— Open Blogger Republican National Committee members are set to vote in two months.
A significant bloc of Republican National Committee members wants embattled chairman Michael Steele to step aside, but the rank and file have failed to settle on a clear alternative, according to Associated Press interviews with committee members.More than four dozen interviews with members of the 168-member central committee found fear that a badly damaged Steele could emerge from the wreckage of a knockdown, drag-out fight to head the party as it challenges President Barack Obama in 2012. While most agree that Steele's time has been rough — and costly — the members also recognize that a leadership fight could overshadow gains that Republicans made in the midterm elections.
For the same reasons Steele's leadership was "rough and costly," we're looking at a leadership fight. Because it's all about Michael Steele. And since it's all about Michael Steele, there is little hope he will bow out and spare the party a leadership battle. After all, it's his time to shine.

With so many missed opportunities, Steele should have been replaced many moons ago. Not that he could do anything directly other than talk, he could have been a very effective burr under the saddle of the Dims, considering the way they've governed over the past two years.
I'd like to nominate SarahCuda for the position. It would serve her well and she could be the official kingmaker. It would also take her off the 2012 presidential ticket, which I think she would lose. Don't get me wrong, she's very effective, but she needs a few more years to rehab her image, which she is currently doing with things like her Alaska show and Fox appearances.

they want him to step aside?
Hey, I've got an idea: since his term is up in a couple of months, why doesn't one of you run against Steele?

Maybe she would do it anyway, but she has no reason to help them out at all. Remember, these are the people who blame her for not winning 12 senate seats and 100 house seats I guess LOL. Odd, when a group trashes you, you are not as likely to help them.

Agreed. My opinion of Rove has decidedly turned negative with his failure to support femal conservatives. He's got a stick up his ass when it comes to women.

The same things that bedevil anyone not currently a Palin fanboy -- occasional malapropisms, the relentlessly chatty, operate-mouth-before-engaging-brain quality of too many interviews -- would work against her as Repub leader.
Besides, it'd take time she doesn't have to spare, and make her far less visible.
Steele has to go. Replace him with some hack who knows how to reach out to the fatcats and is well-trained in the art of mouthing platitudes on the few occasions when he/she has to appear in public.

Another question is why are they having another meeting so soon after the last one in which they made out like they fixed the shitty primary rules.
Perhaps they ALL should go.

My opinion of Robe went to shit much earlier than that. When Bush allowed that "Bush lied" meme to go on forever without an answer I blamed him squarely for that. That is his major function as a political adviser and he blew it. That and all the other similar things that made Bush's presidency a squish can be laid at his feet.
And perhaps that is why he doesn't like real conservative huh?

The Dems had the right model: co-chairs. One goes on the TV and cheerleads for the party and goes to rubber-chicken dinners raising cash. The other wears the green eyeshade and tells the first one what his budget is.
In any case, I think the new RNC chair should be somebody I've never heard of.

I admit that Steele should be replaced. But until the RNC can replace him with a good conservative, perhaps we should keep our reliance on the Tea Party.

That and under him the RNC's fundraising has shriveled up like Hugh Heffner's penis. Meanwhile, Steele has managed to increase the cost of actually raising those diminishing funds.

Yup. That's why I started with "My guess:"
It's the next statewide seat in Ohio.
Blackwell hasn't been lobbying for anything.
He didn't run in this round of elections. Unless he's hoping for VP, I think he's got his eye on Brown's seat.

Especially given Coleman's experience.
I don't know if Miller is even trying to win, I hope he's focusing on precedents. Changing the rules after the election cannot be allowed to stand.
Also, he can screw over that scrunt Murkowski by denying her some seniority.

Well, I think Rove has a pretty good sense of things. Look at what happened to female conservatives/Republicans: The media eviscerates them without mercy (O'Donnell, Angle, Bachmann, Fiorina, Whitman).
If you accept that Rove is a pure consultant and not an ideologue or cheerleader, then it makes sense. He knows what can happen to female conservatives in blue/purple states. So, he sees an easy win being lost.
OK, that's the best Devils Advocate I can do.
