
There are still some kinks for Angle to work out.
As Jim Geraghty notes, right now it seems the only thing you can do on her website is donate. I think there might be some people who would like to know a little about her and where she stands before they pony up.
Democrats and the MFM, but I repeat myself, are going to go after her on the Scientology sponsored drug rehap program and anything else they can find.
Fortunately, there's plenty to go after Harry Reid about. The National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee is first up with their "Wrong Way Reid" site.

Can the Democrats really go after her for the Scientology supported drug rehab though? Won't that potentially piss off some of their biggest supporters? Idiotic brain dead hollywood liberals.
With the primary over my view is to now do what must be done. That means all her Republican opponents need to come out and support her. Anyone whining about their candidate not winning needs to be told to shut up. Basically demonstrate that you don't think the strategies of Crist and Spencer are the proper way to handle (potential) electoral defeat.

A little knowledge from Nevada:
1) Yes the Donks nominated baby Reid for governor. He polls right around "snowball in hell" against Sandoval. He's destroyed Clark County (home of Las Vegas, where he chairs the county commission), and this in combination with his father's baggage ruins him. Clark County is in such a mess that baby Reid may actually drag his father down, if you can believe it.
2) Angle is about as much a Scientologist as you are if you've watched a Travolta movie. This nasty piece of misinformation needs to be squashed. She's a lifelong and apparently quite devout Southern Baptist. Not my flavor of religion, but certainly not worshipping dead hack sci-fi writers either.

Yesterday I wrote a comment about how the MFM would immediately begin attacks on Sharon Angle and how she was “too far right” out of the “mainstream”, and how Republicans could have chosen a “better candidate” etc.
Well it wasnÂ’t long before the concern trolls were hitting AOS and it sure wasnÂ’t long before the AP lit into her.
Archy Cary has an excellent read of the AP article over at Big Journalism. Morons expect to see a lot more hit pieces like this as well as a huge influx of concern trolls and Eeyores at AOS. One thing that the author does not mention when he talks about the AP attack on the “flat tax” being “far right” is that the flat tax has been around since the days of Moses and in modern American politics was first recommended by Steve Forbs. It is hardly the brainchild of Paulbot nutjobs.
“Unexpectedly” our tax dollar supported News Agency, NPR attacks from almost the same angle even though it was written by a different author and does not reference the AP story:
You donÂ’t suppose the stories were coordinated from the DNC do you?
So now we have a poll showing perhaps all that noise about getting the "desired candidate" was just so much bullshit.
As I said yesterday, the proper reply to the concern trolls and Eeyores is “Only McCain can beat Hillary”.

She agreed that many children with "ADD", etc, are misdignosed because they act like children, having energy and stuff. And their wimpy parents and teachers aren't trained to handle children because ya know they are children. So it might be a good idea to bring them off the drugs so they could be.....children.

In the 50s and the early 60s there was a conspiracy theory about communists seeking to lulls us into surrender by fluoridating our drinking water. (Dr. Strangelove satirizes this idea.) That was probably a joke intended to smear her with something that happened before she was born.

The thing that really puffs my cheese about the bashing of the whole Scientology episode is the relevent facts. She was making a case regarding "educators" promoting the use of anti-depressants. Since these drugs can be dangerous to kids and school personel are hardly mental health professionals, I fail to see any problem with restricting their ability to even mention it.
I had a similar experience when my son was in 1st grade. His useless scrunt of a teacher (who liked to take naps on her couch during the school day) casually suggested in the hallway that we should consider putting the L'il Outlaw on Ritalin. Now, he never was much of a student but ADHD wasn't his problem. Due diligence required my wife and I to take to a professional who confirmed our opinion. Ms. Useless just wanted a drugged out drone instead of a normal 6 year old boy in her class.
I guess my point here is that these people don't have any place to make such a suggestion and the fact that Angle recognizes this (despite enlisting Scientologists to back her up) only serves to raise her esteem in my eyes.

What's the criteria for marginally competent though? Because for a Democrat and the nation in general are two completely different things. It will also depend on whether it is for Minority or Majority Leader. If its Majority expect the "we haven't been liberal enough!" idea so it will be someone on the further left of the Senate. If its Minority, expect it to be someone more in their "middle". And no matter what don't believe shit about what people claim he is like. I still remember Harry Reid being touted as a Moderate Pro-Life Democrat when he was chosen as Minority Leader.

This has always been my theory regarding Reid and ultimately what has hopefully screwed him this election. He's always been playing the moderate good almost conservative Democrat in Nevada to keep himself in. Now comes the chance for real power in the Senate and he takes it becoming Minority Leader. But he's still hidden behind being in the minority so not accomplishing much, so he's still hidden behind his cloak of bullshit. But then he becomes Majority Leader. He has the power he wants, and real recognition. Now everyone in Nevada can see because their guy is the Face of the Dems in the Senate. And you get the "Holy shit, that's the loon we've been electing!?" Power and prominence for a Dem Senator from a conservative state is a double edged sword. Reid is about to get stabbed by it.
Posted by: buzzion at June 10, 2010 09:19 AM (oVQFe)
Well, seems as good as any to roll out the new and improved Table for the Republicans to recapture the Senate. Ranked from most sure pick-up to least sure pick-up.
1. North Dakota. Hoevenor is so far ahead, even a live boy/dead girl in bed can't upset him. Last poll had him up 40..... yes, 40 points.
2. Arkansas. Blanche Lincoln wins the primary. Congratulations --- you now get to live another few months before losing by 15. Unions have walked away from Blanche and my gut is that in a few months, Bill Clinton will become a "special envoy" somewhere so he has an excuse not to stick his neck out in his home state.
3. Indiana. Dan Coats has to just be quite, stay on message and prevail.
4. Delaware. Assuming Mike Castle wins the primary (likely) he will start out ahead by about 9 points.
5. Illinois. Mark Kirk has had a rough week with some misrepresentations about his military service. Not the Dickie Blumenthal type. But, just in time, the Blago trial starts to remind everyone around that Democrats in Illinois are corrupt or incompentent or, in the case of Blago - both. And we can count on at least a few more Broadway Bank stories along the way.
6. Colorado. Both Republicans have the lead against both Democrats. Still waiting on the primary, but the generics look good.
7. Pennsylvania. Would be higher on the list of Spector had won. Sestak got a slight bump out of his win, but then polls settled down to show either Toomey up (within the MOE) or tied. Sestak has issue of job offer still lingering.
8. Nevada. Down this far just because no real polling data. Expect it to raise. Reid has 17 million dollars in his war campaign. Trouble is, he just spent 10 million and really didn't raise his numbers. Reid has been stuck in the low 40s the entire election cycle and just doesn't seem to get any traction. Bad news: Frank Luntz recently reviewed a Reid ad (him sitting at a kitchen table) which he rated "highly effective".
9. Washington. Most polls show Dino Rossi and Patty Murray either tied or with Rossi having a slight lead. Rossi got in late, so that may hinder his campaign.
10. California. Can you figure out California - if so, call me. I have no idea what the land of fruits and nuts will do.
11. Wisconsin. Rasmussen released some recent polling indicating that 2 of the 3 potential Republican challengers are within 2 to 5 points of Feingold. More importantly, Feingold's numbers have been stuck in the mid 40s most of the cycle. Not optimistic - but there is some vunerability. Really, Feingold should be in the low 50s, so at this point, you would have to say he is an underperforming incumbent in a year when it is not good to be an incumbent.
12. Connecticut. Blumenthal dipped and then seemed to recover. McMahon has cleared the Republican field and has a ton of money to spend, so can't write her off yet. But, if she goes into September down more than 10, have a hard time seeing how she gets the job done in November.

almost identical to my experience, mine was in 2nd grade when the teacher and all the admin. wanted to dope my kid. due diligence, testing, etc. also revealed he was "normal" -- just like i knew! (heck, i'm only his mother). admins. & teachers so upset with us that we didn't drug our kid who just is different, thinks outside the box, etc. Not long after that took all our kids out of public school and into home school. all this about 8-10 yrs. ago.
yeah, we're "rad" that way. when they were high school age and old enough to consistenly think for themselves, they went back into public school. This particular son today is a talented, sought-after musician and this past weekend graduated from h.s. w/honors -- dope-free. not always an easy road, but he made it this far.
i do not dispute that certain drugs are appropriate for certain children -- just not needed in the case of this particular child.

Ours are almost identical.
FLIP TO GOP-
I have ND,IN,AR, and DE all in the same level due to the crushing poll numbers. Mike Castle recurringly polls light years ahead of Coons (don't tell that to RedState members though, they want to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and put in a totally unknown city council conservative in bumblefuck with no $$ to stay PURE).
Then I have Illinois, Pennsylvania and Colorado roughly equal- Republicans are polling well in all three, with Republicans on top in polling in both the gov race and US Senate in the first two- always a good sign to see both top-of-the-ticket categories going red.
I then have Nevada just because of Angle's lack of money v the Reid war machine, and some of her "fringe" views (that upon exposure to light turn out to be not so kooky). Still give her the slight advantage.
Then right behind NV is California, where Boxer's approval ratings are an abysmal 37% according to Dem PPP, and where she has failed to crack the mid-40s against any of the 3 GOP primary candidates as late as last week. I give the Republican a 50/50 shot here now.
Washington and Wisconsin will both come down to GOTV and $$$, Rossi helps a ton over in Washington though. Maybe 3rd times the charm for him.
FLIPPING TO DEM
THIS is where I am worried. We don't knock out Reid, that sucks, but we don't want to work backwards.
FLORIDA- Crist's numbers scare me- his approval rating is stubbornly high, and that has crossed over for him to the race, where he has polled to be the favorite. When Meeks is forced out, Crists numbers will explode higher, I fear.
OHIO- Fisher has held Portman at best to a tie since the primary-turnout from tea party anger and for the governors race could tilt it in Portman's favor but in a deadlock run I give Fisher the advantage here.
So I see it US SENATE- R-48 I-3 D-49, or basically R48 D 52

There are entire subdivisions of houses here unoccupied/bank owned. I know things are tough all over, but we've been god damned crushed and he didn't do jack shit to help because he was too busy force feeding the country a health care boondoggle that no one wanted (by the way, Nevada supports repealing it 58-41, independents 61-37).
I've heard a lot of the old cowboy natives here tell me they haven't taken too kindly to the way Reid has been beating up on women, first Lowden and now Angle. Maybe not a huge factor, but not totally insignificant.

74 I grew up where the water was naturally fluoridated and my teeth are rocks.
This is very true. I can bite metal with my floridated teeth, and my wife has to get a crown every 2 years on a different tooth b/c hers crack for no reason.
She grew up with clean, unflouridatred mountain water.
Fluoride is great for teeth, and I'll not believe otherwise until someone explains to be how calcium based hydroxylapatite is more durable than fluorapatite.
Better fucking living through chemistry, bitches.

She doesn't have to attack a religion, no matter how kooky it is (not any worse than Mormonism) to get support. She just has to say she believes in Jesus. If she badmouths her friends, she looks like an insecure bitch.

bigred: thanks for the update. I still think Wisconsin is really going to be a race about Feingold/the state of affairs. His numbers peak around 46%. Not bad, but not really where he needs to be. And, I wonder if the polls may be overincluding the college vote that turned out huge for Obama. Overestimate that by 2-3% and it puts Feingold in really bad shape.
To wit: If the pollsters think 11% of the vote will be the under 25 crowd, then put of a sampe of 1000, 110 will be of that demographic. And of that demographic, Feingold is probably polling around 60% (lets say 66-44 are the actual numbers). But, if it turns out to only be 9%, then its a vote total of 60-40. Which translates roughly to another 1 percent drop for Feingold. And it also depends on which group is underrepresented, which is more likely White Males. Decrease Feingold another pt. Now he is 44% - which is near fatal for an incumbent.

I'm inclined to believe it based on the 2008 election results.

Does Reid start beating his wife at any time during this commercial?

(not any worse than Mormonism)
Tattoo, I don't care much for mormonism, but to say that Scientology isn't any worse is flatly false.
I don't recall mormons killing people (recently) in some sort of brutal "treatment" hotel, nor do I remember them taking ALL of their people's money (just 10% GROSS, not net!). Their mythos are both demonstrably false, but only one has DC-3's flying through space.
Scientologists are fucked up, crazy, malicious people.
Mormons are just too polite and gullible.

"a) Harry Reid wins and Charlie Crist loses or b) Harry Reid loses and Charlie Crist wins. Which do you choose? "
Reid loses. Crist would have no seniority. (Although I hate that orange colored slime.)
