— Open Blogger While I have been aware for 40 years of the hypocrisy of the Left when it comes to the horrors inflicted by leftist/collectivist regimes -- I read "The God That Failed" all the way back in 1970 -- I remain to this day dumbfounded by the Left's willingness to see Hitler and Nazism as pure evil and yet excuse or overlook the vastly greater deaths and horrors that took place under Communism via Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. As the author of this article notes, the Left tries to excuse it as being "merely" due to mismanagement and weather.
That is a lie. It was the depths of hell, every bit as much as the extermination camps of the Nazis, and just as horrific:
In the summer of 1962, for instance, the head of the Public Security Bureau in Sichuan sent a long handwritten list of casualties to the local boss, Li Jingquan, informing him that 10.6 million people had died in his province from 1958 to 1961. In many other cases, local party committees investigated the scale of death in the immediate aftermath of the famine, leaving detailed computations of the scale of the horror. In all, the records I studied suggest that the Great Leap Forward was responsible for at least 45 million deaths.
Between 2 and 3 million of these victims were tortured to death or summarily executed, often for the slightest infraction. People accused of not working hard enough were hung and beaten; sometimes they were bound and thrown into ponds. Punishments for the least violations included mutilation and forcing people to eat excrement.
One report dated Nov. 30, 1960, and circulated to the top leadership — most likely including Mao — tells how a man named Wang Ziyou had one of his ears chopped off, his legs tied up with iron wire and a 10-kilo stone dropped on his back before he was branded with a sizzling tool. His crime: digging up a potato.
When a boy stole a handful of grain in a Hunan village, the local boss, Xiong Dechang, forced his father to bury his son alive on the spot. The report of the investigative team sent by the provincial leadership in 1969 to interview survivors of the famine records that the man died of grief three weeks later. . . .
The term “famine” tends to support the widespread view that the deaths were largely the result of half-baked and poorly executed economic programs. But the archives show that coercion, terror and violence were the foundation of the Great Leap Forward.Mao was sent many reports about what was happening in the countryside, some of them scribbled in longhand. He knew about the horror, but pushed for even greater extractions of food.
At a secret meeting in Shanghai on March 25, 1959, he ordered the party to procure up to one-third of all the available grain — much more than ever before. The minutes of the meeting reveal a chairman insensitive to human loss: “When there is not enough to eat people starve to death. It is better to let half of the people die so that the other half can eat their fill.”
Until the Left truly acknowledges these crimes and ranks them alongside Nazism, they are and will remain morally bankrupt and intellectually dishonest. ..fritz..

There is history... and then there is what is taught in school.
One of the greatest Killers in history, is the short sighted idiots in the EPA, who banned DDT. Millions a year die of easily prevented diseases... because people did not bother to listen to the actual science.
But you won't learn that in your US school history class...
And of course... Islam is the Religion of Peace... just ask our own Government...
Funny how people can just ignore large parts of the historical record, if they find it inconvenient to their belief system.

One reason the Left identifies with Mao is that Mao was filthy. The guy never bathed nor brushed his teeth, and he reputedly smelled like shit. Sound like any hippies you know?

The leftoids will at least look at the Times. My friend is, in most respects, a nice person, but I imagine you could say the same of the Nazis back in the day. They, too, would have you over for dinner and ask kindly after your welfare: if you weren't a Jew.

Then they will remain morally bankrupt and intellectually dishonest in all eternity. The left has never, ever, ever acknowledged the failure of their ideas. Ever. Among their thoughts (if the term can be applied) Nixon, Palin, Thatcher, et al are far worse...though no one ever died under their rule. But that doesn't matter. The correctness of thought is all that matters to them.
They are diseased beyond reclamation. Don't expect them to acknowledge any errors from the left, ever.

And the great thing about the kibbutz example is that these were the most well-meaning of people. There wasn't the shadowy tyrant waiting to take over behind the scenes. Every single person wanted the best for people, with no ulterior motive.
And they still couldn't make it work.

The left are a bunch of slimy liars anyway, get a few drinks in 'em and they'll be on about purges and executions all night, even the "nice" ones.

I checked out the link to the book mentioned, "The God that Failed", and found this money quote in one of the reviews:
"Marxism-Leninism necessarily rests on two main axiomas[sic]: first, that the Party is inherently the most progressive force and representative of the struggle for socialism and the proletariat's role in this; and second, that the ends, as embodied in the Party, always justify the means. Together, these two rules form a deadly recipe for totalitarianism and tyranny over the mind, regardless of how well-intentioned its adherents may or may not have been."
I'd argue that MOST forms of socialism rest on the same axioms. Of course the reviewer, sympathetic to socialism, makes the whole "M-L perverts TWUE Socialism" argument, but anyone who pays attention to the rhetoric of American progressives and the far left end of the "Liberal" spectrum finds chilling similarities in the way they think.

Exactly. The key weakness of American conservatism is that we are the law-and-order folks - the ones holding down jobs and keeping things running, respecting the rules. Our kind is very reluctant to use extra-legal means to achieve victory. The unwillingness to even consider, and plan for, the need to offer effective resistance to the state is deep seeded. Even the suggestion that local conservative militias be formed is often met with accusations of being a brown-shirt wannabe.
We can each be armed to the teeth as individuals, with a concrete reinforced bunker for a house and a year's worth of MRE's in the basement, but without organization we can be defeated in detail. Once the internet is shut down "for the duration of the emergency" how are right wingers going to spontaneously organize? I doubt it could happen. We'll be isolated and cut apart.

Nazis were lefties! The only difference between fascists and socialists is to what degree the government should take over and control means of production. It's a difference in degree, not kind.
Lefties own it all.

The evolution of socialism is like post-season college basketball. You have the NIT, which was more prominent than the NCAA tournament back in the 1930s. The Final Four consisted of Hitler (national socialism, emphasizing national), Röhm (national socialism, emphasizing socialism), Trotsky (international socialism, emphasizing international) and Stalin (international socialism, emphasizing socialism). The brackets show Hitler defeating Röhm and Stalin over Trostky in the semifinals, and Stalin winning it all in the final.
Meanwhile, in the West, the KGB agents with their fellow travelers and useful idiots struggled for awhile but eventually got a dynasty going in the NCAA. Then without anyone really noticing, the NCAA emerged as more prominent than the NIT. The socialists in the West (schools and media) have become the UCLA Bruins. They've won about 45 consecutive titles and seem to be unbeatable.
(It's a flawed analogy, but it works for me.)

One answer was by expropriating it from its private owners. Skip that whole "raising capital" notion. The kind of thinking that leads to that answer ignores the obvious followup questions of growth, stagnation, markets, and such.
Ask for details on how communists think an ideal society will work, if for nothing other than entertainment.

Nazism and Fascism are different variants of the same socialism as Communism and just as deadly. Mussolini was raised by a socialist father who named him after a socialist leader and worked for a socialist paper. When socialism fell flat in Italy because Italian workers weren't interested in fighting a revolution for the whole world, Mussolini got the idea of making socialism nationalistic! Mussolini bound all the socialist parties together like a bundle of sticks, or fascii, and proclaimed in a speech that he was a socialist, had always been a socialist, and would always be a socialist. That's why Fascism is socialist.
Hitler liked Mussolini's innovation so much he changed his German Worker's Party, which was derived from the Communist platform, into the National Socialists. That second word is like a clue as to what the Nazis were.
Allow me to summarize: Fascism = Nazism = Communism. They are all creatures of the Left which differ only in emphasis of various features.

Reading this is why I truly believe liberal ideas should be banned. Yes, it sounds good on the surface and it is seductive, which makes the zombies follow it, but in the real world, it creates a giant casualty list.
Some things are banned for a reason and should never be revisited. Leftist ideology should be one of them.
I figure leftist ideas account for at least 100 million direct deaths in the 20th century alone. That doesn't count the hundreds of millions who have been sacrificed on the alter of the environment (deaths by malaria) or in attempts to reduce certain races (eugenics and that sick bitch founder of Planned Parenthood Margaret Sanger who viewed abortion as a method of controlling the black population).

They endorse evil because they are evil. When confronted with conscious and deliberate evil they attempt to obscure it, excuse it, and otherwise distract others from looking at it.
Why.
Because they are evil.
Once you understand this about them, everything else makes sense.
