Report: Obama Folds...Looks To Move Terror Trials Out Of NYC
— DrewM

Via Drudge.

And a top item on the Obama agenda goes down...

White House officials have told the Justice Department to consider other venues for the 9/11 terror trial that was to be held in lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned.

It's not a done deal yet and this clowns could double down on stupid but this isn't exactly how the day after the State of the Union was supposed to go.

If they are looking for suggestions, might I suggest this naval base we have in Cuba? I hear it's lovely there this time of year.

Seriously, what city is going to take this after NY says no and succeeds in standing up to Obama? They are going to have to move it out a regular federal court house and onto a military base or something.

Bold prediction: Everyone stays at Gitmo and no one is tried during Obama's term. When a sensible President is elected, it's back to military courts. Or they all die of old age before anyone really deals with it.

2 How about the speedy military trial and speedy execution that the Laws of Land Warfare say we are entitled to give these clowns.  Oh wait, that might violate the rights of these terrorist scum.  Can't have that, now can we?

6 To me, if these clowns are insisting on affording f'n terrorists the same rights as U.S. citizens, it doesn't much matter what state they're tried in. There must be a fundamental reversal of that doctrine, or it all remains insanity.

So with 59/60 Senators, a big majority in the House, the President, and the media, the lefties couldn't find a way to move the terrorists to the US for a trial. It is like they are trying to advance an extreme position most Americans find insane or something...

47 My vote is for Barrow, Alaska as the ideal place to hold KSM's trial--quiet, secluded, and cold.  What more can one ask?  I guarantee the trial won't lst for years in that venue!  Even the ACLU lawyers will be ready to plead this rat bastard out before September.

A military tribunal is the only acceptable option.  The American people do not want it in NY or anywhere else in America, and we do not want to pay for the terrorists left-winger attorneys.

Posted by: Pre Paid Sex Monster at January 28, 2010 04:46 PM (0fzsA)

49 Eric Holder was no doubt the genius behind the original plan, but Obama signed off on it without really thinking very deeply about what it would entail (just like the Gitmo-closing fiasco). I think Dr. K is right -- Bammer is backtracking now so he'll only have to take the hit once and then let the news-cycle move on to other things. If the trial takes place in NYC, that is a day-in-and-day-out disaster for Obama & Co. (not to mention the security risk and the colossal expense), and I think Rahm or David sat Bammer down and explained the facts of life to him. Having the trial in NYC wouldn't just have turned the 2010 elections into a bigger disaster for the Donks; it would have crippled the rest of his presidency. But then, Obama and his minions are not your run-of-the-mill pols. They are ideologues, true-believers and disciples one and all. Most have never had real jobs or had any public lives outside the Democratic hot-house. What we've been seeing over the course of the past year is a bunch of amateurs getting a brutal schooling in how the real world works, and the lessons are going to get harder and not easier as time wears on. Yet the White House and senior Democratic leadership presses blindly onward, convinced that they are right and the rest of us are wrong.

51 Obama will never, never say that HE ordered the trials to another place. he will send some lowlife Commie Czar to made the announcement. He cannot ever, ever by wrong you know! What person in the WH would want to do this?   OMG, I completely forget about Gibbs. He will most likely say somebody in Justice but he hasn't been told who yet.

Posted by: mystry at January 28, 2010 04:47 PM (kmgIE)

52 I think they were alarmed at the Community Board meeting downtown: a whole bunch of small business owners and residents of Chinatown showed up and spoke passionately at the public mike, saying the "ring of steel" that would be necessary would -- again -- tank their businesses. And they've ALREADY dealt with the September 11th attacks and their aftermath. This was just TOO MUCH.

Nadless Nanny Bloomberg, who'd been against the trial's being held in New York before he was for it, switched back to "against," the pusillanimous prick.

I think the Dims realized that they were heading for a public relations disaster (the only kind they actually worry about) if footage of angry Chinese people got on the airwaves objecting to their idiotic scheme.

Good for the Chinese. Ya gotta hand it to them: they take their capitalism seriously.

If Obama wanted to look really smart, he'd have the terrorist cases dismissed and transferred to military jurisdiction while accepting Eric Holder's resignation.  But Obama is the type to think an admission of error makes him look bad.  On the contrary, admitting a mistake and fixing it would make him look stronger, and, besides, it's Holder's error anyway, not his.  (It becomes his because he supports Holder.)

White House officials have told the Justice Department to consider other venues for the 9/11 terror trial that was to be held in lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned.

This is soooo confusing!  Now, I could have sworn the DoJ was completely independent when they decided to move the trials to NYC and to investigate prosecution of the CIA interrogators, because Obama told us NFW he could interfere without commiting a terrible ethical breach!  Now the WH is telling the DoJ to move the trials?

You know, it was so much simpler when we all knew the rules: the President was evil, full stop.  Now the President goes one way, then the other, but finally does the same as Bush, and then our betters tell us he is so infinitely more ethical!

Is he more ethical because he gets to the right answer slower?  That must be it...

Peaches, stompy boots?  Nah, just pissy today, since I love this country.

Doh, I think his numbers would approve with a quick, decisive move like the one I mentioned.  Another example:  He should have fired Janet Reno Napolitano a couple of times already for her witheringly stupid moments.  Napolitano is there for one thing, primarily, to say the right thing at the right time.  In both of these cases, he'd look better and poll better while at least tacitly admitting error.

If he continues to go full retard, we could end up with a Pezzydent less popular then Congress, journalists, or even... lawyers. This move is full retard too, because once he swore on a stack of Korans (heh) that KSM would go where Holder wanted, and Holder swore on that same stack that the NYC trial was going ahead come hell or boiling pudding, Barry was committed. Now, with this reversal, sane people see him as a slow learning fool, while insane people (i.e., the leftards) will never, ever forgive him for this. There won't be any trial completed at all, because it will become obvious that on Day One, KSM's lawyer will move to dismiss based on his client having been tortured, etc., and Obama will suddenly experience the sensation of an 8 inch long turd entering his underwear. KSM will immediately be yanked out of the site of any federal judge, and shipped back to Gitmo, and Obama will never try that trick again. Let's hope all the Gitmo detainees just die of old age in custody. Optimal outcome, really.

Just the corrupt political machine in Chicago, or is it more insideous, like the government in Beijing, with the tacit approval of corrupt US politicians, Democrats and Republicans alike, owned by China, also?

Once again, the stupid old American people let Obama down.

What if ....

McCain was the Hanoi candidate. Obama was the Beijing candidate. A win-win for the Communists whichever one got elected. China owns this country - real estate and greedy and unscrupulous businessmen and politicians, the latter of whom were paid handsomely for their betayal of this country

If God didn't mean for them to be sheared, He wouldn't have made them sheep.

188 " Or they all die of old age before anyone really deals with it."

Hey, it worked on Slobodan Milosovich.  Fukker died of old age while on trial in the Hague.

192 Peter King on Fox this morning, says that Bloomberg, Kelly, et al did a great disservice to the people of NYC,  because "they didn't open their mouths on this until a couple of days ago after seeing the results of the Massachusetts election."

Ka-boom!

193 I was watching the local news. The residents of lower of Manhattan had a public meeting about the trials and lets just say near riot wouldn't have much of an exaggeration. (I did wonder how many of these idiots voted for Obama.) I think Bloomberg was initially just playing nice with Obama but then the administration started talking about the bank tax and the Mayor's attitude about everything Obama changed.

194 Why not send them to Chcago? They're used to dealing with thugs. After all they sent one to the WH.

My money is on indefinite incarceration with no trials.  It has gone on so long that the vast public really doesn't care if these guys sit and rot.  It will get to the point that even the left won't care.  There will be the rote call maybe once a year about Guantanamo, but no real effort is going to be made to deal with these guys.

213 To me, if these clowns are insisting on affording f'n terrorists the same rights as U.S. citizens, it doesn't much matter what state they're tried in. There must be a fundamental reversal of that doctrine, or it all remains insanity.

215 How about the speedy military trial and speedy execution that the Laws of Land Warfare say we are entitled to give these clowns.  Oh wait, that might violate the rights of these terrorist scum.  Can't have that, now can we
