3 Scott Brown loses in a close race. This is like a contender fighting for a boxing championship. He has to knock him out to win. Scott has to win in a landslide, if not, Coakley steals a close election.

Barry in a pointy hat, Coakley in a crystal ball, and the monkeys with purple SEIU t-shirts.

Posted by: grognard at January 13, 2010 11:42 AM (v0kvW)

14 @3-I am worried now that the SEIU is involved. They will bus in manpower to steal the election. I am sure Barack Obama put Mayor Daley's best boys on it. If there is one thing Chicago pols know how to do it's make elections work. If you live in Mass, and want to vote Republican, no sense sitting on your ass. You will have to work by driving fellow Republicans to the polls-telling them to go, and getting there yourself. If you are giving rides and someone is going to vote Democratic, leave them in the street. Have to be heartless when you a fighting slime like ACORN and SEIU.

19 17 - I don't think #3 was trying to be all that negative.  In fact, I find that statement pretty accurate.   He/she just didn't end it in "so get off your ass and vote!"  Saying it can't be close, and the witch might steal it, is really quite motivating, if you choose to read it as such.

How about getting off your negative ass and make calls for Brown from your home to ensure it isn't close.

I would love to see Brown win, but with all of Obama's agenda at stake, I have a feeling ACORN et al will be out in force.  (On the other hand, it is much easier to blame the other side than to govern, so the Dems might actually want to lose.  "Waah, those mean Republicans are stopping us again!")

Still, I think this election will make last Minnesota's look like a Cub Scouts' Soap Box Derby.  If Brown wins, or even gets within four points, I'll happily eat my words.

I'm so sick of the cheerleader squad who come out right before every election and think they 'hope' their way to victory. We're not gonna win until we fix the fundamental problems in the GOP.

And the same cheerleader squad will be here on 1/20 if Brown loses and they'll point their bony fingers at...the social conservatives for not voting for a pro-abortion candidate.

We're not going to win until we break this insane cycle.

Posted by: Butters at January 13, 2010 12:05 PM (z37MR)

40 Here's the thing to you Eeyores.  I've already done everything I conceivably can.  I've donated out of what meager amount of money I can spare, I got my dad to chip in a sick amount (he maxed out), I called my uncle (his bro) to GOTV in MA (mission accomplished), and now I'm phone-banking from Madison-frickin'-Wisconsin.  We've got a five day sprint to the finish line and we need to focus like a laserbeam on that finish line and not get distracted by daydreaming about notional Democratic iniquities.

Do I worry about us coming up short in this race?  Hell yes I do, in fact the hardened, cynical political veteran in me figures that's what will most likely happen.  But I don't let it slow me down now.  Especially because I seem to understand how important political OPTICS are more than the rest of y'all: if Brown wins, there is no way that Dems will risk ramming the bill through (either through ping-pong or reconciliation or whatever) before he is seated.  The nation would turn to damn near open revolt in that case -- you'd see crazy heretofore inconceivable shit like Feingold losing in WI, Murray going down in WA and Wyden taking a dunking in OR, as well as a 60-70 seat flip in the House if that happened.

In order to get the troops like us -- both in-state and out-of-state -- fired up, you need a relentlessly positive message.  Not one untethered from reality -- nobody thinks this is in the bag or even close to being better than 50/50 -- but one that says "fuck negativity, fuck talk about stealing elections or delaying seating or union machines, FUCK ALL THAT SHIT AND LET'S STAY ACTIVE AND MOVING.

We all know the score: it's Massachusetts, for god's sake.  We all know the stakes: the end of Obama legislative agenda, pretty much, and NOT just health-care (though that's huge).  Let's stop this nervous grannyish worrymongering and keep spirits high.  In the end, only the votes of MA residents matter.  But we can help that cause.  We already have (look at the moneybomb, holy shit!), but we can and must do more.

Let's take off and nuke this election from orbit.  It's the only way to be sure.

(And remember who this is coming from, for chrissakes.  I've normally been "EEYORE PANSY SQUISH #1" on this blog.  If I can throw off those chains, then nobody else has any fucking excuse whatsoever.)

Posted by: Jeff B. at January 13, 2010 12:05 PM (GhUHn)

41 Mass has always been such a "gimmie" for the dims that acorn might not have enough fradulent voter registrations in stock to steal the election. They need the registrations to get the absentee ballots required to steal the election

And here's the thing: even if you're convinced that Brown will fall short (hey, not unreasonable), a close race is STILL a huge victory for us.  As things stand right now, I think the worst case scenario is a margin of +5% for Coakley.  Which, in MA, is pathetic and a message to every Dem in a swing state/district.

69 I really loved Jeff's post up there and I wanted to quickly add - also for us squishy moderate Independent types, at least for me, you want to follow positive momentum, positive leaders. Happy Warriors, as they used to say. It's really hard sometimes to read this blog, for me. That might have come out wrong. But anyway, there are a lot of just ordinary people with a modicum of common sense and the deep belief in individual freedoms who WANT to find a way back to what America should be. This is probably not the place to look for that, I get it. But, where is? I'm not a social con, sorry to say, so where do I go? And I really don't think I'm an unusual person in the Northeast/Midatlantic. Be Happy Warriors! People will want to listen to you! They are desperate to and have been! Desperate enough to buy what that hack Axelrod was selling.
