Sore Loser To Protest Alvin Greene's Victory
— DrewM

It's nice to know that Democrats aren't only whiny bitches when it comes to losing to Republicans.

Vic Rawl seems to be putting more effort into this than he did into his campaign.

“The strange circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s vote require a thorough investigation. For better or worse, this protest process is the only platform currently available for that investigation,” he continued.

The former lawmaker outlined slightly different reasons for the protest than were originally offered up by his campaign.

On Friday, the campaign enlisted a group of national academic experts who claimed there were troubling differences between the results of the absentee and election-day ballots.

But while Rawl said the analysis of the returns were “ongoing,” he focused Monday on stories of problems with voting machines.

“These range from voters who repeatedly pressed the screen for me only to have the other candidate’s name appear, to poll workers who had to change program cards multiple times, to at least one voter in the Republican primary who had the Democratic U.S. Senate race appear on her ballot,” he said.

At least he didn't trot out 'the Republicans did it' meme. I mean, what was that plan supposed to have been?

1-Get nominee on ballot

2-????

3-Profit!

To believe the 'plant theory' you have to presume Jim DeMint and the SC GOP (joke that it is this year) were worried about Rawl who was trailing by 19 points in a Republican year.

Earlier on FNC one of the reporters said Greene was going to court to explain to the judge why he had 10K to spend on running for the Senate but needed a public defender. That should be an interesting answer.

At least one Democrat is floating the idea, that Greene is a few bottles short of a 12 pack.

State Rep. Todd Rutherford told Fox News that he went to Greene's house to discuss with him how Greene succeeded last week in becoming the candidate to challenge Republican Sen. Jim DeMint in the November election, but he found it difficult to decipher an answer.

"About two questions into a conversation with him, it would become apparent that he is not probably fit to answer the questions befitting a Senate candidate," said Rutherford, a Democrat. "If he was put into this, then it is a joke that is funny to all the rest of us, but he doesn't get it -- because I don't know that his mental status is such that he can get it."

Now, I'd be lying if I said that thought hadn't crossed my mind as well but I think that about most Democrats. As for answering questions in a manner befitting high office, I think Bob "The Grabber" Etheridge has shown that's a flexible standard for Democrats.

Just a reminder...Greene didn't just barely win, he won by 18% (scroll down). To steal that kind of number you need professionals like SEIU or ACORN involved. If he had that kind of support, Greene would be getting more love from Dems than he is.

2 From the other thread:

From the P&C: Rawl cited the following:

1.Irregularities found during the ongoing analysis of the returns

The election commission has already said this is BS.

2. Anecdotal evidence from voters and poll workers that there were "extremely unusual" incidents during the primary. These included voters who repeatedly pressed the screen for Rawl only to have Greene's name appear, workers who had to change program cards multiple times in the voting machines, and at least one voter in the Republican party who had the Democratic Senate race appear on her ballot.

"Anecdotal" means a couple of ignarant poll workers. Doesn't rise to enough to offset the HUGE number of Greene votes. This should be thrown out.

3. A well-documented unreliability and unverifiability with the voting machines used in South Carolina.

Well documented???? This is the first I have ever heard of it. If it is so well documented why are we still using them?  The Dems have been happy with the machines before.  This sounds like BS. Should be thrown out.

c) Idjit Dems in SC are ignorant sluts regardless of who is on their ballot

This is hilarious. Vic Rawl was already a laughingstock for losing to this joker; now he's ensuring that the local Democratic Party has to waste time on a baseless lawsuit. He's set to piss off the black population too.

I suspect that Rawl came into this race as a sacrificial lamb who could increase Dem voter turnout for the downticket races, while raising his name recognition. Now he's got a national recognition - as Vic Bawl the crying baby. He's a political goner. I hope he's got a sideline taking classes for barber college or something.

38 Somebody's probably pointed this out already, but it is extremely, extremely stupid for the Dems to be pursuing this.  Nobody was going to beat DeMint this year, not Rawl and not anybody else.

If they're successful in driving Greene out of the race and installing Rawl or some other white Democrat as the nominee, the only net result is that S.C. blacks (some 60% of the Dem electorate in the state) are going to be so angered and will stay home in such droves in the fall that the Dems can pretty much forget about winning any race in the state this year.  It will make Nikki Haley a lock for governor, it will hand any other competitive statewide races to the GOP, and it will likely lead to the defeat of the 5th District's Congressman John Spratt.

Greene's political martyrdom could even become a cause celebre for blacks in other states, and the political damage to the Democrats could reach far beyond South Carolina.

They were not stupid.  Rawl thought he had a lock because he was the "Party" candidate. He didn't campaign either. That it is what the papers are not telling you. Neither one of them campaigned actively.

I have only seen advertisements from two candidates for Gov here and that was McMasters and Haley. No ads have been run for Senate or other offices.

So what happened. The candidates and their photos were shown in the papers. The blacks saw a black candidate and voted for him.

That is the end of the story.

Rawls didn't just lose- he was trounced.  It wasn't even close- a few "ballot irregularities" that exist in every election doesn't explain losing by 18%.

But just remember the rules, kids:

Opposition to Obama and/or his policies:  RACIST.

Maybe I have a perverse sense of irresponsible fun, but I kind of want this guy to win the general election. At this point it's quite obvious he's not part of the SC Dem Party machine.

Now que up the line to throw rocks at me...

True, he could be another Cynthia McKinney, but I don't get that kinda vibe from him. I really have no idea what he is about other than some guy who wanted a good paying job, and Senate is a pretty good paying gig for a guy like that.

I'm also sure he will lose too.

"Demanded" to go to her room, or suggested?

A tresspassing charge might be warranted, but again- a felony for showing this (adult) girl a graphic picture???  Did he grab her by the hair, glue her eyelids open, and force her to look at it?  Or was it more along the lines of "hey, look at this"?

Could one get a felony sex-offender rap from simply looking at porn (even for a moment) where someone else catches a glimpse by accident?

What he was accused of doing was classless and crude, but a felony charges should be reserved for serious crimes- not tricking an adult to look at pictures of genitalia.

Don't forget, you are talking "bible belt" here. Disseminating porn is a felony here.  The Supreme Court has NEVER made porn legal, contrary to popular myth.

What they have ruled is you can not "pre-censure" and must prosecute "after the fact". The jury rules on whether or not it is obscene by "community standards". According to the paper this was graphic sex.

Most of the time nobody prosecutes this stuff anymore because it is too much trouble to prosecute and get a conviction but in this case, he went a little too far.  The "unsolicited showing" is probably what got him, along with the demand for sex.

According to Greene's accuser, "a rather large man came and sat right next to me. He said, 'Hi.' I thought he was being friendly, so I said hi back."

However, she says that's where the polite talk ended.

"Then he was like, 'Do you like football?' I said, 'Yes.' Then he asked me to look at my screen and it was just a bunch of porn and he was scrolling and laughing. Then he just looked at me and said, 'Let's just go back to your room now.' That's when I decided it was time to leave," said the alleged victim.

The paper said "common area in the dorm".

Anyone know where a guy can kick some ass, and get a snowcone?  Tropical Berry Blast if you got it.

Sometimes I go up to girls and ask them, "Do you know anything about real estate?"

And when she says yes, I take her hand and put it on my crank and say, "Then tell me, is this a lot?"

171 Isn't it possible that Dems voted for Greene simply because he wasn't Vic Rawl? Anti-establishment fever and all. If true, things look better than I thought.

Then he just looked at me and said, 'Let's just go back to your room now.' That's when I decided it was time to leave," said the alleged victim.

(dig the part in the Hollowpoint's link where she whines it's "not fair to her" that the guy ran for Senate, lol.)

Common area" sure as hell does not sound like a "dorm" to me. To me it sounded more like a library setting. They have open computers available at a library, but I haven't ever seen any in a common area (that wasn't a library) or a dorm.

Every dorm I've ever lived in or been in has what is called a "common area".  Sometimes it's on the ground floor, a lobby of sorts, but most of the time you can find them on every floor of the dorm.  You're dating yourself if you don't think there would be a bank of free access computers in areas like this.

Don't forget, you are talking "bible belt" here. Disseminating porn is a felony here.  The Supreme Court has NEVER made porn legal, contrary to popular myth.

I'm not so much arguing that it wasn't a felony by letter of the law (which I'm not familiar with), but that it shouldn't be.

Five years in prison for asking another adult to look at a computer screen that has porn on it?  You don't have a problem with that?  As far as we know, he never laid a hand on her.

Posted by: Hollowpoint at June 14, 2010 02:10 PM (plsiE)

Viewing a picture of a dick is not the same as being forced to blow one at gunpoint.

Unfortunately all sorts of stuff are felonies that really shouldn't be.

In Ventura Country CA, stealing a few avocados out of an orchard can be prosecuted as a felony.

Normally I wouldn't consider "viewing or owning porn" to be a prosecutable offense (or I guess it shouldn't be), but showing it unsolicited to a minor is (and 18 is a minor by this law).

I have gone back to the papers and I can't find the original write up.

191 Really the bottom line here is it IS a felony, they have an open and shut case, and unless he cops a deal he will go up the river AND he will be listed as a sex offender.

Of course that doesn't prohibit him from holding federal office, especially as a Democrat.

"Sir" not so much, "sick creep", well I hear that a lot more. In the parlance of our youth "sick" sometimes means good or cool, but I haven't quite locked onto what "creep" means, but it must be a good thing, right?

197 Rawl didn't do much campaigning, but he did some - he was limited by money:  he raised and spent under $190,000 on the campaign.  Greene spent his filing fee.

It was a legitimate result though, and won't be overturned.  I suspect it was supposed to be a demonstration of clout by black ministers.  They knew DeMint was untouchable this year, so decided to get an unknown to file and NOT campaign at all.  His only campaigning would be the world of mouth in black churches, so whatever share of the vote he could pull, the ministers could proudly claim it was all do to THEM.  Rawl is no stranger to controversy himself, and the SC Democratic primaries have an even higher % of black voters than usual when there are hotly contested races on the Republican side (it's an open party state, you can only vote in one, but you don't have to declare until you get to the polls).

The ministers never expected to win, and probably had no idea of Greene's troubled background or pending criminal charges.  So instead of bragging rights, they've clammed up.

No evidence of this, mind you, but it is almost the only scenario which makes sense.
