Stupak Cancels/Delays Presser; Dem Leadership Says There Will Be No Deal
— Gabriel Malor

Okay, I thought this morning's press conference with Congressman Bart Stupak would settle the fate of the healthcare bill. He and the leadership were working furiously last night to work out a deal on abortion language.

It turns out the House Pro-Choice Caucus told Pelosi that if she cuts a deal with Stupak, they will vote against the whole mess: the Senate bill, the reconciliation sidecar, and any abortion provision offered to placate Stupak's bloc. So Stupak tried and Pelosi looked like she was going with it, but she's facing a mutiny if she does.

The fact that this occurred like this is great news. It means that Pelosi doesn't have the votes yet. Most counts have her a handful short. By my own count, she has to peel off some of the Stupak folks or she won't get to 216.

My final whip count and all the latest news on the healthcare vote will be up in a bit.

[DrewM]: Stupak is "finished with Pelosi". Does she have the votes without him? How many of his 'gang' stick with him?

3 Bottom line:

The abortion industry continues to own the Dems.  And if they can't get their claws into taxpayer money to kill our children with, there's no deal.

Democrats have been running around furiously telling everyone that "there is no abortion funding".
If the pro-abortion feminists are this pissed off about removing abortion funding, that means democrats have been running around lying to everyone.

Jared Polis (wealthy leftist(D-CO) just said on the radio the other day "there is no funding for abortion in this bill."

Fucking liar.

7 I just watched this guy Cuellar spin the fake CBO numbers on Cavuto whilst in the same breath claim that he's still undecided.

How is that possible?  It seems to me that if he were truly undecided, he wouldn't be going on Fox News and running with the Pelosi spin, would he?

It seemed obvious to me that he was just lying about being undecided.  Are all of them so unpersuasive?

15 I think peolosi called this vote on sunday thinking that it would pressurize the situation and force the maybes to become YES's. Now it is tough and go and she is wrestling with the fact that she is a few short and is thinking whether or not to bring it to the floor and let the chips fall where they may. She thought the pressure of the vote would bring enough on board and so far it has not happened. It could happen in the next 24 hours though.

18 There are moments in time when the Hand of Providence shows itself and reassures us that we are NOT meant to become a Socialist/Marxist Nation.

1. The Battle of Midway, where a string of fortuitous events turned the tide of the war.
2. Pearl Harbor, where the carriers just happened to be out of port the day of the attack, causing the Japanese to return home rather than occupying Hawaii providing them with a launching point for an invasion of the Western US.
3. The Election of Obama, which was about the ONLY thing that could re-invigorate the conservative wing of the Republican Party and awaken our leadership from utter pussification.

... and now this Stupak thing.

If my guess is right, this entire process will NOT end in the takeover of our healthcare system by the Obama regime, but with the utter downfall forever of the far left wing of the Democrat Party.

Once and for all, they have been exposed for who they are.  Never again will a Democrat be able to run as a "moderate" and have anyone believe them that they will govern that way.

That's exactly how they did it in California when spendaholic Dem Gray Davis was originally elected. Bill Clinton showed him how to pick his opponent. (The details aren't pretty; Davis "instructed" California Repubs to knock out the guy who was polling way ahead of Davis on the basis of his pro-choice stance, in favor of a pro-life political loser whom Davis was killing in the polls. California Repubs obeyed, and we got a pro-choice spendaholic Democrat governor who was followed incidentally by the same type of Repub, Governor Schwarz.)

Get on the compute at CNN, ABC, FOX etc and show them where they need to visit to get Congressional contact info.  WE need to show people how to express their frustration in ways the weasels in DC can understand. Something I don't get:

More or less all the Democrats want this bill to pass, the problem is that too many of them don't actually want to vote for it because it would mean political suicide for them.

So what advantage does it serve Pelosi to claim she has all the votes she needs?  Wouldn't the Dems that are still 'undecided' all breath a sigh of relief and come out against the bill, since their votes apparently aren't needed?

The only thing I see as an advantage is the attempt to demoralize the opposition (no, not the Republicans; the constituents) so that they'll stop pestering their congress vermin with calls about how they're going to eat their liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.  But it's just as likely to have the opposite effect and fire people up even further, so I don't see it as a clear advantage, just a possible advantage/possible disadvantage.

So what am I missing?  What's in it for Pelosi to claim she has the votes when she doesn't?

70 If this pile of crap bill does pass, it will be interesting to see the Democrats have to defend all of the various aspects of the plan that they denied or lied about the past few months (e.g., abortion coverage, higher premiums, expanding deficits) while the taxes begin to kick in and all the unintended consequences start (e.g., companies paring back or starting to phase out their health care coverage for employees to deal with the extra taxes/costs) in the midst of horrible economic conditions in the country.  Because the bill is truly this bad and it the "benefits" don't start for four years while the "negatives" (e.g., new taxes) start immediately, it gives me some hope that this bill could actually be the rare one that is overturned in the next 12 months.

I think the Democrats are committing political suicide and at this point, this will be true whether the bill passes or not since much of the public has been watching their never-ending attempt to get this bill passed despite 70+% of the country wanting them to craft a different, more bipartisan bill.  I know the Democrats don't really care because they think about their agenda over the long term, but they may have done significant long-term damage to the Democrat brand (in the minds of Independents and some moderate Democrats) with their efforts.  The payoffs, accounting gimmicks, half-truths, and outright lies are bound to cause them problems for the foreseeable future, such as their credibility in criticizing the GOP.  Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part since a good chunk of the American populace let's me down on a regular basis with their bad decisions, such as in 2008.

76 Levy: "Contract for New York"....similar to the one in '94
"we need some very deep structural reform"  "most candidates don't want to say this because they don't want to lose the unions going in"
he said "they aren't going to vote for me anyway"

Kudlow:  "you let the cat out of the bag" the public employee benefit unions are bankrupting us.

Levy:  You have to declare a "fiscal state of emergency which give you extraordinary powers in extraordinary times"

Kudlow saying former governor in the 1970's did something similar and he asked if Levy was following this model.

Levy wants an independent control board for the state.  Put everything in one bill "the bill to save New York" and you either vote yes to save New York or you vote no and we go into bankruptcy"

Kudlow keeps referencing Christie in Jersey.

Levy reminds Kudlow that his county, suffolk county, is bigger than 11 states.
"I inherited a budget in 2004 which they said was the biggest deficit in county history"  "I've shown it can be done, we can do it in Albany as well if you have a person who knows what they are doing, knows what to do and can implement it"
"The public employee unions are too embedded and too powerful.  Someone has to run on a specific mandate.  These guys don't want to have change.  You've got to have the leader who wants to take on the fight."

Kudlow "yeah it's going to be hand to hand combat"

Levy:  "One bill, one vote and that is how you will save the state."
his 10 pt plan includes a capital gains holiday for investment.

The controversy over the abortion funding should be THE LEAST OF YOUR WORRIES,PEOPLE.

Jesuschristonacrutch.

It's an abuse of power. There are so many items in these bills that exapnd government intrusion, including the IRS.  Not only that, but there's a shitload of funding that has NOTHING to do with "healthcare".  Payoffs, kickbacks, and shit like this:

Sec. 1408.  Elimination of unintended application of cellulosic biofuel producer credit. Adds an additional revenue provision.  In 2008, Congress enacted a $1.01 per gallon tax credit for the production of biofuel from cellulosic feedstocks in order to encourage the development of new production capacity for biofuels that are not derived from food source materials.  Congress is aware that some taxpayers are seeking to claim the cellulosic biofuel tax credit for unprocessed fuels, such as black liquor.  The provision would limit eligibility for the tax credit to processed fuels (i.e., fuels that could be used in a car engine or in a home heating application).

Sec. 1409.  Codification of economic substance doctrine and penalties.  Adds an additional revenue provision.  The economic substance doctrine is a judicial doctrine that has been used by the courts to deny tax benefits when the transaction generating these tax benefits lacks economic substance.  The courts have not applied the economic substance doctrine uniformly. The provision would clarify the manner in which the economic substance doctrine should be applied by the courts and would impose a penalty on understatements attributable to a transaction lacking economic substance.

Sec. 1410.  Time for payment of corporate estimated taxes.  Provides for a one-time adjustment to corporate estimated taxes for payments made during calendar year 2014.

Sec. 1411.  No impact on Social Security trust funds.  Provides that Title II of the Social Security Act (the old age, survivor, and disability benefits program (OASDI)) is not amended or modified by the bill.

Subtitle F – Other Provisions

Sec. 1501.  TAA for communities. Appropriates $500 Million a year for fiscal years 2010 through 2014 in the Community College and Career Training Grant program for community colleges to develop and improve educational or career training programs. Ensures that each state receives at least 0.5 percent of the total funds appropriated.

Part I—Investing in Students and Families

Section 2101. Federal Pell Grants.  Amends the Higher Education Act to include mandatory funding for the Pell Grant.  This provides additional mandatory funding to augment funds appropriated to increase the federal maximum Pell Grant award by the change in the Consumer Price Index.  The mandatory component of the funding is determined by inflating the previous yearÂ’s total and subtracting the maximum award provided for in the appropriations act for the previous year or $4860, whichever is greater.  Beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year, the maximum Pell award will be at the 2017-2018 level.

Section 2102. Student Financial Assistance.  This section provides $13.5 billion in mandatory appropriations to the Federal Pell Grant program.

Section 2103. College Access Challenge Grant Program.  This section amends section 786 of the Higher Education Act by authorizing and appropriating $150 million for fiscal years 2010 through 2014 for the College Access Challenge Grant program created under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007.  Provides that the allotment for each State under this section for a fiscal year shall not be an amount that is less than 1.0 percent of the total amount appropriated for a fiscal year.

Section 2104.  Investment in Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions.  This section amends section 371(b) of the Higher Education Act by extending funding for programs under this section created under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 for programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and minority-serving institutions through 2019, including programs that help low-income students attain degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics by the following annual amounts: $100 million to Hispanic Serving Institutions, $85 million to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, $15 million to Predominantly Black Institutions, $30 million to Tribal Colleges and Universities, $15 million to Alaska, Hawaiian Native Institutions, $5 million to Asian American and Pacific Islander Institutions, and $5 million to Native American non-tribal serving institutions.

Part II—Student Loan Reform

Section 2201.  Termination of Federal Family Education Loan Appropriations.  This section terminates the authority to make or insure any additional loans in the Federal Family Education Loan program after June 30, 2010.

Section 2202. Termination of Federal loan Insurance Program.  This section is a conforming amendment with regard to the termination of the FFEL program, limiting Federal insurance to those loans in the Federal Family Education Loan program for loans first disbursed prior to July 1, 2010.

Section 2203. Termination of Applicable Interest Rates.  This section makes a conforming amendment with regard to the termination of the FFEL program limiting interest rate applicability to Stafford, Consolidation, and PLUS loans to those loans made before July 1, 2010.

Section 2204. Termination of Federal payments to Reduce Student Interest Costs.  This section makes a conforming amendment with regard to the termination of the FFEL program by limiting subsidy payments to lenders for those loans for which the first disbursement is made before July 1, 2010.

Section 2205. Termination of FFEL PLUS Loans.  This section makes a conforming change with regard to the termination of the FFEL program for federal PLUS loans by prohibiting further FFEL origination of loans after July 1, 2010.

Section 2206. Federal Consolidation Loans.  This section makes conforming changes with regard to the termination of the FFEL program for federal consolidation loans.  This section also provides that, for a 1 year period, borrowers who have loans under both the Direct Lending program and the FFEL program, or who have loans under either program as well as loans that have been sold to the Secretary, may consolidate such loans under the Direct Lending program regardless of whether such borrowers have entered repayment on such loans.

Section 2207. Termination of Unsubsidized Stafford loans for Middle-Income Borrowers.  This section makes conforming changes with regard to the termination of the FFEL program for Unsubsidized Stafford loans by prohibiting further FFEL origination of loans after July 1, 2010.

Section 2208. Termination of Special Allowances.  This section makes conforming changes with regard to the termination of the FFEL program by limiting special allowance payments to lenders under the FFEL program to loans first disbursed before July 1, 2010.

Section 2209. Origination of Direct Loans at Institutions Outside the United States.  This section provides for the origination of federal Direct Loans at institutions located outside of the United States, through a financial institution designated by the Secretary.

Section 2210.  Conforming amendments.  This section makes conforming technical changes with regard to the termination of the FFEL program for Department of Education agreements with Direct Lending institutions.

Section 2211. Terms and Conditions of Loans.  This section makes conforming technical changes with regard to the termination of the FFEL program to clarify the terms and conditions of Direct Loans.

Section 2212. Contracts.  This section directs the Secretary to award contracts for servicing federal Direct Loans to eligible non-profit servicers.  In addition, this section provides that for the first 100,000 borrower loan accounts, the Secretary shall establish a separate pricing tier.  Specifies that the Secretary is to allocate the loan accounts of 100,000 borrowers to each eligible non-profit servicer.  The section also permits the Secretary to reallocate, increase, reduce or terminate an eligible non-profit servicerÂ’s allocation based on the performance of such servicer.  In addition, this section appropriates mandatory funds to the Secretary to be obligated for administrative costs of servicing contracts with eligible non-profit servicers.  This section also requires the Secretary to provide technical assistance to institutions of higher education participating or seeking to participate in the Direct Lending program.  This section appropriates $50 million for fiscal year 2010 to pay for this technical assistance. Additionally, this section authorizes the Secretary to provide payments to loan servicers for retaining jobs at location in the United States where such servicers were operating on January 1, 2010.  This section appropriates $25,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2010 and 2011 for such purpose.

Section 2213.  Agreements with State-Owned Banks.   This section amends Part D of Title IV to direct the Secretary to enter into an agreement with an eligible lender for the purpose of providing Federal loan insurance on student loans made by state-owned banks.

Section 2214.  Income-Based Repayment.  The section amends the Income-Based Repayment program to cap student loan payments for new borrowers after July 1, 2014 to 10% of adjusted income, from 15% percent, and to forgive remaining balances after 20 years of repayment, from 25 years.

This bill is chock full of more taxpayer-funded waste for things totally unrelated to “health care reform”.

Politically speaking, for the good of the country, that would be best- lets face it- we cannot stop passage of this bill WITHOUT Democrats siding against it.

Setting a backroom deal that promises easy reelection in return for killing this isn't bad- it also saves $$ for Republicans to spend against the Democrats who stupidly voted for it.

Not to mention if they go back on their word later in the year, the promise is void and they get trounced.

98 It is not (nor was it ever) hyperbole to say that the Democratic Party is the "party of death". We see this more clearly than ever as the passage of this "health care" bill is within reach, if only they were willing to remove abortion funding language; yet, they refuse to do so. Why? The very essence of the Democratic Party, the glue which binds them, is the death of unborn children, and for most Democrats with no restrictions or limitations, including late-term abortions and the gruesome, partial-birth variety.

Well shes within the margin of error AGAIN against Campbell and Fiorina.

even DailyKos' polls show that.

She may very well retire.

What would be a disaster for California Dems is if Feinstein decides Brown is a liability and retires to jump into the governors race.

That happens, the Democrats risk losing BOTH Senate seats in California- Fiorina and Campbell can split up and run against Dems instead of each other. There are very, very few widely known California Democrats with wide approval- Boxer and Brown WERE but their numbers have tanked. Glaring Nuisence and Tony Villar are despised in opposite parts of the state, and the Democratic leadership in Sacremento have a 16% approval rating.

I really, really hope Feinstein jumps to challenge Brown.

We certainly know that but the abortion funding issue is the one causing a rift between the different Democrat factions so it could potentially stop this thing.  Pounding on your list or the true cost of the health care bill should also be done today to try to scare many of the House Democrats in right-leaning districts from voting for it.

The GOP and those calling various Reps. need to focus on a couple of broad themes today in their attempts to get enough Democrats to vote "No" on this thing, such as the CBO score on the plan with everything included actually increasing the deficit, not decreasing it like that fraudulent scoring that was released yesterday with its ridiculous assumptions and use of the 10-year period when the costs are at their absolute lowest.  Also, the fact that fees and taxes will kick in immediately, while nearly all of the so-called "benefits" don't start for four years, which won't sell well with even those citizens supporting this bill.

114 You know, as much as those of us who are dead-set against this ObamaCare Bill are holding up Stupak and his bunch as some great 'hope' against the passage of this abomination to our Constitution ... it's only ONE word he and they are against.  Abortion. I am NOT comforted or inspired by Stupak's opposition. While I am with them on forbidding the federal funds for abortion, it's NOT the only thing wrong with this thing. The whole thing is B.A.D.!!     Damn it! We are back to a 'single issue' ruling the political debate here.  Abortion ... the killing and butchering of the unborn inside the sanctuary of the womb.     But the bill on whole is an abortion of all that we have had and known in this republic. And it is pretty much a point of no return once implemented on many levels, from healthcare, to taxes, to controlling higher education in this country.     This bill is nothing about 'healthcare' for the people in this country. It is about fundamentally transforming us from a republic "of, by and for the People" to a State dictatorship over the people and the very system that runs this country and keeps it thriving.     It's NOT just one word that's wrong with the bill, Congressman Stupak. It IS the ENTIRE bill and its intentions.

On NPR this morning, Juan Williams identified the reason for the lack of public support for Obamacare as a "failure of the White House message machine". This is both revealing and hilarious: revealing in that it shows Juan is completely invested in the mantra that opposition to liberal agenda items is always based on ignorance and mis-information.

But also hilarious in that while Juan clearly intends his remark to deflect criticism from Obama, which is basically NPR's mission statement, he accidently nailed the true culprit for those of us who are perversely very well-informed about the identity of the true "White House Message Machine"!

Besides the gratutitous slap at the American public (oh, and Sarah Palin), the whole coverage on NPR was about Democrats: what Democrats want, what Democrats fear, why Democrats have failed to garner support, what deals Democrats have had to do... makes you wonder exectly what fucking nation's public that "National Public" Radio thinks it is broadcasting to, doesn't it?  Is there perhaps a newly-formed country called "Democrapia"?

The odds of Feinstein doing what I said earlier are probably 1 in 4, but if Brown keeps sucking at his chances (he should, with his careeer and name recognition, be 10pts + ahead of Whitman Samplers) that will improve.

The fact that states like California and Illinois are making races out of both Senate and Governor seats SHOULD be the wakeup call that Bayh was warning people about the day after Brown won.

The fact that these politicians seem to be relying on the very short attention span of the voting public scares me.

If HC passes, and the economy slightly improves, and the Dems manage to keep both houses w/ comfortable margins, we have absolutely no one to blame but ourselves.

“Since launching his campaign for health care reform with a White House forum on March 5th of last year, Mr. Obama has delivered 54 speeches and statements on the issue.

“He has done health care events in 12 states, some of them more than once. He’s done 9 Town Hall Meetings on health care and made it the focus of 13 of his Saturday radio and Internet addresses…

“Our CBS News tally shows Mr. Obama has made 471 speeches, remarks and comments on every issue under the sun since taking office 423 days ago. His 54 statements on health care reform mean that better than 1 in 10 was on health care. Since the first of this year, it’s been nearly 2 in 10.”

125 She doesn't have the votes. The last two weeks have been a massive psyops campaign to demoralize the opposition and create the perception of inevitability. Standard Saul Alinsky tactic. In other words a giant game of chicken or an all-in bluff - to use a poker metaphor. Keep up the pressure. Victory is within our grasp.

126 It seems like last year there were times when Juan Williams was on Fox that he was almost wandering off the liberal plantation.  But since healthcare has become the national (forced) obsession, he has "come home".  Maybe somebody at NPR yanked his chain, real hard.

Fiorina, Campbell, DeVore, and Whitman have their ears to the ground and smelled the blood in the water. Stakes are exceptionally high for them to fuck it up, but it does happen.

That being said, Boxer having approval ratings approaching Harry Reid coupled with the in-state revolts against the unions and taxes bodes well for the Republicans. She needs a second wind, and barring an unheard of economic expansion and total implosion by the right, its very unlikely.

Can u imagine..having to be around that lying Bitch for any extended amount of time  Posted by: ATEXAN   You know, I would absolutely love to see this happen also. A major kick in that Botoxed hag-face. Gov. Huckabee on FOX has said it correctly in the last 24 hrs about the 'lesser' Congressmembers. They have been pretty much held hostage down there in DC, away from their districts and the fact the majority of the people they represent are yelling at them to do their damn jobs and vote NO on this thing. Huck is calling it The Stockholm Syndrome ... where the captive become aligned with their captors and start seeing things they way they do. On many levels this whole process has been a lesson on how we have willingly lost control of the government WE are supposed to be running. But even more so, it's a lesson in how our government in DC has completely lost touch and contact with We The People.

132 Kudlow with Rick Lazio

I want to get your reaction to one big ominibus bill (levy's idea)

Lazio:  You have to go out and do things you can do without legislative approval.  Cause Shelly silver is really in charge.  Lazio thinks Levy's idea is a credible idea.
You need legislative approval to get he kind of impoundment that you need.
You can certainly go after the 42 billion dollar medicade budget.  The commonents of the budget 65% health care, education, debt service, head count are killing NY.

Medicade the primary issue.  It has the biggest base of losses and growing at an unsustainable rate.   We need to harmonize the reimbursement rates.  The rates are off by 2 or 3 hundred percent.   Finally we need to aggressively go after the fraud.

Lazio, you have to go after wages and here is the problem.   They've got contracts.  The majority of contracts are up for negotiation 4 months after the governor takes office.  We need to go back and revisist pensions.  Productivity.  We need to reduce the size of the state empoloyee workforce.   We need to drive that headcount down.

Kudlow is saying "isn't there a way to freeze and roll back".   Isn't it time for something like a ten percent cutback across the board in the volume of government wages"   "If we get the legal authority we can do the emergency powers.  Even if you get concessions

We cannot afford the government we have and we are losing our tax base.  We have lsot 500,00 private sector workers this year.  Jobs are leaving, people are leaving and when they leave we have a smaller tax base than we would already have.
Kudlow:  "NYS tax 9.87% and if you live in the city you are over 12%.   City, State and Federal you are well through 50% on your tax rate."

Lazio:  "We need a 2$ property tax cap.  We have got to create the discipline to drive down the local taxes.  When I am governor I will veto any new mandate that doesn't come with a check from the state.  Need to drive down corporate taxes.  We need to send the signal that we understand why business has left and we have fixed our ways."

didn't hear the rest of the Kudlow interview cause I was called away.

However, Kudlow was very hard on Lazio and very gracious with Levy.  It was obvious he was favoring Levy.   He then came back from the break and said he was thankful for the interview and likes them both and is not in favor of either.  so I guess I wasn't the only one who figured out he was pro Levy.

Someone I respect told me "no one likes Lazio" and that "Cumo will eat Lazio alive since he lost so badly to Hillary when he was winning"

Levy had a lot of general ideas and Lazio had a lot more specific ideas.  Kudlow chastised Lazio when he tried to say that Levy was upstate when a huge tax increase went through and that Levy voted for that tax increase.  Kudlow said "can we pleas have a clean campaign and not bring up stuff from year's ago"....it was at that point that we knew Kudlow took sides and was favoring Levy.  lazio was absolutely right to bring up that point, Levy has been in the state government and his record there should be on the table, not just his Suffolk County record.

So now Kudlow has to keep saying "I'm not taking sides"...but he already did, you can't take it back Larry and it was disappointing for this regular listener.

133 Here's a primary question that just popped into my head watching Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts) going on and on about all the people who don't have insurance. How is this any of their freaking business in the first place? Why is this a federal matter? Kensington, this is definitely the correct question to ask. But with all due respect, it has been THE primary question all along. "None of their freaking business" is the whole point of the tea parties, the town hall uprisings, the entire massive pushback against this thing.

134 Strategically, I think the pro-choicers bungled it. Abortion has never been paid for by public funds; why do they insist on it now?

*pondering*

Maybe they need a reason to vote against the bill. That would aid them with pro-abortion voters AND with fiscal conservatives.

Should we say "well played"?

They have to have at least one issue they can use to call themselves "Blue Dogs" on. After all, the press can not continue to call them "moderates" like that commie from GA-2 when they have an ACU rating for the last two years of 8 and 4.

137 I guess this is as good as any place to confess..I didn,t do my part..I set and did nothing while our liberties were slowly chipped away, and now awaken to this Big Rattfuck we are in. But i,m awake now as most of you others are..and feel no matter how the vote goes..America will not become a 3rd world country, this may take a little time..so i,ve told myself..i,m not going to give up..till every one of these so called progressive SOB,s are out of our Government..and the Constitution is again the law of the land.

138 It's so funny.  NY complains about down state but from what I just heard from Levy and Lazio, upstate is a total disastrous mess, heading toward a detroit like scenario.  So, probably what is keeping them propped up is all those down staters working their butts off and paying enormous taxes at all levels.

The callers are finally attacking Shoomer.  They are questioning if he is only involved in his DC power trip cause he "seems to have forgotten about the needs and desires of regular NYer's, his constituency".  the up staters are particularly upset with Chuck as he made a huge deal of building some factory upstate for some company and then the company never came to the state.  He has to be voted out.

141 I found this little gem in Fox's "Speaker's Lobby:

The forecast is for 74 degrees and sunny. The cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin are on the verge of erupting into a sea of pink.

Since I posted that my peach trees were running about three weeks late on blooming this year I thought I would check on Washington's cherry trees.  Yes they are running late as well.

Ain't that global warming something else.

BTW, I have a cherry tree and it hasn't even started to bud yet and DC is quiet a ways North of me.

143 I wish that witch hadn't said tens of thousands.  She put that in the mind of the reps and when they didn't see it, those idiots assumed Americans were for the bill.  They don't stop and think that the economy is bad and a trip to DC is tough for most Americans who are trying to keep their jobs, pay their bills and take care of their own kids.
