Rob Simmons Is Out
— LauraW

A couple days ago he said he would stay in, even though he lost the Republican Party nomination.

But:

McMahon's personal fortune, her willingness to spend up to $50 million in the race and her win in the state convention proved too much for Simmons to overcome.

He will still be in the primary.

2 The right thing to do. He's saved the GOP an annoying and distracting internal feud. I wish Simmons the best in whatever he decides to do next.

oh well.

its connecticut

I wasn't expecting a right winger to win anyway. another scott brown type republican is fine, as long as it means we win back the senate.

I'm pretty sure McMahon is to the right of Simmons.  I think he probably would have been the stronger nominee, but at least she can spend a lot of dough.

5 I heard Bill Simmons dropped out because Will Forks was about to break a major story on him.

6 He will still be in the primary?  Is that to allow Schiff to make a primary challenge, or is it just going through the motion?

10 Kudlow on saturday had quite a few Ct callers saying that she is a dem in republican clothing and has donated copious amounts of money to dem candidates and they could not understand how she could get the nomination.  They were really really upset.  another republican candidate who is a stealth BO dem?

Agreed, but let's hope that the left-tard agenda still doesn't get mostly passed under the banner of "bipartisanship".

The Repubs need to be the party of "no".

Probably just means its too late to take his name off the ballots.

Well...

"Linda McMahon donated $10,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on September 26, 2006, a contribution that helped Joe Courtney weeks before his win against Rob Simmons for the Second Congressional District."

And someone sent her to dispose of him again. I guess he's just not RINO enough.

And she's a friend of and frequent contributor to some guy named Rahm Something.

NOTHING TO SEE THERE.

I doubt McMahon is a liberal so much as an opportunist.  A lot of people in business, including some people I know to be very conservative, give to both sides.  I would think/hope that she's at least somewhat bound to the positions she takes in the election.

Lauch Faircloth not only gave money to democrats, he was their frickin nominee for governor a few years before he switched and ran for the Senate as a Republican.  He ended up with about a 98% conservative voting record.  I doubt we'll get anywhere near as lucky with McMahon but I think she'll be at least as reliable as Brown (as opposed to Blumenthal who would vote liberal 98% of the time).

17 My understanding was that the McMahons caught Simmons in the parking lot, and after delivering a vicious smackdown, they tried to run him down with a limo.

"Republicans could run Rob Simmons, a Connecticut legislator with a distinguished record of service in the House of Representatives, the CIA, and as a Yale political science professor -- who actually did serve in Vietnam, winning two Bronze Stars and retiring as a colonel." - Ann Coulter.

Voters in Connecticut never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Linda McMahon or Dick Blumenthal?
Might as well be Don King and Al Sharpton.

Good luck with that because IÂ’m not voting.

20 It's people like Rocks (#20) that keep Democrats in power. "I'm not voting." How valiantly Conservative of you!

And why do I give a crap whether the Republicans are in power if the Republicans think Linda McMahon belongs in the US Senate?

Posted by: Rocks at May 25, 2010 08:31 AM (Q1lie)

22 She's snarlin' Arlen in drag! If she could defeat Blumenthal  she'll switch to Democrat within 4 years. And while some business people give to both parties, I don't know any real Republicans who would give $10,000 to Rahm Emanuel's PAC. Problem is Simmons had no real principles to stick to so he chose both sides of every issue. No real winners here except lying weasel Blumenthal.

Posted by: Jim at May 25, 2010 09:02 AM (y2gov)

23 So Peter Schiff couldn't qualify?  or at least he didn't have the money to challenge her.  And he has money.  No wonder blue menthol (whoever first wrote that, i love it) stayed in, she is just there to fill the republican spot on the ballot.  All the dems i know give a lot to the dems and a token donation to the republicans.  rumor has it she gave a lot to the dems and that she is admitting that she doesn't vote?

Posted by: curious at May 25, 2010 09:08 AM (p302b)

24 She should be required to bring in WWE members to body slam Senate Democrats on a daily basis if she gets elected.

Admit it, who wouldn't want to see John Cena put Chuck Schumer through a table?
