— Ace Ridiculous, in the first place, that a Kennedy, a partisan hack, is supposedly the guy to whom Democrats go for absolution on this issue.
Like, oh, right, totally neutral judge and stuff, eh?
At any rate, whatever you think of this contretemps -- and look, for what it's worth, I agree with Rahm Emanuel: Liberal activists and bloggers are fucking retarded -- the community hurt by this vulgarity doesn't accept the apology.
The Special Olympics is disputing the White House claim that its chairman, Tim Shriver, accepted Rahm Emanuel's apology for calling liberals "retarded."Seeking to damp down the controversy over Rahm Emanuel's reported, months-old use of the word, a White House official yesterday told me and other reporters that Emanuel had called Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver to apologize.
"The apology was accepted," the official said yesterday.
The vice president for communications at the Special Olympics, Kirsten Seckler, told me that this account of the conversation is "inaccurate."
"Tim didn't accept his apology," she said. "Tim can't do that. He can't accept an apology on behalf of all people with disabilities."
Shriver had simply said, she said, that he was willing to continue the conversation with the chief of staff.
UPDATE: Emanuel met Wednesday with six disability advocates. He "sincerely apologized," again, for using the word, promising to sign an online pledge to end the use of the word, the advocates said in a joint statement.
Emanuel also promised to "examine" Congressional legislation that would remove the word from federal law.
Assuming Emanuel sinned here -- his penance is to keep other people from using the sinful word?
Really?
You know, I really didn't keep up on this story much -- noticed it, found it meh -- but, like, do you know, are the nutroots pissed off about this, or what?
I understand we are focusing, as we do, on the PC controversy here; but what about the fact that President Wonderful's chief of staff just called his most enthusiastic cultists "fucking retards"?
AKA those who cling bitterly to their retardation?
I really don't know. I guess it would take a five second search to find out, so I guess I can also conclude I really don't care very much, either.
I just want to point out he's right.
Oh, and I also want it noted for the record that, just as it quickly entered leftist mythology that Tea Partiers had themselves used the term "teabaggers," not realizing the sexual import, I have now concluded that fucking liberal retards themselves refer to themselves as fucking retards, so I'm going to use the shit out of that term.
Thanks to AHFF Geoff.

Chief of Staff Calls Ultra-Liberal Progressives "Fucking Retards" - Mentally Challenged Demand Apology
The question is, were the mentally challenged insulted by the word "retards" or by the insinuation that their mental faculties are as impaired as those of ultra-Liberal Progressives?

It's not a fair fight.
Any other so-called 'victim' group that gets its panties in a wad over political correctness is engaging in a battle over words and the use of language to define a group, and has the ability to wage that battle with words. Gays, feminists, muslims, etc all have the capacity to enter the argument, enter the fray, and make their case. The community of the retarded do not have the word-weapon capability to do that and therefore are nothing more than a target for cruelty with no way of making the playing field even. They are at the mercy of those who can use words as weapons.
So as a member of a family who has a lot of experience with handicapped kids, I never permit the use of that word as a put-down in my presence.

This whole thing is starting to remind me of the South Park ep where the boys decided that the Harley gang in town was annoying, so took to calling them all gay. People got ticked, hilarity ensued, eventually resulting the boys explaining that yes, you can be "gay" without being a homosexual "gay." Duh, was their thinking.

Isn't this the Lib argument for 'accepted use' applied to offending or offensive terminology?

Making any legitimate word taboo because mean spirited people abuse it is backwards. Ex: "Negro" is not the n-word. Negro is BLACK in Spanish and French, and was the word respectfully referencing people of African lineage in America. If using "retard" gets PC prosecuted as a hate crime, given that this administration has pledged to have the word removed from all legislation, then why would this administration advertise for 'qualified mentally retarded' applicants for the Justice Dept.? The next step, all typeface including musical scores may as well have the words ritardando, ritard., rit., ritenuto obliterated as well. Go with perdendosi, morendo or smorzando to slow down as in DYING.

Obama is a tard. I mean that to be insulting, to HIM. If you don't like it because it's insensitive and offensive to you, then try sacking up.
I don't get bent out of shape whenever a guy is insulted by calling him some variation of "lady." It's meant to be insulting, to the guy. It's not meant to be insulting to women in general. I understand that because I'm not retarded.
The PC Thought Police of this world are truly disgusting and conservatives need to take a stand against such practices. Poor widdle Sarah Palin needs to get her nose back in joint and stop acting like "offensive speech" is legitimate reason for termination. That's a liberal position.

90, that's fair but fair misses the point. The point is to make indy voters "feel" badly about Rahm Emmanuel and lead them to write the WH suggesting he be fired. Then we get to bash the Obama administration because BHO picked losers to head his administration who he then later had to fire. That shows bad judgement on Obama's part.

Its funny that Ace posted this because while I was eating supper I flipped through the channels to see what was on and noted a movie about SC and Myrtle Beach on the MGM channel.
Of course I had to watch a few minutes of it to see if it was fit to see. I didn't last through one scene. It was horrid from the supposed SC accents alone. I didn't grow up here but I have lived here for 37 years now and I have never heard anyone talk like those people.
Why is it that Southernors can be insulted on a daily basis and nobody expects them to be "insulted"?

Of COURSE it is. "You're not permitted to use certain words or else you'll be fired" couldn't get any more speech stifling. It's liberal and it's disgusting.
It's allowing them to pay for their indiscretions.
Then make them pay correctly. Rat them out, hold them up for ridicule, call their base the "Rahm Emmanuel-approved term," but don't resort to Leftist tactics. No one in this country has the right to NOT be offended. Conservatives used to understand this, now when they say, "I am offended, FIRE HIM," they become even bigger hypocrites than they accuse the liberals of being.

Wait a minute.
Didn't we start using penis and vajayjay because they are clinical and, therefor, not offensive? I get confused.

This is where it hurts them, barbelle: It shows that those in the inner rings of power suffer lapses of self-control. It also shows that these people also mistake public conversations for private ones. Finally, it betrays what the leadership of the Left think of their supporters. The tactics used to bring this all to light aren't racist or sexist, so it's fair play.
If it makes the Oval Office a little better in the future, like when there's something at stake that's more important than some hurt feelings, then we may all be better off for their improvement in certain areas. And if people have become uncomfortable voting for Obama in three years because of this, all the better.
You're right; this is trivial nonsense. But remember that Scooter Libby suffered more for sinning less.

I'm with Grunt -- this is a war; treat it like one. When the war is over (and the right side has won, which the right side is going to have to realize is going to get freaking nasty so they'd better be willing and able to play it) then we can all afford to get back into ironing out the niceties. Quite honestly the joy of doing this is that the right side never did espouse pc completely nor the stifling of speech due to pc rules; the right side has always pointed out the inherent foolishness of pc. So this is win-win imho.
Hoist Rahm as high as possible and make him squeal.

We're at throwing mud at the Teflon Messiah and seeing what sticks
I know. But this guy won't be president after 7 years, max, while the need to show that our ideas are better than the Left's will. This fake outrage over insensitive words won't serve us well in the long run. Plus, it just feels so sensitive metrosexual.

I am really amazed that this site has this many commenters so eager to engage in the obviously socialist practice of getting someone fired for his politically-incorrect rhetoric.
I'm with ya. The two excuses: 'They started it' and 'It shows their hypocrisy' come up short to me.
We don't pull this sensitive PC crap. We mock it.

The Right is not making a comeback because folks suddenly decided you were more likeable.
And it sure as hell wasn't because folks decided the Libs were meanies who use politically incorrect words behind closed doors.

But it isn't "metrosexual sensitive" -- its coming from a mommy...a mommy with a special needs infant. Can't mommies of special needs infants be a little sensitive about things? Even overly sensitive?
And this is where the conservative men come in and smooth things over and say it was really quite bad form for the party that espouses so much care and concern over pc (ehem, looking at you "progressives"), and women have a right to be overly protective of and sensitive to the issues concerning their babies and hey by the way the rest of you independent folks...don't you think this pc bullshit is a bunch of blatant hypocrisy after all and Rahm is a miserable, foul mouthed scumbag and hypocrite?
See, not really sinking to their level at all -- if it's played right.

FWIW, I work with MR/DD adults and the State of Ohio has decided that the word "retarded" is offensive, not because it doesn't accurately describe the mental condition of the individual but because it is commonly used as an insult and might hurt the feelings of people who don't understand the concept of being insulted in the first place.
The silliness gets worse. While Ohio is spending money on ads to remove "retard" from the official lexicon, the State has made deep cuts into private care-giver funding forcing the care-givers to give up guardianship to the State.
Ohio is a fucking joke when it comes to Social Services and I'm tired of these cocksuckers interfering with people who can offer real help.

I alway's preferred Mental Patient over Retard... growing up in Brooklyn, Knucklehead was alway's popular... still is.... I don't care one way or another, they all make their point...... this is a non story.
One observation though..... I have nothing against the Special Olympics organization, but in light of this episode and their call outs on other people after their slip up's, the Special Olympics really are turning out to be the speech Nazi's.
Peppering your language with colorfull invectives doesn't automatically mean that a person is insensitive to others with special needs or impediments..... fucking dopes.

Seriously, do the nomenclaturally-oppressed group in question know who or what Rahm Emmanuel is or give one red shit what he says about them or anybody else?
Know who's really retarded?
People who think they're solving real problems by changing the names of shit.

Conversely, why is "mentally disabled" expected to be such a fucking improvement over "retarded"?
It's less "hurtful"?
In what way?

People need to lighten the fuck up. Sheesh.
Because some policies, decisions, and actions truly ARE fucking retarded and need to be called such.
