— Russ from Winterset I've been just as guilty as everyone else on the right of making fun of the whitewashing (so to speak) of the history of Senator Robert "Sheets" Byrd (D, Birth of A Nation), and I feel that its time that we give the dearly departed credit for being more than a caricature of racial hatred and discrimination.
Senator Robert Byrd was much more than a Klan Recruiter who fillibustered the Civil Rights Act. As a Klansman, he also hated Catholics. And Jews. And brown-skinned foreigners. And Asians. And "Race Traitors" who favored miscegenation.
Remembering him solely as an old man who was WAY too comfortable using "the N-word" on camera is selling him short. It would be like remembering Joe DiMaggio only as the guy from the Mr. Coffee commercials.
He was also a great baseball player.
And a Dago Papist.
RIP, Senator Byrd. If God has a sense of humor (and I pray that he does), he'll let the late Senator spend eternity as a backup dancer for MC Hammer or Biggie Smalls.

You have to give him credit, though. His influence among Democrats was strong enough to pull race-baiter/white-hater Osama Obama off the links to eulogize him....

True, he wrote articles for Sheet & Stream magazine for years. The guy was pretty sharp and pointed, just like the tip of his hood.

The right opposes civil rights? Really? Care to document that blather?
ROTFL.. .trolls don't document. They come through, leave troll droppings like that above and leave. If they do come back they won't "document" a thing, they'll just go off on another tangent, make a lot more statements that they can't back up with facts and then change the subject and make even more spurious accusations.
Pretty much troll SOP I'm afraid. They can't back their positions with facts, logic or proof. Best you'll ever get out of them for anything even remotely approaching "facts" to back up there ridiculous opinions is some "study" that was funded or performed by some left wing kook or libertard organization that isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

The man had a true sense of style and luxury. He always wore a 300 thread count sheet whenever he went on a lynching.

Its amazing how the MFM gives Byrd a pass on his so called "fleeting" association with the Klan, but let a Republican show up on the campus of Bob Jones University..................

For your reading pleasure, including some dirty Scandi football coach and Klansmen getting beaten before being put back on trains home from South Bend.

You know, Russ, I'd like to joke about this too. But I can't.
Watching the scene in the Senate, with that disgusting racist cockholster lying in state - as though he contributed anything to the progress of this country other than shoving his overfatted snout in the public trough to hoover money out of my pocket and slap his name on anything in West Virginia that stood still long enough - and his "colleagues" praising his name to the skies infuriated me.
Not one GOP heavyweight had the balls to call Byrd out as the Klan bastard he was. Not one had the stones to protest the idolatry of his memorial. Not one could be bothered to say anything when the N-double-fucking-ACP (the same people who practically chained James Byrd to Dubya's pickup) praised this asshole as a "stalwart supporter of the Civil Rights Act."
And these dirtbags not only expect us to return them to office, most of them will be returned to office.
Like I told my wife this weekend - this country is dead. Let the Obastard finish it off. Any country whose "elected solons" cooperate in the erasure of Byrd's past in the name of their precious "collegiality" and "comity" and "bipartisanship" doesn't deserve to survive. Either hang them all. . .or admit the American Experiment is no more.

Right here, almost painful to watch. Most people that crashed and burned this badly would be shown the door, never to be heard from or seen from again, that is unless you have a (D) in front of your name.

"After Robert Carlyle Byrd died on Monday while trying to struggle through yet another record-breaking term in the U.S. Senate, the obituaries either ignored or downplayed what made him interesting, his egomania and his racism."

How sweet a life was his; how sweet a death!
Living, to wing with mirth the weary hours,
Or with romantic tales the heart to cheer;
Dying, to leave a memory like the breath
Of summers full of sunshine and of showers,
A grief and gladness in the atmosphere.
This man was a minister to Spain, recommended by Daniel Webster to President John Tyler, who appointed him, and he assisted in negotiating the Anglo-American disagreement over the Oregon border that newly-elected President James Polk had promised to resolve. He was an executor of John Jacob Astor's estate and appointed, by Astor's will, as first chairman of the Astor library, a forerunner to the New York Public Library. The New York Knicks were named for him, as well as well as two streets in Bushwick, Irving and Knickerbocker Streets. His name is also frequently mentioned in Jospeh Heller's Catch-22 in a recurring theme where his name is signed by other people to documents which triggers several military investigations as to who Washington Irving is.
But none of this impressed pork baron, civil rights opponent and former KKK recruiter Robert C. Byrd, who changed the name of my school in the late 90's.

Also concerning Byrd's "white n***ers" video above, if his trainer would have just stepped in around the :50 second mark and tranquilized him, all of that embarrassment could have been avoided.
He should have known something was getting ready to go awry when Byrd all of a sudden got that glazed over look in his eye. Clearly not a professional.

Byrd's favorite restaurants were the Cracker Barrel, and Sambo's.

"In 1964, aged 47, he tried his best to defeat the Civil Rights Act by filibuster, speaking continuously for 14 hours. He opposed the 1965 Voting Rights Act and its renewal in 1970, arguing, of course, on purely constitutional grounds. He further distinguished himself as the only senator who voted against the confirmation of both Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas. One was a highly experienced liberal, the other an inexperienced conservative. All they had in common was skin colour [sic]."
Enough said.

At the one minute mark, he says: "My old mom told me, Robert, you can't go to heaven of you hate anybody."
That would be his old mom who died when he was one year old (if that) according to wikipedia.
