SNL: WikiLeaks
— Ace

I thought this was a good, funny spin on Assange's operation. The end joke (the source for a particularly embarrassing video leak about Hillary) makes it worth watching. Note: I am having trouble actually connecting to the videos. I don't know if this is just a problem I'm having or a problem NBC is having. So you might wind up clicking and just getting an ad, and then an error seeing the actual content.

Link here if that won't play. Link Fixed. But still won't connect for me.

For those who say SNL isn't worth watching: It wasn't worth watching, as usual. DeNiro really seemed to want to phone it in and really just showed up. In a full three sketches, he just played... Robert DeNiro. And 90% of the show was just old sketches, though one of them, the Blizz-Man, is still kinda funny. Kinda. I mean, this is like the tenth Blizz-Man sketch and they're all exactly the same.

16 >>>What's up with that is awesome >>>Vini is awesome too I used to think so, but these sketches have been used an awful, awful lot, especially What Up With That. They're good sketches, but to me, overdone, and without any way to change them up or go further/more outrageous to get additional mileage out of the joke. I guess special guest Mothra was a nod to that, but just of the basic type of other weird, random special guests. Blizz Man is like that, too, but I just like the basic schtick of it enough to still enjoy it the... what, 10th time he's been on? But I don't really laugh at the Blizz Man anymore. I just smile amusedly. This whole season has really been chiefly about re-running old sketches, over and over. They do that a lot, but I'm noticing they've hit an especially big rut this season. Their Big New Ideas every week is to re-run a Penelope sketch, a Vinny Vedecci sketch, a What Up With That, etc. Or a Vincent Price sketch, which I used to love, but... getting creaky.

21 Please explain why we're supposed to care about SNL. Honestly, 1975 was 35 years ago. SNL 2010 isn't exactly cutting-edge social commentary or an insightful reflection of the current zeitgeist. And yet, we regularly get these posts on right-wing websites, trying to convince us that "OMG, SNL is on our side on this one!" If SNL was a horse, they'd have taken it out behind the barn and shot it 20 years ago, if not sooner.

29 Honestly, 1975 was 35 years ago. SNL 2010 isn't exactly cutting-edge social commentary or an insightful reflection of the current zeitgeist.

I read a book about SNL a few years ago. If I remember correctly, some time in the 80s, Lorne Michaels deliberately started backing away from the kind of stuff they had been doing with the original cast, and made a decision to go with more character-based stuff.

I agree with Vic.  By the mid 80s even I could see that all TV had become shit.

Posted by: Jack's androgynous confusion at December 06, 2010 12:19 PM (F/4zf)

34 I think they're using Vinni all wrong, it's a good springboard to make un-pc jokes about dirty foreigners and showcase Hader's impersonation skills (like he used to do impersonations of the stars to their faces)...not to have Bobby M run around like a child. And Deniro screwed up the deerhunter line which was funny nonetheless. WUWT doesn't feel old, it's a good hub and spoke for whatever randomness and guests they can stick in (Joseph Gordon-Levitt's future guy from the 80's cameo last year was awesome). I feel that these two sketches are underused compared to the painful Wiig recurrings. No more Gilly, please. Wiig is attractive, but so is Abby and the persian. So, let's get more of them. Blizzman's joke is the same same (like Gilly) because all he does is look like Color Me Badd and rap like the Swedish Chef. Nothing changes.

36 The obvious answer to wiki-anything is to flood the web with "other" information.

It would be trivial to get the affected countries to join with the US and assign people to create phony released documents, set up websites that claim to have the "official" wikileaks docs, etc.

Did Obama and company do this?  No. They are immature, inexperienced, and don't really care about protecting anything having to do with US sovereignty.

Our elementary school has a salad bar. Has had one for all 4 years we've been there. So, the concept isn't exactly new to some schools. How they keep the items germ free is beyond me and I don't really think they do, but honestly considering all the other petri dishes lurking all over the school, the salad bar is the least of the worries. Now if you want to talk about how they can't keep the milk from spoiling so some kid is always puking up spoiled milk in the lunchroom, that would be nice to solve.

Also, bake sales, does anyone have a link that definitively says this will be affected by the child nutrition blah de blah bill they just passed?

Actually, it's common among public education types (I'm related to several).  Obama could raise taxes to 90%, defund the military, retreat in AfPak and Iraq, sell nuclear material to Iran, and start paying "reparations" to the black community, and they wouldn't care.

Alternatively, if they're "liberal" teachers: Obama could institute a 10% flat tax on all income brackets, defund the EPA, bomb Iran into radio-active glass, and sell all the nukes we're getting rid of due to START to Israel, and they wouldn't care.

But suggest something that changes their world, and they'll have the politician's head, if they can.

Nothing matters but that they don't have to be subject to performance-based pay raises, they don't have teach more than 24 (really 22) kids at a time, and that they get their 30 minute lunch break every day ('cause, you know, we in the private sector never work through lunch or work late into the night to get stuff done).

They're mad because they think (rightly) that this will put more strain on school budgets- which means their benefits get more expensive and they're less likely to get big raises.

86 I thought it was great, especially when it turns out to be Biden at the end.

And whoever does Obama finally learned to say "uhh" a lot and bob his head back and forth like a meth addict at a tennis match.  Still not a great impression, but it's a lot better than it used to be.

87 It would have been funnier if they had the guts to make fun of Obama instead of Hillary. T

89 Why on earth would you watch SNL when you could be spending you night productively by looking at internet porn???

My biggest problem with SNL is that it is so incredibly obvious that performers are reading their lines from cue cards. Even in some great past bust a gut skits (The Census Taker) it is abvious that both parties are looking past the person their supposed to be talking to and reading a card. Usually you can even watch their eyes scan back and forth as they read.

You would think that pros would be a little better prepared and the regulars at least would be better at this.
