— DrewM Hey, did you hear there's a Senate race in Delaware? Kind of snuck up on us, eh?
Democrat Chris Coons holds a double-digit lead over Republican hopeful Christine OÂ’Donnell in the first Rasmussen Reports post-primary survey of the U.S. Senate race in Delaware.Coons earns 53% of the vote to OÂ’DonnellÂ’s 42%, with leaners included. One percent (1%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.
The Delaware race is now viewed as Solid Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings.
Despite all the shouting, I think we need to give this race a week or so to settle in before we know much. O'Donnell is clearly getting a fundrasing boost coming out of the primary and we'll have to see if she can take advantage of that against Harry Reid's 'pet'.

Not really.
PPP had Coons up by 16 over the weekend but two things...
1-that was pre-primary
2-it was another polling company
Given the change in circumstances and different organizations, I don't think you can make that leap.
Also, Rassmussen did a hypothetical Coons-O'Donnell run about two weeks and it had him up by the same 11 points.

Polls, polls, polls. I agree, it is too early to put much stock in any of the polls for States that just held the primaries, particularly in one in which so much in-party vitriol was spewed.
Give it a few weeks to settle out. I also predict that as we get closer to the election the yellow cockroaches will come out of the woodwork and the races will tighten.
The key to the election is turnout. The Republicans MUST keep up the enthusiasm to get people down to the polls.

Posted by: Jeff at September 16, 2010 07:25 AM (A3tpD)
Yes, but that was mostly before the GOP cannibalism and mudslinging really started. I think if Ras had polled a couple of days before the primary like PPP had, it would probably show the same thing - that O'Donnel took a hit with all of the attacks and negative coverage. Likewise, if PPP did a poll today, I think it would show momentum for O'Donnel after her upset.
Of course, we'll just have to wait and see if this is momentum or not.
Posted by: JC at September 16, 2010 07:25 AM (pvRt/)
Her trail is shorter than Hoffman in Oregon, DioGuardi in New York, and as someone else already mentioned, McMahon just two months ago.
It WILL be an uphill battle because she has been defined so negatively in the primary. But not impossible.
Heres NOT how to win back the other 20% of the angry Castle Republicans- constantly insulting them for their choice. You do need them now for the general. They will fall in line by ending the nastiness first and then just running her campaign as the conservative but also the outsider- per gallup if given a choice between outsider republican, elected republican, elected democrat, or outsider democrat, in 2010 Voters overwhelmingly chose the outsider republican at 45% of the total.

Dear England:
The last time your Prime Minister was here, I was criticized for the gifts I gave him. In addition, my presents to the Queen were also blasted. Now, personally, I can not think of anything better to get than an IPod loaded with all of my speeches. I find it stimulating. I also hear that Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann masterbate to those speeches on an hourly basis. However, I can understand why some shallow, hate filled inviduals who, to be honest with you, treat me like a dog, would think these were insufficient. I would like to make it up to you.
I, therefore, and deeding back to you, one of the original colonies, Delaware. Its main industry appears to be toll roads. I have no idea, I can't possibly be expected to know what is going on in each of the 57 states, most of whom, quite frankly, I think don't like me right now. But, none the less, here she is. Dear 'Mother' England,
Before you act upon the aforementioned offer, I suggest that you consult the ghost of Lord Cornwallis, who had to surround and overwhelm the Delaware Continentals before they would surrender at Camden S.C. His colleagues might concur, citing examples at the Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Trenton ad Princeton. The ghost of one Robert E. Lee might have a word about the 'crazy' Delaware volunteers that he encountered several times, particularly at an obscure crossroads town of Gettysburg.
Sincerely,
Blue Hen

The best way for O'Donnell to win is to discourage her base by painting Coons as a radical loon.
Unfortunatly thats also the best way for Coons to win the election.
Thank s Karl...

That was my occupation at that time. If there was any issue with that, you should take it up with the hundreds of people who also work out of their home."

This is where John Cornyn can really earn some goodwill with the Tea Party crowd.
He gave the press release saying he supported her he can also allow her access to the NRSC's resources as well (not just money).. Maybe an adviser on legal issues. Advice on organizing on a larger basis. Records of how many republicans voted in past years and phone numbers.
She's on their team now. She made the cut. He needs to make the best of the situation.

Drew - an interesting theme has emerged in your moth to flame approach to the O'Donnell primary win, a win which speaks volumes of the tea party and voter dynamic that is surfacing across the nation.
Yet, despite the tea party influence and its historic presence, you continue to unload scatter shot at the non-pro RINO faction by attempting to laugh up your sleeve at O'Donnell, as you portray yourself as the sole purveyor of logical opinion, writing from The Most Venerable Order of Drew House. While you may think of yourself as the noble, don't forget that Ace owns the land . . . Noblesse oblige.
This will save you a lot of embarassment and backtracking on a conservative site . . . because when the conservatives win . . . there's no way you'll be able to reverse engineer your drivel into a logical conclusion.
Ponder nobel Drew:
On Janaury 10, 2010, the Boston Globe, et al had Martha Coakley up by 15 points over Scott Brown . . . in a special election to complete Ed Kennedy's term, in a seat Mr. Kennedy he held for 47 years in a Royal Blue State called Massachusetts.
Perhaps you could remind the faithful of the Brown race? Or does the moth want to continue to talk about the support O'Donnell must be getting from Rush and Sean?

Bingo.
If Castle had "played to win the game" then he and thus the party WOULD HAVE won the frigging game. Standing on the sidelines playing grab-ass and proving that you breathe does not advance the ball.
You now have the umpteenth string player running the ball. Why? Because she suited up and played.

Personally, I think it would've been neat if she'd left her original donation goal of $50,000 standing on the site.
While it is daunting for the opposition to see her raise (and meet) goal after endless goal, what do you think the "optics" of seeing a realistic, responsible goal get exceeded by 2000%?
Which scenario portrays a groundswell of overwhelming support better? Honest question.

This is actually an interesting question. Will she try to win or simply mail it in presuming a loss and subsequently loot the campaign funds ensuring a phat private retirement fund.
Her past record of fiscal campaign responsibility seems kinda sketchy.
If she really is a corrupt little peanut who is just in it for the money, why on earth wouldn't she try to make it to the Senate? For someone like that, the Senate is practically Mecca.

setting: vet's waiting room.
camera perspective: Obviously a dog's eye view.
Narration: man's voice, which we gradually realize is that of the dog, named Chris.
1. Dog (a kick-me-type little dog) is led into the exam room, and looks up into the face of the vet, whom we recognize as Harry Reid.
Reid: now aren't you a cute li'l fella? Of course to be of any use, you have to be altered to fit in.
2. The implications of this become apparant, as the scene cuts back to the waiting room, where everyone looks up at the sound of a long, anguished howl.
3. We realize that one of the people in the waiting room is Christine, with a labrador.
COD: I realize that such treatment just isn't right; let's leave.
Cut to: COD and the dog happily leaving.

BH - It would be an excellent commercial indeed. The whole thing could be in the style of those Beggin' Strips commercials, complete with the dog-nose POV.
Which ending to use, though?
1) Vet looks into the camera, "Are you ready?" Brandishes a set of tiny scissors as screeching violins suddenly fill the audio.
2) Halfway through the commercial, you start to see spittle and foam coming from the dog-nose. Vet looks sympathetically at the camera, offers some sort of reassuring platitude, and solemnly fills a syringe. Blur, fade to black.

< Of course, the tea party nexus doesn't exist and of course the issue of momentum against establishment doesn't exist. The take away genius of smart, is that polls don't really matter . . . and thus, for you to post here, in the land of Ace, a poll of inconsequence against the broader story of voter insolence against the establishment in, albeit a DE primary, then you are engaged in frivolity in your moth to flame theme of ha, ha O'Donnell.
You know exactly what you are doing, you are as transparent as cellophane.
Now go on and write your next story on how O'Donnell's money is inorganic vs. the "organic" money that could have been secured by Castle . . . if only Castle had won.
