— Ace That's what police say.
Shots were fired at the Pentagon early Tuesday, authorities said, striking a window of the building.Pentagon police spokesman Chris Layman said it's not known who fired the shots. Pentagon police officers heard at least five shots around 4:50 a.m., Layman added.
According to another Pentagon Force Protection Agency spokesman, Terry Sutherland, two bullets hit the Pentagon on the south side of the building -- one striking a window and the other hitting the building itself. This is an unoccupied part of the building that is being renovated.
Most of the time these things aren't terrorism. But, on the other hand, who thinks it's a good idea to shoot at the Pentagon? You would think a conventional criminal, or some guy obsessed with a girl that let him down, would realize there are probably softer targets than the headquarters of the United States Armed Forces.
If it is a terrorist, he's one of those Lone Wolf types, and a disorganized personality type (thank God). Because he's trying to murder a building.

Or the location was incidental- or, perhaps "peripheral" is a better term: that is, assuming this isn't a case of someone "shooting at" the Pentagon, then who/whatever he/she was shooting at just happened to be in the same location as the Pentagon. The shot-out window could have just been an accident.

I think that's the simplest explanation. A random criminal act with the Pentagon serving as the backstop.
There's not really anything near the Pentagon, it's not like Johns Hopkins and down in the 'hood. Rather isolated by freeway and such.

Since singer Susan Boyle (who professes being a virgin) has been on TV, there's been a marked drop in suicide bombings. Apparently many of the terrorists didn't realize what a virgin looked like and are taking up sniping?

Actually the Pentagon is a soft target protected by rent-a-cops. This was most likely a "driveby" and the perp will never be caught unless they have it on video.

1. When freedom of religion and the right for open assemblies of non-Muslim religious gatherings can be commonplace in the Islamic world.
2. When Muslim terrorists stop bombing churches in Iraq and stop harassing Iraqi Christians seeking the free exercise of their faith (particularly women).
3. When the governments of predominantly Islamic nations cease their policies of persecution of non-Muslim faiths (most notably IranÂ’s campaigns against its BahaÂ’i population and the state-sanctioned violence against Coptic Christians in Egypt).
4. When people in predominantly Muslim countries have the right to change their religions without the risk of being arrested, tried and executed for crimes against the nation.
5. When the governments of predominantly Muslim country outlaw school texts that slander Judaism and Christianity.
6. When Muslims stop killing each other under the pretext of Koranic principles (Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan).

Yeah, you probably couldn't find a safer target to shoot at - even a random gas station might have a security cop or attendant that might pop off a few in return.
Typical moonbat 'courage'
Ever wonder why there's no symbolic shooting of blank rounds at the local rifle range by anti-gun leftists?

I heard on the radio here that the shots were in the parking lot.
So hard to say, really, but I suspect that they weren't aimed at the Pentagon.

Probably a white guy in a white van. Er, I mean two black guys in a black car.
Maybe a tea partier angry about the health care bill? Or, ah, a Muslim immigrant from Pakistan trying to build a homemade fuel-air explosive.
Perhaps a NASCAR-looking white guy who hates black people? Drat. I mean a giant Arab-Israeli.

Doesn't really negate the theory of Pentagon-as-backstop. It just means that the shooting took place in a parking-lot and the shooter fled (as hard as it should be to get into the Pentagon parking lots, I don't imagine it's that difficult to leave).
My other theory is "Shooting to gauge reaction times in preparation for more significant attack," but I don't really buy that one, either.

Wouldn't have to be all that close given you are shooting at the world's largest office building, even with a handgun. You don't need specifically designated targets to hit it, just aim high enough to allow for the drop in travel time. And just because only two shots hit the building, who says that only two shots were fired?
Handguns may only have the effective range and accuracy of a thrown baseball (old rule of thumb), but baseballs can travel a long way...

Yeah, but a half-mile? If the ranges I've heard from the building to that highway are accurate (1000+ yards) we're actually talking even more than a half-mile (56.82%+ according to Wolfram Alpha). I'm buying the "in the parking lot" angle.

15 Obamao needs a Murrah, not a 9/11
As for not aiming at the Place Where Good Ideas Go to Die, I always remind people of the numnut in Nebraska who fired off his rifle to celebrate a 'Huskers national championship and hit a pregnant lady a few miles away. (it would be funny if she hadn't lost the kid).
Remember, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, so when they find a third bullet we can talk about enemy action...
Posted by: Stephen at October 19, 2010 08:08 AM (wkR3c)
I bet THAT would put a stop to the random registered Democrat jackass popping of a few rounds at the building.
Posted by: Jesse James at October 19, 2010 08:22 AM (CHrmZ)
Who was in/around the building at the time? Was anyone outside? What was going on around the building?
This supposedly happened at 5am. I'm guessing that something was going on outside, and the building just happened to catch the bullets.
Strangely enough, I do not think this was terrorism. However, if suddenly the FBI says it was DEFINITELY not terrorism, we'll know it was terrorism.

People get killed all the time by bullets fired in the air in celebration by idiots ... cops in LA hide in their vehicles under freeway overpasses around midnight New Year's Eve for good reason.
Please don't make noises about maximum ranges at a building sized target unless you actually have a clue.

it must be a lone wack job because the bad guys would never just shoot at a building to watch the reaction of the security forces ... how fast and from where they deploy from would never be useful information to a hit squad that wanted to do a Mombai style attack on the Pentagon ...

For some odd reason I kinda doubt any "peaceniks" are going to stage a Mumbai type shoot em up at the Pentagon. Some other government building, maybe, but even then that's a stretch.
If it's a "peace-ers" job, then it's false flag.

40% hit ratio on a building? Pretty sad.
It could really have been a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting on the freeway, a couple of very unlucky shots.
My only real concern is that it was someone on foot or in a vehicle who had studied security, got close and got away, as a "damp run" to test whether it was possible, or worse, a nutjob who did the same thing.
Certainly does not inspire great confidence in the security.

Too much coincidence that the Pentagon and Marine Museum were both shot within a couple days. If you keep heading north on I-95 from Quantico you drive right past the Pentagon about 40 minutes later.
I-395 is only a few hundred yards from the south face of the Pentagon. Somebody could easily fire out of the passenger window of a passing car on the freeway and hit the building.
However, the Marine Museum is screened from I-95 by a strip of trees at least fifty yards deep. I don't think you could hit it from the freeway. You'd have to drive into its parking lot to hit it or creep through the woods to get a clear shot.
It's probably idiots at work. When I worked in an office building next to the freeway in Fort Worth, there was a bullet hole in one of the windows one morning. I'll bet plenty of buildings next to the freeway in DC get shot and it never makes the papers.
