— Ace The commentary track for Total Recall.
These are often monstrously boring and uninformative, but I think Schewarzenegger and VerHoeven hit a new standard of oblivious obviousness here.
Soooo Funny: "Total Recallin'."

Easy: Google (in sequence) Maria Shriver's political party, then the concept of "husbands sleeping on the couch".

I keep hearing that theory propounded. The problem is, how naive and uninformed does a person have to be to think that Arnold relies on Marie for his, uh, carnal needs?

It isn't the tang that I mean (and I will ignore the pathetic attempts at insult) - it's the steady drip-drip-drip of continuous reinforcement of the kind of "go along to get along" that has ruined so much of California State politics since the early 70s. If you actually had someone in your life, you would not be able to prevent having some of the differences between you being compromised away, either. (Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.) The farther apart those beliefs are, the farther from your original position you will end up. And Arnie was a pretty squish 'R' to start out with. He only stood out against Gray Davis.
But since you know that Arnie's cheating on Maria and everything, links, please...

No links, Drumwaster, but I saw it once in person. I think it was Jackson Hole. Some board-betty. Maria was at the Clinstones' second inaug that weekend. Arnold was on the loose. He even checked me out.

Schwarzenegger and Boorman sound baked in the Conan commentary.
I've linked this several times, but here it's obligatory.

In the real world you pick off your adversaries in detail. You pick today's battles so that a victory makes tomorrow's easier. He was either too ambitious, too naive, or too badly advised to figure this out.
He could have won with one or maybe two of the most important initiatives. He could have gotten controls on union money, or redistricting reform, or maybe even both. Then you go back for the next round the following year, and so on. Take little bites over two or three years.
Arnold went for the big splatter scene and once the unions were done lining up against him he's the one that got bloodied.
What's even worse, though, is that after that he rolled over like a poodle and went almost full-Democrat. And worse still he pitched himself to the left as a green crusader.
Useless.
