The Later Playoff Game Today Post
— Dave in Texas

Enough about that crap. On to the Jets and the Chargers. I just need a couple minutes to dab up the blood here.

...

Okaaaaay! All better now. Now that I can quit worrying about the Girls, here's your second NFL Sunday action thread. Frankly I'm surprised the Jets are here but keep in mind I'm the guy who can't pick worth a damn, which I'm sure none of you were thinking anyway. Ok some of you jerks were, I know it.

Upfront pic. Do I love you people, even when you are all dogging me?

Yes I do. Yes I do.

3 Having seen what the Jets can do, twice over, I will say the Jets are gonna win it today, baby! Given how my early predictions worked out for the Bengals in the last month or so, I should have my revenge, then.

Posted by: Dr. Spank at January 17, 2010 01:02 PM (muUqs)

75 Comment on Gateway that gives some perspective:

Just so you know, the rallies are not across town from each other. The Obama rally was in Boston and the Brown rally in Worcester, a good 30-40 miles away and with a metro area a 10th of BostonÂ’s size. There is no subway in Worcester, and there is an incipient snowstorm that is likely to catch a good number of attendees driving home. You had to really want to go to the Worcester rally.

Boston has 10x the population of Worcester and a subway system that gets you within a block of the Obama rally with a dozen or more colleges no more than 15 mins away by the subway. Probably 10 in walking distance. Some of the colleges are not yet back in session, but thereÂ’s always thousands of students out and about on a Sunday afternoon even so. So assume some number of Obama rally attendees are college students who will not be voting in the election. If the turnout is as bad as the article says, the implications may be even greater than they first appear to be.

Vic is the Font Fucker-Upper, usually.

Actually the font you see on your own screen may or may not be the same as what everyone else sees.  What you see depends on what the settings of your own browser are and what Pixy does to the post after it is entered.

I have had some people say that my posts were too small to read at the same time others were saying that they were too big.

It does that when you copy and paste from another source into Pixy and you really don't have much control over it.

Somebody (lauren) made a very good point about Wee Wee getting heckled - they didn't have control of the audience like they usually do.  They were unable to stuff the hall with campaign workers (and their kids) and other sympathetic frauds.  So this trip caught them completely off-balance and they aren't able to control the situation.  Interesting.

Great play by Revas there.

122 From The Corner:

Cliffy Clavin at the Brown rally today-
This isn't the Democratic party of our fathers and grandfathers. This is the party of Woodstock hippies.  I was at Woodstock — I built the stage. And when everything fell apart, and people were fighting for peanut-butter sandwiches, it was the National Guard who came in and saved the same people who were protesting them. So when Hillary Clinton a few years ago wanted to build a Woodstock memorial, I said it should be a statue of a National Guardsman feeding a crying hippie."

Just watching a youtube vid of his smarmy speech from beginning until a bit into the heckling.  They showed the heckler holding a sign that, I think, said "Jesus loves all babies."  Not sure, but it looked like he may have been wearing a clerical collar, too.  They cut off the vid shortly after the heckling started, but Gateway reports it went on for 3 or 4 minutes.  His speech was weak, stupid crap, btw.

No shit. Apparently the reasoning behind it is that people just aren't interested in football after the Superbowl and they think moving it to before the Superbowl will improve ratings. It takes a special kind of stupid to think people will be interested in a Pro Bowl in the middle of all the Superbowl hype and when they know even more players than usual won't be playing because they're in the Superbowl.

235 peaches he said it to his guests when they were talking about the interview with Bush and Clinton.   He thought that was a very cute moment so he stressed it.  and it was a very cute moment.  Bush must be a lot of fun at a party.  What I loved was when he said int he interview "there is life after the presidency".  And when he stuck up for faith based organizations by saying "well they are there for entirely different reasons, they believe you should love your neighbor as you love yourself".  Completely made everyone forget what Clinton had just said about dolling out the first million last night before he went to bed.   Also, Bush essentially said "what do you mean the organizations that have been there for a long time will be bullied".   So he got his points across.  They were both charming.

299: "I need Richt to win many, many games next year."

It would be nice, but not sure if it is going to happen.  I was somewhat encouraged by the fact that Richt belatedly came to the realization that being the most penalized team in the NCAA year after year isn't a good thing and that team discipline is important.  Also encouraged by the fact that he's done some house cleaning.  However, the Dawgs have been getting by on nothing more than individual talent for quite a while.  From a fundamentals stand point, they stink and have been getting worse.

Next year will probably be the acid test.

FCI,

That's why these new hires are important. The new DC will improve things like fundamentals, and Georgia has a lot of talent. They're also young, don't forget. Young players are going to make young player mistakes.

Georgia finished #2 in the country just two years ago. Last season they had tons of injuries, this season they had a shaky QB and a poorly coached defense. They'll be back. The rest of the SEC (except for Alabama)  is a mess now compared to the situation at Georgia.

I said I was too poor for that under Obama's economy and would splurge on that if we took back the House.

I have not forgotten that awfulness, but the Georgia-Florida series has always been cyclical.  UGA dominated in the 70s-80s, UF has the last two decades.

My point is that Georgia fans that bash Richt have apparently forgotten the endless parade of suck that was Ray Goff.  Richt's a good coach, and will continue to have success.

@357: "Richt's a good coach, and will continue to have success."

Under Richt, they'll be 8-4/9-3/10-2 every year.  They'll lose to Florida 80% of the time.  They'll win most of the games that they are expected to win, but will get shocked occasionally.  They'll pretty much always lose the games that they are expected to lose.  Respectable enough, but not really why Richt was brought in.  He was brought in to win titles, and that just doesn't seem to be in his bag of tricks.  Basically, he's a more sociable Donnan, with a slightly higher upside.

I was there for the Goff years.  The "Fire Ray Goof" and "Division II, Here We Come" flyover banners summed it up nicely.
