It's not voted down; it's just set aside (tabled) for now--a parliamentary move.

Hispanics aren't in large numbers all that crazy about amnesty, but they perceive people who are anti-amnesty as being anti-Hispanic.

Consider the fact a massive budget was passed in the house yesterday and it includes the bush tax stuff.  And the same budget bill is now in the senate.

Once a budget is passed than "reconcilliation" can be invoked blocking a filibuster.

From a parliamentary procedure perspective....

"Tableing" is a good thing to do to stuff that you hate, and a lousyt thing to have done to something you like.

It takes a simple majority vote to "table" something.

It takes a 2/3 majority to get it off the table (according to Robert's Rules....Senate Rules may vary slightly).

So, essentially, it functionally takes a cloture style vote to get this turd back off the "table" for discussion.  Then it will take an additional cloture vote to bring it to a vote....

And, thus, it dies with this Congress.

It is as dead as this past Thanksgiving's turkey!

The GOP critters who are against this have said that fake GED websites are proliferating all over the web at the news.  There doesn't even have to be proof of a college course load.  What illegal is going to do two years in the service when they could pretend to be going to college?  The fraud will be rampant, and you can count on the socialists to speed up the process and be ever so helpful.

Yep, it's not as effective as having an actual majority -- but it cuts down the mischief quite a bit. You wouldn't necessarily kill the DREAM act, or card check, or a 12-month continuing resolution in lieu of a budget, or any other stupid nonsense.....but it'd focus them on just one.

I wasn't happy about putting his ass back in office this go around, because of some of the other crap he has voted on, but I did it anyway, against my better judgement, to be sure we had an 'R' in that seat.   Told them that, too.

I'm serious.   I think I'm more pissed, now, than I was before the election.   Those bastards better come through, and kill this fucking bill dead.

My fear is the Dems will combine Reid's Senate version of the Dream Act with the Budget bill that passed the House yesterday afternoon.

Now that we have a budget passed in the house it moves on to the senate. 

Reid forced a calculated vote on the Dream Act to allow cover for members voting against it as a stand alone bill.

If the Dream Act is combined with the Budget then the Bush Tax Rates, Reduction in SOS Taxes and Unemployment extension stuff will also become automatically combined into one big bill.

Then the Dems who may have voted No on the earlier Senate Dream Act will have cover to vote yes on a bill that includes it because it will contain the tax cuts for the middle class, unemployment extensions and payroll tax reductions.

And as far as filibusters are concerned an omibus budget bill inclusive of the dream act, the Reconcilliation Rule will be allowed.  Effectively requiring only 51 senators to stop a filibuster.

We are being played.

So they can pass it under the cover of Christmas darkness.

Guess who just voted for the Dream Act in the House?  Yep, Mike Castle - he was one of 8 Republicans who voted for it.

So the shoulda woulda coulda from the Great State of Delaware that would have been a more "prudent" candidate of choice for U.S. Senate vs. Christine O'Donnell voted in the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday in favor of the Dream Act. 

Nice.

I would ask for refugee status, but the test scares me.

I thought the rule in the Senate was that "reconciliation" can only be used once per year. Meaning they could not use it again until 2011 and the next congress.

Not to worry, the Dims have taken care of that.  The DREAM Act gives unlimited power to the Secretary of Homeland Security to grant illegal alien amnesty applicants "hardship" and "family unity" waivers if the illegals claim they can't comply with the Act's requirements. 

So any illegal who is too stupid to manage to stay enrolled in a community college (for 2 years) or a trade school (for one year) -- which is all the Act requires; no need to actually graduate, or to get satisfactory grades, all the illegal has to do is be enrolled (at U.S. taxpayer expense) and they qualify for amnesty-- can apply for a "hardship" or a "family unity" exemption, and JaNap can wave her magic wand and presto, the illegal gets amnesty, even though he/she has never stepped foot in a school, won't join the military, has a criminal record, doesn't have a job, etc.

But hey, don't worry!  Giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens (and unlimited chain migration rights to many more millions of  their family members) is going to reduce the U.S. deficit by bilions of dollars.  The CBO says so!  And we know they'd never lie to us!
