Manning or Brees?

Commercials and babes, especially the ones for that headhunter site.

To me, "Manning" is a verb, as in "They are manning the gun-mounts," and "Brees" is a misspelling of a light wind.

See youse tomorrow.

8 Keeping it low key this year. Just two guests coming over (with the possibility of a few "drop-ins"). Of course, the couple coming over are both Libs. One professor and one lawyer. I think they've gotten my "vibe" in the past, so I don't expect (and won't accept) any political chatter during the game.

I refuse to root for a team that represents evil creationism such as the Saints.

Therefore I will be rooting for the team from Indianapolis with the horse-shoe on their helmets.

That and I really love horse-cock.

17 In real life I'm a Pats fan, but for today I'm rooting for the Saints. I'm not anti-Peyton or anything (he's supposedly my  "doppelganger") but I was a big fan of Gil Fenerty back in the day, and then "Ironhead" Heyward, even Ricky Williams, Deuce McAllister and now Reggie Bush. They've always had some interesting players.  And of course, the one time I went to New Orleans was a blast.
Geaux Saints!

I really have no dog in this fight, but I'll go with the Saints on this one just because they dont have the Lombardi yet even though the media fluff and somehow giving credit to Obama afterwards for the victory will turn a lot of stomachs.

25 Even more than usual, it stinks to be a Houston sports fan today.  I want the Colts to lose every game until the end of time by a hundred points because they are scum and they threw a game this season that kept the Texans out of the playoffs... but I'd also prefer that evacuee hooligans not burn down my city in celebration.

29 I really couldn't care less about football. I am the first to admit I'm a "bandwagon fan," only really interested if my team (the Pats) are playing. I'd be all for having people over for a party, though, since I love throwing parties. However, none of our friends care about football either. Well, we have some friends who are DIE HARD college football fans, but that's about it. I'm tempted to go to the commissary and buy the stuff needed to make Buffalo Chicken Dip. I could go for a 2000 calorie snack today.

Interesting. The TV channels were pretty quick to go with the "hundreds injured", and this article only says "several". That's a hopeful sign. Everyone is still only referencing two fatalities as far as I've seen. Apparently the boom and shake were detectable miles away, so maybe everyone there has hearing loss, etc., but nothing too serious. Can only hope.

A little exasperating that even Fox hasn't used a search engine to obtain background info on this plant. There was over 5000 tons of steel in a brand new high-iron structure, scheduled to go on line by June. That structure, in the blast photos, is completely gone.

This was a multi-stage gas plant, using the waste heat from turbines to generate steam. Great idea, suggested by any damn fool who's ever seen the wavy lines come off a peaker. It's "Siemens-cycle," and it's unclear, but Siemens may be the contractor or venture partner. Supposed to raise heat efficiency from 30 to 60.

A simple ruptured line would have made an impressive fireball at one point only. There had to be a lengthy and contained leak for gas to take down the building. Alternately, pressure vessels may have been under test.

85 Just in case anyone was wondering, both Tom Benson and Drew Brees are committed conservatives (but obviously do not make a whole lot of noise about it for sales purposes). In addition, the greater New Orleans area isn't just Orleans Parish (the only island of blue in a sea of red).

In any event, I'm obviously pulling for the Saints, and I also have some bad blood history with the Manning children (it's a long story going back to high school).

Civil War all over again.  My father's family is from New Orleans and are rabid Saints fans and my mom's side is from Indianapolis and are wearin' the blue. I live in Indy and root for the Colts.

To give the New Orleans side credit though-they're big Palin supporters and are more tired of the Katrina stuff than anyone.  As my Uncle Rich says, "why can't it just be about football? Best team wins."

Any true southerner is at the Piggly Wiggly getting beah anyway.  Not worried about the Katrina stuff.

105 Jeff-

I started off at Newman and was quite literally bullied out of there... I wound up at Country Day, but spent a hell of a lot more time with Brother Martin and Rummel types... after high school, in order to get the private school taste out of my mouth, I went to UNO for undergrad. Then, of course, when all the Newman and CD types flunked out of their chosen SEC schools, they wound up at UNO with me.

Peaches-

Gator is fishy-tasting, but has a tougher texture than chicken. It's quite good as an hors d'oeuvre or as a meat with rice or pasta.

I think the star players are basically told by the NFL to do public service spots.  I doubt he had a choice.  And, of course, it wasn't really 'political' (although I sure wouldn't want to spend time with the guy).

196 @158 Ooooooooooh, Daddy like! @146 Haven't tried but that definitely gets done next time I grill pork chops. Okay. For the adventurous...... It sounds weird as hell, but I promise...this is very close to sex on the tongue: 1) Slice a ripe mango (must be ripe! the sweetness is important) into roughly 1.5 x 3 inches pieces about one quarter to one third inch thick. 2) Top mango with top quality "uni" bought from your local sushi restaurant/Japanese grocery. 3) Eat and experience tongue orgasm! For those who don't know, "uni" is basically sea urchin eggs. I know, I know....but this is unbelievably good. Serve with cold sake or vodka martini. Even if you hate sushi, you're still going to love this. Everyone does.

#195:

As an attorney, and after going through the Hillman program, I learned that any public speaker should have a short list of issues written down so that the speaker does not forget an issue while speaking, or being questioned.  It is easy to get caught up in the moment and forget to address a point.  We were taught to just make a list of the issues, in as few words as possible, just to jog our memories. (and write it all in big letters so we could see them while standing at the lectern)  Sort of like the old 'tie-a-string- around-your-finger'.

Mrs. Palin's palm-notes mean nothing more than 'don't forget to address this'.

Plus,  Obama had to throw his two cents in and say he was supporting the Saints because of Katrina.  What is that about,  other than to trash President Bush one more time?

Plax is a dumbass for two reasons.  One, carrying a Glock stuffed in his sweatpants because it only has a trigger safety.  Two, reaching for it once it slipped and hitting the trigger.  You can hit a Glock with a sledgehammer but it won't fire unless you pull the trigger.  Effin idiot.

--I would certainly not excuse Plax's foolishness, but he also talked about being afraid of robbery on the street as well.  I would not be surprised if he tried to get a gun legally, saw what a pain in the ass it is, then said "fuck it" and felt dealing with the consequences of a dead robbber were better than his family losing him.

Again, he was stupid to bring it into a club (why would anyone want to go to a club where you flt you needed a gun anyway?), but I can understand, if not excuse, the chain of decisions that led to what happened.

I own a couple of Glocks and I can tell you, there is only one true safety on them and that is not operating the slide with a loaded magazine in. 2 if you count keeping your finger off of the trigger. When I open or conceal carry I never engage a round since it takes all of about one second to draw and then operate the slide and chamber a round and bring it to bear.

296 Potatoe skins (10): wash and dry potatoes, cut in half, cook in oven for about 1 hour at 350 degrees. Cut up some green onions and cooked bacon. Remove potatoes when soft enough to scoop out meat. Allow to cool enough to handle then scoop out meat. Fill with green onions and bacon, cover with cheddar cheese and cook in oven at 350 until cheese is melted. Top with sour cream and graze. Nacho dip: 3 cans cheddar cheese soup, one jalapeño, two serrano, one habanero, half a red bell pepper, and about 1/2 cup yellow onion, all finely chopped. Start cheese soup in saucepan on low heat while sautéing onion/peppers in olive oil. Add chopped garlic, salt, pepper to peppers/onion and continue to sauté until mix is soft. Add basil and cumin to chesse soup. Not too much cumin as it is strong. Add peppers/onion mix to cheese soup. Continue to heat on low, adding whole milk slowly until desired consistency, stirring frequently. Brown one pound of ground beef, salt to taste, drain and add to cheese sauce. Keep temp on low and eat all day on it. Egg rolls: one pound ground pork, garlic, yellow onion, water chestnuts, finely chopped. Sauté pork mix in olive oil adding bean sprouts and juienned carrots and sauté until carrots are soft. One package of egg roll wraps, about 20. 1/2 head of green cabbage. Finely chop cabbage. Add 1 Tblspn of pork mix and a bit of the chopped cabbage on a wrap. Wrap should be placed in a diamond fashion with the corners north, south, east, west. Use a bit of cornstarch with a bit of water to make a glue to keep edges together. Roll up wrap, keeping all ingredients inside. Deep fry until golden brown. Or bake. Enjoy with teriyaki, hot mustard, or sweet n sour.

That may be true, but thats about the same amount of time it takes to disengage a safety. If you bring it out hot from under your clothes or from a holster and a perp gets the drop on you, you could very well end up getting shot with your own piece in the struggle.

Actually, I liked the Glock and I can see it being dependable, but with three kids around the house I like something a little more "conventional".  And they are absolutely unforgiving from a safety standpoint.  From the point of view of safety, it's never a bad thing to count yourself among the dumbasses.  (I just showed my daughter the famous Lee Paige video, and explained to her that my accidental discharge score is exactly 0).  I'll take my Kimber .45.

Both teams embody different virtues: with the Colts, and in particular Manning, there is work, work, work and precision to achieve the objective.  Manning is famously a tireless student of the game and Caldwell has continued the Dungy tradition of calm leadership.

The Saints also work hard (especially ondefense), but their virtue is more on the aspect of creativity and innovation, adapting quickly to changes in game conditions.  They're more risk-takers.

In either case, I am looking forward to a great matchup.  Enough hype.  Bring it on!

Of course not.  But that's not necessarily unsafe with a 1911 or their rip-offs.  I've never taken a Glock apart but I felt like I was carrying a timebomb.  Just wasn't comfortable in that position with it.

No weapon is fool-proof and Paige proved it. He could have just as easily had another weapon and forgot to have the safety on. Like I said, the main safety of any auto pistol is the slide. A child would have less of a problem pushing a simple button than holding a lock down and negotiating a slide. Plus they make trigger locks, but at 2 a.m. who the hell wants to go fumbling around in the dark for keys when an intruder is breaking in.

The greyware has to be functioning properly, which makes me really nervous that Glocks are so freely issued to police officers.

I have a brother who is armed security.  Among the whole bunch of us brothers, he is by far the worst shot.  That's no cack on him, just the truth.  He has to qualify annually, and they use a local police firing range.

I carry the 1911 cocked and locked.  That strap to me is like Linus's security  blanket.  However, I really, really like a hammer block safety as is on my Ruger P85.

Posted by: Pelayo at February 07, 2010 05:52 PM (8NGHm)

I think that is a really, really stupid way to carry a firearm and a sure way to eventually blow your fucking foot off.  One in the pipe?  Sure.  But hammer up?  That's thinking with your dick and not your brain.

WTF?  You think in a stressful situation you won't have the strength to go double action?

All my Galco holsters have this feature.

It's a good feature. You pull it out, it's ready to shoot, just thumb down the thumb safety on the weapon. Very safe carry.

374 Herr Morgenholz, carrying a 1911 with the a bullet in the chamber and the hammer down is not recommended as a safe configuration for a 1911.

I should use the A1 after 1911.  The safety catch on a 1911 A1 with the hammer down cannot be engaged.

Posted by: Dang Straights

Was that the 82 or the 89 first farewell? I saw them on those, and by the 89 show it was apparent they should have hung it up. In 84 they came out with the live album "Who's Last". But since that time, they have put out some crappy music.

We were also in Vegas when Entwistle went all Len Bias, and it was not even a blip in the media out there.

I'm putting my money on Baba O'Reilly, Won't Get Fooled Again, Who Are You, and Pinball Wizard as being the songs performed. Especially since the first 3 are used as theme songs on CBS shows.

Your load needs to match your prey.  That Speedgoat needed to be another 150+ yds away for you to get into the zone with that load.

I shoot 145gr. at 3190fps at the muzzle for Antelope...anything inside of 250 walks when I have those loads. Of course, I load those expressly to shoot between 450 -600 yds. for the speedgoats.

I keep a few slower loads in my pack for the odd occasion where I feel like belly crawling inside 200 yds on those fuckers!

Elvis with a touch of Michael Jackson chains on the shoulder.  She'll be hearing from Lisa Marie's lawyer.

449 I like New Orleans OK. It is like an old harlot, smells funny, but a lot of fun. San Francisco is a lot like that too. Both towns were not places you went to be good. In the town I grew up, all the bars were crummy little dives, and all the churches were magnificent. In New Orleans and San Francisco, all the bars are magnificent and all the churches are crummy little dives.

As a lifelong Redskins fan I can honestly say if my son was the quarterback for the Cowboys and playing the Skins in the NFC championship game I would be rooting for......

Oh course the left hate the ad.  The socialist dream is the destruction of the family, replacing the family with the state.

The left can identify with gang rapists who write childrens books.
The left are in love with then notion of giving terrorists constitutional rights.

PGIS, did you and Ghengis travel back in time in a DeLorean fueled by a flux capacitor?  Maybe when you guys save the clock tower, you can change the out come of that Seahawks/Steelers game.  We was robbed!  (And I know you have a strong sense of justice.)

As I recall a day or two ago Focus on the Family bought another ad for during the pre-game. I missed pre-game. This one must be the one slated for the during the game-run. So there are two ads.

Posted by: runningrn at February 07, 2010 03:03 PM (CfmlF)

481 I was thinking that The Colts have the advantage in the 4th quarter (their small defensive line doesn't wear out like the big guys do).  If The Saints don't score early and often, they are going to be in trouble.

I just read a report on the Super Bowl.

The crazed liberals just cannot give up. Read the subtle anti-conservative, pro Obama messages that they insert even into America's Game.

The article was by one Michael Silver for Yahoo Sports.

"New Orleans would be fueled by the audacity of hope as it had all season."

"It was New Orleans 31, Indianapolis 17; Chutzpah 1, Conservatism 0."

Just wait. Some liberal Democrat flack is sure to compare Obama to the New Orleans coach who "took chances" was "pro active" and led his team to victory. Actually look to Obama to make the comparison in the next 48 hours.
