Yeah, those are two Obama blow ups I thought but they weren't as fatal because as you say, the media protected Obama but also there was no direct target.

If Obama were on tape referring to a very specific voter who 'clung to guns and religion' and that voter were a sympathetic figure like a 65 year old widow, he would have been hurt badly by it.

The visuals and the personalization are what kill Brown.

That and Brown is a very unsympathetic character who is down in the polls and Obama was popular and leading.

David Cameron is an extremely compelling candidate.  In the last debate, he worked the camera like a two-dollar whore, while Clegg came off boyish and petulant, bickering at every chance. 

The Guardian says it's a net gain for the Liberal Democrats.  But from what I've seen of polling in the UK, it's even more hit and miss there than here.

*The American provincialism comment ticked me off too; I'm sick of the arrogant attitude that usually accompanies that.  However, Dr. Mabuse appears to be a Canadian mom who advocates for conservative values in her own country - if her blog is any indication.   I'll give Canadians a pass on their own irritation with our "provincialsim", since we generally think of Canada as "America's hat."
