Senate Defeats Murkowski Amendment
— Ace

Corrected: I got this story wrong in every way possible; I thought the Amendment would give the EPA power to regulate CO2, so I thought Murkowski was on the wrong side of it.

I got it all wrong. Murkowski's amendment was to forbid the EPA from "adjusting" the law as written to give itself non-delegated power to do this, so the amendment's defeat represents a defeat for progress.

Apologies.

The Senate defeated this 47 in favor to 53 opposed, with six Democrats joining the R's.

1 Totally fucking wrong, Ace.  Murkowski's amenmend OPPOSED letting the EPA regulate carbon (duh, she's from the biggest oil-producing state in the US), and it FAILED.

Which means the EPA now will regulate carbon as a greenhouse gas.  In other words, the Senate SUCCEEDED in destroying the American economy today.

We're boned.

Exactly!  Really this is such a no-brainer.  I'm surprised it wasn't tucked into Health Care "Reform".  The death panels will be used to stop those folks who fall outside Ezekial Rahm's bell curve - the old, the young the non-productive from producing too much CO2 by denying them health care.  They are so sure that that way they can kill two birds with one stone - get rid of global warming and overpopulation.

Besides there certainly aren't any more important issues for Congress to be dealing with at the moment.

95 91 I just scanned and maybe I missed it but about two hours before the vote, Obama promised to veto it, if it passed. So it really didn't matter. As long as he's there, he's gonna tax the livin' shit out of us.

Right, for the glory of social justice and "fairness".

Posted by: Kratos (missing from the side of Mt Olympus) at June 10, 2010 06:42 PM (c0A3e) First google hit for "sustainable population" here says 3,540,636,150 sustainable at current average levels. IÂ’m going to put in the record, Madam President, a host of quotes from our national security experts who tell us that carbon pollution leading to climate change will be over the next 20 years the leading cause of conflict, putting our troops in harmÂ’s way. And thatÂ’s why we have so many returning veterans who want us to move forward and address this issue, so we can create those new technologies that get us off this foreign oil.

112 Yeah, I called the local office of my Senator after hearing the news and the staffer I got was just as astounded / alarmed as I was.

"We all thought that this was a no-brainer."

I'm not sure if my suggestion that my Senator make a project out of disbanding dangerous entities like the EPA, top priority once his party is back in power will be passed along, much less seriously considered but I did offer my opinion.

This is not idealistic principal.

This is not "slippery slope" alarmism.

I honestly believe that congress's abdication of it's own authority to the EPA today is an existential danger to this nation.

Tell me I'm overwrought.

The 6 Dems who voted with Rs to try and head off the eco-usurpationÂ…

Landrieu, Lincoln, B. Nelson, M. Pryor, Bayh, Rockefeller.

That bastard Webb must've switched his vote at the last minute.  Got an urgent e-mail from the local patriot group yesterday urging members to call Warner to join Webb in voting for the resolution.

If you missed Beck, he was scarier than usual, and he didn't even talk about this.  You know that commie gathering Botox was heckled at yesterday?  Well, the always-calming Van Jones spoke to the same group and told them everything was hunky dory, 'cause this is the week progressives start acting like progressives.  I'm thinking he meant this carbon-tax bunk.

Beck had old footage of the only FBI agent to successfully infiltrate the Weathermen and he reiterated that when he asked how the group was going to convince those who weren't with the program, they told him how they expected to have to disappear 10,000,000 to 25,000,000 as well as go the re-education-camp route.

Also, did any of you catch the Communist Party USA's 29th Anniversary Celebration?  No?  It was on C-SPAN.  They discussed their accomplishments in gleeful detail.

What would stop a Republican House from just passing an EPA appropriations bill that includes only a bare minimum of funding for whatever few actual Federal responsibilities they have and direct all administrative matters be handled by the Dept of Commerce?  If the Senate didn't act, amended it, filibustered it, or Obama vetos it - then let it die in it's entirety.
