Nevada has gone from Toss-Up to Lean Democrat; Pennsylvania from Lean Republican to Toss Up; Washington state from Toss Up to Lean Democrat. (Missouri went from Toss Up to Lean Republican, the sole happy change.)
Could just be some bouncing around, I guess.

Toomey has held a steady lead of 5 or 6 points over Sestak in Ras' polling over the last couple of months and can only benefit from Tom Corbett at the top of the ticket. At this point he still seems to have the edge in November.
Rossi is down two points in one poll after having led Murray by two points in two previous consecutive polls. Hardly panic time.
Nevada? Harry Reid hasn't broken, what, 45% support? His lead over Angle is only a couple of points after they've thrown the kitchen sink at her? I'm not too worried about this one.

But that doesn't mean they're gonna leave their houses to vote for the Republicans.
They need a reason.

Charles Cook said recently that he was seeing the numbers shifting DEM.
Cook, a partisan Democrat himself, sees what he wants to see. His race ratings have consistently and conspicuously ignored genuinely vulnerable incumbent Dems in House races and underplayed Republican chances in seats that are very likely, if not slam-dunk, pickups.

the problem w/ polling senate races is that they're unpredictable, in 2006 nobody thought the dems could take back the Senate, yet they won it
also, it's early in the race for some states, espc. FL which hasn't even had the primaries yet; and while I predict we'll take back the house w/ a 40-50 seat gain, I always thought the Senate would be missed just barely though I wouldn't be suprised if a pro GOP surge helped us to take the senate in the last weeks
WA, CA, & WI wouldn't be shocking to lose
FL & NV could be won but certain special things in FL & a bad candidate in NV (thanks purists) could make them go to the dems
the rest should be easy GOP wins, even PA & IL
remember to take back the senate your asking the GOP to basically win all of these races, pretty damn hard to pull off
plus if we take back the house but lose the senate, it'll lead to a stalling of the Obama agenda w/o a 1996 Clinton effect possible
Posted by: YRM (The Youngest Ace Reader) at August 01, 2010 03:11 PM (38UQ3)
Oh Dan...Dan, Dan, Dan...the jihadis aren't so stupid as to try to pull off an attack before the elections (that'll come afterwards more than likely -- goodness knows the Dems have not exactly worked overtime to stop one from taking place).
I suppose at that point we'll hear you squeal about how this is the fault of the GOP -- even though they've been out of power (completely) for the last 18 mos.

is this a joke?
1. we don't pray for the economy to get worse, we expect it because socialistic economics have a 0% sucess rate
2. we don't pray for a big terror attack, though I vivdly remeber the left wanting to lose in Iraq and now wanting to pull out of Afghanistan
3. traitors for disagreeing? you guys really can't stand how far you've fallen after the flukes that were 2006 & 2008, you can blame that on a party that did the very things that made us abandon Reps and lost them those elections...well except the Dems did all that and then some
Posted by: YRM (The Youngest Ace Reader) at August 01, 2010 03:14 PM (38UQ3)
Republicans need to start getting the message out in about two weeks(difficult though it may be)...right now there's a little lull in the news cycle (the Dems haven't got any crisis on their hands right now -- that the general populace is aware of).
And hate to say this: but in some of those races the GOP didn't exactly pick the most inspiring canidates (but I'm through beating my head against a wall about that). They will have to work doubly hard.

the GOP has the benefit of a rare election cycle that the public trusts them more then Dems and an election cycle that has the country PISSED with Dems, they are the opposing party of an unpopular President that keeps getting more unpopular, a Tea Party movement that is helping them (and I'd argue hurting them in some races too) and independents that feel betrayed by Obama; they need to take advanatge of this election, everything is in the GOP's side, fighting harder can help

Obama's poll #s change from day to day, and if he continues with cramming down America's throats bills and executive by-passes on regulations that the majority of Americans don't want, he won't be able to pull his ass back up in '12 for a second term. Right now, all I care about is stopping all of it. We can't allow him/dems to do any more harm to the country, or we may not be able to pull our way out of the decline.
My only fear is that if we take control of the House & maybe the Senate that he gets a pass like Clinton for a second term. But, of course, if we can retain control, he'll basically be a lame duck until he's gone.

Posted by: Dave J. at August 01, 2010 07:36 PM (DCQ0q)
exactly, the main reason Dems won in 2006 and 2008 was low Rep turnout, and in 04 Bush won because of a horendous candidate fieleded by the Dems, at least in 08 the Dems got a guy that suckered moderate Reps, plus you don't get approvals as low as Bush did w/o pissing of the base that your suppose to be representing
Posted by: YRM (The Youngest Ace Reader) at August 01, 2010 03:39 PM (38UQ3)
And Amnesty. Lefty imbeciles like erg love to point to Bush's low approval numbers, but they can't recognize that they only went low when Bush pissed off the base with amnesty and Harriet Miers. After spending and other squish failures, conservatives withdrew their support.
If Bush was an arch-conservative, shouldn't he have held the Republican base and stayed ~35%?

exactly, the guy was popular for 5 years, then katrina hit him, then 2006 came and he pushed amnesty and started pissing off the base, that's when things went downhill
and if Bush was so hated why is it he still left w/ positive favorables? Clinton meanwhile left w/ good approvals yes, but horrible favorables, basically the country knew he piggy backed off of Reps in congress
Obama btw hasn't just take a hit in approvals (68 to 42), he's also taken a HUGE hit in favorables (79 to 53)

The only thing that makes me think dumbass may have a second term, if we do take control, is that enough independents/rinos may be afraid of giving total control to any one party, especially after what the dems have pulled this go round.
Frankly, at this point, all I care about is stopping the madness & turning the country back in the direction it was meant to be. We can worry about '12 & odumbass after November when the lame duck session is in. That's when they're going to go buck wild, I think.

My dad used to listen to Air America sometimes, when they were on, as long as his blood pressure could stand it. It was never on here, so I only got it one time, while passing through El Paso (see what I did there?). It was a total joke. Their commercials were for the unions, mother jones, and dead air. I thought the dead air was a mistake, til it happened every break.

Any gains in the Senate, even the small ones which are fairly likely, are just that much more icing on the cake to reduce the likelihood of a filibuster override.

It was complex. On the one hand, there was the 'historical' nature of Obama, the MFM pushing him, unpopular Bush, the economy. Even then, McCain could have done something. He didn't campaign worth a tinker's fart, Hillary showed (for a while) that Obama's buttons could be pushed and he'd show the other face like in the Dr Who episode. He refused to turn Palin loose. That crap about taking a time out from the campaign to go to DC and help push TARP through. Despite all the things going for Barry, it was still winnable.

However, sometimes when I listen and read Our Own, I think they want to self destruct. And I am not talking about the Republicans in Official Positions - I am talking Conservative Pundits and Players.
Krauthammer and Hayes both missed discussing the ESSENTIAL differences between the original TARP Bailout GW Bush offered, with Democratic Partisans controlling Congress - and the massive TAKEOVER difference - including having GM avoid a genuine Bankruptcy for the sake of empowering UNION LABOR.
You just wonder sometimes if some do their homework.
Even Mrs. Palin's offering today on FOX with the ever becoming slanted Wallace, was truly lackluster.
Sure, "Cajones" is fun, but when it came to the entire interview - the basis - she was far from studied, inspired, reasoned, worthy, to make a serious impact. Sarah again looked like a stereotypical Amateur. She failed to answer the most simplistic questions, like why the Clinton TAX INCREASES were a disaster and must never be reinstalled, which helped grow the Recession of 2000.
She failed a very easy opportunity to explain how the Bush TAX Cuts (which Wallace labeled for the "wealthy") are responsible, for they grow the economy and thus raise revenues - lowering the deficits. This is simply Conservative "101" Policy basics, which everyone should know by heart by now. Mrs. Palin should be able to reference simple powerful facts which grow a healthy Free Economy which are essential for everyone.
Regretfully, Mrs. Palin had to rely on reading a prepared piece of paper (just like a teleprompter) - and play another stunt joke with writing on her hand. She simply didn't answer the question, but read a list of the amounts of taxation which we will encounter if the Bush Tax Cuts are allowed to expire. She blew it, and later predictably repeated overtly, the most simplistic talking points, like "common sense conservatism" and "we have to win".
It has been enough time since the Primary for the ICON to grow. and again, this was just not even close to the best offering - especially with the opportunity for so much AIR Time. I know the hype is thick, but they (especially BIG CELEBRITY Hockey Mom's) have to do far better than this.
For today, anyone on the fringe could be played by the 'tax cuts for the rich' garbage - with the feeble Palin response. Even Boehner and McConnell were more than able to answer the sophomoric partisan slant of Mr. Wallace later.

261 White Liberals LOVE Obama because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X.
Barry really is the whitest person in America.

The Democrats are still awash with money. Filthy dirty lucre.
Soros is still in there big time, I'm sure.
The Repubs must fight hard and smart with fabulous fresh ad campaigns.

Liberals hate success more than they love their children. Fill the blank with anything, it still fits.

Unfortunately I think the Democrats and their MFM colleagues have been pretty successful this summer with their Race Card playing and Tea Party demonizing. This has caused a general weakening in Republican numbers. I think they will bounce back as all this stuff fades from the headlines, but Repub;licans had better not get complacent.
I really don't see Joe Sestak winning in Pennsylvania. This state has never elected anyone as liberal as him to anything, and I sure don't see this as the year to be a big-spending, dovish liberal.

That said, I fully expect The Stupid Party to once again live up to its history of never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

At a social event today a dem/lib brought this up with "where is michael steele these days" as people were talking about who could ever even have the audacity to challenge BO in 2012, knowing they would lose mightily. Anyway, another lib/dem said " I thought the republicans have him sequestered somewhere so he doesn't do any more damage than he has already done". I then asked "why would you say that? Is that what the dems do? and he was saved by his GF coming over to grab him from our clutches so I never got an answer.

As I noted above, at this point in 1994 the generic ballot was essentially tied. This post has focused on the Senate, but the generic poll is reflected in House races. The House is going to be a monumental R wipeout: Jim Geraghty of NRO's Campaign Spot ID'd 99 seats that could realistically flip. In a wave election, competitive races do not break 50-50.
The Senate will be anywhere from a modest pickup to something approaching what happens in the House, most likely somewhere in the middle.

I love how on one hand the left spreads the meme that only the poor and uneducated join the military (minorities getting killed in illegal and immoral war!!) while on the other hand complain about how it’s not “diverse” enough.

GOP couldn't pour piss out of a boot with "reach across the aisle" written on the heel.
