ha - this is funny - so in the senate campaign in connecticut, of course the Dems are taking the politically expedient holier-than-thou attitude when it comes to WWE - "it's shocking! it's degrading!" they downright sound like church ladies. their hypocrisy for purposes of political convenience is just funny.
so, just to review: to show simulated sex with a corpse on a WWE program, that's "awful" and "terrible" and "wrong"
but: to show simulated sex with a corpse at an art show after receiving a NEA grant, that's "enlightening" and "provocative" and "intellectually stimulating"

although, the mischievous part of me says, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. if the Dem Congress can dictate state-level funding for education, why can't the future GOP Congress dictate state-level funding for whatever based on, say, oh I don't know, some state's predilection for sanctuary cities?

If the main or only reason that blacks vote overwhelmingly Democrat is that they believe that it is the only party that considers their interests and race is (or nearly is) everything... maybe there is a crack....
Has anyone studied the effect of illegal immigration on the job market for blacks and other generally lower-income groups? My guess is that it depresses wages which is not good for many black households. If this can be shown, it would be a really good idea for everyone involved (except the Democrats) to push this issue. We have not been able to "reach out" to blacks and overcome the idea that Republicans have anything to offer, despite being more aligned on many social issues. We need to break this overriding idea that only the Dems can "take care of" them.... Are the Dems replacing blacks with Hispanics? Hey... if racial divisiveness is the Dems bread and butter, it can and should be turned against them.

This is from The Hill:
Gibbs: White House economic team exhausted after past 18 months By Sam Youngman - 08/07/10 06:00 AM ETPresident ObamaÂ’s economic team is exhausted, according to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, and that is one the reasons Christina Romer announced her departure Thursday.
Gibbs dismissed reports that Romer, the outgoing chairwoman of the president's council for economic affairs, was leaving because of conflicts with Larry Summers, the director of the National Economic Council.
The press secretary told The
Hill on Friday that Romer and the rest of the economic team have worked
the equivalent of six years during the 18 months theyÂ’ve been in
office, and Romer wanted to return to her normal life.
-----------
Which is offset by their boss working the equivalent of 2 days in 18 months.

Honestly, the version that the Germans who were present give is compelling. Basically, an armored column captured a bunch of GIs, left them poorly guarded, and it turned into a fistfight/escape attempt by the Americans. One guy even said the Germans took casualties, but of course those bodies were retrieved. At the trial, a big deal was made of the German "take no prisoners" order. The defendants said "Of course we don't take prisoners. We're an armored unit. We send POWs back for the infantry to handle".
Also, it appears that the treatment of the defendants prior to trial was *ahem* less than exemplary at the hands of the Americans.

Agreed, it is complete bullshit.
This stunt by Congress shows how the relationship between the federal gov't and the states has been skewed and turned into that a lord/serf. If the feds can discriminate against Texas for trying to reassert their Constitutionally-given duties, who's next? AZ for their immigration law? VA for challenging Obamacare in court? MT for challenging the Commerce Cause and federal regs RE guns and their ammunition?
Also highlights the challenge of the States regaining their rights, as too many states will take the easy route and not challenge the feds when they wave "free" federal money at them to influence their behavior. This isn't a new problem, but the progressives in Congress want to up the ante. It's time they were stopped.

What it had was funding allotted to all the States PROVIDED it was used only in schools which were "historically underprivileged" and it could only be used to permanently hire new teachers and principals.
So what you got was permanent positions in urban minority schools in the same manner as Detroit. You had to bring in new NEA union teachers who became unfireable and another permanent budget drain.
This was a clear payoff to the CBC and the unions. Several States tried to get out of this including SC. The FDR legislature here voted to force Sanford to accept the money. He vetoed that, they then overrode the veto. Now we are in a budget mess and they want to raise sales taxes AGAIN.
I hope Texas sues.

"yesterday, the United States Senate actually voted to single out Texas to send a message that it better get in line."
If Perry weren't so dead set to either be king or run for potus, he'd truly prepare considerations for the State to prepare for future necessity to maintain sovereignty via the Republic of Texas renaissance. It isn't as if sovereignty requires a state to secede from the union; rather, the federal Marxists have begun to demote Texas from statehood, as with AZ and LA targets.

Prosecutor Jerry Peace said 19-year-old Gregory Collins was indicted Friday for murder, desecrating a body and possessing a weapon during a violent crime. Peace said it becomes a case on the active docket.
That by itself should preclude the ability of the DOJ to advance a Hate Crime charge.

No. You misread.
Why should secession necessarily accompany a state's maintenance of sovereignty with states rights under the US Constitution within the union?
Why affront the union declaring secession when, indeed, it is the union cutting you off?
Rather, it is the right of every state and the duty of the body of states to maintain on the state level sovereign status, despite what Marxists attempt to usurp from the federal level.
You may recall that the Republic of Texas was only a temporary fix awaiting statehood within the USA. You may also recall that Sam Houston was four square against Texas seceding and joining the Confederacy.
But for any state to have what it is granted constitutionally, that state ALONG WITH THE OTHERS must practice its rights. "Use it or lose it" as the expression goes.
/Why the Perry jab? Because Perry, NOT Debra Medina, toyed with secession in order to play the Tea Party gathering in Austin. That resulted in the MSM smearing of the State. And then through whole cloth neoconservative sponsorship, juxtaposing Perry's irresponsibility onto Medina's Libertarian Republican Tea Party campaign to govern Texas. So far as his saving grace goes, Perry's only strength distinct from GWB as a potus candidate is the claim to fiscal conservatism. But still, Perry's economic decisions ALWAYS have their own kick back structure to be understood after letting naivety go.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Ten members of a medical team, including six Americans, were shot and killed by militants as they were returning from providing eye treatment and other health care in remote villages in northern Afghanistan, a spokesman for the team said Saturday.
Dirk Frans, director of the International Assistance Mission, said one German, one Briton and two Afghans also were part of the team that made the three-week trip to Nuristan province. They drove to the province, left their vehicles and hiked for hours with pack horses over mountainous terrain to reach the Parun valley in the province's northwest.
Nuristan, is a region in Afghanistan embedded in the south of the Hindu Kush valleys. Its administrative center is Parun. It was formerly known as Kafiristan (land of the unbelievers) until the inhabitants were converted at swordpoint to Islam in 1896 which brought light (nur) to the area. Until the 1890s, the region was known as Kafiristan (Persian for "Land of the non-believers") because of its inhabitants: the Nuristani, an ethnically distinctive people (numbering about 60,000) who practiced animism, polytheism and shamanism.
In actuality the European appearance of the locals is due to much earlier Indo-European migration. People of these regions are actually direct descendants of ancient Iranian/Persian tribes who migrated away from the Indus River valley due to the drying up of the river. Their Nordic and Aryan features are a result of not mixing with Arab, Mongol or Turk blood with almost identical DNA to north western Iranians who also have maintained their Aryan features.
Nuristan was the scene of some of the heaviest guerrilla fighting during the 1979-89 invasion and occupation of Afghanistan by Soviet forces, an area now absorbed by the Taliban. Nuristan is one of the poorest and most remote provinces of Afghanistan.Since Nuristan is a highly ethnically homogeneous province, there are few incidents of inter-ethnic violence, though inhabitants do feud. Due to its proximity to Pakistan, many of the inhabitants are actively involved in trade and commerce across the border. The population of around 300,000 people is 70% Nuristani and 30% Pashtun. 30% of the population speak Pashto and 55% speak Nuristani languages.
Pashto belongs to the Eastern Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian language family. Pashto also known as Afghani, is an Indo-Iranian language spoken primarily by the Pashtun people in Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan, as well as by the Pashtun diaspora across the globe. Pashto and Dari are the two official constitutional languages of Afghanistan. Pashtuns played a vital role during the Great Game from the 19th century to the 20th century as they were caught between the imperialist designs of the British and Russian empires. For over 300 years, they reigned as the dominant ethnic group in Afghanistan with nearly every ruler being a Pashtun. More recently, the Pashtuns gained worldwide attention during the 1980s Soviet war in Afghanistan and with the rise and fall of the Taliban, since they are the main ethnic contingent in the movement. Pashtuns are also an important community in Pakistan, where they have attained the presidency, high positions in the military, and are the second-largest ethnic group.

The Obama Administration's unwillingness to arrest and to prosecute Julien Assange is somewhat reminiscent of the Carter Administration's feeble-to-virtually-nonexistent efforts to free hostages in Iran. Both administrations have been weak and incompetent, comprised entirely of loonies..
Eric Holder won't make any effort to punish Julien Assange, but he didn't hesitate to file a lawsuit against Americans .
We now have the sleaziest Congress and the sleaziest presidential administration in the history of this country. Democrats have become this country's worst enemies.
