Rep. Issa Still Pushing on Sestak Bribery/Corruption Charge
— Gabriel Malor

California Republican Darrell Issa posted this compilation of Sestak's charges and months of Gibbsy's refusals to answer yesterday:

It sounds a lot like a crime occurred and the Felon in Chief is getting away with it.

So why isn't every republican politician and the GOP and conservative media bearing down on this with the concerted intensity that the liberals did on "Plamegate," WMD, Niger SOTU speech, or any of the dozens of strawmen BS issues they tried to hang on Bush?

This is what pisses me off about republicans and the establishment GOP. They're fretting about Rand Paul while provable felonies go on in front of their eyes. Pathetic self-loathing imbeciles.

Correct on both scores.  It will also be correct when it becomes past tense. The only way this will ever be brought out into thew open and litigated will be if the Republicans take back everything and grow some balls.

The earliest that will occur is 2013 and by then it will be forgotten.

Of course it make a difference. Plus I'm curious if MTP has that kind of extraordinary cancellation rate. Just putting some numbers together: roughly 4900 shows, let's say an average of 2 guests/show, that's 9,800 guests.

And only three of the 9800 guests have canceled? That would be amazing.

Okay, I traced back the claim that Rand Paul is only the third person to cancel an appearance on MTP to HuffPo. It's a big deal over there.

Turns out an MTP producer is quoted saying Paul will be the third person to cancel an appearance at the last minute.

"Meet the Press" fell to its second-lowest ratings under David Gregory this past Sunday.

The NBC Sunday show averaged just 2.57 million total viewers; it was enough to win first place, but also just a hair over Gregory's lowest total ever (June 21, 2009, when he averaged 2.56 million total viewers).

Not freaking linking it - it's from a HuffPo piece.

On Rand Paul canceling Meet da Press...

The MSM has lost the ability to build a candidate with their overplay on Obama (folks see the bias)... but they can still destroy a candidate.

But the embellishment by the media to turn this into a huge Republican/Tea Party/Conservative scandal is obvious and it's disgusting. No need to parrot their propaganda.

Except anyone with an ounce of brainpower would know that the MFM would behave this way after appearing on MSNBC and giving a non-PC answer regarding the Civil Rights Act.  He could have dodged the completely irrelevant question, but instead gave the MFM an opening that they predictibly exploited.

It doesn't matter even a little if he had a valid argument or that the MFM is being dishonest.  When an individual Republican is involved in a scandal- real or fabricated- it will be presented by the MFM as a Republican scandal.  When a Dem is involved in a scandal, it's either downplayed or portrayed as a personal issue in no way at all connected to the party at large.  And there is nothing we can do about it.

If Paul can't figure out what the average conservative blog reader already takes for granted, then it's a problem of his own making not just for himself but the Republican party.

Do we really want to nominate people who would so easily allow themselves to be outwitted by the predictable dimwits in the MFM?

Magical thinking "We want federal service but we don't want to pay for it"

Please allow me to clear up your fuzzy thinking for you.

What we don't want is bloated government agencies creating rules (which carry the full weight of laws) without citizen oversight or accountability. We don't want agencies restricting our access to our own natural resources (see the restrictions on oil drilling, which has forced companies to drill farther out to sea, pushing the envelope of safety). We don't want a government that is so big that it encroaches on individual liberties (do you think that forcing a citizen to buy the government's health insurance under penalty of jail is Constiutional?).

Most of these duties are rightfully the responsibilty of local governments. Washington has become too big and is working actively against the wishes of the people.

Magical thinking my ass.

The crime has already been established as fact, we just know all the details yet.

And what are the odds that we will ever fully know all the details, or that a senior Obama administration official will face serious legal or political consequences?

I figure the odds are about the same as the chance that Kate Beckinsdale will show up at my cubicle here at work with a cooler full of beer in one hand, a winning lottery ticket in the other, and an insatible desire to do the nasty on my supervisor's desk.

Err. That would be a "series of gaffes."

(1) CRA mis-fire.
(2) NAFTA superhighway.
(3) Alex Jones.
(4) Last-minute cancellation on MTP.

I'm betting that having to face those four issues this weekend was not how he'd hoped to begin the general election campaign. And for Kentucky Republicans, each of those things was avoidable...if Rand had enough message discipline to avoid the CRA misfire, not be an Alex Jones groupie, not be a conspiracy-theorist NAFTA-phobe, and not to have a reason to dodge a previously-scheduled morning interview program.

And, SantaRosaStan, my clipped response to you is because your overwrought "screwed the Pooch" (why capitalize Pooch, BTW?) comment is about an OT comment of mine. Not even a post, but a flippant comment in an unrelated thread wherein I allowed myself to be goaded into talking about Rand Paul again. And you're all "Oooooh, you screwed the Pooch." 128 Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that Representative Issa, who is pretty clearly a very smart guy, although also not precisely objectively independent on this subject, is correct that there is at least a concern of this happening, and that the same ought to be formally investigated. Who is the aggrieved complainant? Congressman Sestak would seem to have something to complain about; but he is not complaining, and there does not appear to be any reason to expect he will ever complain. Senator Specter is not complaining; nor would it appear has anything to complain about, except informally to the effect that any such bribe was insufficient to be effective. The Obama administration is not complaining, as a matter of course in this exercise. In the context of the criminal process, if someone in the administration, even the President, was in fact seeking deprive someone of "honest services", who precisely was that someone? If anyone's left to complain, at least in theory that would be the good voters of Pennsylvania, or perhaps even the American taxpayer, who, under the terms of the concern being articulated by Representative Issa, would have cause to complain only if government property was at least a component in the alleged offer. This leads us to a self-evident point that, from the period when this happened, if it happened, it will be four years, or rather four years at least, between the time when it happened (if it happened) and when it even begins to be investigated by the authorities responsible for the criminal law process, the FBI and the Justice Department. So as a matter of practicality, the most Representative Issa could possibly expect from this initiative is an investigation by one or both chambers of Congress, acting separately or in concert. As matters stand, there is no apparent likelihood, and no reasonable theoretical framework, of that happening in current circumstances. It could happen following the 2010 midterm elections, if the Republican party were to win control over either chamber. But even then, any congressional investigation would require the cooperation of the members involved, for which there is no sign of such happening, since if Congressman Sestak were win the general election for the Senate he would no longer be subject to any House process, and if were to lose the general election for the Senate while not running for re-election in Congress -- which in fact describes his situation -- he also would no longer be subject to any process, and in either chamber. I would remind Mr. Malor that Representative Issa's authority does not extend past the House. All this suggests that Representative Issa is in fact aiming for such expressions of concern as these to have some effect on the 2010 U.S. Senate election, which, given he is not in fact a candidate in that election, makes this a partisan political effort. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it as such. However, I would not expect it to be treated as anything more than that, moreover would not expect the good voters of Pennsylvania to regard it as more than that, and lastly would not expect those voters to react in shock to the news, or even the possibility of the news, that politicians are capable of such things as Representative Issa is raising concerns over. All of the above is completely explained in my seminal text on Hibernian Legal Precedents and the Scottish Verdict, $49.95 available at all reputable bookstores and perhaps on the internet. I do undertake that, immediately following this message, and a short nap, I will proceed to make a concerted effort to determine whether I am in fact a member of any organized political party and act accordingly.
