— Ace I sort of don't even think this is worth noting, as these stories keep popping up, and we now know that virtually everyone is related. (Well, everyone, really, if you go back far enough; but virtually everyone is related just within a thousand years.)
Genealogists said Friday the Democratic president and the newly elected Massachusetts senator, Scott Brown, are 10th cousins. The New England Historic Genealogical Society said Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, and Brown's mother, Judith Ann Rugg, both descend from Richard Singletary of Haverhill, Mass.
He died in 1687 at, for the time, the unusually old age of 102.
We didn't land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed... Oh wait, we did land on Plymouth Rock.
Also related: Hillary Rodham Clinton and George Stephanopolous. The article doesn't say how closely.
In case Allah doesn't know an angle for this story, here you go: Alpha Male, Plymouth Rock Era.

They were looking for slave-owning white peoples in Brown's ancestry (nevermind the slave-owning white peoples in Obama's ancestry). I bet that's going to be a big thing come the general election.

Well, for the love of all that is Holy in this life and the next, at least these "researchers" didn't find that one of Scott Brown's relatives owned one of Barak Obama's relatives at some point in the past. That's what they were looking for, though, the douches, you just know they were.
Unfortunately for the Race-Baiting-American Community, not a lot of slaves came to America from Eastern Africa, where Kenya is (though both pathetically and hilariously, a lot of members of the Race-Baiting American Community like to dress up in East African Garb and speak Swahili, an Eastern African language, during their retarded confabs), so not much chance that they'd find what they were looking for.
How funny if they accidently discovered that one of The Cock With Ears' distant WHITE relatives once owned one of Scott Brown's distant NOT-SO-WHITE relatives (if he had one such). I guess Chris Matthews might forget The Cock With Ears was black for awhile longer, then. Until he got out his Commander in Chief Dildo, again, that is.

Make more sense coming from Brown's proctologists' scatological analysis.

don't forget what my brother Billy said when some African American preacher named Carter said that he must be related to my family:

Who cares about this silliness?
What I want to know is how many degrees of separation are there between Scott Brown and Kevin Bacon?

Not metaphorically, not figuratively, literally.
And not that far back in the past either. Everyone who has any European blood of any degreee probably has a common ancestor in the late medieval period.

Io, Cincy, you have nailed it.
Without even counting serfdom, a large number of white persons were slaves. John Smith, founder of Jamestown, was an escaped slave.
Obama's ancestors were on the supply side of the slavery business. We had better never hear from him on this issue.

So, you are related to everyone alive before that point who has living relatives now, and, for that matter, everyone currently alive.
So, since we are all members of the Kennedy clan now, I'm gonna have a drink.

And if you go back ten generations, you have 1024 grandparents, not counting "inbreeding". That's a lot of cousins.

A couple of years ago I learned that I'm a distant relative of Ted Kennedy. Somebody gimme a drink!

First, a couple of technical notes: 1) it's "genealogist", not "geneaologist". 2) Some of the "math" here (and probably in the various articles mentioned) is a bit hokey. Some of it seems to presume, for example, that there are no "duplications" in a family tree - where the same person shows up in disparate (or not so disparate!) branches, as distant relatives invariably marry. Some of it ignores that the records have only survived for some families. Etc., etc.
But, on the whole, the story is meaningless, but a fun novelty. Harmless, as long as nobaody actually tries to read anything into it.
But it DOES tie into another thread here relating to Obama as a sort "black symbol" (that's not how it was put). Let us be reminded that as an American black symbol, he really stinks! To begin with, it's more accurate to call him "biracial" (vs "black") . But - more importantly - HE IS NOT A DESCENDENT OF SLAVES. At least not American ones, anyway (I couldn't tell you whether any of his ancestors were slaves in Africa).

To offer up my own example, I have a fair amount of my own roots worked out, and have checked vs. various top-ticket candidates for fun on occasion. I wouldn't have been surprised to find that I was related to Obama myself, but it turned out that no common ancestors showed.
In the previous election, however, John Kerry and Howard Dean both rang up as fellow descendants of Edward Griswold, an immigrant from England to CT in the early 1600s. In this past election, Sarah Palin showed up as being another descendant of this Griswold. On that side, Palin is a 10th cousin once removed of mine, but she's a closer relative to John Kerry (7th cousin, 3x).
Despite Kerry's Irish surname, he was 0% Irish. His family name was changed from a Jewish one, just a few generations back, in Austria, to help avoid persecution. His father's parents were straight off the boat, from Austria & Hungary. His mother was a Forbes, and 100% New England WASP.
I'm also a distant relative of FDR and US Grant, both through Simon Huntington (1583-1633), and of Lady Di (who had an American gt-grandparent) through John Gager (1620-1703). I expect such relations are common. Sarah Palin, for example, is also a distant relative to FDR and Lady Di, but in different ways.

"They were looking for slave-owning white peoples in Brown's ancestry (nevermind the slave-owning white peoples in Obama's ancestry). I bet that's going to be a big thing come the general election."
That is what they do when they cannot find anything of substance to complain about. None of us have any control over who we are descended from. Neither is it something that has any relevance whatsoever. Yet were they to find that he was the descendant of slave owners, they would raise holy hell over it and present it to the public as an accusation. They do this because they are sick evil bastards with no ground for valid complaint.
