Rasmussen: Coons Up By 11 In Delaware
— DrewM

Hey, did you hear there's a Senate race in Delaware? Kind of snuck up on us, eh?

Democrat Chris Coons holds a double-digit lead over Republican hopeful Christine OÂ’Donnell in the first Rasmussen Reports post-primary survey of the U.S. Senate race in Delaware.

Coons earns 53% of the vote to OÂ’DonnellÂ’s 42%, with leaners included. One percent (1%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

The Delaware race is now viewed as Solid Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings.

Despite all the shouting, I think we need to give this race a week or so to settle in before we know much. O'Donnell is clearly getting a fundrasing boost coming out of the primary and we'll have to see if she can take advantage of that against Harry Reid's 'pet'.

First?

Anyway, no matter what you think of O'Donnell, she must crush Chris Coons the Commiecrat. (Lots of alliteration).

5 I think the first poll includes a lot of Castle supporters in the denial stage who said "Coons" in frustration.  They'll come back after they lick their wounds.

13 O'Donnel is leading among unaffiliated voters. She only gets 71% of republicans compared to Coons who gets 84% of democrats. I think that as things cool down and castle voters eventually get behind O'Donnel this race will be in single digits - probably some time next week.

If Castle endorses O'donnel, that deficit would probably be cut in half.

Not really.

PPP had Coons up by 16 over the weekend but two things...

1-that was pre-primary

2-it was another polling company

Given the change in circumstances and different organizations, I don't think you can make that leap.

Also, Rassmussen did a hypothetical Coons-O'Donnell run about two weeks and it had him up by the same 11 points.

26 Delaware is at worst likely Democrat now- jumping it all the way over to solid is just lunacy. Her trail is shorter than Hoffman in Oregon, DioGuardi in New York, and as someone else already mentioned, McMahon just two months ago. It WILL be an uphill battle because she has been defined so negatively in the primary. But not impossible. Heres NOT how to win back the other 20% of the angry Castle Republicans- constantly insulting them for their choice. You do need them now for the general. They will fall in line by ending the nastiness first and then just running her campaign as the conservative but also the outsider- per gallup if given a choice between outsider republican, elected republican, elected democrat, or outsider democrat, in 2010 Voters overwhelmingly chose the outsider republican at 45% of the total.

Now, I was on the Castle-is-electable side of the argument, but I also believe stopping the climate-fascists has to be very nearly top priority.  So I'm not at all unhappy to see that carbon taxation has become a meathook on which candidates can be eviscerated.

42 I think we need to give this race a week or so to settle in before we know much.

Polls, polls, polls. I agree, it is too early to put much stock in any of the polls for States that just held the primaries, particularly in one in which so much in-party vitriol was spewed.

Give it a few weeks to settle out. I also predict that as we get closer to the election the yellow cockroaches will come out of the woodwork and the races will tighten.

The key to the election is turnout. The Republicans MUST keep up the enthusiasm to get people down to the polls.

54 Also, Rasmussen did a hypothetical Coons-O'Donnell run about two weeks and it had him up by the same 11 points.

Yes, but that was mostly before the GOP cannibalism and mudslinging really started. I think if Ras had polled a couple of days before the primary like PPP had, it would probably show the same thing - that O'Donnel took a hit with all of the attacks and negative coverage. Likewise, if PPP did a poll today, I think it would show momentum for O'Donnel after her upset.

Of course, we'll just have to wait and see if this is momentum or not.

67 I keep seeing this anti-masturbation thing being thrown at her by the MFM. So, I looked it up and Wikipedia says she's a Roman Catholic. Are they not aware that Catholics are supposed to be down on masturbation? That's actually a part of their doctrine on sexuality. So, that's not exactly an obscure view in the RCC. Are we looking to make all Catholics into freaky weirdos now? Unless she's suggested somewhere that it should be outlawed, I really don't see the problem here.

Dear 'Mother' England,

Before you act upon the aforementioned offer, I suggest that you consult the ghost of Lord Cornwallis, who had to surround and overwhelm the Delaware Continentals before they would surrender at Camden S.C. His colleagues might concur, citing examples at the Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Trenton ad Princeton. The ghost of one Robert E. Lee might have a word about the 'crazy' Delaware volunteers that he encountered several times, particularly at an obscure crossroads town of Gettysburg.

I disagree.  He thinks he got the shaft and he is angry about it.  He is also a professional politician who knows the "rules" for this sort of thing.

I would not read anything into the Delaware GOP website-except that the Delaware GOP is every bit as competent and on-the-ball as we have learned to expect.

93 Don't worry, another poll will come out tomorrow showing Coons at 49.9963% and O'Donnell at 12.0781%. Christine's fans will point to this as an example of "momentum."

The day after, a poll will appear showing Coons at 50.823% and O'Donnell with 11.034%, and the Castle groupies will say "see, we told you so!"

The Three Stages of Grief are 1) look at polls; 2) believe polls; and 3) live by polls.

Hopefully they've got a good spending plan put together sometime soon.

This is actually an interesting question.  Will she try to win or simply mail it in presuming a loss and subsequently loot the campaign funds ensuring a phat private retirement fund.

Her past record of fiscal campaign responsibility seems kinda sketchy

But if she wins she would have a guaranteed 4 year job with high pay and benefits PLUS whatever campaign cash she didn't spend PLUS near guaranteed paid Fox News talking head contract if she decided not to run for re-election at the end of her term PLUS paid speaking engagements PLUS whatever lobbying firms are willing to pay for her influence.

Go, Christine, go! I love ya.

123 From Belmont Club comments: I copied this from another sites comments. I think its very interesting on the spin if this is all true. O.k. fab back up …let me answer your BS assertions (did you copy/paste them from RINO Castle’s slam site?) one at a time. I personally know Christine. One of my good friends helped run her campaign in 08 and I know the truth on EVERY one of those allegations. 1. Re: ISI. She worked for a religious organization and was demoted not because of her job performance but because the supervisors in this ultra religious organization misinterpret their Bible’s and the book of Ephesians where it says that women should submit to men. And she was demoted to have a MAN put in charge of her. The demotion was illegal and she was completely right to call them out on it. She dismissed the lawsuit about 3yrs ago, NOT because it didn’t have merit but she was prepping to run against Biden and didn’t have the time/finances to pursue it. Bottom line was, she was wronged. She had every right to sue them and ISI is lucky that she decided it was not in her best interest to seek a judgment against them. 2. Re: her college career. She DID graduate from Farleigh Dickinson University. She took the courses and walked at graduation. She did not receive the OFFICIAL diploma due to outstanding tuition. It took nearly a decade for her to pay off her college loans and by that time, they made her retake a class to update her degree. (The same thing happened to me. It is very common now a days for colleges to say certain credits have expired, even though technically you got the degree and have worked in the field for years). Unlike others in this country who defaulted on their student loans–she DID pay them herself. 3. As to pursuing a Master’s at Princeton. You are referring to a quote from her deposition in the original ISI lawsuit. She WAS looking into pursuing her masters degree and the question from the legal council was regarding her current work/education. That was her plans after the demotion, then subsequent firing when she brought forth the lawsuit. She did not, however, go forward with it. 4. Re: her home foreclosure. That is a GROSS lie. She SOLD the house in question to help pay for her 08 campaign. She received a letter with a lien against the house more than a year later when it was owned by someone else. It was verified as a computer error and Christine put the letter on her website weeks ago to counter that misrepresentation. As to the IRS, Christine, her family and at least one of her campaign staffers from her 08 bid were audited by the IRS after she ran against Biden. Let’s talk about the statistical improbability for all of those people to be suddenly audited if it hadn’t been that they were all involved in trying to defeat Biden. The IRS found through the audit that she should have owed more in 2004 (?–might have been 05) and I have heard from MANY people that if the IRS audits you, they will ALWAYS find something/somewhere where you should have paid them more. She paid that judgment and posted the IRS clearance letter on her site. 5. Re: the Tea party paying her rent. Again you are distorting facts. Please take the libtard cotton out of your ears and listen up. Christine is NOT rich. She is a single, every day working woman who sold her house in the last campaign and has used every penny she could muster to fight in Delaware politics. She now lives in a small townhouse and because she couldn’t afford an official campaign headquarters–it was run out of rooms from her house. Because of staffers taking up half her living residence, it was determined she could use part of the tea party money as “rent” to her for space in her home for the headquarters. MANY people across this country use part of their house as a business office. (I work as a cardiac consultant from my home and I write off my home office space on my taxes) It is perfectly legal and was the best use of campaign dollars as opposed to her paying a fortune to rent space (which as the campaign has now grown, she will have to do) Fab, you do nothing but regurgitate the same libtard/RINO bogus allegations that have already been proven false. Your pursuit of sounding intelligent and superior is one big epic fail

This is where John Cornyn can really earn some goodwill with the Tea Party crowd.

He gave the press release saying he supported her he can also allow her access to the NRSC's resources as well (not just money)..  Maybe an adviser on legal issues.  Advice on organizing on a larger basis.  Records of how many republicans voted in past years and phone numbers.

Drew - an interesting theme has emerged in your moth to flame approach to the O'Donnell primary win, a win which speaks volumes of the tea party and voter dynamic that is surfacing across the nation.

Yet, despite the tea party influence and its historic presence, you continue to unload scatter shot at the non-pro RINO faction by attempting to laugh up your sleeve at O'Donnell, as you portray yourself as the sole purveyor of logical opinion, writing from The Most Venerable Order of Drew House.  While you may think of yourself as the noble, don't forget that Ace owns the land . . .  Noblesse oblige.

This will save you a lot of embarassment and backtracking on a conservative site . . . because when the conservatives win . . . there's no way you'll be able to reverse engineer your drivel into a logical conclusion.

Ponder nobel Drew:

On Janaury 10, 2010, the Boston Globe, et al had Martha Coakley up by 15 points over Scott Brown . . . in a special election to complete Ed Kennedy's term, in a seat Mr. Kennedy he held for 47 years in a Royal Blue State called Massachusetts.

Perhaps you could remind the faithful of the Brown race?  Or does the moth want to continue to talk about the support O'Donnell must be getting from Rush and Sean?

If you're too clueless to understand the differences between O'Donnell and Brown, Massachusetts and Delaware and a special election and a national mid-term election, there's not enough time in the day to get you up to speed.

I just read #133,

Thanks, I'm saving for debate info later.  CO may not be perfect, but she deserves support of other conservatives AND a fair fight.

Nice. It's a start. I heard that she had something like $80,000 on hand before the moneybomb. She's drawing cash and Sarah. Coons is drawing.. a trip to the vet courtesy of Harry Reid.

Personally, I think it would've been neat if she'd left her original donation goal of $50,000 standing on the site.

While it is daunting for the opposition to see her raise (and meet) goal after endless goal, what do you think the "optics" of seeing a realistic, responsible goal get exceeded by 2000%?

Which scenario portrays a groundswell of overwhelming support better?  Honest question.

It'll be a bitch and a half. But Tommy said it well. This makes the Dems fight. And the trends are running against them. Their resources are limited too.

This is actually an interesting question.  Will she try to win or simply mail it in presuming a loss and subsequently loot the campaign funds ensuring a phat private retirement fund.

Her past record of fiscal campaign responsibility seems kinda sketchy.

If she really is a corrupt little peanut who is just in it for the money, why on earth wouldn't she try to make it to the Senate?  For someone like that, the Senate is practically Mecca.

I'm sure that they know, but your point is apt. One hopes that the local GOP knows. Last time I checked, the state website did not list her as their candidate.

168 I believe that the full, unabridged quote from Jefferson was, "In these trying times of uncertainty which surround and evnvelop our newborn nation, we must seek to...wait, wait...is that John Jay in the back of the room?  Holy Shit!  We just might pull thise one off, morons!"

setting: vet's waiting room.

camera perspective: Obviously a dog's eye view.

Narration: man's voice, which we gradually realize is that of the dog, named Chris.

1. Dog (a kick-me-type little dog) is led into the exam room, and looks up into the face of the vet, whom we recognize as Harry Reid.

Reid: now aren't you a cute li'l fella? Of course to be of any use, you have to be altered to fit in.

2. The implications of this become apparant, as the scene cuts back to the waiting room, where everyone looks up at the sound of a long, anguished howl.

3. We realize that one of the people in the waiting room is Christine, with a labrador.

COD: I realize that such treatment just isn't right; let's leave.

Cut to: COD and the dog happily leaving.

BH - It would be an excellent commercial indeed.  The whole thing could be in the style of those Beggin' Strips commercials, complete with the dog-nose POV.

Which ending to use, though?

1)  Vet looks into the camera, "Are you ready?"  Brandishes a set of tiny scissors as screeching violins suddenly fill the audio.

2)  Halfway through the commercial, you start to see spittle and foam coming from the dog-nose.  Vet looks sympathetically at the camera, offers some sort of reassuring platitude, and solemnly fills a syringe.  Blur, fade to black.

< Of course, the tea party nexus doesn't exist and of course the issue of momentum against establishment doesn't exist.  The take away genius of smart, is that polls don't really matter . . . and thus, for you to post here, in the land of Ace, a poll of inconsequence against the broader story of voter insolence against the establishment in, albeit a DE primary, then you are engaged in frivolity in your moth to flame theme of ha, ha O'Donnell.

You know exactly what you are doing, you are as transparent as cellophane.

Now go on and write your next story on how O'Donnell's money is inorganic vs. the "organic" money that could have been secured by Castle . . . if only Castle had won.
