— Ace Confirming, sort of, Gabe's own whip count:
n a press conference on Capitol Hill today, Rep. David Dreier (R., Calif.), ranking Republican on the House Rules Committee, said the word around the House is that Democrats are still about 10 votes away from securing the 216 they will need to pass changes to the health-care bill. Dreier added that that number might be moving in the wrong direction for Democrats.“You are hearing that people are peeling off,” he said.
Dreier also repeated the warnings about the Senate that many Congressional Republicans have been issuing to the other side of the aisle. He said that, assuming House Democratssucceed in passing a reconciliation measure along to the Senate, even marginal changes made there would require the measure to return to the House yet again.
“I would not be terribly sanguine about the prospect of the Senate effectively dealing with this,” Dreier said, adding that only once in history has a reconciliation measure passed through the Senate without a single amendment.

I was laid off last year. I couldn't afford COBRA, because even tho the govt was supposed to pay 65% of my costs it was still over $200 a month for me. Even if I could have afforded the $200, I still wouldn't have done it, because I thought it was just wrong for the govt to do that. I feel bad enough about UE benefits, but can somewhat justify it because, hell, I've paid taxes my entire life and never taken one freakin' penny from the govt. Still, it isn't easy for me to deal with.
Anyway, I said all that to say...I will NOT buy their fuckin' insurance & will not pay their damn fine, if this crap sandwich passes. Healthcare is NOT a right under our Constitution.

Logically speaking ( crazy I know) at some point, the focus has to shift from this thing. We all realize that when asked, all of these clowns will say that they're proud of it, and that they don't mind fending it, or that this is a campaign winner. Then again, one of my Senators keeps saying the same vague, "it's not everything that we wanted, but..."
At some point, they are preaching to the base that donates money. The loudest mouths are the ones not running for re-election this year (Obama) and the one in a safe seat (Pelosi). The rest are hiding behind boilerplate. They may get coverage from the media to create an artificial 'pivot', but I doubt that this will work if this stays alive longer. Unless Obama is so self-centered that he's willing to sacrifice the majority in the House. Given his track record, and the talk about Clinton post-1994, that sadly is very possible.

Gabe's right that the main costs of health care are not driven primarily by illegals, but by the same token, they are a substantial cost in unnecessary ER visits (which is itself a substantial cost to teh healthcare system). They are in fact a large disproportionate percentage of the "uninsured" and this bill uses them as silent justification for the entire abomination of Obamacare.
tarring people unjustly is a problem, but the complete insolvency of our nation is a worse prospect.

Of course, Garbiel. It is but a trifling pittance.
In Texas, where the state comptroller estimates illegal immigrants cost hospitals $1.3 billion in 2006, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is considering denying cancer care to such immigrants.
In California, a 2004 study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform put the state's annual cost at $1.4 billion.
The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 59% of the nation's illegal immigrants are uninsured, compared with 25% of legal immigrants and 14% of U.S. citizens. Illegal immigrants represent about 15% of the nation's 47 million uninsured people — and about 30% of the increase since 1980.

Illegals cost us next to nothing in health care. Ask Gabe. Just ask him. He has made up figures.
In a recent year in Colorado, the state's emergency Medicaid program paid an estimated $30 million in hospital and physician delivery costs for about 6,000 illegal immigrant mothers - average of $5,000 per baby. Those 6,000 births to illegal aliens represent 40% of the births paid for by Medicaid in Colorado.

"I am very concerned over this," Mr. Schaefer told Maryland Budget Secretary James C. "Chip" DiPaula Jr. during a Board of Public Works meeting.

That's just for emergency care. In one state. For one year.

You could dispel that by noting that Europeans who come in under the visa waiver program and then stay longer than 90 days, taking jobs that pay in cash or signing up for welfare, are just as illegal and detrimental as the "stereotypical" snuck-in-over-the-southern-border. There was a meatpacking plant in IA hiring illegal Ukranians, a trucking firm in WI hiring illegal Irish...
And overstaying student visas for decades is not limited to any range of skin tones or country of birth.

If they have to start all over again with a new bill then it has to get out of committee first. The only reason that happened last time was because that fucking horrible bitch that illustrious Senator from Maine, Olympia Snowe, cast the lone GOP vote to move it out of the Finance Committee. Assuming we can whip the traitorous whore into submission persuade her to play ball with her own team this time, a new bill could be bottled up there and killed. Easy to follow steps:
1. Reverse everything this Administration has enacted. "Deem" these reversals done if necessary.
2. The President will veto obviously, but don't sweat it. Just "deem" that there are a sufficient # of votes to override him.
3. Investigate and prosecute the former Congress.
4. Demand the Executive branch produce the TARP money paid back by the banks.
5. If the President fails to produce the money begin impeachment proceedings. I'm pretty sure that the theft of close to a trillion dollars is an impeachable offense.

In that clip, the people behind Obama didn't look particularly spellbound or thrilled to be there. In fact, when he made the above idiotic statement, it was a second or so before people started smiling and cheering. By making such a stupid ass statement, I can already see Unions going on strike next year (after Obamacare has passed), demanding their raises since companies will be saving 3000 percent in premiums. Epic Douchebag.
