— Gabriel Malor Shelby has a better poker face than McConnell:
Shelby, the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, said he wasn't optimistic that senators would reach an agreement to move forward with the legislation. He did express confidence that the Senate's 41 GOP members would stick together to block a motion to proceed to debate on the bill."I don't believe we'll have a deal today. I believe we'll have the votes this afternoon," Shelby said during an appearance on ABC when asked about this evening's vote on Wall Street reform.
Majority Leader Harry Reid scheduled the vote for this afternoon after 5pm Eastern.
One of the things keeping the GOP senators together may be the possibility of introducing their own financial reform bill. Drafted over the last few months, it will be difficult for Democratic screeches of "Party of No" to stick when the GOP moves on their own bill. Particularly after Obama rejected the Maine Sisters' attempt at bipartisanship.

Cuz they didn't say that during the healthcare debate, even though republicans had multiple alternatives.
Oh wait. They did say that.

And why aren't the Republicans screaming bloody murder for DODD of all people authoring this 'reform?'

I can't decide whether the GOP is incredibly stupid or completely spineless. I'm thinking it's both.
WHY THE HELL CAN'T WE FIND THREE DECENT SENATORS TO RUB TOGETHER?????

Just a lot of back and forth about who has the votes. All horserace, no hint of substance.
Way to win the hearts and minds of the people, GOP.

The Thingtm was packed with all kinds of stuff that no one knew about and even more features that will cause unintended consequences.
And now the Senate (with straight faces in both parties) are discussing derivatives and other financial esoterica as if they fully comprehend them.
I'd feel better if we just tossed the keys to a random homeless guy and let him drive the country for a bit (non-JOOOO, of course because we don't want to upset the Nastional Security Advisor).

Is more $$ for Ted Kennedy's shrine included in the bill?
How about another federal building for Bobby Byrd?

Which way is he looking?

In our dreams.
Ten pages. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that if it's longer than that, it's bunk.

#12. You're not.
#16 - How about we scrap the whole thing and admit that we already have "Regulations" (they're called "laws") against commiting fraud, etc., and start prosecuting people?

They should propose holding a summit on this.
At Dodd's illegally obtained, retainded and reported cottage in Ireland. That would be great television right there.

The Repubs had a very good alternative plan for HCR that they spent 6 hours on TV talking about. How did that work out?
I love that the Repubs are sticking together on this, but unfortunately until Nov3, 2010, they do'nt really have a chance of getting anything through.

Dick Shelby has been a Senator since I was in high school (I graduated in 1987).
Conservative or not it is time for him to go. I'm voting anti-incumbent this year unless the other candidate is simply a barking moonbat.

"Moderate" Democrat = moonbat in my book. Sorry, 28.
The only time I'm likely to vote dem is if it's someone they wish to oust from the party like Liberman (and I'd have to do some major nose holding to vote for him).

Let me see if I understand.
We needed 700 billion dollars for bailouts.
We needed 787 billion so our unemployment would not go over 8%.
No we need an OBAMA SLUSH FUND of 50 billion so as to not have slush funds to bail out?
Any Republican who votes for this should be hung.

How much you want to bet that Goldman Sachs was guilty of more regulation violation and criminal activity than Enron? I've yet to see a perp walk of a GS employee.
Goldman is almost certainly guilty of hiding the true quality of the financial instruments it was selling.

Bubbas don't care about anything but what you stand for. The Party of NO with 41 votes doesn't say much other than you've been so inept in the past making the case of what you stand for that the clowns on the far left can run circles around you...
