As for Hamilton, working from memory here from a book I read several years ago that was a history of the writing and the meetings, Hamilton was not much more than just another delegate and there mainly because he was a personal friend of George Washington.

Madison was probably the most influential of the delegates after the initial start using the Va Plan which he wrote.

Not really. The Federalist Papers were actually propaganda leaflets designed to alley fears in NY State of the Constitution. The ones written by Hamilton gave "his" interpretation of what the Constitution did and its limitations. They were written and slanted in a manner to influence the NY legislature to vote yes for ratification.

On top of that most of the fears regarding the constitution have been shown to be justified and the "protections" described in those papers have turned out to be illusory. 

The anti-federalist papers have turned out to be right on the money.

Having just exhausted Ron Chernow's tome on Alexander Hamilton, put to rest any notion that Madison was the primary author of the Constitution.  Hamilton was instrumental in drafting quite a bit because at the time of the formulation, Madison was already drifting into more of the Republican camp which favored improving the Articles of Confederation by way of strengthening the legislature who would oversea an executive role as against the introduction of a strong Executive which was favored by Hamilton.
Upon adoption and the election of Washington with the selection of Hamilton to Treasury and Jefferson to State, Hamilton ran rough-shod over the Republicans and established the notion of the strong Executive branch managing operations based upon the legislative framework which is why Madison finally split into the Republican camp with Jefferson.
That and the Republicans headed up by Jefferson were in fact quite devoted to aristocratic/autocratic rule rule of fiefdoms (the states) and slave-owning pricks to boot.
The bastard Hamilton realistically noted that some people were in fact better than others and favored more of a responsible meritocracy that allowed the maximum number of people the greatest available freedom.
As such, history as probably told by a) the winners and b) ancestors of dolts like Parker, remembers Jefferson as a generous man of the people and Hamilton as the parsimonious stuck up prick.
