I posted this on the ONT but since it's dead I'll re-post it here. It's about people who don't like what Glenn Beck has been saying lately:

The constant "Republicans are JUST like Demecrats" shit is getting annoying.

Does anybody think that if we had a President McCain or a President Graham we wouldn't already have health care reform, cap & trade and the closure of Gitmo? They all would've passed with bipartisan support and right now we'd be working on comprehensive immigration reform. Granted, the Republican versions of "reform" would be slightly less draconian but they'd still be horrible. Like Bush's no child left behind and medicare reform.

For every DeMint there two or three McCains and Grahams.

As for progressive Republicans -- we've had plenty of them. Teddy Roosevelt, Nixon and both Bushes were progressives. So is Ahnuld from Caleefornya. There's the Maine twins. Sandra Day O'Conner. I could go on and on.

I'm getting sick of the GOP brand. Maybe Beck is using bad examples but his thesis is basically sound. The GOP has been steadily drifting away from the visions of our Founding Fathers for years and shows no sign reversing course. Disliking Beck is no reason to ignore it.

I don't know that I'd group in Bush as a "progressive Republican." I don't think "compassionate conservatism" is necessarily the same thing.

33 Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck  were in Tulsa yesterday. LINK

Excerpt:

For all of Beck’s lecturing about the country’s founding fathers, the crowd craved Palin. Floor seats for the event cost about $150. As one woman said, “It’s not too much for me to see Sarah.”

The crowd jumped to its feet when Rich, who performed at the 2008 GOP convention in Minneapolis, introduced Palin. She walked across the stage in a sleek black coat with silver sequins edging the bottom and jeans and stood in front of a translucent podium.

“Oklahoma, do you love your freedom?” Palin asked.

Every morning I wake up and wonder how my government is going to rip me off today.  We are facing threats the founding fathers could not fathom, we have to hope the checks and balances they put in place will hold.  What keeps me awake nights is thinking that the checks & balances would be enough, but that the traitors currently running at least two branches of the federal govt, and the press, will just ignore the rule of law and start ruling by fiat.

It was Valerie Jarrett (a crook from Chicago and an Obama insider but that's redundant) who said right before the inauguration last year that Obama was, "ready to rule".  That wasn't just a slip of the tongue, it was a freudian slip.

47 Hollowpoint: "Those of us who don't need to get up at 5am to milk the cows really have no use for an earlier sunrise and sunset. Having it go dark at 4:30pm in late fall sucks." You seem confused on two counts: 1) You don't get an earlier sunrise with daylight savings time, you get a later sunrise. That is, my 7 year old has to board the school bus in the dark so he can enjoy an extra hour of daylight in which to lay on the couch with his Nintendo DS. It (theoretically) saves on the light bill. 2) If "having it go dark at 4:30 in the fall sucks", then you would want to stay on Daylight Savings Time, not do away with it.

The cow is the greatest domesticated animal of them all.  Look at all the noble cow gives us!  His hide, his glorious meat, his bones.  How many animals have a delicious tongue??  Even his copius dung is of great use to bring fertility to the soil, allowing greater crops of grain for distilling of precious vokda.

Though I must say, the pig is also a very fine beast.  It is almost magical how many fine gustatory treats can be made from its various bits.  Something for everyone, really.  As a black friend of mine says - you can eat them from the rooter to the tooter.  Alas - his stink is truly prodigious.

beef ribs are blasphemy too...

Wow, from a Texan too!

Some of my wife's relative say that any BBQ besides beef is blasphemy. Anyway, I have never been able to get ribs to come out right. The closest I have ever came was trying to follow the directions this black guy gave me who came around trying to sell stuff one time (we wound up sitting at my pool drinking beer and talking shit).

He said you had to boil then first to partially cook them and then grill them over high heat to get them done the rest of the way.  I tried that and they were "fall off the bone" juicy and tendor but didn't have the flavor I liked.

Currently my favorite BBQ on a grill is pork loin wrapped in foil initially with CHS BBQ sauce in the foil. I cook that on the grill for 45 min then remove the foil and grill straight up about 5 min on each side.

That works out to be "cut it with a fork" tender and still spicy. As for beef on the grill. That where rib-eye comes in to play and putting any kind of sauce on a steak IS blasphemy.

DST = Good.

I'd rather the rooster crow at 8am than 7am.

I was mistaken about AZ though- I thought they stayed on DST all year; turns out they stay on Standard Time.  Might be good for them because of the unbearably hot summers though.

Here in MN, the sun stays up a long time in Summer, but a short time in Winter.  Come June 21st, sunrise will be at 5:26am and sunset at 9:03pm.  December 21st sunrise is at 7:48am, sunset at 4:33pm.  I'd rather that December sunrise and sunset come an hour later.

I do kind of like started a round of golf at 6pm and being able to finish.

91 91,

I don't shoot golf because it takes too many for a meal and I don't know how to cook them anyway, but you're right about the daylight, I usually don't start fishing until 4 or 5pm.

Posted by: 'Nam Grunt at March 14, 2010 10:46 AM (QwzXa)

92 Unless I go offshore then it's daylight because of the distance involved about 60 or 70 miles out.

I'll try that if I can find the Dale's Seasoning. I called it up on the net and looked at it and I can not ever remember seeing it in any store's around here.

If I can't find it I'll try the 24 hour marinade in something else.

94 95 Vic,

It's everywhere look in Market Basket or Kroger's, even in wallyworld and it's "dale's Seasoning" on the bottle.

96 97,

How 'bout I pack up my grilling kit and come to you and cook for everyone, no charge just buy the entree and I'll have everyone slapping each other after it's done. LOL

Been here in AZ for almost 20 years, and I do like not changing clocks. On the down-side, since most others do try to mess with the natural rhythm of things, twice a year I have to figure out when things are going to show up on satellite TV.

I think most of the reasons I've heard for the creation of Savings Time are BS. I'm pretty sure it was somebody with the intellectual (in)capacity of Algore who was sure he knew how to make things better for everybody else and ended up confusing most of the population twice a year.

Posted by: 141 Driver at March 14, 2010 10:59 AM (JFNQ7)

98 Now I'm anxious for summer.  Nothing's better than standing around a grill with friends, drinking a cold beer, cooking up some ribs or seasoned burger paddies and veggies...

Posted by: Z Ryan at March 14, 2010 10:59 AM (cMo6P)

99 Depends on the number of morons but I can get my hands on a cooking machine that I can tow w/my truck all stainless I have an organism every time I use it.

101 102 Z,

Actually it belongs to a fellow "Nam Vet friend of mine in Texas, he travels around the state for cookoff contests and has never placed less than 3rd in 20 years.

102 Damn!  What do you prefer to use: gas, wood or coal?

Posted by: Z Ryan at March 14, 2010 11:07 AM (cMo6P)

103 I prefer Hickory, mesquite, pecan or cherry (if I can find it) I'm easy.

104 Think the park rangers would object if I go to DC for a tea party riot cause fright wingers are so scary, and crank up a chainsaw and take down one of their cherry trees?? Discuss.

Posted by: 'Nam Grunt at March 14, 2010 11:12 AM (QwzXa)

105 I would object! I love the cherry trees in DC! They're sooooo purdy when they're in bloom.

Luckily, they're kinda all over northern VA so you can just sneak into a neighborhood and chop one down.

You'd probably cause heart attacks amongst the Lib hippies so I'd say that balances out whatever displeasure the park rangers show in your direction. If you get arrested, call me. I'm good for bail money.

109 66 Thanks billygoat. I'm going into studs--I have some house framing experience (that's an internship!) It's hilarious because I'm in a 1BR apt and it makes my monitor look like a phone.

Looked at Lowes and she just saw a Level Mount @ Sears under $40--

About DST.

Only the government would believe you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.

Yuck!  Just looked at the online edition of the local paper (Jackson, MS) and saw that the Rev. Jeremiah (GD Amerika) Wright and Sheila Jackson Lee are both going to be speaking here to honor the civil rights heroes.  That ought to be special.

45  And therein lies the problem:  whatever convinced people that knowing how to fight was a bad thing?

Doesn't take away from the reality of that kid being screwed up for life, but how screwed up are people (in developed countries) making their kids into weeinies who can't defend themselves and/or always look to some authority figure to do their fighting for them?

(yes, my kids know how to fight -- which kept them out of fights)
