— Slublog So this is what professionalism looks like at the Obama White House?

Mary Katharine Ham calls Gibbs the "Dane Cook of political humor." Sarah Palin may be a public figure, but she is technically a private citizen. It doesn't matter who is being targeted, this sort of mocking is unbecoming and displays a juvenile mindset on the part of the press secretary that does not reflect well on the president.

Freak-out worthy, no.
Sorry--but yes. Over the last six years--since his DNC speech in 2004, we have been force fed the totally fabricated myth that Obama is a great communicator, BLESSED--yes, BLESSED with a peerless speaking ability and he is just intellectually brilliant don't you know. And it was just that--a myth.
So when these amateurs mock someone for a perceived lack of smarts, it supremely pssies me off because they are STILL treating the business of governance as a 7th grade popularity contest. Enough. Even in the ludicrous days of the Lewkinsky scandal, the Clinton White House never behaved this way, nor did Nixon or even Jimmah. The Presidency should be dignified, not cartoonish.

There is definitely some of that going on, but when there's no commerce, loading up can be a bad plan.
Need to keep a proper balance and make sure both barrels are loaded for the chance to jump on a 'Crown Jewel', shold one surface.
Problem is, a lot of the top end is cemented in collector hands. Most are wealthy enough to rid eout the storm.
Thesituation is very similar to the late 80's Ferarri bubble...patience and attrition. When money starts flowing in both directions, things will creep back up to speed.
Best way to describe it is 'Vapor Lock'. If you have ever experienced it, you know what I am saying. Once it happens, you don't just get her running again and take off. You kind of baby her up to speed...

Palin was no less childish in writing notes on her hand and trying to play it off like she wasn't reading off it. Come on.. 3rd grade much
They weren't notes they were bullets. Ever given a speech? Taught a class? If you know what you are talking about all you have to do is have a list of points you want to make sure you address. The order is important to. Because you are talking to an audience, it is more effective to have something you can draw into your line of vision so that you don't break from your conversation with the audience. "Reading off it"? I seriously doubt she read the bullet points off to the crowd.
If you don't know what you are talking about, or if someone else wrote your speech, you have to read it. It's not close to the same thing. The person with bullet points not only is far superior in intelligence and knowledge of the topic but can respond to the audience. The reader is just a tool--anybody can do it, almost.

On the same level as WH releasing photo of Obama's daughter hiding behind a couch in the oval office, and the helpful lamestream media past it together with the famous Kennedy photo.
They (lsm) hope to bring up the connection of Obama = Kennedy. But all we saw was an immature copycat act, with improper usage of Obama's much older daughter as prop.
Gibbs is another copycat.

I see Valerie Jarrett a lot -- often at Georgetown's power crowd restaurant, Cafe Milano.
In fact, one night when I was at the annual gala dinner of Jim Zogby's Arab American Institute -- an important evening for leading figures from the Arab-American community to connect with the Washington political establishment -- Jarrett was on the docket to be the major keynote speaker of the entire night.
Jarrett, however, had to modify her schedule because of what she said were "urgent duties that were calling her back to the White House right away" and so she gave a few minutes of laudatory comments toward the Arab American community before most people were in their seats between reception and sitting down for dinner. My hosts that evening said that they were mainly interested in hearing her and asked me if I wanted to depart with them for Cafe Milano. I said sure -- and wow -- there Ms. Jarrett was.

Really? She seems much more sensible than Arnold. And she's not sleeping with a Kennedy, so that's gotta' help.
Arnold was never a CEO, even if he did have 'business' experience. CEOs are used to being unpopular. Arnold, at his core, is an entertainer. He really didn't have the stomach to fight. He wants to be liked.
She's running on reducing government expenditures, job creation (improving the tax climate for businesses), and fixing the public schools here (which, from what I can tell, are a huge mess).
I think she'll pull crossover votes.
Fiorina is the one I'm less sure of. I'm not happy with how her opponent has smeared her, but I do think she is more of an Arnold type.

Ooh, cue the Perry Mason music. I've got the motive behind the asshattery. It is of course as everyone pointed out, Obama and Co. are afraid, and they should be. IBD did a poll and the surprising thing was this (cribbed from Hotair):
But the biggest piece of bad news comes from respondents’ views of the Tea Party movement, which has grown in response to Obama’s big-spending policies. Three-quarters of independents have a favorable view of the movement, which suggests that the Democratic attacks on so-called “teabaggers” (a sexual slur) may be backfiring. The same percentage says that one-party rule in Washington has been bad for the nation — and that’s just after one year of having Democrats hold all the levers of power.

We all know why the Jug-ear-naught hates him some Palin (from 200
:
"This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting and never use the word "victory," except when he's talking about his own campaign.
But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot...when that happens, what exactly is our opponent's plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish after he's done turning back the waters and healing the planet?
The answer -- the answer is to make government bigger, and take more of your money, and give you more orders from Washington, and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world.
America needs more energy; our opponent is against producing it. Victory in Iraq is finally in sight, and he wants to forfeit. Terrorist states are seeking nuclear weapons without delay; he wants to meet them without preconditions.
Al Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America, and he's worried that someone won't read them their rights."

Did he, the official spokesperson for the White House, just telegraph that the Tea Party is perceived as the opposition?

When he surrounds himself with like-radically minded incompetent downright evil d-bags, the image is exacerbated and our enemies are energized.
Before this tool came along, it was taken for granted that there would be an adult in charge who was ON OUR SIDE. When the 2012 campaign starts in earnest, the Republicans to a person should start with: "We are adults who love our country and show it in our actions and words."
If this guy would just get off the TV, and focus for 15 minutes on the right things for the economy (lowering taxes, etc.), and killing terrorists, I could cut this media glory hole some slack for making fun of a private citizen for making a few notes for a Q&A on her hand.

UGRev,
I'm a litigator and give speeches/arguments all the time. =Any professional speech maker knows that, on occasion, you will completely forget what you are talking about and where you are in your speech (large breasted jurors are my weakness). To solve this, I always boil my speeches down to 4 or 5 keywords (each keyword reminds me of a large chunk of my speech - in the order I want to cover them), and put those on a piece of paper. If I ever lose my train of thought, I just glance on the sheet and will recognize which topics I've covered, and which ones I have not. That allows me to figure out which general topic I'm covering at the moment, and I can get back into the speech without starting over.
It's just like using a mnemonic. Seriously, anybody who mocks Palin for this crib sheet is a fucking retard who has never set foot on a stage in their life.

Palin already one-upped herself by writing HI MOM on her palm, knowing that the LSM was creaming itself, zooming in on the inside of her hand like an obsessed gypsy reader.
Gibbs is a little slow on the uptake. And also weird.

People.. it's about PROFESSIONALISM. We should expect more from the people we intent to put on the pedestal. So hell ya I'm ripping on her.. she should know better for being unprofessional. WOW! Palin gives an hour-long speech and a Q&A (of many many words) with 5 words scribbled on her palm and THAT lends to the MSM's and liberals' (and some idiotic wouldbe conservatives that would rather walk away than kick a bully's ass) "false perception that she's not that bright"???
That's some stretch.
Anybody recall the big statement and then presser Obama had with the jumbotron behind the gathered reporters?

well writing on her hand definitely did not help her complete the mission. She further entrenched the false perception that she's not that bright.
Horseshit. It was an ad lib.
If you don't like her that's fine but this line is horseshit dude. She can give a whole speech with or without a promter and the holy one can't get through one sentence.
But she's the dumb one.
The clown in chief can give people the bird, but writing on your hand is unpresidential. Right.
I think she further entrenched your perception that she's not that bright.

327 Nozzle, she completed in giving the liberals enough food to go bat shit crazy with it in the MSM. Sometimes bad publicity is just BAD publicity.
The media doesn't need an actual event to provide bad publicity. Little mistakes Palin makes are probably in her advantage anyway; the MSM will latch onto those for a while instead of creating vile "news" which hurts her more.

So, a person's level of professionalism is determined by what they write their notes on? I guess then, by that measure, that Glowbama is professional when he can't read straight English from a teleprompter. Whereas, Palin is unprofessional when she gives a one-hour speech from five words written on her hand. Got it.
Posted by: MWTexas at February 09, 2010 02:00 PM (Nkox0)
Carrot Top. I'm just saying, with the level of quality and decorum we expect to be "Presidential" as of the dawn of time (The ascension of Obama restarted the calendar if you'll recall); Carrot Top is almost a bit to respected, revered, somber, and serious to be truly Presidential.
Seriously, I'm expecting Andrew "Dice" Clay to be the next Presidential spokesman next; just to show a bit more decorum and sanity than Gibbsy.

After six years of marriage, I have learned from experience with my wife that womens' clothing rarely has more than one pocket, if any at all, and if it does, it is large enough to hold change for the parking meter, and little else.
I'm not sure why this is. As a guy, I love pockets. Pockets inside of pockets. Cargo pants. Woodsman jackets. More pockets hidden in every seam than I have stuff to put in them.
I didn't see Palin at the event. I haven't seen the pictures. But I imagine that, from a pockets-standpoint, she was lacking a place for some notecards, a notecard, anything larger than a Post-It.
Plus, I recall from Glenn Beck talking about his first interview with her after she joined FNC, he talked about her still preparing and researching up until the interview started. Right or wrong, she may be someone who prefers to "cram," or someone who gets her best ideas right before the speech / interview / event.
Wanting to jot down some ideas, and not having anywhere to write them / keep them is completely cool with me. Rather than showing me some sort of mental lack, it shows me that she is always thinking.
There. I'm pretty sure the horse is dead now.

It was with no small sense of shock that I learned the White House has been recently snowbound--for going on 13 months now. Being cut off from the people of America as you no doubt are, and through no fault of your own that you are able to see, I felt that perhaps someone should point out that the view from your position of SCROTUS (Sage in Charge of Rebutting) is not precisely the view from way over here. No, sir, over HERE, in America.
To whit, every time you fine ladies and gentlemen in the White House, i.e. "wHosers", invoke the image, name, the idea, of Sarah Palin, you invite us to make comparisons to your various and collective qualities, and those of Mrs. Palin. A clear-eyed appreciation for the professionalism exhibited daily by the White House Staff, to a person (wHosers), compels one to the conclusion that this invitation on your part is intentional. That, in your wisdom, the wisdom admittedly of a POTUS, VPOTUS, TOTUS, and SCROTUS (forgive me, the names of the other reindeer escape me, sir) you believe that this accrues to your ever-increasing benefit.
No. No, no, no. Lets see. Um....NO. It's not working. She writes on her hand, and you look like bigger idiots for using a teleprompter than you did before. How is THAT possible?? You write on your hand, sir, WTF is THAT?!?!? "Bush did it first!", "Palin did it first!" No, it comes across as mean, sleazy, slightly paranoid, possibly misogynistic, mildly R-word, copycat, bigger idiots. A tad elitist. Holier than thou. oh, and devoid of humor, i almost forgot devoid of humour. But not, at least, self-deprecating. No, sir! No one would accuse you wHosers of that! Maybe a pinch of asshole. A whiff of douchebag. Ok, a couple whiffs. I'm not saying you wHosers are all those things...I'm jus' sayin'!
You wHosers almost never compare favorably to Sarah Palin. Palin looks Authentic. wHosers look Clueless. Out here, in America, its pretty noticeable.
So, remember, sir, collective chin up, and, keep doing what you're doing, sincerely!

Seems to me that was the idea when GW was elected to replace Billy Jeff, the adults were once more in charge. Billy Jeff's crew's response was to pull the W's off all of the keyboards in the White House.
Sad to say, I miss the professionalism of the dope-smoking-couldn't-get-security-clearances Clinton White House staff.
And if Palin had written her talking points on a 3x5 index card the MSM would have reacted in exactly the same way, and we would have doofuses in the comments screaming about how unprofessional it is to write your notes on 3x5 index cards.

way back in high school we were taught that you're always better off using bullet points just to keep your thoughts in order when giving a speech/debate than reading off a sheet (uh, or teleprompter).
this whole thing actually points to palin as being a skilled orator able to coherently express thoughts without the help of a teleprompter. why the left thought they could make fun of her for this (nobody ever writes notes on their hands! noooobody!!!!) is beyond me.
but hell, i for one am glad they're doing it. and i count my blessings for every day that bobby gibbs hasn't yet been thrown under the bus so he can go out and make a fool of the administration.

Wasn't the trigger when Charles Schumer said he had come out of a meeting and we were days away from a global financial meltdown? Or maybe when Bernanke said much the same things in mid-September? Nothing guarantees the incumbent party will lose an election like screams of "we're all gonna die!" 6 weeks from the election.
