The Ego Convergence
— Slublog

The self-importance is strong in both of them. Whose narcissism will reign supreme?

Washington (CNN) – White House press secretary Robert Gibbs left open the possibility Sunday that President Obama could take a turn on the hardwood with NBA super star LeBron James.

“Look, I can only imagine if the president had an opportunity to play against LeBron James, he would take it,” Gibbs said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“I don't know that we would make the game public or the outcome or the score public because let's just say somebody [like James] who is 6-foot-8, quite that size, starts with an advantage that is hard for the president to make up.

This, of course, was in answer to the question 'how much more tone-deaf can the president appear?'

The unemployment rate is at 9.5%. America is fighting two wars. Tens of thousands of barrels of oil are still flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. The economy is still in the toilet.

Obama's response? Ridiculous spinning on the economy. Another broken promise not to rest until the oil spill is dealt with, a promise that is parodied well in this video.

Oh, and the golf. Let's not forget the golf.

And now, they float the possibility of playing basketball with the most unpopular man in Ohio. It's almost enough to make one think this administration is fundamentally unserious about governing.

Don't worry, though. Obama will deal with the nation's problems soon.

Maybe right after he gets back from Maine.

1 Wait, wasn't Lebron James the guy who wouldn't let some stupid Nike video out because some kid wiped the floor with him when playing pick up basketball. What do you think the odds are that he'll take one for Team Obama?

If his approval keep tanking.....then, yes, this "faceoff"
will come closer and closer to happening.  Imagine
the MSM hype, the non-stop sports channel babble,
.....and the misdirection and smokescreen that would
help our fearless leader through his political quag-
mire.  You laugh at an "un-precedented" game of
H-O-R-S-E on prime-time on every major channel?
You KNOW you'd watch!......and breathlessly
check the Vegas line right up to air time.

Speaking of "Whale Wars" -- have you ever noticed that, for all the hype and hyperventilating passion (and the tears, don't forget the sweet, salty tears)...they never seem to ever be able to save one, damn whale?  I mean, come on, if they were really as serious as they say they are...wouldn't they be taking a page or two from hadji jihadi and, like, blowing themselves up and shit?

124 Is it wrong that those caused me to giggle to the point of tears?  I try to not make fun of the woman (it must be hard looking like a cross between Patrick Ewing and Aunt Esther -- and a mean spirited, crass one at that) and save the hate for her husband, but damn that was funny.

158 ...because let's just say somebody [like James] who is 6-foot-8, quite that size, starts with an advantage that is hard for the president to make up. Sure thing, Auerbach. Let's just say, somebody who couldn't start on his varsity basketball team, at a private school, in Hawaii, starts with a disadvantage that is hard for the James to live down. I just realized, that while everyone hears about Obama playing basketball, no one ever sees Obama playing basketball. I suspect he'd probably lose whatever's left of the black base if his barely keeping up with a couple white-bread, middle-aged secret service agents and junior-level interns were publicized.

Posted by: BuddyPC at July 12, 2010 04:43 AM (N/Bgb)

159 They wouldn't be able to fit those two egos in the same room. BTW LeBron is also seriously hated in New York, because he dared to let his financial and professional interests dictate his choice for his new team. How dare he save $12M by playing for Miami rather than in NY or Ohio. If LeBron did play the President, the only issue would be whether he would take a dive or not. I think he would because 92 percent of African Americans are still drinking Obama's koolaid and LeBron would not like the Joe the Plumber treatment for 'embarrassing' Obama, by wiping the floor with him. But it is also embarrassing to have the WH Press Secretary seriously state that Obama would have any shot of beating LeBron or any top NBA star. That kind of narcissism is seriously delusional and indicates mental disease of staggering proportions. Pres. Bush was a decent jogger, but his press flacks would never, even in jest, put it out that he would win the marathon against the top rated runners or proposed running a race against them. It would be ludicrous, unpresidential, and over the top.
