Saturday Morning Stupid: What's Charlie Crist Doing?
— Dave in Texas

Nothing.

He's ending his term as Florida's chief executive with little fanfare, and a handful of empty, meaningless gestures, including an odd grant of clemency for Jim Morrison's indecency conviction.

In his final cabinet meeting Tuesday, Crist and Florida's governing board approved a biomass energy plant to be constructed near Gainesville and honored a Labrador retriever named Ace on his retirement from the state fire marshal's office after a long and distinguished career sniffing out accelerants.

The Florida mid-terms were a trifecta of BOOYAH. That slimeball Alan Grayson got his ass kicked. Allen West will be sworn into Congress this January.

And this tiresome, pandering jackass Crist got kicked in the junk so hard his political career is finished.

Good riddance.

Also, congrats to Ace on the retirement, and go easy on the accelerants big guy.

SATURDAY FOOTBALL BONUS: One college game today, Army-Navy at 2:30 EST. Navy's got a better record, but I gotta pull for the Black Knights.

It was a bipartisan-ish affair on Thursday night at Woolly Mammoth Theatre. Twelve female senators (three Republicans, nine Democrats) came to see Chicago comedy troupe The Second City perform "A GirlÂ’s Guide to Washington Politics," which includes a roasting of many female pols including Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin and Nancy Pelosi.

In attendance: Sens. Claire McCaskill, Olympia Snowe, Blanche Lincoln, Maria E. Cantwell, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Mikulski, Debbie Stabenow, Jeanne Shaheen, Susan Collins, Kay Hagan, Amy Klobuchar and Lisa Murkowski.

Ah, one of the best, yet most contentious, days in the Unknown household.  Our dream is to one day celebrate our anniversary taunting each other at opposite ends of the field.  Last year my husband super glued my work gloves closed in revenge for calling him at work every time Navy scored.  The year before that he put oatmeal in my riding boots as payback for the huge victory banner I strung across the front door.  It's our little way of saying "I love you honey".

We're a "mixed" marriage...hopefully in a few hours I will be sitting next to my lovely husband's co-worker in front of the sports bar's big screen while jeering at my lovely husband during the annual Midshipmen's romp over the Black Nights.  I will call up my two eldest here shortly and taunt them for a bit -- just to show I care.

Go Navy!

How to Tell the Difference Between the Branches of the US Armed Forces!

If you give the command "SECURE THE BUILDING", here is what the different services would do:

The NAVY would turn out the lights and lock the doors.

The ARMY would surround the building with defensive fortifications, tanks and concertina wire.

The MARINE CORPS would assault the building, using overlapping fields of fire from all appropriate points on the perimeter.

The AIR FORCE would take out a three-year lease with an option to buy the building.

Yep, the perfect scam.  If it remains steady then the measures are preventing it from getting worse.  If the globe actually cools some then the measures are working.  And if it increases then we need to do more.  Everything requires us to keep giving.  And since they just sort of fudge what the actual factors are its difficult to actually increase what we're doing and proving that it is not actually having much effect.  And if that is the case they'll just shift the "coming catastrophe" another decade down the road.

Take Poland Spring, for example. They produce obscene amounts of plastic bottles; have been doing so for years.

190 As I said on the ONT about the AP Cancun pack 'o Lies, they will just make up a bunch of shit and publish it. No worries from the MFM.

Underscoring what's at stake in the long-running climate talks, NASA reported that the January-November 2010 global temperatures were the warmest in the 131-year record. Its data indicated the year would likely end as the warmest on record, or tied with 2005 as the warmest.

Yeah, that "study" from the organization responsible for improving ties to Islam found 600°F temps in WI. IOW it is outright fraud. Of course AP conveniently forgets all the stuff that has come out PROVING what a fraud this is.

Warmest year on record when we had record cold winters in the Northern AND Southern hemispheres as well as record mild summers in the U.S.

UN climate meeting OKs Green Fund in new accord

Screwed again. The 3rd world commie leaders for life got what they wanted, another big handout from us.

The Cancun Agreements created institutions for delivering technology and funding to poorer countries, though they did not say where the funding would come from.

We know exactly where they expect it to come from but in order to try to sneak it past the Senate which would tell them "When it snows in Hell" the current occupier of the WH wants to keep it quite.

238 O/T: Petraeus Top Aide Marvin Hill: Troops Who Can’t Support Repeal of DADT Need to Get Out Troops who can’t accept the idea of overturning the ban on gays in the military should consider leaving the service, says a senior aide to Gen. David Petraeus. Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill tells TV One’s “Washington Watch” that he believes “the troops are ready” for the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. “If there are people who cannot deal with the change, then they’re going to have to do what’s best for their troops and best for the organization and best for the military service and exit the military service, so that we can move forward — if that’s the way that we have to go,” Hill says in an interview with Roland Martin, scheduled to air Sunday. Hill says it will be up to military brass to “set the tone” for the rank-and-file in accepting gay service members. ========== So on the one hand, they claim that repeal of DADT is necessary, because they lose good military members who are outed. On the other hand, they have no problem telling people who oppose repeal to leave the service. In other words, the claim that 'DADT needs to be repealed in order to prevent losing good service members' is a lie.

“The story line is how we worked with the Republicans and all that. But you know, we played political Kabuki for a year, had two government shutdowns; we can’t afford that now. The only reason we could do that is that the deficit was already coming down in a time when interest rates were the problem and the economy was coming back – people just didn’t feel it in ‘94.

We can’t afford that. We have got to pull together and both sides are gonna have to eat some things they don’t like because we cannot afford to have the kind of impasse that we had last time over a long period of time. We – we don’t want to slip back into a recession. We gotta keep this thing going and accelerate its pace. I think this [the current agreement] is the best available option.”

289 The players choose a unit to represent while playing. Some may aspire to be in that unit (they won't get their first assignments until next semester), some may have some emotional attachment to it, or they just might like the way the patch looks. I forget when they started doing that, I think it was in the 90s - maybe 89 for Desert Storm?

304 Vic - some of them might be prior service but that's fairly rare for a footballer. Unit patches are not earned. The Army football uniform is not an official "Army" uniform - you won't find it in the uniform regs. There is no doubt some letter from the Pentagon that authorizes the display of the unit patches on the football uniform.

Wish I would've mentioned this in the Thanksgiving thread we had for service members, but today I attended one of the most emotional military events I think any Moron would be honored to attend.

Wreaths Across America was held today in military cemeteries coast to coast.  One man in Mass. started with the idea of decorating the graves of our fallen military by using hiw retirement money to provide as many wreaths as he could afford, and it's grown to hundreds of thousands.  FOX News Sunday has done segments on the effort for the past few years, and they'll most likely run it tomorrow if they decide to for this year.

The cost of each wreath is $15, and next year's campaign starts June 15.  Tractor trailers deliver boxes of wreaths and volunteers place them on the graves of the fallen.  My friend and I knew we were in the right location when we heard the roar of the Legion's bikers rolling down the street.

The local boy scouts and girl scouts participated in the ceremony, which included presentation of the colors, a 21-gun salute, speeches and the acknowledgement of each branch of the service as well as MIAs/POWs from those who either represented or retired from each branch as well as one retired colonel who was held as a POW for years.

Sorry for taking up all this space, but knowing you guys, you might want to mark your calendars for this next year.  We had 400 wreaths to place at the cemetery we went to; we could've used about three times that, but it's a start.

Never heard of that but I guess it is possible. When I was on the Enterprise the only place you could get Enterprise shoulder patches was at the ship's store. So you would have had to be there to get one.

That being said, if I remember correctly my personnel file didn't list "Enterprise" patch either as a badge. Had all the rest though.

387 Three part test for entrapment:

- First, the idea for committing the crime came from the government agents and not from the person accused of the crime.

- Second, the government agents then persuaded or talked the person into committing the crime. Simply giving him the opportunity to commit the crime is not the same as persuading him to commit the crime.

- And third, the person was not ready and willing to commit the crime before the government agents spoke with him.

All of the recent cases fail the entrapment test on the first score because the "muzzies" were actively planning the job before the FBI entered the picture.

Also fail on the other two. As the FBI said in the first case in NY, he had ample opportunity to back out at multiple steps along the way.

392 @404: See, I'm not bothered by traditional "entrapment" arguments because - obviously - anyone that can be convinced by undercover FBI agents to kill is best taken off the streets. And I even get that arrests such as these may well make it harder for real Al Quaida to recruit because their potential mark can never be sure if the guy approaching him isn't really an undercover federal agent. BUT - I do wonder if we're not spending too much time going after potential domestic terrorists and missing the real plots out there. So far, I guess not - there haven't been attacks. But that can change in a heartbeat.

In 1996, you know who was the guy who was a fiery speaker that revved people up at speaking engagements? Alan Keyes. I was mesmerized by him. In South Carolina, all the candidates were speaking at a thing - he was late by 45 minutes, the whole crowd waited for him. But in the end, didn't work out so well. Saw him on CSPAN with a crowd of about 20 people in I think the 2000 campaign, and he said, seriously, that we should use military force to invade Panama and take back the Canal. I forget whether that was before or after he called the Republican Party racist.

One person has been killed and two others injured as two explosions rocked the centre of the Swedish capital, Stockholm, police say.

A car blew up near the busy shopping street of Drottninggatan, and another explosion hit nearby minutes later.

A man's body was discovered after the second blast.

A police spokeswoman, Petra Sjolander, said the car contained gas canisters and that the cause of the explosions was being investigated.
