Rumors, Smears, and WAGs
— Gabriel Malor

Confession: when the Rielle Hunter story broke in the Enquirer (the first Rielle Hunter story to break in the Enquirer, I mean) I thought we should pass on it. It was the Enquirer; it was just the sort of salacious thing that sounds more true the more the accused denies it; it was hard for me to believe that someone who has 24-hour press coverage and a well-known coif could be that stupid. And I felt bad for the cancer-stricken wife and his confused kids.

Well, here we are again.

PRESIDENT OBAMA has been caught in a shocking cheating scandal after being caught in a Washington, DC Hotel with a former campaign aide, sources say.

And now, a hush-hush security video that shows everything could topple both ObamaÂ’s presidency and marriage to Michelle!

A confidential investigation has learned that Obama first became close to gorgeous 35 year-old VERA BAKER in 2004 when she worked tirelessly to get him elected to the US Senate, raising millions in campaign contributions. While Baker has insisted in the past that “nothing happened” between them, the ENQUIRER has learned that top anti-Obama operatives are offering more than $1 million to witnesses to reveal what they know about the alleged hush-hush affair.

Click over and read the rest, I'll wait.

So notice. The story is based on: (1) a video tape that no one has seen; (2) money offered by "anti-Obama operatives" to find witnesses to this event that may not have happened; and (3) an old 2004 event, not a recent tryst.

It looks to me like the Enquirer just recycled the old Vera Baker story that made the rounds during the campaign. Also, note the Enquirer has sharply "updated" its article to remove many of the details of its original report. Joyner has the original version at the link.

But... [ace]: The story really didn't "make the rounds" during the campaign. It was shopped to ABC and the Enquirer, and ABC, I'm told, didn't bother with it but in turn shopped it to a British paper, which did run it. Blogs mentioned it (including this one) but no media in America touched it.

I doubt much will come of this, but just on a personal level, I'm happy the National Enquirer is running it, just because it makes me look like less of a nut for pushing it.

This old Confederate Yankee post has details about the allegations. It seems like the Enquirer has the same story with the same particulars, but are slow-rolling their release. Like, we know the hotel in question is the Hotel George, but the Enquirer just says "a hotel" for now.

On the other hand, it makes this Golf Digest cover a lot more hilarious.

4 This rumor was discussed last night.  Even if this is true, so what?  It's not going to "topple Obama's Presidency".  If anything should do that, it's what he's doing right now.

Obama's followers will still praise him. Hell, laud him for his sexual prowess.

Posted by: eman at May 01, 2010 08:21 AM (p+Ba1)

8 The only thing that strikes me as a possible credible element is that the limo driver has been shopping his story for a while and now the Enquirer says they have independently verified his story.

Once upon a time, journalist did not run a story until it had been verified (I know, what a concept, right?).

I wonder if the Enquirer sat on this until they did have some credible evidence other than one guy's hearsay?

But, even so, it's still just a distraction and/or smokescreen.

Major news outlets avoided it, and now there is a videotape from the hotel? I say bring it on and let's watch the Pied Piper try to play his way out...Kudos to the NE if hey got the video.

But those of us paying attention then in October 2008 and believed the report didn't expect much. Can we, now? Probably not. Except to say the COWboy President is no different than any other politician who lies and believes his power can save him.

Slightly OT - noted that NPR this morning must have mentioned 10 times, over and above Dan Schorr's 5 mentions, how quickly and smartly the Feds have responded to the oil blowout in the Gulf.

Huh?  Napolitano threatening BP is a "response"?  Hell, the NYT even writes about how they were slow off the mark.  And first Obama isn't going down there, but then he is, but he's not going to make the "mistake" of just flying over, according to Dan Schorr.  And tonight he's being feted at the WH Correpondents Dinner, not just playing a fucking guitar.

What a load of horsecrap.  Wonder what we would be hearing on NPR if President McCain had just proposed offshore drilling a couple of weeks ago, and now this happened.  Dan Schorr would be telling us it's the end of his fucking Presidency, that's what!  Jesus, what a bunch of shills!

ps. How about that Krugman, trying to innoculate teh Won from criticism by pretending the evil consevratives are going to say it's Obama's fault.  I wonder if he got that idea from the fact that fucking Democrats did it to Bush for 8 years?

39 A recent gossip column discussed a possible Supreme Court appointment for a man Obama knew at Harvard. It was Cindy Adams in the NY Post.

Excuse me, I mean, excuse me -- but I was the first -- the very first -- to tell you a vacancy was due to come due on the Supreme Court. Do not tell me you can't remember. Go back and look in the clips. I now tell you -- and that frazzled gaggle in Washington who sit around mostly monitoring one another -- that yet another vacancy looms. It will come front and center next year.

I have something else to tell you. Appeals Court Judge Merrick Garland is the name floating around as today's current leading nominee for the next associate justice. He pleasures the Obama appetite. He's from Harvard. He's from Chicago. This is to tell you -- and His Honor -- he ain't getting it. Not that I think he isn't. I know he isn't.

I donÂ’t normally venture into stories about politicianÂ’s adultery, because I believe theyÂ’re tangential to the important issues, but if this had been McCain or Palin, the MSM would have been on this like stink on shit.

The story was printed in legitimate news sources other than the Enquirer:

The New York Slimes saw fit to print the rumors surrounding an affair McCain supposedly had, but like good little Obama hacks, theyÂ’re tight lipped over this.

44 I agree with everyone about the lameness of the sourcing/age of story, etc. Sounds like bunk. But....I will be keeping an eye open. If there's anyone else out there (chamber maid, bartender, Vera's "ex-", whatever) who knows something and sees that the story is hitting the newsstands, they'll want their chunk of change and start blabbing to anyone who ponies up. Things can fall apart, or gain steam, real quick in these semi-gossip/semi-news stories. One thing I noticed is that Vera reportedly said "nothing happened". That is as unequivocal a statement as someone can make (in the context of sex), and if I see any back pedaling from it, my Tiger-meter is gonna start beeping.

45 WhoÂ’s pushing the Baker business now, and why?  Is there a himbo eruption coming for the White House, so they want to preemptively start rumors the current president is such a stud heÂ’s bedding down a woman like Baker?

Interesting take from Hillbuzz. I agree, and maybe Kal Penn does feel chatty. But all signs point to Obama being gay.

Posted by: Tattoo De Plane at May 01, 2010 08:59 AM (mHQ7T)

46 I'd prefer that we (conservatives) stay out of this stuff, and focus on how Obama is a bad President because he represents a value system that is antithetical to everything that is great about America.  Even if this rumor is true, and even if it could be used to bring down Obama, the left could find someone else without the baggage who is every bit as bad for America as Obama.

Posted by: anotheranon at May 01, 2010 09:07 AM (2fJU0)

47 I looked back in the Hillbuzz archives to find what the deal with Man's Country is. The names says it all, but I wanted details.

In Chicago, guys in their late 40s and early 50s, who admit they used to go to bathhouses, love talking about a skinny black guy with big ears who said he was a “state rep”, whenever he’d go to Man’s Country to be serviced by white men there.

WeÂ’re in our 30s here and have never set foot in ManÂ’s Country.  But, go to Sidetracks on Showtunes nights, Little JimÂ’s or Northend on Halsted, or the Lucky Horseshoe at Belmont and talk to guys whoÂ’ve lived the scene, been there, done that, and will admit to being lifelong fans of ManÂ’s Country.

TheyÂ’ve got stories to tell, believe us.

The thing is, despite both ManÂ’s Country and Steamworks (the two bathhouses in Chicago) being in business for DECADES, and doing fairly well, even in this economy, few people here will admit theyÂ’ve ever been there.  Since they wonÂ’t admit theyÂ’ve gone there, they donÂ’t want to be quoted talking about anyone else going there either. Absolutely none of them will go on record being the guy who talks about that skinny, effeminate, black “state rep” who liked having white men give him fellatio (but never reciprocated, the stories go).

They know what happened to Larry Sinclair regarding coming forward with those stories.

But, they sure talk in bars.

And that makes us think of Tiger Woods and all these affairs.  It seems if you were in golf circles, you knew all about thisÂ…and probably know even more.  But, no golfers ever exposed Woods.  Even his mistresses didnÂ’t rat him out until he brought himself down.  Once the floodgates opened, however, the truth all spilled out.

The same is going to happen with our current president in several areas, SOMEDAY:

(1) How did he travel to Pakistan in 1981, as he details in the book William Ayers ghost wrote for him, when no US citizen was allowed in Pakistan with a US passport in 1981?

(2) He admits to doing a large amount of drugs while going to Occidental College in California, smoking dope in high school, and doing cocaine at Columbia — but did he sell drugs too?

(3) What, exactly, is the big secret with his college transcripts, birth certificate, adoption papers, medical records, and other documents he refuses to release?

(4) Does he have early stage ParkinsonÂ’s as many suspect?

(5) Did he patronize an establishment called ManÂ’s Country in Chicago during the 1990s?

(6) Was he a member of a support group of men at Trinity United Church who also enjoyed frequenting places such as ManÂ’s Country?  If so, who were the other members and did Jeremiah Wright arrange those meetings for these married men with similar interests?

(7) Did he take a $10,000 pay-to-play bribe from Yesse Yehudah when he needed money after his failed congressional race against Bobby Rush?

There are people who know the answers to all of the above, and more questions that we havenÂ’t listedÂ…questions people in Chicago talk about all the time, without any prompting from us.

Worse case? He loses his GBLT support because he's "betrayed" them on issues like gay marriage and DADT. But, he's not going to be re-elected anyway, so big deal.

Instead, he's the first black AND the first gay president. Should make for some good book sales after 2012.

75 I would wager that it is true, there is probably much more.  I don't think it will affect him.  Obama is tanking his presidency all by himself so this probably doesn't matter.  He is fair game though, no reason for them *not* to report it if the story is solid.

76 I can't help but thinking that the source of these stories are Rahmbo and Assholerod themselves. It would make for a nice distraction to get the troops to circle the wagons and wag their fingers at the "GOP hypocrite prudes"

Nevermind what it does to Sasha and Malia.  Typical leftist Democrat--to hell with the children.

Yeah, the daughters will have to deal with all the fallout of their father's infidelity and sexuality and whatnot at some point, but the youngest one is...eight?  She still probably thinks her daddy is an OK guy.

That's not "prude", that's thinking about someone besides yourself.

80 Yeah, that's... if true, there are some severe Daddy-biracial issues going on there.

The Hillbuzz theory is that he simply hates women because of his mother.  I've heard a theory that he just hates white women.

But it is very clear, even from the cleansing done by Ayers, that Obama loathed and resented his mother and worshiped his absent father.  He also resented his stepfather.

i'll bet anything theres some truth to this, if he's bi.. then maybe he likes a real woman occasionally!

does anyone here really believe the NE would stick their necks out about some sloppy story regarding the POTUSA?

they would lose their credibility FOREVER if its not factual..hell, they were considered for the pulitzer!

82 Nevermind what it does to Sasha and Malia.  Typical leftist Democrat--to hell with the children.

The daughters are props by now.  How many times have Barack and Michelle gone off -- out of town -- without the kids?  Not just dinner out, but several days in another state.

And, of course, there's Barack's endless golf outings.

Remember what they accused Sarah Palin of.  With libs, it's always projection.

83 In the spirit of fairness, I used to think, "well, at least Toonces seems like an OK dad."  Then I realized that he sat his daughters in Rev. Wright's church from birth, which wiped out that particular attribute.

84 I didn't like it when the NY Times (blech) ran the non-story on McCain, and I don't think that this story should be run until there is some actual proof. Right is right. But if it turns out to be something, I will be laughing my ass off, along with everyone else.

Doesn't the Enquirer have strong ties to the Clinton machine?  Even if the allegations don't amount to anything more doesn't the mere fact they are starting to run opposition signal something about Obama's prospects?

Nobody strikes when the tyrant is strong...

ace buddy,

you were nigh on banning morons for typing the words V E R A    B A K E R  (spreading it out, since the spam filter on that particular name might still be in place)

You owe some explanation to your devoted following as to why this is a story you're willing to address now.

No, Vera's fairly attractive.

95 >>>You owe some explanation to your devoted following as to why this is a story you're willing to address now. I addressed it at the time, dummy. I was one of the guys pushing it. I drew the line at writing her name because 1) it was just a rumor 2) I didn't think I should publicize a private citizen's name (with all the hassle that entails) on the basis of the rumor and 3) due to libel. Of course, some guys who think they're terrifically smart decided that "Free Speech rights" demanded they write the name over and over in the comments, despite the name being widely known, etc.

Couple weeks ago the headline was "Bill Clinton drinking himself to death."  Amused me greatly in a checkout lane.

My husband hates to go into the grocery store or any other store for that matter. He insists on calculating how many minutes he worked to pay the tab at checkout. Therefore, he reads the Enquirer and the other same type magazine headlines at top volume to me in the line. "LOOK HONEY BILL CLINTON IS DRINKING HIMSELF TO DEATH." Ugh.

We can only hope.

I'm sure Obama is as dirty as they come, or dirtier. But why investigate? Let the manchurian candidate do his good work for our socialist/marxist/communist comrads.

100 But it is very clear, even from the cleansing done by Ayers, that Obama loathed and resented his mother and worshiped his absent father.  He also resented his stepfather.

He got a head full of crazy from his mother. I remember reading about him manipulating his stepfather for money (cutting his teeth for future political shakedowns.) He idealized his absentee father like suburban white kids who emulate hip hop artists. But Frank Marshall Davis was his greatest influence. And he fucked Bill Ayers and plenty of other old white dudes in Chicago.

101 Frankly, the Rashid Khalidi tape the LA Times is embargoing is far more relevant and interesting.

While in his younger days Obama hung with the guys more recently he has also been associated with attractive divorced women like Valerie Jarrett and Desiree Rogers.  Ever hear of the Chicago black community practice called "man sharing"?     An educated successful black man in Chicago is going to have a lot of opportunities to cheat as there are vastly more educated successful black women than similarly situated black men.  So much so that Sun Time's columnist Mary Mitchell once wrote several columns on what she called "man sharing" or the idea that it's perfectly OK to poach on a sister's territory if you only intend to share her man, not steal him away.

I think Obama would get a perverse thrill over having a small harem to play off each other.   After all, a great many men who don't like women as people have sex with them precisely as a way to show contempt.   It really would be the ultimate thrill for a misogynist: Screw several women over emotionally each time you have sex with just one of them.

Now for the hard question, the one that is more important than any other, and that every one of us has in the back of their mind:

Does this ho he supposedly cheated on Michelle with have an ass as big as hers?
