— Ace Instapundit: Three quarters of million bucks for three, count 'em, three airports in Stupak's district.
Maybe say hello to one of Stupak's opponents in November, Dan Benishek.
Stupak... Now making the odd claim that his own language, which he appeared on HardBall 60 times to promote, does not "promote life."

There really can't be anything lower than a man who proclaims to care about aborted babies, then sells out for something so meaningless as an airport with his name on it. Seriously...do you think Satan is working overtime tonight to prepare a fire just for Stupak? I do and that makes me smile. Burn. In. Hell.

Fiscally Responsible Pro-Life Frauds
Frauds the whole lot of you. You claim the mantle of fiscal responsibility yet you'll vote for a Health Care Bill the cost of which you know is a deception. And Pro-Life Democrat it is obvious that term is a oxymoron. A promise of an Executive Order. And to think you think you're smarter than us. There is nothing for you to hide behind no excuse will be accepted. You defied the will of the people who put you in office. And by doing so you have done the American people a great service you have demonstrated that all Democrats are freedom loathing statists and the enemies of our individual liberty. Enjoy the remainder of your terms of office you will not be elected to anymore after today.I am not wholly unsympathetic to your plight you may find this useful if there is a small measure of justice in this world it would be that thanks to the ruinous policies you have chosen to support you will find yourselves unemployed for a good long while.

oh and i forgot to add, we are going to lose out AAA status and loans are going to be even costlier.
In 2008, I thought, let Obama win the presidency, the course of events coming will destroy him and make him a failed president, it looks like the next president will get it even worse. He will be handed a country with two terrible options, default, or cut so many entitlements that their party will never be out of power for 30+ years.

To everyone saying the Dems are going to be destroyed keep in mind they just added 30 million people to the plantation.
I know ace hates this, but i've been saying this would pass, this "no/undecided" vote was just posturing for money. Now that it is passed, you need to understand that people who depend on this bill are going to be firmly in the democratic camp, along with those who depend on medicaid, medicare, and social security. The first party to try and repeal it will be destroyed at the polls, maybe not this november, but after the shock of this whole process wears off. Just look at how pissed the elderly were with this bill, not because it was a shit bill but because it TOOK money from their medicare. They were mad that their entitlement was being raided to give to someone else, not the concept of being dependent on government entitlements.
I guess the whole point is moot though. America is going to have massive problems in the next 10 years, we can't run permanent trillion dollar deficits and expect good things to happen.

I regret having to reward a conservative Democrat with being put out of office for his party's actions, but this is the only way to truly make the point clear. It also sends a clear message to the Republicans that they had better devote themselves to diminishing the impact of this treacherous bill if not outright repeal or they will face the same fate.
Time for talk is over, now is the time for direct action. Defeat the establishment candidates in the primaries and vote Republican in November. Even if the Senate is still hostage to the Democrats, the House can put the brakes on this crypto-muslim President's disassembly of the United States.

I'd like to say he'll be hurt by this, but let's be honest, there's not a chance in hell he didn't get promised some sort of back-up position if he gets voted out.
I like the idea idea of sending 30 pieces of some sort of coins/tokens to his office, though--just to rub it in his face. He has to know he's probably about to get voted out and this is the only real opportunity to make a big deal out of this instead of letting him duck away without being humiliated. It's not threatening. It's not violent and it doesn't look like some sort of wacko fringe protest by people who are just angry.
It's short, simple, and gets the point across. I'd like to churn this up into something large scale.

Sharpton, in response to Rivera's question about socialism, "In a way the people voted for socialism when the voted for Barack Obama". Paraphrasing, because I'm still in shock.
I hate to break goodwin's law, but this reminds me of a scene from "Downfall", which despite the viral youtube parody was a great film(i love foreign films). In it one of the Generals is asking Hitler to allow him to begin to evacuate civillians from Berlin because the Red Army is on the outskirts of the city. Hitler says no, and explains in darwininian fashion that they deserve to die, because events have shown them to be the weaker people. The general goes to Goebells to plead with him to pursuade hitler to change his mind.
Goebels says, "I feel no sympathy. I repeat, I feel no sympathy! The German people chose their fate. That may surprise some people. Don't fool yourself. We didn't force the German people. They gave us a mandate, and now their little throats are being cut! "
I've been thinking about that line as this process has been going on.

Stupak got up and urged everybody to vote against his own language. What a backstabbing weasel he's turned out to be.
The USA is broken. This Congress has put the Constitution through the shredder, and all efforts to check them have failed. The US Constitution is a dead letter if you ask me. The government described in that document has no resemblance to what we behold today.
None.
What a pity that our forefathers came here to escape Europe, but their kids decided to steer the ship of state back there.
We're hardpressed to correct this. If Congress can become this lawless and irresponsible and get away with it the genie's out of the bottle. I had to laugh out loud when the Speaker Pro Tem scolded Boehner to "respect the dignity of this body" during Boehner's Shakespearean performance. Can't have that -- let's get back to the more grounded Pelosian mendacity.
Fuck this government.

Agreed, that's why I haven't understood why folks think that voting for this bill and against their constituencies is suicidal. This is what Obama has been saying to them all along:
"Vote for the bill, we'll make sure that plenty of money gets funneled to your campaign, we'll make sure that our high rolling donors have your name at the top of the lists. If you lose your campaign, no sweat, we'll set you up in the administration or with some sweet lobbying job here in DC. Stick with us and we'll take care of you."
"But if you think that voting against this bill will endear you to your constituents and help in your re-election, think again. You will receive no money from the DNC, all of our major donors and fronts will blacklist you, and without money you will lose your re-election bid. You will be persona non grata in this party and you will have to go back to East Hogwallow or whatever little hick town you came from and your career in politics will be over, finished, dead."
"Your choice."

Bumped from an old thread.....
Throughout the day I kept thinking of the Social Security reforms that GWB proposed at what seems like eons ago. We had a Republican Senate & House back then. Everything in place process-wise to do it. But it didnÂ’t happen. Why? Because Republicans HAD NO BALLS. They were simply too afraid to give up those juicy steak dinners on K Street to risk upsetting the apple cart.
Perhaps they will grow a pair if they should find themselves so fortunate to be in charge of the government again.
This article provides fun reading for how it could go down:
However, if they revert to familiar prevent defense territory, and concern themselves with nonsense like outlawing internet gambling and such, the Republican party should and will implode.

That's part of the story. The GOP's performance in Congress in Bush's second term was equally as lousy and to blame for the current problems.

Stupak will get primaried. This state is circling the drain, and he clearly isn't supporting it. Understand, like most states, the healthcare industry here is one of the few bright spots.
Not for long.

Medicare part D. Bailouts. Cash to the people. "See, I'm nice man." Bush and his father never understood conservatism. "Kinder gentler" was a stupid way of allowing Dems to define the terms of the debate. It's kinder to insist on results not good intentions. Neither Bush figured out that Reagan gave them the playbook. With all the arrogance of big government Dems, they thought they knew better.
All Bush II had to do was be a conservative.
This one really irks me: Nationalizing airport security. As if this would magically make them better and us more safe. What did it do? It made it to where we can't fire them. What else? We can't actually look for terrorists, because the government can't profile. Instead, we've spent billions on a dog and pony kabuki dance that does nothing but slow us down and cost money. While we have to take shit from a whole new class of pissant bureaucrats.

He never caved, he was going to vote for it the whole time. The fact that he voted against his own amendment in the motion to recommit is proof that he was always on board. He was just holding out for the best deal he could get, and I'm not sure that he got anything. This airport stuff was most likely in the works for a long time, for some odd reason his dumbass staff released the news on Friday when they should have waited to release it in a few weeks.

Obama: "Tonight America proved that it is still capable of doing big things."
Sorry, Barry. A nation that votes itself into a self-serving largesse it can ill-afford has not done a big thing. Considering that the real pupose of it was to enhance a phalanx of patronage centered around a money train hurdling through the halls of central power, it is not a very big thing indeed. It is, in fact, an amazingly expensive small thing.
Thanks, moron.

Spending on "improvements" at small regional and private aviation airports has very little impact on the surrounding communities and what little it has is very temporary while out of town specialty contractors are doing whatever is to be done and buy lunch locally or stay in a motel for a few weeks. Airport work is pretty specialized.
All he did was buy himself a couple hundred votes from FBO operators and their families, if that. He got a lousy deal. That won't be enough to save him.

Yeah, you're right. That old video of Stupak saying that he would ultimately support the bill proved that he was always on board, while enjoying any benefits that would be tossed his way by Pelosi and Obama (e.g., airport money) to help solidify his vote. Of course, he obviously liked all the national attention he got, as he pretended to be a principled pro-lifer. The guy is a world-class douche.

First, the Media will worship Obama even more now, and that will have women, along with gays, Blacks, and Hispanics turning out in record numbers for the One. Since they voted for him last time, they'll vote for his lackeys this time.
Second, Dems will ram through instant Amnesty for about 50 million illegals, those here (20 million) and another 30 million to come. They don't care about you ... because its one man, one vote, one time.
Third, Dems will massively fraud the elections. Expect the New Black Panther party beating the holy hell out of White voters, and other stuff. With a Black President and a Black Attorney General, who dropped all the charges after they pled guilty to voter intimidation, of the New Black Panther Party, what do you expect.
Fourth, all Tea Partiers will face not only mobs of Farrakhan Nation of Islam goons and SEIU goons and so on, but the condemnation of the media as "racists" who are fair game for anyone to beat or kill.
Fifth, if it looks like polling is too bad for even these measures, Obama will simply suspend elections and rule by executive order. Come on, he's not even a real cultural American. This is why he loves Chavez, Castro, NutJob, and so on.

383 I would, but my representative voted against this, and is facing a bit of a run from the D in this district (who has always reminded me of Al Bore since the moment I met him during his first run -- starey eyes, clammy hands, uses the Jesus fish symbol on his campaign stuff...very bad vibe off that one). The colleges just luv him however. Said D opponent (who is a doctor he'll have everyone to know) has been a long time proponent of universal healthcare. Heh, wonder if he'll run on that platform this time? I plan on giving him a bit of a hard time.
Anyway, I've got plenty of other folks to go after at their little campaign rallies, so no, I'm not going to harsh on my rep. The one heartening thing about this state is: it's a target rich environment.

427 Ushering in a depression sounds pretty "big" to me.
Oh, this thing is "big" in many ways. Barry was selling at as Big Thing in marbled Olympian terms. He'd tell you it's a historic, lofty accomplishment.
It's hardly so high-minded, though, as you perceive. The motives are base and cynical -- this is a power grab. If it stands, the fabric of this country will be forever altered. It will be gamed.
Such is the rationale behind it, so it's a base and self-serving rationale. Doing Big Things for the people, what a sham.
These people cannot be stomached when you can read throught their words. This press conference of Dems on the TV right now is so damn hard to bear!
Posted by: Cowboy at March 21, 2010 08:13 PM (zwrlc)
The democrats might be smiling and partying right now, but when they get home and close the front door behind them, they're probably going to say "oh shit!"
They know they've screwed the pooch on this one. The legal challenges are going to keep this front and center in the news so the voters won't be forgetting about what happened when November rolls around.

Hey, a little love if you please for Marcy Kaptur OH09, Da Stupe's #2. She sold out too, and didn't even get an airport. You could stampede cattle through the ones she's got and hardly scratch a Cessna.
