OK, you win on that point. I obviously won't rule out a ROP member, however, even if his name is Jihad al Jihad, he will still be painted as a "lone gunman" who has nothing to do with "Islam" and is, in fact, a "republican."
Actually, whoever does this will be painted as an angry white teabagger who is raging against, oh, I don't know, 'our pious black president who only wants the best for us."
Or some other cr@p like that.
And don't forget the calls for more gun control!

I drove past an elementary school in the SF Bay Area this AM and saw the little kiddies being paraded around by their teachers with their little signs: "Save Our School," "No More Cuts," that kind of thing. I wanted to stop and demand that one of the teachers give me five bucks for lunch - since he thinks he has a right to my money, I ought to have a reciprocal right to his, in the name of fairness and equality. I mean, if I have to pay taxes for his salary, then who's really working for whom?

The ones on the UC campuses? I like the douchebags who are claiming the cuts are "racist." Yeah, 40% of the UC population is Asian. Um, they're not really affected by the cuts because they scrape and save from birth to put their kids through college. It's called thinking ahead. Oh, the Asians get in on merit alone, not affirmative action. I hate lefty college students. Bunch of brainwashed douchetools.

46 Hell, I'd be for sueing them for child endangerment or something -- after all, the kiddies could get hurt carrying those signs. Bastiges -- what, too damn fat and lazy to carry your own protest signs? Oh, I forgot, only teabaggers are too fat and lazy to protest...
I'm waiting for our school district to strike. Right now the school board is tippy toeing around the idea of staff cuts and salary cuts -- but even with the cuts they've made and the ones on the table they're still something like 200K in the red (gah, don't ask). Didn't get the town to vote in a property tax increase like they wanted either. I've always supported education (seeing as that was my job and all), but teachers have become a lazy, greedy, and grasping group (not all, but a fair few too many) . So bring on some protests, bitches. I want to see some mayhem anyway...'cause I'm getting evil like that.

For what it's worth, I take the bus to the Pentagon every day to rise the metro into D.C. for work (and yes, part of my soul dies every time I enter this den of thieves).
The bus stop is literally less than fifty yards from the Pentagon entrance, with escalators leading down to the Metro lines to either side of the entrance. Most of the time, there's two guards (or more) right outside that entrance, with bullet proof stand-up shields nearby.
The guards usually seem to be carrying UMP .45 smgs and body armor.
Someone would really have to be an idiot to try to take on those guys.

She is so angry cause they are disrupting her campus but also because she says the state is on the verge of legitimate bankruptcy, they are paying everyone with IOU's that she said may or may not work someday and she is like, "sheeh, they should be glad the university isn't going to be totally gone and just pay the $500 bucks and shut up"

If you dodge the really bad indoctrination, a UC education is the cheapest in the country. It only cost me $14k for two years of UCLA. That's less than half of one year at Stanford or Harvard or any Ivy League. It's a fantastic bargain.
And if you do two years of community college, it's even cheaper. I remember when the community college kids were bitching when the price per unit went from $11 to $18. It's gone up to $26 now, but that's still pretty damn cheap.
No one is entitled to a college education. It is and always was a privilege.

98 Heh, just saw a young kid (who had to drop from college because he couldn't afford it) recently get hired by a local factory (one of the last remaining) -- was asked (after 60 days on the job) to work a 3 12's shift one week (only one freaking week!). His response: oh, no, I don't think I'm ready to pull that sort of shift yet...I mean, that's more work than they told me I'd be doing.
WTF?? (and why can't I have that damned job? 3 12's? shit, I'll do that every damn week if you want mofos). This, this is what is indeed wrong with our country -- too many goddamn slackers.

I hate what those bastiges have done to that department -- and it trickles down, all the way to kindergarten -- and the students are the poorer for it (so is society, but I digress).

I have a co worker with a son who is supposed to be applying for college next year. The other night, the math genius, figured out how much his parents would spend on his college education and presented them with a request for the money. It so freaked them out. The kid said that he could do more with the money than he could with a college education. apparently, using funds from his part time job he has been dallying in the currency markets and doing quite well. My co worker is still upset. we all sided with the kid and that made it worse.

There's certainly some validity to the skip-college approach, especially if the kid has found something he can do successfully already. The cost of a college education, depending on what kind you get and how much you pay, can wipe out any boost it gives your earnings for litterally decades.

You may very well be right, but so far I don't see anything to prove that he was, in fact, a libertarian. I see various data from his wiki page supporting the fact that he was a Truther and anti-Bush. In reality, he could have been a conglomeration of all of these traits. The only thing we can probably agree on right now is that he was a complete whackjob. What motivated him is still up in the air. It's just amazing how quickly the armies are out from both sides either trying to exonerate him from 'their side' or pinning him firmly on the 'other side.' It's still all speculation.
Posted by: Ozwitch at March 04, 2010 10:05 PM (J+Wr5)
The kook who flew his plane into the IRS building was a leftist. The professor who shot the other professors down in Alabama was a leftist. This guy, though, was apparently a libertarian. I have no idea if his politics played a role in his crime, but he was what he was.
I also suspect he was an anti-war type. First of all, his target was the Pentagon. Second, some of his Facebook friends seemed to be pretty rabidly anti-war. A case could be made that he was a left-libertarian, not a conservative libertarian. Perhaps we should begin making that case, before the mass media is able to define him as a "conservative."
Posted by: RJ at March 04, 2010 10:07 PM (ADbI4)
For example, I'm not a Christian. I have nothing against Christians or Christianity itself, I'm simply not religious. I have Christian friends. But if I get involved in a road rage incident with someone and run them over, and it turns out they are a Christian, then I can be painted as an anti-Christian nutcase out to destroy Christians, by someone simply doing what you did, looking up my profile on the net and drawing inferences. It turns out I ran the guy over because he cut me off and I got mad. Nothing to do with religion. You are, with motives that seem worthwhile to you, attempting to do the same thing to this guy before we know any better. If it turns out he's a libertarian and KILLED THESE GUYS BECAUSE OF IT, then it's bad for libertarians and probably bad for all rightwing politics because we know how the media works these days. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, that's all I ask. Fair?
Posted by: Ozwitch at March 04, 2010 11:06 PM (J+Wr5)
We are in an ideological battle with Marxists who have no problem whatsoever with lying, and doing so repeatedly, so long as it advances their agenda. If they win, we will wake up one day soon in a country that more resembles Chavez's Venezuela than Reagan's America. We cannot afford to play nice.
If it looks like the guy was a libertarian (and it does), then we have to deal with that reality, and then quickly come up with some talking points that will blunt the mass media's inevitable and predictable attacks. Ace and Gabriel are already doing that with a couple of their latest posts. So is Michelle Malkin. So is Patterico.
Still, I understand your points. Thank you for the civil discussion.
