Rasmussen: WV Senate Moved From "Solid Dem" to "Leans Dem"
— Ace

Manchin 48%, Raese 42%.

But isn't Manchin more popular than that?

Perhaps one explanation for this divide is that among those voters who Somewhat Approve of ManchinÂ’s performance, 64% Strongly Disapprove of President ObamaÂ’s performance.

Powerline is writing that "Toss Up" is the new "Leans Republican," so maybe "Leans Democrat" is the new "Toss Up," too.

Thanks to Herr Morgenholz, Jean, and DrewM.

4 one "Freak-o-nomics" indicator for WV is this:

fewer water heaters are showing up on the side of the road.

And those that are on the side of the road don't have bullet holes in them.

Seems people are recycling their heaters and/or repairing them and also saving their ammunition.

.

Bad sign for Democrats.

5 Raese is one strong debate away from replacing Sheets. the Anit ObamaFu is strong this election. There may be some multiplier effect going on here where people bounce back from their Obama love farther then they went in the first place.

An update on Washington in the Seattle Times today it seems all of the state democrats are in trouble in the suburbs. My loser senator Eric Omeg fell 3 points behind the republican in the primary and it's the same throughout King County suburbs.

Rick Larsen is way behind for US Congress in the 6th district with the republican getting more votes than he and his democrat primary challengers combined.

When King County Washington starts going red the Dems are dead.

The same goes for Brown, Collins and Snowe, who are savoring at the thought of heading a committee. The "good boys and girls" who just have to say NO for two months will get positions we will be fuming about, but eh.

Posted by: Rocks at August 30, 2010 10:36 AM (Q1lie)

49 by the way, from talking with people who are working with Kirk, Kirk is more of a liberal Republican whose votes are tied to his district than a RINO like Snowe or Castle, and he is privately very committed to repealing Obama care for undisclosed "personal reasons". I think he will be to the right of Snowe,Collins, and Castle, roughly equal or perhaps slightly further right than Brown. There is a key difference between the two- a liberal Republican will make RINOish votes, but knows where those who voted for them and who are counting on them want him/her to go. Brown pissed us off but he has been very helpful this election cycle in raising money for conservatives and moderates throughout the country. Snowe sits on her ass and waits for Obaby to call her.

Honestly, I could see them running with this meme and not even blush.  They are absolutely that shameless.

98 If anybody wants to donate for the senate, Ken Buck could use some help.  He is getting hammered by 2 or 3 PAC's as well a Bennett on tv, all of them going with the "extreme" angle, because ya know it is extreme to want to repeal the socialist obamacare and cut govt. spending.

Anyway, he hasn't hit the airwaves yet and needs more funding.

99 #98 He pledged not to and that his earlier vote was for his district. He has taken repeated heat for it, so if his feet are held to the fire, he won't. Now, in reality, hes a politician, so the above is wishful thinking. But...I think the offer of chairing a few committees despite being a total freshman would keep his liberal tendancies at bay for 3 months- theres nothing the Dems could offer him at that point (unlike just over a year ago where it looked safer for the RINOs to side with Obama) that is nearly as enticing. Not to mention it will take months for them to flip just one RINO during a session that lasts...3 months? Not enough time to get a sweet enough bribe his way. It took longer than that for Ocare to get finalized due to all the deals and kickbacks- and that was when the Dems were the majority. Look at it from the perspective of a non-loyal politician who wants relevance and power- standing firm gets him tons, siding with Obama gets him... a gold sticker.

In defense of BO he probably had to wear the helmet to give a good example to his kid and to get her to wear it so the left won't be going nuts they will just say he was being a good dad.

Now on the Bush tax cuts.. I can see him voting for extending them on all but the most wealthy.. for which I could forgive him.  I think we would have a hard time keeping all Repubs in line on that one anyway.. especially Brown and the Maine girls..

It may be a moot point, though.  I think the Dems have to try to address those taxes before the election.

111 "so maybe "Leans Democrat" is the new "Toss Up," too."

I'm not sure of Sabato's categories and how he rates the districts, but polls now coming out, Ace, do indicate your point, and maybe even moreso, if you go by RCP's charts.  In their House race they put IA3 and IN2 in the Leans Dem (25 total) list that Sabato does. One that Powerline didn't have in their post about Sabato was PA3, which is also in Leans Dem in RCP.

Polls that have come out, two that RCP lists, IN2 & IA3, and one they don't list yet (PA3) are as follows:
IN2 Walorski (R) -2
IA3 Zaun (R) +10
PA3 Kelly (R) +14

I'd like to see more polls come out in the Leans Dem category before really expecting the shift of where toss-up is, but it starting to look like Lean Dems might be the new Toss-Up or even Leans R in some cases.

115 Its pretty obvious what senate races we need to dump into: If you live on the WEST COAST- Washington California Nevada Colorado If you live in the midwest- Kirk If you live on the east coast, eh, start focusing on the congressional races. Johnson,Raese, and McMahon have oodles of cash. Toomey, Rubio, Boozeman, Hoeven, and the rest are swimming in cash and crushing their dems, and with the contested races moving further left, less Dem $ is going to be blown on "lost races" So find the closest state and send $. Do a phone bank. If we run the table and pickup an unheard of 13, a huge portion of those will be conservatives, the rest gets us to a majority.

A vote for Manchin is a vote for the Cap & Trade Bill is a vote to Kill the Coal Industry.  The miners in West by God understand this, that is why I predict an upset is this Senate race.  The Democrat Party, through the Cap & Trade Bill, have put a bullseye on the back of Coal in America.  They want to kill it.  West Virginia is a major coal producing state.  Ergo, voting for Dem's in the upcoming election is akin to voting to put most of the state out of work.
