Rasmussen: Toomey Easily Ahead of Both Specter and Sestak
— Ace

It can happen...

If health care dies, Toomey might lose part of his lead -- as that is, again, giving him a lot of supporters.

Toomey leads Specter by 49%-40%, and he leads Sestak by 43%-35%. A month ago Toomey led Specter by 46%-42%, and led Sestak by 44%-38%.

...

From the pollster's analysis: "Just 41% of Pennsylvania voters favor the health care legislation currently before Congress while 57% are opposed. Those figures include 22% who Strongly Favor the legislation and 47% who are Strongly Opposed. Those who Strongly Oppose the health care plan overwhelmingly prefer Toomey over either Democrat. Those who Strongly Favor the plan prefer the Democrats."

2 I seem to remember Sestak being on Greta's show several months ago bragging about being one of the primary authors of the House version of Obamacare.  That interview will make a great Toomey ad, despite the takeover's ultimate failure.

but but but, I thought Obama was the next step on the evolutionary ladder, how can you say healthcare will fail?

6 Oh, that would be soo delicious.  Do you think the RNC will support him now?  (Remember how they supported Benedict Arlen in the primary?  I know he was the incumbent, but look at what he ended up doing).  I hope he can pull this off!  I have family still living in PA.

7 Toomey did an interview for WILK in Scranton yesterday. He spoke so well, and plainly, that I didn't even realize that he was a politician. W/O going to the Articulate bullshit, he really chose his words well. Most importantly, he didn't speak above, or down to, the callers. None of this Scottish law "not proven" Horseshit!

8 If health care dies, Toomey might lose part of his lead -- as that is, again, giving him a lot of supporters.

What the GOP needs to do is dwell on how craptacular the DNC was in attempting to ram down their idiotically written helathcare was.  How arrogant they were in insulting people who opposed it and bribing those who were for sale.

Just because the bill is/will be dead doesn't mean it still doesn't stink.

Hammer them.  The way the democrats acted with stealthcare, porkulus, TARP, etc. shows the can never be trusted again.

9 Pelosi can kill health Care but it won't save the Dems in November. They will still have to drag the corpse around.

Okay Arlen, bend over.  I'll be gentle, trust me.

KY? No, we don't need to resort to the KY.

Barbed?  No, no.  Just a lot of hype.

Okay, here goes. One time should just a bout do it...

12 Healthcare can go away if the GOP lets it- don't let it. Remind the voters that the Democrats want it and will pass it if they get the chance. However, even if it did- Obama will not fix the economy because he will not abandon his radical hatred of corporations. People are getting hammered today in the market because of this class warfare insanity on banks. The jobs will not be there in November and Obama and the Democrats will be judged like a NFL head coach who goes 0-16.

14 Great news.  I'm thinking of becoming a Dem for a week so I can vote against that piece of shit Specter twice.  I did get to respond to his constituent email on the glories of health care reform by calling him an "unprincipled, traitorous asshole", so I'll always have that.

Posted by: Tim at January 21, 2010 08:44 AM (xq7pr)

15 Specter is viewed as a confused old, Chemo fried fool in Pa. And ppl want change. Sissystack comes across as a condecending "deputy Joe"..."I'm so smart I wrote a bill that killed the Dems".

Posted by: hutch1200 at January 21, 2010 08:46 AM (ZtasG)

16 But isn't there a moderate we can support?  Only moddderaaates can win in states like, well, anywhere.  Scott Brown won because he's a moddderrrate, after all.

17 Arlen's new BFF's might not be able to save him in Nov, but they did hook him up with a scorching hot chicken.

18 I did get to respond to his constituent email on the glories of health care reform by calling him an "unprincipled, traitorous asshole", so I'll always have that.

I was in the audience that nearly boooed him off the stage at the Iowa Straw Poll when he was running for President back about 1995.  At the time I felt bad about the optics of it, even though he had it coming.  Now I feel bad that he wasn't clubbed like a baby seal instead.

19 I will be utterly insufferable if Toomey wins.

You can't discount the effect that the corruption scandal in Luzerne County (now coming to Lackawanna County!) will have up here as well.  People are utterly fed up with what's going on.

Seriously, the crap with the judges down in Luzerne County would get Grisham laughed out of the office by an editor.

20 even if ObamaCare fails Specter is toast ...  he voted for it and would vote for it again ...  make him wear it like a badge of honor ...

25 I will be mobilizing my PA bretheren for Toomey.

LET'S DO THIS.

PA is a red state outside of Philly and Pittsburgh.

Posted by: Good Lt. at January 21, 2010 08:58 AM (jH17H)

26 Health Care is only the leading symptom of the structural problems faced by the US. It's not THE problem.

To-day Scott ( a BIG no to Social Conservatism) Brown clearly stated that he favors HCR because the current system does not work very well. He opposes both some of the content and all of the process that is pasrt of the current failed process but he wants some reform and believes it is required to provide for the less fortunate. He is right.

If Republicans nominate and elect more guys like him they will be in Great Shape. If not ----- not. I think that Specter can be easily beaten in November but if that is all that the Republicans aspire to(winning elections), they will soon be on the outs again.

And the dance will continue while that spiraling doeey continues in the bowl.

Posted by: Dougf at January 21, 2010 08:58 AM (e8qs7)

27 I'm still a Dem registered (from Operation Chaos, don't hurt me!) here in PA - just so's I can vote AGAINST The Spectre twice. I don't think he's gonna lose the primary but still, it will be fun.

Posted by: BlackOrchid at January 21, 2010 08:59 AM (SB0V2)

28 That Luzerne/Lackawanna thing is your standard state pol corruption case - using campaign and gov't funds for personal fluffy prezzies, that sort of thing. Making campaign staff wash your car, etc. Normally par for the course here in PA - the Fumo trial started something here. Perhaps things are a-changin.

Posted by: BlackOrchid at January 21, 2010 09:01 AM (SB0V2)

29 what's his name after Rush?

Posted by: alexthechick at January

No, Sue Henry in the am. Does Toomey really piss you off that much? Sistek just turns my stomach.

BTW..how about the temp judge in Luzerne county, promoted from magistrate(?). Got thrown off the bench for beating the shit out of his wife while drunk, on their 1st anniversary.

Posted by: hutch1200 at January 21, 2010 09:02 AM (ZtasG)

30 I'm more ticked off about the announcement today of all the edu funds that the Philly School District has "misappropriated" - $17 mil went to false nails and mink coats for city edu admins, apparently.

Posted by: BlackOrchid at January 21, 2010 09:02 AM (SB0V2)

31 Would you care to elaborate for the morons that haven't been following that situation?

It's actually a bit more than the standard pol corruption case, at least on the judicial side.  Two judges got popped for corruption for (allegedly) receiving kick backs from a juvenile detention facility for every kid that was sent to the facility.  Over 4,000 juvenile cases were expunged because it was impossible to tell if the sentence was deserved or because the judges wanted the cash.  There was a plea deal worked out that fell through on those.

Another judge got removed from the bench because she's batshit insane.  No, seriously, she's actually nuts.  That removal is now up for review because the main judge who complained about her is one of the ones who got busted on the kickback scheme.

Another judge just pled guilty for what is in effect bribery.

Over the weekend, the judge the PA Supreme Court assigned to go down there to deal with the major criminal cases got arrested for choking his wife.

There are allegations of actual case fixing and it looks like there are a number of lawyers who are going to be going down for that.

On top of that, there's the usual kickbacks for government contracts going on.  All the stuff that was an open secret is now being prosecuted.

Basically, I watch the local news every night to see whose house burnt down, who is getting arrested today and the weather.

Heh!  This is a long ways back (the 80's), but I remember watching Bud Dwyer, the state treasurer commit suicide live on tv during a press conference when he was going to resign and admit he had embezeled state funds.  I watched him put the gun in his mouth and blow off the top of his head, quite a shock.

I remember our newspaper here, The Seattle Times running a story on how a funeral home in Philly was a polling place during an election.  Oh, and you guys had The Black Panthers there too (who were engaged in blatant voter intimidation, but Eric Holder didn't prosecute).

43 When I lived in the Yunk, went to a school for my polling place, had Dems all over the place, one guy tried to go in the booth with me! Also when I lived in the city, I had to be registered Dem, or I wouldn't show up on the rolls and be able to vote. My husband was too stubborn so registered R - he was NEVER EVER on the rolls. We'd have to go to see a judge, and she'd always deny him.

45 Some polling places in Philadelphia are in private HOMES! You have no idea how weird we are until you live here. I'm from South Philly, and have lived in Roxborough and Manayunk as well as Center City - all places with surprising numbers of conservatives. Roxy especially. Again, 100s of thousands of "votes" come out of west and north Philly - who would dare check them? no one. So the real votes in the city are kind of moot.

You're from South Philly?  So I guess that makes you one of them Eyetalian Americans (like Scott Baio--ha! ha! Just kidding.)  And yeah, who in their right mind is going to verify whether the voters in North and West Philly are real people.  Even if someone did, they would be pilloried for being "racist" and denying the black people their right to vote.  I'm sure it would be compared to metaphorically turning on the firehoses or something.

48 This is what irritates me about independents, even though I technically am one.  People should be tossing democrats out even if healthcare does go away as an issue.  The arrogance and the tyranny are still there and they will manifest themselves in bad law one way or the other.  Plus they need to be tossed as a matter of principle for the contempt and slander they have heaped on us.  Voters need to stay mad for at least three more years.

Pelosi, Reid, and Obama are still arrogant and evil people.  And no I do not consider them evil simply because they are democrats.

From Hotair:  (Can we say that Brown got a something started?)

Republican Roy Blunt now holdsRepublican  a six-point lead over Democrat Robin Carnahan in MissouriÂ’s race for the U.S. Senate.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds Blunt ahead of Carnahan 49% to 43%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

The latest numbers mark a shift in BluntÂ’s favor from last month when Carnahan had a narrow 46% to 44% edge over her Republican rival. The candidates, both members of prominent Missouri political families, were tied at 46% apiece in September. As it has for other Democrats throughout the nation, the health care issue appears to be creating challenges for Carnahan. Just 37% of Missouri voters
