— DrewM Sorry, I meant, Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller
Rockefeller's bill, one of several recent congressional efforts to curb the EPA's authority to address climate change under the Clean Air Act, highlights the resistance the administration will face if it attempts to limit carbon dioxide through regulation. Obama and his top deputies have repeatedly said they would prefer for Congress to set mandatory, nationwide limits on greenhouse gas emissions, but the EPA is moving ahead with plans to do so if legislation fails to pass this year."Today, we took important action to safeguard jobs, the coal industry, and the entire economy as we move toward clean coal technology," Rockefeller said. "This legislation will issue a two-year suspension on EPA regulation of greenhouse gases from stationary sources--giving Congress the time it needs to address an issue as complicated and expansive as our energy future. Congress, not the EPA, must be the ideal decision-maker on such a challenging issue."
Republicans, too, have repeatedly tried to rein in the EPA's climate authority--Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) has introduced a resolution of disapproval that would overturn the agency's scientific finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare, and House Republicans introduced their own version of the resolution this week. But Rockefeller's effort is especially significant because it points to growing unease among Democrats over the prospect of the administration tackling climate change without explicit congressional approval.
Cap and Trade was never going to become law because there are way to many states that would have been bankrupted by it Death by EPA regulation was (and sort of still is) the real threat so it's nice to see push back not just from Republicans but Democrats as well. They'd never get this through the House but it won't be a problem should the Republicans get control there in November. Obama won't sign a stand alone bill stipping the EPA of this power but it'll get rolled into something that has to pass and be signed and Gaia worshipers will cry sweet, sweet tears.
Like health care, Cap and Trade is a wedge issue that Democrats have inflicted upon themselves. Their left wing base loves it but the grown ups known it's death and will fight it.
Added bonus...the House passed their Cap and Trade bill only to see the Senate walk run away from it. That's one of the factors that has created such ill will between the two houses that has held up health care.

I hate winding up on the same side of any issue with a traitor like rockefeller.
Just creeps me out.

Whatever one President doth giveth, another can taketh away.
I'd like to see someone put their foot down and decide to refute the EPA's notion that carbon dioxide. . .ie the air that every living animal exhales. . .is a pollutant.
This is the green-religionists equivalent of the "original sin". . .merely by being ALIVE every human being is destroying the environment.

No but only an idiot would be unable to see that the passage of Cap and Trade would put West Virginia back 19th century living standards.

It is The Precedent who is pushing these issues, and he's pushing them, specifically, because they are such wedge issues and cause as many problems within the Dem caucus and among Americans, in general. He does it because he wants to break EVERYTHING.
My guess is that he tries to move to shamnesty, next, though there will be a great deal of problems within the dems over this (as Shrillary lost her nomination because of her support of Spitzer's licenses for illegals at that primary debate). The Precedent likes the shamnesty, though, because he can cause tons of problems on the right, too, as McShame and Lady Lindsay and the other slimebags are happy to jump on that suicidal train with him. In fact, they are dying to commit amnesty suicide with The Precedent.
But, people should disabuse themselves of the notion that The Precedent cares about the dems. he doesn't. He just wants to cause as much damage as he can before he's tossed out - and he'll keep causing more and more damage until he's tossed out.

By the way, carbon isn't created de novo.
Any carbon that ends up in the atmosphere because of human combustion (or ordinary animal metabolism) has to come from the Earth's carbon pool.
If it ends up in the atmosphere, eventually it will get re-sequestered by ordinary (and in fact enhanced) vegetation growth on the planet as every living plant on the planet uses the carbon from the air to grow.
The Green nazis ought to be HAPPY if atmospheric CO2 levels increase since it likely means faster reforestation of the Earth's surface, greater crop yields, etc..

"This legislation will issue a two-year suspension on EPA regulation of greenhouse gases from stationary sources...
It's a start, but it sounds like it would still allow EPA regulation of "greenhouse gases" from non-stationary sources- namely, automobiles. Urban liberals would much rather see us dependent on government run public transportation. Anything that can be done to increase dependance on government, they're for it.

He's a very intelligent and well-educated man, and understands political theory and the nature of politics--which makes his sorta-lefty voting record all the more shameful. I'd like Odumbass to bring up Amnesty as soon as possible, so we can flush out people like McCain before the November elections. Would McCain stay with his original position or would he change it for the sake of votes?

I posted this on the other thread but it fits better here:
From Drudge:
Former vice president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore will receive an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee.
I am damn glad I am not an alumni of U.T. I hope GA stomps the piss out of them in every sport this year.

This comes simultaneous o Al Sharpton calling for an emergency meeting of black leaders regarding their support for the governor.
Update: And now his communications director Peter Kaufmann just quit."

McShame and Lady Lindsay were both making grumblings that they wanted to work with the administration on shamnesty. McShame can't help himself. The minute he got up a couple of points in the campaign (after choosing Palin) he ran off to La Raza to tell them that he was going to be pushing his shamnesty, again, as his first priority in office.

No more like he's a pragmatic power broker who sees better job security in structured society, government dependence, and identity politics rather than selling independence, personal responsibility, and equality in opportunity.

Its nice to see that this complete lunacy isn't going unchallenged, but ultimately, the EPA is a puppet agency.
Actually the EPA is made up of a host of commies and "green" zealots who do not care who is president. They ran amuck on several fronts when Bush was President as well. I mean, who in the hell wants to get out of college and go to work for the EPA? Is it someone who wants to build things and create a better mousetrap or a Giai zealot who wants to elliminate humanity to protect the mother earth?
In the case of Rockefellor he is just trying to protect his ass for reelection. What they should be doing is elliminating the EPA. It is like a union, it has long outlived its purpose.

Slightly o/t but somewhat relevant: just read over at GP that Katrina "victims" (the quintessential ones -- sorry, sorry, I must even though it's wrong) are either already filing or are wishing to file suit against the oil companies for contributing to greenhouse gases, which cause global warming, which cause hurricanes, which were so awfully unleashed upon them. Anybody have the full goods on that story?
Don't ask me to link -- I'm not skilled in the ways of link fu.

It's almost as if Obama doesn't know what he's doing.
Maybe a few more years of seasoning in the Senate would have helped.

I don't understand what you're saying. I don't see where he's a a 'power broker'.
Rockafella doesn't need 'job security' for himself, as his seat is Bought & Paid For. He could stand up on his Senate desk and gobble like a deranged turkey and still get serially re-elected.
I don't know what he believes; my point was that his motivation seems to be a life-long attempt to be accepted as 'one of the people'--in the way that uber-rich tools tend to think of The People. He's uncomfortable in his own skin, man: He apparently wants to be Not His Father. So he usually hides his intellect and coasts along with Lame Lefty slogans--and really, really enjoys being a Senator.
To him, that Senate seat is a way of being a powerful unaccountable Prick while posing as a Friend of the Little Guy. He's an uber-hypocrite.....

#52:
And he is actually representing the interests of his state in the US Senate. No matter how he came to do that, that is appropriate.
Good for Sen. Rockefeller.
