Saturday Morning Reading: Recyclables Into Landfills
— Gabriel Malor

Two links that don't have anything we didn't already know, but get the "I give it a B-plus" AOSHQ stamp of approval for gratuitous snark.

Have you ever seen the "Paper Recycling" Truck, the "Glass Recycling" Truck, the "Plastic Recycling" Truck, and the "Green Waste" Truck? Or do you just see the same old garbage truck coming for your carefully sorted recyclables?

First, a rant on just how wasteful, in terms of money and man-hours, recycling is. Which isn't to say that some recycling isn't worth it. Just that a lot of the time, all that meticulous sorting isn't really doing a lick of good. Not to mention, those recycling nazis that wander around harassing people for not putting the trash in the right bin.

Second, a follow-up with helpful links to just-the-facts-ma'am news articles on the subject.

We long ago figured out here that it was nothing more than just another tax. Along with the "recucling" mess came a new fee on our tax bills.

The only thing that actually gets "recucled" is aluminum which was already close to 100% recycled before this insanety hit.

8 The only recycling that's worth it is already being done by hobos: aluminum cans. Paper, glass, plastic, etc. requires too much energy to sort, process and remelt for any of it to be worth more as an end-product than the cost of recycling. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with landfills. When they are full, they are covered in clay and then dirt and grass and make lovely sledding hills or golf courses.

10 There's no market for recycled ANYTHING these days.  About the only thing of value is copper and a few other metals and the bad guys are stealing that stuff right out of A/C units in broad daylight!

You work your buns off, cleaning and sorting this stuff and then watch the guy dump it all in the landfill.  For this, most of us pay good money, in addition to the original cost of the product, to have it recycled into something useful.  Not happening!

Posted by: Dell at March 13, 2010 09:05 AM (DjVlk)

11 We used to have recycling in our rural Colorado county. It couldn't cover its costs and went belly up.

Any where between 20 & 40% polled usually say environmental issues are important to their electoral decisions.  In Dallas, with a free recycling/pickup service, it was found that just 3% of the population was using the service.

In the city's infinite wisdom, during a recession no less, they decided to extend service, from bi-weekly to weekly pickups.  And .....  free recycling containers for all who wanted them.  Did they wait to collect the addresses of those requesting them, so they could be efficiently delivered, in one, if not two deliveries?  Noooooooooooo.  My father reports he's already seen 4 seperate deliveries, on his small, one block long street.  One container per delivery.

14 They have separate trucks here, but one day the recycling truck was being repaired at the beginning of the day so the trash truck made two cycles through the neighborhood, once for trash and the second time to pick up the recycling. I suppose they thought nobody would notice it was the same truck.

20 Our town has sent us all a bullcrap recycle bin ... no one bothers to check the contents, other than the recycler complaining if the stuff in the bin is messy.

I just treat the big blue bin as a place to dump cardboard boxes and other large crap, as it all ends up in the same pile at the landfill.

This town pretends to recycle, pretends to make the people who live here recycle, and the trash haulers pretend to sort the trash  in order to get the hauling contract.

The eco-weenies are happy, and can have their religious experience at their special blue trash bin.

Posted by: IllTemperedCur at March 13, 2010 09:31 AM (9Lm5R)

23 I had an exec in the recycling business tell me that they sort everything anyway and that sorting your own stuff is basically a waste of time.  Which stands to reason, since in the bulk materials business - like mining - automated high speed sortation processes are pretty well-developed.  Not that most of it matters in this case.

26 My mom puts a lot of effort into recycling her trash (it's all trash, except aluminum cans).  I tried explaining the futility of it all, but she just wouldn't listen.  It occurred to me that she does it because it makes her feel good.  We pay billions of dollars each year to sort trash (and reuse some of it), just so people can feel good about themselves.

In the end, we could probably subsidize the production of bongs and weed, and end up with essentially the same effect at a much cheaper cost.

Me and the wife recycle everything. Not because we are died in the wool hippies, but because we are capitalists and it makes perfect economic sense. Raw material extraction from hardwood pulp or from  mineral extrusion in a mine costs about ten times more than recycling from already made products. Thats why the Chinese are cutting everyones throats and undercutting the price on steel and copper.

That article is disturbing in so many ways.  First of all, do you ever hear Obama, Gates, Hillary or Mitchell jumping all over the the Palestineans?  No.  Do you ever hear them make demands of the Palestineans to start doing this, or stop doing that? No.

Obama is determined to destroy the relationship between Israel and the United States.  He's already made Israel look like the bad guy just like he's done to the United States.  When Israel strikes Iran's nuclear installations, it will be without the support of the United States, and Obama will probably be the first leader to condemn them.  Fuck Obama!

Here in LA, there are thousands of recycle thieves who go around and pick every last can and bottle out of everyone's recycle bin.  Usually they are using a stolen grocery cart.  I would be that not ONE can or bottle ever ends up in the city recycling center.

WASHINGTON – Climate change is here and scientists need to do a better job of explaining it to the public, the director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Friday.

"We are no longer constrained by talking about some possible future. Climate change is happening now and it's happening in people's back yards," Jane Lubchenco told reporters at a briefing.

"Scientists have seriously underestimated the importance of explaining what we know about climate in a way people can understand," she said.

59 Since we're talking about "green" B.S. or not-B.S., I'll note that this week I put in two more of those CFL bulbs. One in my shed, one in my den. These are a new brand/style. The last 2 batches have me 90% convinced that they are absolute garbage, ridiculously expensive by comparison, and archaically inefficient at their only job  (quickly illuminating space).
I've been repeatedly told that I am wrong and that somehow I must've just been unlucky. This is their last chance.
Oh, and I now have 4 CFL's that are dead and I still don't know what to do with them. They have a skull and crossbones-like logo with "Mercury Content blah-blah-blah" stamped on the box. I suppose I should go check the County website. Joy.

67 Heh, when I took out the cat crap the other morning, there were two maintenance guys in the "recyclables" dumpster pulling out all the garbage to put in the "garbage dumpster."   Apparently the people who live in my complex can't be bothered to walk the extra two feet (I'm also entertained everytime I go out and someone who isn't elderly/frail drives their garbage over to the dumpster), and the company that picks up the "recyclables" doesn't like finding cat crap in it.  I distinctly heard the phrase "fucking retards" and thought Rahm Emanuel was in the dumpster...

I don't recycle a damn thing.  I don't even take my empties back for the five-cent deposit...they just ride in my car until I come across a Boy Scout troop collecting cans to fund a project.  Everything else goes in the garbage dumpster.

I especially refuse to wash my garbage.  When I'm home in Milwaukee, the water comes from Lake Michigan, along with weepy demands to conserve it because the Great Lakes are fragile and the water level's dropping and we're all going to die from lack of water in the next twenty years or so.  If that's actually true, why are we wasting water on our fucking garbage?!

84 Dammit, it is very easy to understand the value of scrap metal.  There has bee a lot of stories about copper being stolen from construction sites.  In the Knoxville, Tenn. area recently all of the air conditioning units'  power cables were taken from a church.

If there was no value in recycling certain metals, there would be no theft; it's that simple.

We just dump all our recycling into one bin. Who knows where it goes.

Remember a few weeks ago I made a comment about how one of our cities here is considering cutting garbage pick-up to every other week to encourage more recycling because they would still pick up recycling every week?

I don't think the feel good bureaucrats have reached the end of the "recycling" lie quite yet.

I read once somewhere that we could put all the trash American produces in 50 years on Ted Turner's ranch and still have room left for his mansion.  And I think that's a fucking awesome place to put it.

I do wonder about some of the trace metals used in electronics...not about "OMG! LEACHING!" as much "they call them trace metals...because there's not a lot of them...might not be a bad idea to reclaim some of them...."

102 OK some points I feel I have to make --
The modern recycling movement has roots in WWII propaganda. At the time people were encouraged to recycle as a way to  prepare them for sacrifice and to give them a personal stake in the war. Even then many materials that were collected were not used. (tires, paper,..) this is a form of collectivist brainwashing -- it makes people feel good and and makes them committed to an outcome and ready for more sacrifice. Communists do it all the time

Most metals can be profitably recycled -- Steel, Aluminium, copper, lead batteries. most everything else is a waste.

I think NYC cut the recycling to save money a few years ago and there was such outcry they reinstated it. Even though they admitted that they were using double trucks and just sending both sets to landfills -- the unions et al. pushed for and succeeded in continuing this obvious waste.

china was buying up steel because (a) they were up against contract limits for ore, and (b) the ocean shipping was free since the containers were deadheading back to China anyway.

Just thank g-d that they are spending the money on trucks and sorters. If we end recycling those same cretins will probably have no place to go except the local schools as teachers were they can do even more damage.

128 Mayor Martin J. Chávez has made a commitment with his zero waste initiative to eliminate landfills by 2030, emphasizing waste reduction & recycling rather than disposal.

F-ing genius (ex-)mayor thinks he can eliminate landfills. This will be accomplished by feeding all of our waste to unicorns.  The unicorns will then crap skittles which will be packaged and sold to pay for children's health care.  It's a win-win-win.

In order to implement cart-based recycling, RecycleBank (a recycling rewards program), and Pay-as-You-Throw (PAYT) refuse services, proposed fees include: new 48-gallon refuse cart service would cost between $12 and $13 per household per month and 96-gallon refuse cart service would cost between $14 and $15 (all charges are inclusive of recycling and environmental fees).

F-ing nazis want to make me pay more if I don't take the new garbage refuse cart that is 1/2 the size of the current one.

The problem is that the worthess EPA conglomerate is drunk on power and zeal and has written all these new regulations for dumps. It is no matter that the world has had refuse dumps since the beginning of time and if you treated them with common sense there was never any problem.

You dig a big trench and you bury the garbage, that is all it takes. But now they want all kinds of clay, sediment, impervious diapers etc along with even more engineering controls.

They act like they are buring high level radioactive waste every time you dump a frickin bananna peel.  What we need to do is elect some real conservatives and gain control of these unelected despots rnning these organizations.

The EPA needs to be reigned in to its original scope and just about ALL of the other federal beaurocracies need to just be elliminated in totality.

I worked at a politically correct corporation in north Dallas where a crew of hectoring women managers harassed everyone about putting the right garbage in the right recycling bin.  One night, when I was working late, I saw the janitor emptying all the recycling bins into the same garbage can and press on.

The true purpose of recycling in the office is to provide the politically correct with a club with which to beat their coworkers, establishing their dominance.

Ever make a Carolina shotgun?

Don't know what one is. But in college I shared a house w/ some guys who worked security at Peach Bottom. They stole some 1" ID reactor grade pipe and had a machinist put a morris taper thread on one end and make a massive matching breech clock. Then they'd cut 1" bar stock into slugs. Four fingers of FFF powder behind the slug and it would go clean through a washing machine filled with water. Good times!

One of my clients in Ohio is a camp that has a small (7,000 g.) sewage package plant (which is part of my scope).  In this specific Ohio county the EPA is...well, the word tyranical seems to fit pretty fine.  The EPA is trying to change ALL homes in said county to package plants!...now if instead, they would just require homeowners empty their septic 1x /yr. it would probably alleviate all problems...but then, that would be too easy and allow the homeowners too few EPA regs....

193 You morons/ettes will love this.  We went to dinner with friends last night to a seafood place and ended up sitting outside on a covered deck where a pretty good band was playing.  Just as the band was about to go on break, a woman scurried up to one of the mics and held out a framed picture of a young man in a Navy uniform.  She announced to the crowd that it was here grandson who had just graduated from basic and.....wait for it.....she had gotten Prez Barkey to autograph it while he was in Savannah.  She said, "This was the only thing the president autographed the whole time he was here!1eleventy!!11"

There was literally complete silence on the deck, and we're talking people of all ages, including hipsters.  No one clapped, nothing.  So then she said, "Look, can't we put aside our political differences?  My grandson is going to be thrilled with this."

And with that, she received a lukewarm round of golf-clapping.  And the poor thing slunk back to her seat.  Heh.

"Shadow people" don't exist?  Funny, I thought I was being watched by shadow people while I was watching Skinemax a few times.

Who was it then?

Also, I got an up close look at Barky's autograph on the poor sailor's portrait.  Jeebus, the jackass scrawled across the whole thing, narrowly missing the young man's face.  What a turd.

I am totally in love with Coast to Coast. It's hardcore crazy.

Plus, it's a great conversation starter. Try saying something like "I listened to a show on the radio last night that featured a time traveler/ alien" to an acquaintance and watch their reaction. Pure gold.

Plus, once and a while they will have a normal guest on. Of course, they're pretty dull....

A dug out bowl shaped pit around 3 feet deep & 25 feet wide.  Roll out as much 55 gallon drums of comtaminated stuff as you can find. Oil, jet fuel (JP4), paint thinner w/all kinds of chips in it, plus anything else liquid...minimum 10 barrows, and set it on fire.....when it gets nice and hot, the civilian fire chief says "OK GUYS, no foam today, we are going to put it out water mist only." (The water had to be drafted from a salt water bay.) Took IIRC about 45 minutes and two injured fire fighters to get it out. The local libs (paper) were screaming about a bomber being blown up that had a nuke on it.. The Radar people said the cloud went up to 15 thousand feet. Good times, good times.

We have a mini-Weber propane grill and dozens of empty cylinders.

Refill them, and then use them to power a Tippmann C3 propane powered paintball gun.  It's super efficient, and VERY loud.  50,000 shots per tank, and the loudest gun on the field.

You can imagine this being Seattle, how many moms of boys I encounter who proudly tell me they donÂ’t allow any weapon type toys in the house. And then I watch as their son fashions a stick, or their Lego bricks, or even the food they are eating into an object shaped curiously like a gun and then proceed to make little shooting noises.

Yes, it is very tempting to say back to the smarmy moms “and how’s that working out for ya?”

Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at March 13, 2010 03:23 PM (RZ8pf)

PGIS you can relate this to your smarmy moms:

In our local (Houston) YMCA Indian Princess/Indian Guides program, we Dads take our grade K-5 progeny to the YMCA camp and let them shoot .22s  at targets of sharks, pigs, snakes, dragons, etc.  Best part is the 20 min of gun safety instruction and demo prior to stepping on the range platform.  It includes some deadly serious Q&A for a few minutes (Dads are not allowed to call out any answers, but can discretely whisper a choice word or two as clues), then it's plinking away at their chosen target.  All the kids end up getting at least one bullseye thanks to the asst rangemaster who quietly retires to the gun shed when the kids start shooting.

Ever see the pure excitement in the eyes of a 5/6 yo pointing out the bullseye on their paper target after shooting their first time with a rifle nearly as long as they are tall?  Priceless.  They can't wait to go back the next year and by the time they are in 4th and 5th grade they are shouting out the correct answers to the gun safety Q&A.  Double priceless.

For some reason, the .22 range is the most popular activity at camp (second is the archery range where the Dads put $1 and $5 bills on the bullseyes to help improve the kids' aim and concentration.  Works every time!)

BoB was produced from Ambrose's book based on real paratroopers. The Pacific is a "composite" of different stories and projected onto fictional characters. With lots of racist Americans joyfully killing Japanese soldiers who all come across as Mr Miyagi. You'll probably get more realism from old McHale's Navy reruns judging by the way Hollywood shits on America at every opportunity

Judging from Hanks comments this week, I'd recommend spending your time doing other things.

If the ratings are bad, look for a "clarification" from Hanks next week, along with an "out of context", and "nobody supports the troops more than me" spin

438 Recycled from Free Dominion, February 25, 2009:

I'm reminded of a tale from that Island I grew up on, off the coast...

Back in the mid-nineties, the County Commissioners ( yes, we called them “Commissars,” with much the same disdain towards them the wards of the former Soviet Union showed towards theirs... ) decided, in their infinite wisdom and power to levy fines and taxes, to “introduce recycling to the Island...”

Heretofore, the garbage trucks came to your house or business one a week, but in the Name of the Great God “ecology,” henceforth <I>you</i> would gather up your wet trash ( garbage ), your dry trash ( papers ), and all that good stuff that was worth money ( aluminum cans ), and hie yourself to the old Air National Guard Armory at the airport in the center of the Island.

There, you would separate this stinking pile into groups that went into color-coded bins, to be moved by those formerly convenient Garbage Trucks, to the mainland, where these offerings would be laid upon the Altar of the Great God Ecology, and be “recycled...”

And all in the land were self-righteous and smug, that They Were Doing A Good Thing, For The Environment...”

Now there's a little background you need to know--

1)- that the county had, formerly, only one designated landfill, where trash was hauled, on Cate Road, and it was a vasty, and smelly pit, filled with the detritus of the multitudes of The Island, the other islands, and the mainland, where a bulldozer labored day and night to bury the stuff.

2)- many who live in this area are old, or disabled, or retired, and lugging, and separating this “stuff” was a mighty task-- I well remember seeing the lines of seniors, some on canes or in walkers, struggling to get their trash out of cars, across the parking lot, and in to the correct bins.

And yes, there were fines and penalties if, Woe! You put the wrong trash in the wrong colored bin...

3)- but some- my own Evil Right-Wing Self included-- viewed all this “with great suspicion” ( to quote the Sage Winnie Ther Poo... ) and wonder if we really were Doing The Right Thing for the Great God of Ecology, or were we just being jerked around by a pile of self-righteous bureaucrats...

Well, Lo! One day a reporter happened to act on this suspicion, and actually follow the line of garbage trucks making the pilgrimage to the Great God's Altar, and what did he find?

The same pit...

The same bulldozer...

And all that carefully and painfully separated trash...

going in to the same borrow pit. Just like it always had.

No recycling...

Yes, he took pictures and wrote a story, and yes, every sitting Commissar lost his/her seat in the next election.

Two contrasting recycling tales:

1) At my primary residence (IL): The local service has stopped even requiring that recyclables be sorted, just separated from the trash.  They then come by to pick the trash up first, then make a second pass later in the day for the recyclables.  Same truck each time. Chance these two loads are ending up together in landfill: 100%.

2) At my secondary residence (WI): Two recycling bins are provided - one for containers the other for paper, to picked up on alternate weeks along with the trash container.  Specialized truck comes by for one pass but does empty the containers into separated sections.  Chance this is actual recycling: 50%.

Unfortunately, I pay for two services with a combined 25% chance I'm actually recycling anything but I suspect a bunch of "good" people are feeling all warm and cozy about it..

Occasionally played with friends neighbor who cheated.
Short par 4 he sliced into the shit, right of the green
there's a stone wall there
We're looking for his ball and I step on it in the tall stuff
He at that moment claims to find it in a decent lie some twenty yards behind us
I palm his ball
We all chip up and I offer to pull the flag
As I do I exclaim "There's already a ball in the hole!" and with a little prestidigitation extract his errant ball from the hole
He never played with us again

565 The only real material that is worth recycling is METAL. Because melting down aluminum cans and scrap steel is cheaper money and energy wise than mining new ores that have to be refined at a great cost.

Paper is pretty much pointless as paper is made from the clippings and scraps from farmed trees grown for lumber. Recycling paper requires a refining process that involves many harsh chemicals.

Landfills are recycling in their own right, when that trash decomposes it creates methane gas, which is then extracted and sold off to energy companies. Landfills create RENEWABLE ENERGY.

Penn and teller did a show on how much BULLSHIT recycling is on their show Bull$hit.

Environmentalists were butthurt because Pres GW Bush wanted to allow a native American tribe to build a landfill on their land. The freaked because it wourld hurt momma earth and Indians are supposed to be all nature loving and crap. only dreadlocked white trustfund babies now more about being an Indian than and actual Indian.

573 there is no such thing as a "moderate liberal". Posted by: Unclefacts, Purveyor of Fine Meteors at March 13, 2010 05:57 PM (erIg9) True enough, but I mourn the loss of *honest* liberals. When I lived in New York Senator Moynihan (G-d rest his soul) was the only Democrat I ever voted for. He knew right from wrong, he wasn't afraid to tell you what he thought, and because of that I trusted his judgement- which in the final analysis is the only reason to vote for a legislator.

There's a simple test.   I take a trash bag full of whatever to a recycling plant.  If they pay me enough for my gas, time, and effort --- it should be recycled... because they want it bad enough.  If they don't; I won't waste my time doing that again.

I don't use aluminum cans enough to justify keeping them and making a trip; but if I did they'd qualify.  Nothing else I use on a regular basis is worthwhile when I'm done with it.

James Brown's daughter has claimed the singer's body has gone missing from its crypt.

LaRhonda Pettit, 48, alleges the body of Brown, who died in December 2006 aged 73, is being hidden to prevent a full autopsy being carried out.

Ms Pettit said the official cause of death, which was said to be a heart attack brought by pneumonia, is not the real reason behind the Godfather of Soul's passing.

Them Crazy Goats is almost everywhere.  I've hunted them with Stick and String in the Trees of the Bull Mountains!

But they are all over the Eastern Half of the state.  I have found that Antelope are the finest eating of the plains game animals.  Regardless of Age or Sex.  You just have to shoot them right, skin them immediately and cool them as fast as humanly possible.  You can't shoot one after 11:00 am and before 4:30 pm if'n ya ain't got a Freezer, or Cooler of Ice handy...provided you want to eat it.

We pay like $14.00 bucks ea. for Doe tags.

648 I work for a "green" company. We literally have recycle cans EVERYWHERE. Each with a different colored bag. It is in-fing-possible to find a regular trash can. The guy who is in charge of picking up all the recyclables is my friend. He collects all the recyclables and takes them to the landfill. We get an ISO400 certification for this. I work in Yellowstone National Park. If this place can't or won't do it, no one else can or will. And besides, recycling is about the gayest thing a man can do.

It's funny, especially since it proves some white people can dance. Also thought it was ironic because the wedding took place in a Methodist, Episcopalian, or Lutheran church, all denominations having a greater sense of solemnity during their services. Also think it's great that the bride (a former dancer) wanted something like that & her friends & family went along with it. It's cute.

Am I deemed a heretic because I don't like the Deschanel sister's acting?

I don't care if they act.  I just want to watch them slowly eating ice cream while sunbathing.

750 742 Flogging Molly?   What kind of band name is that?

At least it's not as crude as the South Park band "Fingerbang".

Now I had to go look it up--dang it!

[Vocalist] King stated that the band's name comes from the bar (Molly Malone's) that faithfully supported the band from the very beginning, "We used to play there every Monday night and we felt like we were flogging it to death, so we called the band Flogging Molly."

Bleed some, or never jam the steering wheel all the way to either side.

Thank ya. If I were smart I would have consulted the Haynes manual that's sitting on my back seat before I added the fluid in the first place.

753 Okay Emily's acting might be okay, but I don't really like the Bones shtick.

She's really stiff in Bones. I can't tell if it's her acting or her character. Or both. I liked Zooey in Elf.

754 #755 :thinks about it: Oh, I get it. My friends say I'm platinum blonde when it comes to common sense.

It's not always easy to get all the nooks and crannies of a statement when it's read from an Internet board, so you can be forgiven for that one (but just this once).

/The love letter thing...well, even I have to admit it's charming, especially in the age of the e-mail.  Hopefully you'll find somebody worthy enough to send one to soon.

It's also difficult to determine inflection unless you use bold, underline, &/or italics. But I just didn't get it.

That's a thoughtful thing for you to say. Thank you, & same to you.

Wow, looks like IÂ’ve missed a good time this afternoon. IÂ’m all dressed up in my purple party dress and am off to the auction. Hopefully some of you will still be up on the ONT when I get back.

This is the first time IÂ’ve gone to an auction and canÂ’t drink copious amounts of the free booze. Sigh.

When you recycle, you are providing free labor to the industry that makes/recycles each given material.  This labor is not only provided by you free of charge, it is mandatory in many areas -- and enforced by the government.  Moreover, it is the MOST inefficient kind of labor imaginable: composed of annoying little bits and pieces of work done by EVERYONE.

Or perhaps you think American industrial technology is not up to the task of mining landfills and neatly, efficiently, and cheaply separating various materials for recycling?  Do you not know what technology is required to separate ore from rock, concentrate it, and refine it?  And that's AFTER mining that is infinitely more difficult than mining fully refined and easily seperable aluminum cans (or whatever) from a loose pile of trash would be.

775 Leon Kaplan, aka, The Motor Man, saw the trucks mixing everything together. He investigated and found out that the trucks are broke a good percentage of the time and everything was thrown together. Leon's gripe was why do we have to separate then? My gripe is that those stupid containers that are so large and that they stick you will the bill are ugly and take up too much space on your property and too much space on the street.

Getting back to the article at hand, is recycling a waste of time and energy?  We hear of a child being run over by the recycling truck at least once a year.  Imagine if this was a privately owned ice cream truck.  Would there be an investigation?  Would they be closed down as too dangerous?  The recycling program for most cities is a government make work program.  Provides jobs and union employees for a pretend problem, gives elites an aura of self satisfaction due to their participation in this make believe problem and continues the religion of man being in charge of nature.  The first time I became aware of this was after reading the great book in 1989 called “Trashing the Planet”  by the wonderful governor of Washington state, Dr. Dixie Lee Ray.  They didnÂ’t always elect moonbats.
