Real Headline: "Albino Python On Cocaine Confronts Police"
— Ace

It confronted them by saying "It's my life! I'll do what I want!! You're just jealous!"

So here's something.

The snake, which was three metres long and was kept hungry so that it would be more aggressive, was allowed to roam the apartment to scare addicts into paying for their drugs, police said.

Animal services were called to capture the snake, which was tempted into captivity using a whole chicken and sent to a nearby zoo.

The reptile had been resting on 200 grams of pure cocaine, and a further five kilograms were found in the apartment.

In other silly news:
Burger-related jaw industries on the rise in Taiwan.

Patients have had difficulty opening their mouths after munching giant burgers, said Professor Hsu Ming-lung, of National Yang-Ming University.

Problems can arise when tucking into burgers higher than 8cm (3ins), Hsu was quoted as saying by the China Post.

Hamburger-related injuries are on the rise, he warned.

They must be on the rise. You can only go up from zero. That's like saying that cases of men shouting "I am warning you for the last time -- stop sucking my c*** or I'm calling the police" are on the rise. (Old George Carlin joke, an example of a sentence never spoken before in history.)

The Ultimate Pub Crawl:

A team of iron-livered and golden-hearted British boozers have been on a marathon pub crawl that just took them to their 15,000th pub.

The four pals have racked up 250,000 miles and guzzled 92,000 pints over the past 26 years, drinking a beer in every county in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England, an achievement recognized by Guinness World Recordsm, according to The Mirror .

And last week they tipped their glasses at their 15,000th pub – The Watermill – in Kidderminster in England.

"It has been really exciting. It has taken 26 years to get to here – 10,000 pubs was a big milestone and to get to 15,000 it has taken another 9 years. I am chuffed to bits," pub crawler Peter Hill told The Shuttle newspaper in Kidderminster.

He also said he plans to donate his liver to science heavy industry.

Molested by a Mallard.

A 27-year-old Pennsylvania woman is suing Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, alleging that she was sexual assaulted by a Disney employee dressed up as Donald Duck. She says the incident took place at Disney World in 2008 and that it caused her post-traumatic stress disorder. Her $50,000 lawsuit, which says Donald Duck grabbed her breast then "made gestures making a joke indicating he had done something wrong," contends negligence, battery, and infliction of emotional distress...

What Victim Claims The Philadelphia Daily News' William Bender reports, "Beyond the humiliation of being groped by an anthropomorphic duck in a sailor suit, Magolon claims that the incident caused 'severe physical injury,' a 'shock to her entire nervous system,' 'muscle contraction headaches,' 'acute anxiety,' 'nausea, cold sweats, insomnia, nightmares, flashbacks, digestive problems' and other conditions that are 'permanent in nature.' The episode also forced her to spend 'large sums of money for a ruined vacation' with her children and fiancé, according to the suit."

Guy's excuse for getting caught doing 103 mph? I'm dyslexic and can't read the speedometer.

I guess he thought he was only doing 301 mph.

This is heartbreaking: After telling us that Pluto was never really a planet, these damned scientists are now telling us triceratops wasn't a real dinosaur -- but just a young version of some other dinosaur.

It is one of the most recognisable dinosaurs, part of the Holy Trinity of childhood favourites alongside the brontosaurus and the mighty T-Rex.
But now scientists say that the fearsome three-horned triceratops may never have existed.

Instead new research has raised the possibility that the triceratops was just a young version of a different dinosaur known as a torosaurus.

John Scannella and Jack Horner at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana analysed skulls from dinosaurs that had been classified as triceratops and torosaurus.

Both animals had three horns but at different angles and the torosaurusÂ’ neck-frill was thinner, smoother and had two holes in it.

But the researchers say that the triceratops was just a young version of a torosaurus and its horns changed shape as the dinosaur aged.

When it reached maturity the holes developed in its neck-frill.

Eh, close enough.

And this isn't funny so much as horrifying. So horrifying I figured it was made up, but the article reads convincing. The term "Lithopedion" is on Wikipedia and stuff.

In a bizarre turn of events straight out of Mr. RipleyÂ’s personal files, comes this true story of a 92-year-old woman who delivered a child (albeit not a live baby) she had been carrying for over half a century! (Long pregnancies are one thing, but THAT is ridiculous!)

Huang Yijun, aged 92, is from southern China and she recently made news after delivering a baby known as a lithopedion, aka ‘Stone Baby’.

Huang Yijun told the press she didnÂ’t have the money to have her fetus removed after doctors told her it had died inside her in 1948.

So she simply did nothing at all about it.

Lithopedion is a very rare medical phenomenon, which occurs when a pregnancy fails and the fetus actually calcifies while still in the motherÂ’s body.

A professor is sent to Africa to live with a primitive tribe.

One day the wife of the tribe's chief gives birth to a white child. The tribe is shocked, and the chief pulls the professor aside and says, "Look here! You're the only white man we've ever seen and this woman gives birth to a white child. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened!"

The professor replied, "No, Chief. You're mistaken. What you have here is a natural occurrence, what we in the civilized world call an albino! Look at that field over there. All of the sheep are white except for one black one. Nature does this on occasion."

The chief was silent for a moment, then said, "Tell you what. You don't say anything more about that sheep and I won't say anything more about that white child."

Question: is it moral to donate to a charity if there's a big risk that the donations will be misused?

More than £300 million in foreign aid for victims of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake has been diverted by President Asif Zardari's government to other causes, officials have told The Daily Telegraph.

In Balakot, where 5,000 of the town's 25,000 people were killed in the earthquake, thousands of families were told their entire town would be rebuilt six miles away because it stood directly in the 'red zone' directly above the fault line.

But despite promises that the new town would be completed by last month, not a single new road has been completed nor a building construction begun on the site of "New Balakot". When the Telegraph visited the "new town" this week mechanical diggers stood rusting and security guards said there had been no work on the site for more than a year. Officials said contractors had not been paid since April and were still owed £22.5 million. Kamal Nawaz,30, of Gairlat Village, where families of 14 are living in tiny two room temporary huts, said:"they told us they could build three new Balakots but we're still waiting for one." A minute of an ERRA meeting to discuss the funding crisis earlier this month decided there would be "no further work on all on-going projects," while an internal letter dated August 6th explained that as a result of the "rationalization exercise" several offices would have to be closed and assets auctioned. Plans have also been made to cut its 3000 staff down to 800.

Officials said as all the earthquake reconstruction projects had been identified and budgeted for with funds donated by foreign governments and aid agencies, there was no justification for the cuts.

"I'm going to use that excuse when I finally get pulled over for speeding.  "Officer, I have dyslexia, I thought I was going 19!""

A police officer in a speed-trap watches amusedly as a car full of little old ladies crawls by at 20mph.  Realizing that, on the freeway, they really are somewhat of a safety hazard, he goes ahead and stops them.  He asks the old lady driving, "You do realize that you're doing 20 miles an hour on a freeway with a speed limit of 65, right?"

"No, officer," the old lady replies, "the sign I saw said 22..."

The officer ponders for a moment, then laughs.  "Ma'am, you're on Interstate 22...that wasn't a speed-limit sign, that was telling you which highway you're on."

As the driver looks away sheepishly, the officer casually glances into the backseat, and notices that all the other passengers are sitting very still, glassy-eyed, with their little bony knuckles clenched either to their purses, or the door handles, nearly comatose...

"What's wrong with your friends, ma'am?"  He asks.

"Oh, don't mind them," the driver responds.  "They've been like that ever since we got onto the 204 Loop..."

76 Funny thing about those $1 coins....if you get $250 at a time, you can charge them on a credit card and have them shipped to you for free, with the only restriction mentioned (and not necessarily enforced) being that you can't just directly redeposit them at a bank.

Cheaper than any cash advance. Earns frequent flier miles, or Discover cash-backs.

Bonus: you can get Andrew Jackson dollar coins -- the President who famously destroyed the Second Bank of the United States:

"By the early 1830s, President Jackson had come to thoroughly dislike the Second Bank of the United States because of its fraud and corruption. Jackson then had an investigation done on the Bank which he said established “beyond question that this great and powerful institution had been actively engaged in attempting to influence the elections of the public officers by means of its money.” Although its charter was bound to run out in 1836, Jackson wanted to "kill" the Second Bank of the United States even earlier. Jackson is considered primarily responsible for its demise, seeing it as an instrument of political corruption and a threat to American liberties."

You sort of get the feeling that he'd've come out and horsewhipped Bernanke by now....

Sen. Schumer: ‘Sour’ electorate reluctant to give Democrats credit for efforts

“Sour” voters reluctant to award Democrats for their legislative success are one of the reasons the party is trailing in the polls, according to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

But Senate leaders will keep trying to change that with a jobs-based September agenda, the Senate Democratic Conference vice chairman said Thursday.

Lord of the Rings: sheep take over The Shire on New Zealand film set

The New Zealand farmland that was transformed into Middle Earth for the Lord of the Rings film series has been recolonised by sheep, some of whom have set up home in the deserted hobbit holes.

The rolling green pastures that provided the backdrop for director Peter JacksonÂ’s trilogy were originally going to be converted into hobbit theme park, to attract tourists to the town of Matamata on the country's North Island.

But the plans were shelved, and the land is now home to 12,000 sheep and 250 cattle.

They are allowed to roam around the 17 hobbit holes left behind after the production team departed.

I know he has this thing about history, and he's willing to ramble on incessantly about any Dead Historic Person, but this is too (cohabitation) much to take when the nation is in the middle of a transformation that will turn it into another (country on another continent that is known for savagery and misadministration).

Yes. (Or the club will come up with its own printed 'house currency' for that sort of thing.)

We weren't given a choice over the $1 and later $2 coins as both the paper bills weren't removed from circulation. And it was/is annoying as crap.

If your government bans the paper bills, get your pants pockets reinforced; get a small change purse--not like a woman's one (unless you're into that) but a little 2"-square one, for example; and get ready for pizza [etc.] delivery guys to start getting pissy if you don't tip them.

Here in the paper bill days both because paper bills seem more like real money than coins and because when you got a delivery sometimes you'd only want the bills back (not to tip the deliveryman but to save time as he dug around for that ¢43 change on top of the e.g. $3 he owed you or because it was more of a hassle than ¢43 was worth) so you'd say "keep the small change" as a convenience for you and not as a tip.

But after the $1 coin made its appearance, deliverymen would look insulted if you wanted the 'big' coins back as change while letting them keep the small change. I think because a crap-load of people weren't taking the $1 coin as serious money and continued saying, "Keep the change and just give me the bills," and the deliverymen just began taking it for granted that they'd get to keep all the coin change and that was like a waiter's tip.

The interesting thing about the 1987 Loma Prieta quake was that the surface distribution of the seismic energy was so random-looking.  You might have several buildings in a row and have severe damage to one or two with little damage to the others.  It's not so much distance from the fault line as much as it is what geological formation is directly under where your house stands.

But the main thrust of the Pakistan article is that foreign donors earmarked billions of dollars of donations for specific earthquake reconstruction projects, and the government has simply taken the money to use elsewhere.  So sending money to Pakistan for flood relief in the current disaster is a total crapshoot, as far as any of that money helping actual flood victims goes.

120 Trust journalists to get a story completely fucking backwards.  In paleontology, the first name given a species holds precedence -- that's why all the brontosauruses became apatosauruses. Apatosaurus was named first.

Torosaurus is more recently described than Triceratops. So even if they are the same species, that species is called Triceratops. It's Torosaurus (which nobody has ever heard of or cared about) which will be retired if this theory holds up.
