— Open Blogger A lovely Spanish women by the name of Angeles Duran is now the registered owner of the Sun.
It seems this woman has found a loophole:
There is an international agreement which states that no country may claim ownership of a planet or star, but it says nothing about individuals, she added."There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law. I did it but anyone else could have done it, it simply occurred to me first."
Not stupid indeed. Before you congratulate her new aquisition you really should read the fine print.
Duran, who lives in the town of Salvaterra do Mino, said she now wants to slap a fee on everyone who uses the sun and give half of the proceeds to the Spanish government and 20 percent to the nation's pension fund. She would dedicate another 10 percent to research, another 10 percent to ending world hunger -- and would keep the remaining 10 percent herself.
10%? Not too bad given todays economy. Hey, a crazy woman's gotta eat, right?

wow this woman is stupid. How is charging people money for free energy supposed to help the economy and generate income for anyone but her? Is she going to send a letter to all farmers threatening to burn their crops unless they pay her for the usage of the sun?

okay, so we've got to get an AoSHQ consortium together to lay claim to the Fuck You nebula posted earlier?
Too late, Hot Air has it and it's one thing they won't share with us

She is Spanish, which makes me wonder if she can use her percieved insanity to claim some form of disability in that Euro-Socialist trough of a country. She'll be collecting off our mockery.
Perhaps the joke is on us.

What really counts is if you can back it.
Refer to thousands of years of history for details, and the nothing-doing when someone claims whatever action is illegal.
I haven't read into this further, and I don't care to, but I'm predicting that we'll hear, in her defense, that she is not crazy at all, but rather garnered attention because she wants to have global warming, poverty, and various green concerns prominent in the public discussion.

As the original owner of the SUN, I hereby donate the emissions along any spectrum to the haphazard receivers of planet earth wherever they might abide in perpetuity.
If she wants to prove me wrong, she'll have to go to the SUN and prove it's not there.
HAH!

Nations: $100.00 per year for First-World countries, $25.00 otherwise
Lesser municipalities: anywhere from $1.00 to $50.00, depending on size, infrastructure, and population (details to come later). If you're California or Tokyo, prepare to pay the max...mountain communities in Nepal need only pay at the lowest necessary rate.
Individuals: $0.02 per year, per person. Families/households of three or more get discounts beginning with the third person (3 people -- $0.05, 4 people -- $0.06, and so forth).
I will shortly have a nice anonymous PO box to which you as a person, or the city, state/province, or country which you represent, may remit your rent. Please pay within thirty days to maintain your tenancy.
In all fairness, I should point out that I do reserve the right to apply severe penalties to tenants who prove particularly unruly. So North Korea and Iran, prepare to start calculating your payment in percentages of GDP. That kid who picked on me in fourth grade, get ready to sell your Maserati. And I do hope that Ms. "Duran" Duran keeps in mind that anyone who charges me for use of the sun can expect to have their land pulled right out from under them.
One final note: Owner is not liable for any earthquakes, mudslides, avalanches, and any and all other "acts of God" that may affect your usage and enjoyment of the Earth (TM). Any such problems undoubtedly result from user error.

No one seems to have asked, so - Is she hot?
She owns the sun. She's as hot as she wants to be.
(Eighty-odd posts on someone named Duran seizing control of outer space and no Barbarella remarks? Ace will be disappointed, yo.)
