It was uploaded a month ago, ZKM.  New to me, anyway.  I thought it looked very cool.

CD, if you're talking about the 3-D remake, Lucas is just going to work over the originals again with sfx.  They start coming out in '12.

I know I can't wait to see 3-D Jar Jar Binks.

That's too bad, it'd be interesting to see a 're-imagining' of the whole thing...if they can reboot Star Trek, why not reboot Star Wars?

Yeah, Jar-Jar Binks in 3D...can't hardly wait   ...guess I won't be able to get a cam on the torrentz for that one.

8 Clever idea, but now everyone will do it.  Take an iconic scene and make it "old timey" and do the silent picture thing.  It will be the new "Downfall" parody.

Yeah, too bad he can't hire a screenwriter and remake them.  From a business prospective it would work, because of the "Star Wars" name.  But it would never get anywhere with Lucas--the kind of guy who cannot admit error.  Plus... I was about to say he's probably sick of it, but... the remakes.

Maybe he'll get a screenwriter and/or a director and make 7,8, and 9.

No thanks, 1, 2 and 3 were enough, though 3 wasn't too bad.

I would like to see the whole thing done by somebody else, with no Lucas at all.

Looks kinda like a newspaper clipping

1 and 2 were so bad, I never watched 3 all the way through.  I've had it on a few times, but the 1 and 2 made me not want to pay much attention.

I actually saw 3 before I saw 1 and 2, so I lucked out there...at least it had some darkness and lots of lightsabre duels.  The duel at the end between Obi Wan and Anakin rocked.

23 much as the originals ("3, 4 & 5") reflected lucas' interests as artist & film innovator, the sequels ("1,2 &3") reflected his self image & interests as a social & political figure. by that time as a billionaire he was as much consumed by the pop culture of 'clintons as emblems of projection & republicans as evil' as he was by the pop cultural film artifacts that fueled the first 3 movies when he was simply a film maker. in the '90s he was seduced by the pop/political/movie industry climate surrounding the clintons. ya wanta know why those next 3 films focused on the "princess/senator" & some obtuse political debates with the dark side shenanigans (republicans)? it was the politics of personal projection focused on the clintons, machined & promoted as avatars of liberalism (though they accomplished nothing as liberals themselves.) in the post-reagan, post-coldwar prosperity of the '90s, the libs had noffin' cept such image projection. lucas was actually so invested in the idea that he made those films as if they had the same mythic gravitas that he intende for the first 3. it demonstrates how pervasive & effective the clinton/lib/hollywood machine was, how prosperous our achievements had made us, & how trivial both lucas & the pop/political machine was. then 9/11, & reality reared it's head.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 09:42 PM (73jUp)

24 it just seemed so obvious to me that in the "1,2 & 3" sequels he was acting out hillary love that i was sorta non-plussed no one else noted it. turgid lib hillary agit prop. boy, those clintons seduced hollywood. & boy, what a waste of his artistry, legacy & position.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 09:48 PM (7JES6)

25 Gomm, interesting.  I noticed a change between V and VI.  Empire Strikes Back was pretty far down the road of sucking.  I never had any explaination in mind other than Lucas was reading his own press, and it went to his head.  He began to believe he could flip shit out of his pocket, and it would turn to gold.  Kind of a self-absorbed artist thing--a self-centered fugue of sorts.   I'm still thinking about your point about the politcs.  Just never plugged that in, I guess.

Posted by: rdbrewer at October 01, 2010 09:48 PM (//VQH)

26 ... but, then again, lucas was nothing more than a pop movie maker anyways. back in the day, spielberg & lucas loved that idea & transformed movie making. they both fell flat through their new-found lib narcissism.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 09:51 PM (73jUp)

27 ... i seriously doubt that when lucas announced after the first 3 that he intended to make a nonology (three trilogies), that he meant anything like the second (1,2 & 3) turned out. he veered into something else (see above). he must have had originally meant them to go elsewhere "mythic & timeless" from his imagination. art at the service of politics sucks. pedestrian. but lucas as an "artist" is rather pedestrian, anyways, and always was. that was part of the appeal of the first 3 movies. they were like commonplace serials made wonderful & we were cheered by that. no pretense to art or realism or "relevancy". just rousing entertainment, as the critics at time out it. then, what would lucas do with his billions?.... a couple of self indulgent political metaphors for the stupid masses. just entertain us, asshole. you might just make some film "art" .

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 10:06 PM (7JES6)

28

Actually after watching 1 I went back and watched 3 and (even after the memory hole edits) (Greedo shooting first anyone?) I was amazed at how bad I thought it was. Of course I wasn't twelve watching it at a drive in.

That said, if 1 had been the first one made there never would have been another.

Gomm, I thought his THX-1138 was very well done.  The way he framed shots, edited, built up the sound environment, and told the story... wonderful.  He's good at creating characters we care about.  That is, he was good at that.  I couldn't  care less about this latest batch.  I'm trying to think of one character in the last three movies I liked...

I liked Christopher Lee.  And that brontosaurus who farted.  And the metal frog thing from the first episode.

39 "1 & 2" are paeans to hillary love, lucas rising to the defense of the clintons against the attacks of the evil republicans. like so many of the well intentioned, well heeled liberals did. clinton became their living embodiment, the stand in for: civil rights, peace ("multilaterlism"), caring (for the poor) & la-tidi-dah... [the big word] ... [here it comes].... [drumroll: ...] empathy!

Freudian slip?

Posted by: Otis Criblecoblis at October 01, 2010 11:07 PM (kJXs1)

52 Otis: freudian slip? nope. lucas' freudian slip. like obi wan kanobi: o, boy i want cannibis. he couldn't. he was working, not just "writing/creating", supporting 2 kids with a distanced wife (ergo "han solo"), the "princess leia", etc. etc. not there's anything wrong with it...

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:14 PM (7JES6)

53 alot of lucas' names & titles are sublimated expressions. happens. that's cool.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:16 PM (73jUp)

54 i figure he was smoking thc at the time & sorta meant th reference.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:17 PM (7JES6)

55 ... there IS a kinda marijuana high distance & alienation (of a sort) in thX-1138, afterall. not the "hey, man, let's smoke some dope and party, dude" sort, but the kind us [ahem] intellectual types found using it.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:22 PM (7JES6)

56 ... also a kind of stillness & separation that can occur. coincidentally, that pervades the movie.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:25 PM (73jUp)

57 .. it's the opposite of drinking. it's thinking at ease without the "push" of drunkenness. unlike me, here. ob,i wan kanobi.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:31 PM (73jUp)

58 should read: "... also a kind pf stillness & sense of liberation that can occur..."

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:47 PM (73jUp)

59 i think that for some, marijuana can be liberating from a sense of imposition of unwanted or unwarranted expectations. healthy and an intelllectual breathing space that can be a positive in one's life. creative types have spoken of this.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:50 PM (7JES6)

60 ... it's not an end in itself, of course.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:51 PM (7JES6)

61 ... alcohol, too, provides a sense of separation from the necessity of meeting perceived personal or social demands or reality. good can come from that, too. in excess... destruction & death.

Posted by: gomm at October 01, 2010 11:57 PM (7JES6)

62 [THX-1138 was a student film he made in the '70s when the initials T H C were barely known and marijuana was sous-cultura {made that up}].

63 ~{[(of course it's a reference)]}~

Posted by: gomm at October 02, 2010 12:04 AM (73jUp)

64 ... fwiw, i figure lucas stopped smoking marijuana around the time he made american graffiti. then or after. it was serious business & paying bills then with an independent film company & his life, family, career & dreams on the line.

Posted by: gomm at October 02, 2010 12:30 AM (73jUp)

65 lucas' inspirations in three steps: student film maker - thc star wars - joseph campbell billionaire - bill & hillary

Posted by: The Pricker! at October 02, 2010 03:39 AM (0EfeF)

71 a.  Vader looks even more wicked in black and white.
b.  1,2 & 3 were written (at least the human relationships/ romance part) by an 8 year old and no one seemed to want to be there.  Sad, because from the get go-- you could see what Lucas wanted but damn, it sucked.

Posted by: EZB at October 02, 2010 04:01 AM (fa9yq)

72 Gomm, I thought his THX-1138 was very well done.  The way he framed shots, edited, built up the sound environment, and told the story... wonderful.

Have you seen what he did to it?

He re-did it like the original films.  Re-edited and packed with CGI.  I think I flicked it off in the first two minutes-- part of the appeal was the spartan, cold, Kubrick-esque filmmaking in the bland, sterile environment, and he fucked that up.

I don't think Lucas actually understands what he's doing (or, more accurately, what he's done).

75 Mornin' flu sufferers.....

Has this already been posted? If so, I apologize for the repeat but:

From Kansascity.com:

It took Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, five attempts to pass the Alaska Bar Exam, a piece of her biography that has gone unreported until now, when she faces a long-shot write-in bid for another term in her Senate seat.

Murkowski, who graduated in 1985 from Willamette University's College of Law in Oregon, wasn't admitted to the Alaska Bar until November 1987.

She flunked the exam in July 1985, February 1986, July 1986 and again in February 1987. She passed on her fifth try in July 1987. Murkowski said that although her failures on the exam aren't something she talks about regularly, she's never hidden them. It's an example of how she "stayed in there," Murkowski said, "and I did not quit."

Gah,  for the sins against romance alone, Lucas should be flayed.

79 Wow, it was one thing when I heard that Mark Levin had a heated discussion with Gloria all red but wow, Greta also had a discussion with Gloria all red.  Greta has had gloria all red on her program a lot.  They may even be friends.  But I think Greta was seriously horrified by all of this and what you get are a great ten minutes of television.  I'd heard that Levin was most upset by the damage to the client.  It seems that Greta is most upset by the damage to the client too.  This video almost deserves it's own thread along with the one from Levin.  It not only speaks to the catch 22 of the illegal alien situation in CA but it also speaks to the vagaries of the two paycheck household in America.  It's tough out there to have a husband and a wife, both working, trying to not miss a beat.  Gloria all red is doing a great job bringing both ideas into the public consciousness and making Americans realize that the dems somehow really don't get it.   Watch the vid....link

Posted by: phoenixgirl at October 02, 2010 05:53 AM (eOXTH)

113 Curious, I think it may be that the letter doesn't really say what allred wants you to believe it says. It's about the amount of wages the illegal alien earned. Not a notification of immigration status. In fact , the letter specifically says no employer action can be taken as a result of the letter. Allred wants to turn a used condom into a smoking gun, so she, Greta, and Levin wind uo talking past each other to a certain extent. Allred's also very creepy because she clearly believes in the big lie to influence elections and has put her client into legal peril. Notice how she doesn't answer the question if she'd being paid by third parties as Levin asks her. In my opinion, that's a yes. Figure out who the third party is and all will become clear.

Those interviews are frustrating to listen to.  Allred never directly answers a question and just keeps shouting "Meg lied...blah, blah, blah"....

But both Greta and Mark were trying to tell her that she's now left her client vulnerable to defrauding SS and illegal immigration charges and she didn't get it...or she knows it but doesn't care because she's in the spotlight.

What's the point? (Of course, we KNOW what the real point is, and it has nothing to do with helping out a poor defenseless Wise Latina)

Rendell Says He'd Like to Succeed Emanuel, Not Expecting Offer From Obama

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell says heÂ’d love to replace Rahm Emanuel as Barack ObamaÂ’s next chief of staff, while allowing that he may be the last person the president would pick for the job.

“If I were president, I am not sure that I would offer Ed Rendell the job of chief of staff,” Rendell said during an interview yesterday on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt,” airing this weekend.

“I am a free spirit. I tell the truth, and I like to mix it up. And that is not the Obama administration’s modus operandi, to say the least,” Rendell said hours after Obama announced his choice of senior adviser Pete Rouse to serve as interim chief of staff.

One caveat, he has to be able to speak as authoritatively on economic issues as he does on foreign policy. Unless we get hit again, this election will be dominated by econ issues.

My dream is Ryan/ Bolton but I doubt Ryan will run.  Bolton looks like he's going to give it a shot.

Palin is the wildcard.  Depending on how these midterms go, she is going to have a pretty strong case if most of her candidates win.  Palin is down my list aways, I'd prefer someone else, but we shall see.

As an ex-Californian who spent most of his life in L.A., I can tell you this is nothing new for Allred. She's been doing this act for decades, and is one of a group of shysters who specialize in "civil rights" and other anti-American causes. She, and the rest, must be supported by the limousine liberals because they don't appear in court, ever. Just on TV.

What's really sad is that Allred has always gotten away with the kind of lib gobbledygook she tried on Levin and Greta. She has a reputation on the left for being an eloquent champion for the rights of The Oppressed. The libs -- including far too many guilt-ridden Jooos -- just east up her crap. What would get any other lawyer's bar card yanked is all in a day's work for her.

Last night was the first time I actually admired Greta. Not that it will do any good, as Allred is so soaked in her own bullshit that she actually believes the lies she spouts, and believe that her evasions and changes of subject actually represent the behavior real lawyers should emulate.

163 When does the liberal press print favorable "news" for  "Social Cons"?

When they attack small government Republicans:

http://tinyurl.com/2alqu8x

S.C. Republicans better listen before it's too late

On Thursday, Cyndi Mosteller and her posse demanded a come-to- Jesus meeting with their gubernatorial candidate. They're troubled about the allegations of infidelity, and disturbed by her nonchalant attitude about paying taxes.

They say Nikki Haley needs to do some explaining, and Ms. Transparency has been anything but.

This rare show of intra-party frankness prompted GOP officials (who are busy kissing the presumptive governor's posterior) to try to label Mosteller the real establishment.

"It's a committee of three Republicans with some worn-out titles," Katon Dawson, a Republican with a worn-out title, told The State newspaper.

These days, social conservatives must feel like they've been dumped the week before the prom. For years, they were the most powerful voting bloc in the GOP and their opinion held great sway. But now they have been replaced by the tea party, folks with a Libertarian bent focused on spending and socialism -- the subliminal talking points of party bigwigs, talk show hosts and Fox News.

This meme of "infidelity as discredited by everyone but Democrats and the insane before the primary was over. Yet the press continues to find some fringe lunatics to try to push it. Note the people this article attacks, not just Nikki Haley but anyone who is for small government. One wonders how these people were ever classified as any type of "conservative"?

I guess for the press its a two-fer, they get to discredit two normal Republican groups.

164 I read in the local Liberal Fish Wrap that El Sadr, "a powerful cleric" in Iraq has decided to back the Prime Minister's government.

For those who may have forgotten: El Sadr was the guy who led an insurrection against the government and was trapped in a Mosque by U.S. troops. He killed a bunch of women and children to make it look like our troops killed them. In a little oopsie he was ordered to surrender by a senior cleric and did so without the U.S. firing a shot - awkwardly leaving behind the dead women and children in an Islamic church.

Here is the true nature of Islam: absolutely nothing was done to this obvious mass murderer, and he remains a cleric.

Hello McFly.

Even the most brain dead zombie Liberals can't ignore that evidence.

Of course the MFM continues to ignore it - but they aren't brain dead. The only possible explanation is that they are just as evil as El Sadr.

Never ascribe to malice that which may be explained by stupidity. Ignoring El Sadr can't be explained by stupidity. Where is the outrage of the press; they  chastise Sarah Palin and acquiesce to MASS MURDER?

165 A grotesquely cruel Democrat US administration -- Truman immediately after WWII ended, 1946 paying the Guatemalan government to allow a US "medical" study (not German Nazi acquisition) to infect mental patients with syphilis and encourage their sexual activity with others "outside" of the study.

And of course, the uncovered news breaks as elections approach, to fan the "hate America" flames.

How 'bout, "Hate Democratic Party's Administrative Torture!"

Good recall, no I didn't remember the name, so thanks.

/You had me until falling back on what can't be ignored, irritatingly obvious brain dead rhetoric such as, "Where is the outrage of the press" and then throwing in Palin for affect.

Ms. Gobblygook Allred, heh3.

She has a reputation on the left for being an eloquent champion for the rights of The Oppressed.

So does Obama.

Maybe he'll drop Bite Me and put her on his next eloquent ticket. Or when Gibbs finally gets the boot, Oba would replace him with Allred.

I didn't know he fucked up THX-1138 too.  One day we'll tell our kids, "I saw George Lucas films before he fucked them up."  And the kids will go, "Awwwww!  Wow!"  And then, "Fuck yeah, grandpa!"

How fortunate for you - now you can continue to ignore what can't be ignored: the true nature of Islam as a religion. And you can continue to condone Islam's apologists and enablers; the main stream media.

Which is a more important story: El Sadr - mass murder and Islam, or Michael Vick's dog fighting? If the press correctly believed Vick's behavior to be reprehensible then how much worse was El Sadr's?

Liberal cognitive dissonance is at times unbelievable to witness.
